I like the slick bed of the taco. Ultra gritty rhino lining is a pain in the as* to slide things across. I can always strap items down. But most of the time I’m sliding items in and out. With no line X gritty texture, I don’t have to climb into the bed and lift things out most of the time.
Also the steel/ aluminum beds get dented like crazy. Even reasonably small rocks dent them. Then the lining starts to disbond.

However I wish Ford used the gen 2 2.3 ecoboost (with dual injection) like Toyota does with their D4S system to prevent carbon buildup. I've gone to the dealer and looked at most of these. I came so close to pulling the trigger on the Canyon, but I have so many reservations about GM quality lately. I found out the reason I couldn't find any Canyons on the lot was because GM had put a stop on all of them recently to fix more software issues. For 50k+, there shouldn't be so many reports of transmission and software issues all over the place. There are incentives everywhere I look on full size trucks, to the extent that you can find a similarly equipped one for less than mid-size! But, having owned a 2019 Silverado before, full size is simply too much truck for my uses. Too big and too bulky for me. I guess I'll just keep my current vehicle for the time being and wait to see if prices come down and reliability issues stop being such an issue.

Yes, those same people tend to forget that the other choices still have direct injection, cylinder deactivation, variable valve timing, DOHC, etc attached to 8-9-10 speed transmissions and spec'ing thin oil. No truck on the market today is simple. They are all chock full of expensive points of failure. Turbos can and do fail sometimes, yes, but they are one of my least concerns on modern drivetrains. Their low end torque and economy under light loads makes them ideal in light truck applications, IMO. I absolutely love mine.

Dealership wanted almost 11k to repair the problem. Does my negative experience mean you should avoid turbocharged vehicles? No, but your positive one doesn’t mean someone wont have problems. Some people want a simpler operation. I personally prefer naturally aspirated, that’s why I went with a frontier.

Getting an XLT with a locker is a good option. I don't think it's the better value though which could change my mind it the Ford isn't priced accordingly. Hi! I’m thinking of getting a preowned mid or full-sized pickup truck as daily work truck. I have a commute of 40 mile one-way (1.5 hrs) then another 1hr drive home in horrid SoCal traffic. I haul mostly network cabling installation equipment in the bed, and do not tow.
What brand, model year, engine and grade do you recommend? I would like to have some of the newer active safety features such as the automatic emergency braking system to avoid front collisions, but not as critical as long-term reliability and durability. Any suggestions for a late model pickup truck with Direct and Port Injection. Also, what immediate and affordable engine and transmission mods for reliability and durability do you recommend to protect the powertrain? I’m not looking for more power, just long-term reliability and durability as I don’t have too much money and need a truck for work and personal use. Thank you!

I'm definitely glad I bought it instead of a Tundra, which IMO was overpriced and underwhelming in comfort, performance, and capability. I've bought the "reliable" choices before based on Consumer Reports and fan boy claims. But they still broke and weren't very enjoyable vehicles.
