Hello All, to let those that enquire after Merle. She sadly passed away 31 october 3022. She lived in her tiny up to a week prior to getting ill. One of her fond memories is of the time rasa and bryce visited and made this video. Regards Ferne King (daughter)
Thank you for all you did for your lovely mother Ferne. Merle was a special woman and I greatly enjoyed spending time with her. You building this home for her enabled her to have a wonderful quality of life in her last years and I know how grateful she was for that. ❤
Me either. I'm small and have a child size wheelchair and still have problems getting though door ways. My hands and knuckles are always torn up. I have calluses on every knuckle on both hands.
I think it also says a lot about Merle. Having a great relationship throughout life makes looking after your parents or in-laws a privilege rather than a chore. We, hubby and I decided to live with his mum after his dad passed away. All her friends warned her that she would be unhappy having to living with the daughter-in-law. To their surprise, my nearly 90 year old mum-in-law and I love each other dearly and enjoy sharing our house. She was a great mum and is a loving grandma who now needs a little assistance but doesn’t want to lose her independence. Perfect solution. What a lovely episode
I am electric wheelchair reliant. This tiny home is not disability "accessible" in ANY way. The ramp should have 1" of fall per foot. If damp, my wheelchair would never in a million years get up that ramp. Also, the ledge on which the mattress lies should be flush with the mattress, the kitchen shelves are too high to reach from a wheelchair, a wheelchair could never get through that narrow hallway and through the tiny bathroom doorway, there would be no way to get to the shower chair...I give this tiny home an "F" for accessibility.
@@lisad2701 What is accessible to you also isn’t perfect for other people. There is no one singular standard for disability as someone who has a brother in a wheelchair over 6’3… He would most likely think whatever you see as disability friendly not at all so for him personally… So whatever you design yourself would be an F from him. 🙄 You really don’t have to be so negative and see your way as the only correct one. There is no gold standard when it comes to the challenges people face and how they can be remedied.
@@lisad2701 Agree 100%,I live in Ireland. There are grants available for building an accessible home, however this ramp would definitely not pass. I feel in the wet weather, a crutch, stick,or wheelchair would flip over. A bit more common sense would have made it better. Wishing everyone well in 22'.
Having loving children helps, I'm lucky to have a good son and lovely daughter in law also wonderful grandchildren. I would love to live in a tiny house, retirement coming up, discussions need to had...lol! I don't mean to sound smug re: son etc. I'm fortunate and realise that.
You are making a decision based on assumption. Do not ass-u-me you know how we "old people, seniors, elderly" want to live. It's okay, but you try living in less than 400 SF of space & see how great it is. Drove me crazy!
I agree! I used to and still do kinda kid with my mom that I’m going to put her in the attic when she gets elderly... it’s a running joke but the truth is her and my siblings know I’ll be whom takes care of her and has her a space close to me when she’s old... she’s only 51 right now. Btw @Kuntry Kween you’re cute
I liked that too 😊. I use to tell people I was living for my home but in no way complaining but it was a lot to maintain also it was always on the market meaning I had 24hrs notice before a showing. Today I can enjoy my home although it's not mine it's all I need at my age and with my husband's disabilities and like the lady said it doesn't take all day to clean it so I can enjoy it as well.
I agree with you on that most work to just put all there money in there house and can't fully enjoy it. Or what if you move most home's u can't take with u.
I wish more people had the disposable income to allow the elderly population to live with dignity in their final years. Not trying to be a downer at all. But this is beautiful, and I wish more of us could see this for our parents and grandparents. Also, I want to give this woman the biggest hug. What a sweetheart!!!
You're very right and I too would love to see this being an option for more elderly people. Many who are now reaching retirement age have all their capital invested in land and their home. One of the biggest downsizing demographics is those retiring and tiny houses are becoming a popular option. That means there is also opportunity for tiny house retirement villages etc. Now that I would love to see!
@@livingbig - This is such a great idea. Imagine a field of these homes, all with their own bit of greenery to look at,. Inhabited by retirees who can live independently due to the clever design of their homes, all based around a central communal hub for socialising. Sounds like heaven to me!
TheShauNanigans I don’t think it’s disposable income at all - it’s from selling off their home. Now home ownership itself is a privilege but most ‘mature age’ people I know are asset rich (but often in a home that is not conducive to independent living), income poor. Which is why Tinys are so good - free up income (provided they can access land) but also cheap to run.
@@livingbig I would love to see more cities here in the USA allowing tiny house retirement villages. What an amazing act of freedom for the elderly that would be!
My oldest son told me that he wants to have a nice sized property, so that he can put a tiny home for me on his property. That makes my heart smile. I love this house what a thoughtful daughter!
aliyamoon80 I know what you mean, my son too said the same thing to me and he’s working very hard towards building a decent career. Whether this becomes true or not, it’s still warms my heart, I’m sure all mothers will be touched by this sweet thought.
This home was truly built out of love this daughter has for her mom. And not only that but keeping her mom's need for Independence on the forethought. I think every adult child that has a maturing parent or a parent with disabilities should see this... It truly sets a example of how we should put our parents physical and emotional needs as priority the way they did for us when we were once children.
As an aging senior, I would love to live in a tiny home like this. Easy and accessible. It's lovely and peaceful, close to family, nature, simplicity, and ease of living.
Me too. I love this. So awesome. I am getting up in the mature years( almost 72). Would love to have something like this, nestled on a small acreage or family property. I love my independence for as long as my body cooperates. Family closeness is what is near to me also in these winter years of life.

Yes it is absolutely wonderful - the best I have seen so far and there have been some good uns! No wonder the lady was so thrilled. Tiny houses with tiny steps up to a loft bed are just not practical for so many. I think that the veranda makes all the difference too - a large indoor/outdoor space and such a peaceful place. I wonder what the laws are in England? A mobile home can only be so big.
@@mandyg5747 looks like her daughter is next door, so not far away. I agree that "porch" is what really makes the tiny house nice, and I guess in that part of Australia , the weather is good and that screened in room is year around livable
Yes, I’m so happy to see this! As much as I love tiny houses - I’ve always wondered about accessible tiny houses! They have always seemed pretty exclusionary to people with disabilities. Also - please remember that disability and therefore mobility also affects people who are young too. I’m 28, disabled, and would love an accessible place like this! It’s not just good for older people!
Yer, me too. :D It looks like a great design, but I think getting a wheelchair around 90° into and out of the bathroom looks a little tight. Might need a slight change when/if she needs one full time. 🙂
How blessed she is to have a daughter who is so on touch with her needs. I wish my family could understand how important it is to older people to remain independent. My daughter is a nurse, but still often times forgets how important it is to me to keep my independence. My son-in-law would shove me in assisted living and forget about me. But I have a voice and no one will take my independence from me. God bless her family!
Bless you @Mary... I've understood the need for independent living space that's safe and planned for any potential future needs. My mom, bless her heart stayed in the 2 story home (I'm afraid it's because my children and I moved in to help her and for me to get back on my feet.) I'll never ever forget what she sacrificed at the time .. my eldest sister had a one floor home all set up for her to move into. (downsizing). Miss my mom and dad, and their love and support. 🌹🌹
As a past caregiver for the elderly, I think I can help you here - I have witnessed many adult children place their parents into a care facility, thinking that - even though these homes look lovely from the outside, it is not a good choice for every parent, to lose their independence and have to be placed into an unfavorable environment. One thing I can make clear is how ambulatory are the aging parents? There are nurse aids that can come into the home and care for the parent when time comes that the person can no longer care for their own self. There was once such situation where the aging couple - one had a stroke, and the other parent was so distraught and tired from caring for the other partner, that this person could not keep up the housework - for that reason alone, the adult child put both parents into a facility, sold all their belongings and the house was sold next. My heart broke for this couple, because they did not wish to be placed into a care facility - as I mentioned, it was only the housework that was left unattended. Story goes, that both the husband and wife went downhill health wise, so quickly - and all that was needed was to hire a weekly housekeeper to come in a few times a week and do all the heavy cleaning and grocery shopping - far less costly than placing both parents into a home they did not feel comfortable or happy in - I firmly believe in folks being with their loved ones or close to their loved ones and live as independently as possible. When I get to a point in my life where I need extra care I have advised both of my adult children to let me live in a tiny house with room to grow a garden and free to roam wherever I wish. This adult daughter did the right thing by having this tiny home built for her mother. God will reward her for being so loving to think of her mom's happiness, and not just her own self.
I have to admit I love tiny homes, but whenever I watch super young couples saying "we'll always stay in our tiny home!" and it's got narrow, steep steps up to a loft where you have to crawl in and out of bed...I find myself thinking "you say that NOW, but what are you going to do at 40 or 50 or 60 when your joints and your back don't appreciate the loft anymore?" So it was VERY nice to see a tiny home designed with aging in mind! I love that it's designed to be accessible and I thought it was very well thought out. Lovely!
This is one of my concerns with tiny houses, though I love them. I have autoimmune disease and it sometimes affects my mobility even now. All the tinyhomes I've seen this far involve acrobatics to get to the bedroom and it's like no one thinks about their aging. This is amazing what she's done.
Considering the costs of assisted living and nursing homes it would be really neat if this kind of place were an option for those on Medicaid or disability.
Agreed...most tiny homes have loft bedrooms. Imho this is a major flaw because one need not be elderly to be physically incapacited. At the age of 16 I broke my back. I was in hospital for a number of months but had I lived in a tiny home.. with a loft bedroom, I could not have gone home. I am not 'anti' Tiny homes but it must have a main floor bedroom space... otherwise when illness or old age strikes... you might not be able to go home... not a pleasant prospect.
I'm dumbfounded...this is what I wish I could do for my mom. Our parents work so hard to take care of us, they deserve the same. I absolutely love this house
You don't see tiny houses that cater to the elderly or the handicapped and they did an outstanding job on this one so she could be safe and independent at the same time!

@@lisad2701 Then you would tweak your own tiny home for the lifestyle you have. As I am sure this lady and her mother will do for theirs as the time comes. So, you are giving HER home an "F" for YOUR accessibility, not HERS.
@@carolesmith4864 The video calls this a "Disability/Mobility Friendly" tiny home when it is not. That woman is not disabled. My point is, there is no "tiny home" that can accommodate truly mobility disabled people. It is a farce to suggest that such small spaces can accommodate us. The absolute minimum in square feet is 640. I've been designing homes for the disabled for several years and these kinds of misrepresentations really piss me off.
JW Suicides yes!!!! Things can happen at any point in life to anyone so we should really all be more considerate of special needs like this even if we don’t need them now. Even for injuries! If you are temporarily disabled, or sick..... a home is a place you want to be comfortable in all of those potential situations even if they aren’t ideal. :) ✌️👍
bodybalancer This is so true! As many people find out after an injury or surgery that requires them to use a wheelchair or walker-that some doorways aren’t wide enough for a wheelchair, and some spaces are laid out where maneuvering a walker is even impossible.
Very true. I found that out years back at Heathrow Airport. That's a huge important airport for the UK. I found that one of their toilet facilities I could get my wheelchair in, but not out. They didn't even know that. Got them to rebuild it but such basic mistakes shouldn't happen.
@@rneustel388 you are right and what is to stop builders from replacing "normal" size doors to ones that are a little wider so that if something happens you can get a walker or wheelchair through the door and come to think of it the furniture as well.
This got me teary eyed. The daughter's love for her mother is reflected in this house. The daughter has thought of everything to make her mother comfortable, and safe.
This grandmother is the sweetest! Every time I watch this video (and I have watched it a few times because I love this design), I am tickled by the grandmother and how Bryce seems equally delighted by her. I imagine she immediately asked him if he wanted tea and a cookie!
I wish you a happy new year! Thank you for the tour. It's a beautiful house, but the owner is even more so - such a lovely lady! I hope she will enjoy living there for many, many years to come.
Hey Patrick! You're right, lots of these elements are just good to build into a home regardless. The heated floors are a real luxury, and in tiny homes they are much more affordable to run because you're not having to heat such a large space.
I think this goes to prove that design for elders or disabilities can actually appeal to everyone. I love the space it feels more open than most small builds.
@@livingbig do you build these kind of homes anywhere in the world ? And In developing nations like china and India ?? Please let me kNow. I Will be eagerly waiting for a reply
Oh WOW, I am sending this link to my children with a major hint and nudge LOL. It being tiny gives you that wanting to go outside and explore, but man the openness of that space with the view it has. Its a billion times better than any retirement home ever.

Beautiful home, but the loving family stood out most.
This was honestly my favorite house so far. It represents exactly the kind of home I want as my journey with multiple autoimmune diseases continues. I'm sharing this with my grown children ASAP!!😁😍
Hey there. Warm hugs to you... I wish you a good health and happiness in your life. And also your fav tiny house that comes with accessibility and functional. ♥️
@Michael Tucker 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻 absolutely agree. I add, a healthy vegan lifestyle ♥️ Vegan doesn't automatically mean "healthy". I'd call it "plant based". Healed so many people already 🙏🏻
@@k-mixxx7927 yes...I agree...I also suffer from a few autoimmune disorders... going plant based has helped me to be in control of it...I'm not even a vegan..I'm 90 percent plant-based, and very occassionally do eat fish..:)
I have EDS and will probably be totally dependent on my wheelchair before I'm 25, right now I can't go anywhere without splints and my walking stick I always daydream about the beautiful houses you show but I know I couldn't live in them, this one is different and it's so refreshing to see an alternative living option that also happens to be accessible Loved the video, beautiful home, lovely mom, sweet daughter and adorable grandkids !
Noémie Daniel-Endo Sweetheart, you need to consult w ppl who do bldg. With all the bad surgeries, seniors wo real retirement income, and disabled ppl, this will be a great business well into the future. More isnt being done right now bc most ppl havent a clue (as you know) about what challenged ppl can and cannot do and what they need. So, get together w some ppl who can do these houses and inspire them. They will get busy once they begin to really understand what is needed. Good luck!
Not much of a commenter, but my husband has EDS. He used a cane and electric grocery store carts for years. He slowly (SLOWLY) rehabbed himself, and after 4 years on disability, he has been back at work for 2 years now. Please don't give up hope and keep at it--you may not get off the cane but you may be able to stave off the wheelchair. Sending good vibes.
I also have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and I am so into the tiny house movement, partially because these houses seem so handy as far as things being close together. The ones with ladders/lofts/fold-outs are so out of reach for me too. But this one. ❤️🥊
Even though this is a Tiny home, and I’m watching it 1yr later. This still makes my heart warm. It’s such a grandmas house and it’s older/disability friendly. Which is even better.
My favorite TINY. No loft ...YA ! Bed idea perfect.... more closet space than I've ever seen...shower spacious ...rare... kitchen table /cabinet... width of walk way...& Best of all you know where your mom is and how she's doing...
It's gorgeous and so are these ladies.Bless this Daughter for understanding everything .She has designed a house of happy for her sweet Mom! I would love to have one just like it someday!
I loved the bed, too, with no loft to have to climb a ladder to get into. I loved how she can stay nice and warm and still see all her views and the wild things that come to visit.
I agree, the videos are well made and this community seems to attract a lot of good people who realise the true value of family and friends and who want to live more sustainably while also enjoying life. We can only hope that the tiny house movement continues to grow. If it does it may change the way we live forever.
Eastcoast Blogger Well, I can only speak for myself...but I just really want to own my home and financially, that would only be feasible for me, if I lived outside in the country. And I really don’t want to commute daily. I want a traveling bus remodel, ideally. Not a school bus, mind you, but a modern vehicle with decent speed and all that. That way, I can park close to work during the week (on private ground, of course, but I should be able to find a suitable corner, I can rent and then spent the weekend wherever I want. In the countryside, traveling...I could take my nephew with me on some adventure tours, when he is a little bit older... I‘ll never get around to traveling, if it involves trains and airplanes and hotels, honestly, it just exhausts me. And I‘ve lived in a two room apartment all my adult live, so it’s not, like I would be downsizing all that much.
Perfect in every way! Especially now, at 68 I'm overcome with pain and mobility issues. The color scheme is so soothing, turquoise is my favorite color, and there are all shades of it everywhere. Brings tears to my eyes to see the loving consideration given this lady and her joy and appreciation of it! Thanks and blessings for posting this! 🙏👏👍👍❤️
I don't think I have ever commented before, but I ended this video in tears. It was just a beautiful video, my favorite one yet. It was truly touching, and loving, and genuine. It gave me such hope about the possibilities of aging well, even if disability becomes a reality. And it just gives hope that even if a disability happens sooner, there is still beautiful quality of life. And I love the tenderness which with the daughter, and apparently the whole family, lavishes on this sweet woman. She is truly blessed. I wish this could be true for more elderly people, tiny house or not. Thanks for this episode.
She is very lucky to have such a functional, charming home. All the features for senior living. Love the way the bed is stored & electronic. She is living the dream!
I like that bed feature as well, I've seen a lot of videos with tiny homes and you either have to go up a ladder or some sort of stairs to get to a loft for the bed, that isn't disability friendly at all, the electric bed is awesome, I bet will become more popular over time as more people find out about it, its there, its simple to use, yet out of the way when not needed.

Hey I just wanted to say that I don't really have a hope of retirement based on current social norms but watching your RUclips channel gives me hope and I'm saving up for my goal of 40K CAD to build a tiny home. You're a social credit and I don't think that maybe you realize how important you and your GF are to some people doing all the editing and work you do. It's a complete pleasure to watch your videos, I've realized what I like and don't like Aesthetically. It's like Christmas everytime you guys put out a new video. Thank you, I mean that from the bottom of my heart. You help me more emotionally than my therapist does, and he has 10 years of education. The best decks I've ever seen.
I agree wholeheartedly. We are approaching retirement and seeing these videos makes me bullish that our lives will continue to be blessed and enjoyable, no matter what happens. Cheers!
I so thoroughly agree. And your statement of your therapist made me laugh. Therapist help you to 'function' within a lot of confines. Tiny Houses help you to dream about souvereignity within your own set of confines. I pray you will succeed!!!
That woman and her daughter are my favorites so far. They’re absolutely wonderful and so down to earth. It’s nice to see her being able to enjoy life. It seems like a great idea for my grandmother if she want so country and stubborn =) I love her stubbornness though
Very true...bedrooms in these tiny houses have less accessibility which always makes me wonder when you have to go to loo in the middle of the night, u have to get down the ladder and climb back which is so inconvenient....this is how it should be...bedroom should be accessible to toilets!
There are plenty of tiny houses made with a bedroom on the main floor. Keep looking. The manufacturers got wise about there being so many of us who can't do stairs. I save the loft for visiting nephews.
@@lucygray6162 One cannot do stairs, so to see this beautifully designed home that took into account not only present issues but anticipated issues as well was delightful.
Btw, these are great ideas, just keep in mind that many people in a wheelchair need a ramp that is less than 8 percent slope. Especially if they don’t have a powered wheelchair. I am leaning towards building an additional home on our property so that my brother, my cousin, and myself can age in place here and rent out the main house as a source of income.
I was thinking they have the space to "double" the ramp and make the grade less difficult when she ages into needing a chair. It is a bit steep but at least it has a sturdy rail and a really excellent non-slip surface.
@@mickyunit - Thanks! I can't take full credit. Where I live (Seattle, USA) many businesses are very disability-aware and accommodating. I'm not sure how much is mandated by state or city regulations, but I do see many "switchback" ramps that have a very gentle over-all grade and sturdy (e.g. metal sunk into poured concrete) railings. As I use a roller-walker (temporarily, I hope) I'm very appreciative of the ramps and I see many elders with canes using the ramps and railings to get up to a public building. Of course, they're also lovely for parents with strollers, or shoppers with rolling carts. One can make them quite attractive with non-skid tiles in a pretty pattern and metal railings with a motif or pattern, like leaves or vines.
That is planning ahead. Good for you! I hope you succeed. So many of the Commenters say “I wish ...” and “The government needs to ...” or bash anybody who saves their money. Best wishes!
Looking at the automation used in this tiny house for mom, I would say it would be very expensive. But for someone who understands the value of family and caring for parents I believe it worth all the money in the world. This would also be a very valuable example for the granddaughter on how to take care of her mom who has the golden heart for her mother. Live long and prosper 🤘
@@paulapwrm As the original commenter said, that would be considered expensive. The overwhelming majority of people in most parts of this world do not have access to that amount of money & wouldn't unless they saved for a good amount of years AND took donations/ loans.
@@luminescent__ didn't she say that she had a 4 bedroom house? She probably sold it and then there was enough money for this tiny house. But yes, anyway, not everyone has a house to sell
This video made me cry all the way through. This lady is such a marvelous person. I loved her answer to your question about what her favorite part of the tiny house was and she couldn't name just one thing. She is so gratefull to her daughter for designing such a wonderful home and her daughter is just an amazing person to have thought so long and hard about every single one of her mother's needs and how to meet them. This is such a wholesome channel. I really hope you never stop doing this amazing, beautiful and stunningly hosted and edited videos. The sound quality of the speaking portions is so great as well, I always marvel at how clearly you can hear their voices and fully understand what they're all saying, even those ones who speak a little softer and a little more garbled. Cheers to an amazing channel.
Wow she literally built a beautiful, functional tiny HOME for her mother SPECIFIC to all of her mother's needs and on a nice plot of land with Wildlife and nature as far as your eyes can see (and I didn't hear her say she studied architecture).🥺 I need to let that sink in for a minute.
I feel like this is a really important somewhat slept-on topic in the Tiny home movement! For those who want their tiny dream homes to someday truly be their “forever” home.... these are things that need to be considered. My Grandma is 91...and she considered this sort of thing in her home she built for herself back in the day where she still lives relatively independently. May we all be so blessed!
I love this and want to say FINALLY. There are younger people with disabilities also and those of us that want an empty nester home to remain in until we meet God. We need “small homes” not “tiny homes” (1 bedroom, 1.5 bath, one story houses, not on wheels).
Brilliantly covered ..thank you!!! I am designing my tiny home to be friendly to Sensory Processing Disorder and Fibromyalgia and like you said perhaps unexpected mobility issues! I hope to see more videos like this across all mediums. Well thought out push button and manual options. So happy to see this..
Hi RV Joey! Glad you could find a little bit of inspiration in this video. That sounds like a really interesting project you're doing. I'd like to know more about how you can design to be friendly for sensory processing disorder.
I will.. it will have more mechanical, gravity and turnkey for the fatigue. Who doesn't want a quiet reliable house with a flex floorplan. I'm calling it Flexy. A few things will be on wheels too..inside and out. Ttyl Joey I have to watch this video again!
Yes, I'd love to hear about the sensitivity portion, a friend and I are both autistic and would love a quiet, easy to clean (no vaccuums) and light variable home, if at all possible. It helps with the anxiety
What a wonderful solution for her. I hope that we will see more communities embracing allowing families to have tinies on their property for older family members.
This is really cool. I live with my grandma who walks with a walker and my twin brother who is total wheelchair and I who walk with a cane, so it's nice so see that there are options for disabled people. thank you for showing this!
Hello, I have watched this video again and I feel the same as 3 years ago. Now, I am 65 y and I would like a tiny house like her. Thank you for this wonderful video.
the government needs to get on board with something like this. Most American houses are too big and expensive for peoples' needs. The smile on her mum's face is priceless.
There's already hundreds of thousands of unoccupied houses and appartments in the USA. Some people and firms outright use real estate as time-gated investments, not even for living in it. There is no need to build any more. Seize and adapt what's already there.
@@dezs7564 Everything _people_ touch turns to shit. It has nothing to do with the government specifically. The private sector's track record is no better, but in that case we generally just let individuals take the fall when shit happens instead of blaming the whole corporate system.
not just Americans. I live in freaking Budapest/Hungary / poor as hell, in a 50sqm apartment 1+1 alone, it is huge for me, but this is one of the cheapest I can rent like now if I want to live alone in the city (older building, not a new one). Most of the apartments in Budapest have 20-30 sqm rooms and 2-3 of them + kitchen + bathroom. For what? Nobody knows because most of this doesn't have a parking spot assigned to them. Do you know who wants to live this big? A family here. Do you know what do they need? A parking spot. Yeay historical cities. The modern homes are better but they cost much more cos' they are mainly rented or sold to students/workers from richer countries mostly, sad. My grandma lives 2-3 times bigger apartment than me just because "this is what she stuck with" after the family moved out during the years. It is a huge burden to pay the upkeep of these too big spaces and I can not understand why humans do this with themselves.
This is a brilliantly designed house. As my fiancee is a full leg amputee we could live there quite happily. It's designed really well with no steps or trip hazards. The addition of the enclosed verandah is also very well thought of and complements the house nicely.
That was wonderful, as a disabled person I loved the ideas and design of the home. I could also feel the love between mother and daughter, the love, care and consideration of her mother's wants and future needs makes this a design of love.
I am in the process of building something similar for my parents while my children are literally in the process of providing a space for my husband and I(I am partially disabled). It’s the cycle of life. We made every loving and living accommodation for our daughters for their entire childhood and they appreciate and accommodate us now. It’s call reciprocity. Family needs to know that we are interdependent upon one another....

What a nice video to kick off a new year! A tiny house with no climbing-up-and-down is also what I am looking for. Thanks for introducing this beautiful piece of heaven to us. Will definitely draw some inspiration from it when I do my design.
Yes, that's the other thing. I'm definitely in good enough shape to climb up to a loft bed (and maybe it would be good exercise). But I *really* don't want that. And what if I get sick or something? That would be a real pain.
This was such a great project she did for her Mom and I turned out perfect. Mom is such a sweetheart and it's so nice she can spend her "mature" years taking care of herself.
There is a group of "baby boomers" who need this type of living situation. However, they may not have living family or any family of their own. We need to join up and create communities and provide options for people who are not moving to be close to children or grandchildren and wish for a lovely life like this.
Here is a trick for you who can create a win win situation. If there is an homeless shelter in your city, you can hire someone part time. In return you provide shower and foods, and some place to do their laundry, etc. Service for service = win win. Same thing could be with a student who need some extra little income. By the way, homeless doesn't mean danger or useless or heartless, you have to see.
A community of tiny homes could also have a common house with laundry facilities, guest rooms, and a big party room and theater. This takes care of most of the problems of being tiny.
When - WHEN! - I build my tiny house I’m using every single one of these accessibility ideas! I’m in my 30s but I want my home to be safe for my elderly mom and my young daughter. Ugh! It’s all so thoughtful!
Thanks for sharing this. I currently have my 93 year old uncle living in my 320 sq ft tiny. We live in rural Nebraska and when I built the tiny (started over 10 years ago-finished completely Sept 2019) I built it with handicap accessibility in mind. We didn't put in a kitchen, but Uncle Fred is very resourceful and has made that work for him anyway... yes, he still cooks and cares for himself. What a blessing it is to have him right outside my back door. We have had a couple of illness needs that I was glad to be close to help him. Peace of mind for both him and me! I can tell you all, from experience... having your loved ones close and being able to be there for them is the greatest pleasure and gift that I have been given. Like this woman and her family there is just JOY for everyone!
This tiny home is AMAZING!!!! I am so happy to see a tiny home made to maturing people! I have disabilities and often wondered if I could get a tiny house to work for me as I fall so easily. They have thought of everything with this lovely home making it easily accessible and trip free. I love that! I also love that large porch, so nice to have and more open space for this lovely lady. I agree with her, how can you pick a favorite then the whole thing is a favorite?! I also agree with Annika Victoria, mobility and disability effect the young as well, so this would be great for many people to keep their independence! Love that the daughter helped her mum with all of this!
I think the idea of building your own house, tiny or not, is making it customable to suit your need! This house is very cool. I hope one day you can built your dream house too.
Not only people with dissabilities, older oeople and any adult, we all need quality safe living. Nothing should put you at risk nor your children. That toilet is great for anyone's back.
Hi I was amazed to see somthing that could help me to continue to take care of my husband with his medical treatment. I pray you maybe get one built for you . I loved that big porch also it made me think of my own mom. May God bless you.
Thank you SO much for checking out a home like this. I was a nurse on a geriatric unit and the amount of times people couldn't go home due to the safety concerns and set ups was so heartbreaking. The grab bars, the safety elements of the stove and the ramp are wonderful. She should be able to stay there for such a long time, even if she does need an aid. This is wonderful and makes my heart happy. Wishing her health and a long happy life ❤. This brought tears to my eyes...the amount of people who can never go home again is overwhelming after some time and I am so thankful her family has the resources to do this for her. I have seen so many who do not. Wondering if a ramp with railing on one side and bench that folds down with a railing behind it on the other side would be a good idea for the bed "steps"...incase she needs to transfer from a wheel chair and the bed is too high.
And what a way to start!! Bryce this one brought tears to my eyes!! What a completely beautiful experience for this dear lady to be living in such an incredible abode right there with her family! The meaning of this all having been created and tailor made for their gorgeous matriarch. All the clever design elements and the whole look of the property is stunning and would suit any age. This project is really a lot of food for thought when it comes to people of any age with physical limitations. I am a younger person with a disability and this design has so much to offer. It is amazing in that none of the features which are assistive detract from the look of the property. This design could really be seen as a sort of prototype in tiny house design for people with physical limitations. Bravo! Many blessings to her! And may she spend many happy years in her lovely home.
A lovely home for a lovely woman! And her daughter is so good at detailing the features, which I appreciate. I'd quite enjoy sitting out there and watching the rabbits and kangaroos myself!
Ferne thought of EVERY detail that her mum needed to be independent, safe and comfortable. I love how the front of the house is a true grandmother area plus the wonderful garden for her. The landscape views with the animals are breathtaking.
Such a lovely, adorable lady, and what a wonderful daughter😍♥️ Gorgeous nature and a sweet, cozy home😍 I was smiling the whole time watching this, warms my heart♥️ Just beautiful!
Merle is living in Heaven on Earth. What a Beautiful Home. Everything she would ever need is right there. Merle is safe and happy and that's the most important thing in life. God Bless her and her wonderful family.
I am so sorry to hear this. My condolences ❤️
💛
So sorry for your loss. Merle's tiny is lovely and she must be happy having spent her last years there.
My condolences
I think I am about to cry! 😭 The way the mother is so taken care of and is happy with her quality of life is beautiful!
I already did! I am a mess! Smh! Lol
Me too. I hadn't watched that far. Now I am crying, too. Die beiden sind ja so süß. Where do you find women like one of those two?
Got some dust or something in my eye..... 😢
Yes. She is happy like an Angel in the heaven
I had happy tears watching this as well! Looks like a lovely piece of heaven. Very inspiring!
As a disabled person, I've never actually seen a tiny home that could be livable for me! This is really cool.
Me either. I'm small and have a child size wheelchair and still have problems getting though door ways. My hands and knuckles are always torn up. I have calluses on every knuckle on both hands.
I feel it's all about the imagination and good and smart people who can make awesome designs come true
It is isn't it?🌺💚
I have mine drawn up, but any ideas for it to be more accessible would be amazing.
Myself as well.
Isn't the lady's daughter amazing. Thought of everything and did everything for her mother.
Yessss she is. The design is incredibly amazing.

That's the reflection of how great the mum was. She raised her daughter brilliantly and it paid off.
She is an adorable daughter!!!!!!
Forget about "This is built for elderly." This makes so much sense for anyone. It was made with common sense and beauty. Love it!
Agreed!
Absolutely
This is how our older generation should be living, close to family and in a safe environment.
I fully agree.
Amazing set up😃
Having loving children helps, I'm lucky to have a good son and lovely daughter in law also wonderful grandchildren. I would love to live in a tiny house, retirement coming up, discussions need to had...lol! I don't mean to sound smug re: son etc. I'm fortunate and realise that.
My son refuses contact because his wife hates us. I so wish we were wanted and are frightened for the future.
You are making a decision based on assumption. Do not ass-u-me you know how we "old people, seniors, elderly" want to live. It's okay, but you try living in less than 400 SF of space & see how great it is. Drove me crazy!
Wish more people treated their aging family members this way. We need to take care of them as they took care of us
💚 this !
Agree!
I absolutely agree with you and this is my favorite
Sometimes they can’t. They are swimming as hard as they can to not drown, can’t take on an elder.
agree
"I don't want to live for a house...I want to enjoy one" - gotta say I loved that x
Melanie Rose 🌹 rose for a rose :)
That was an attention grabber!
I loved that x ...!?
I have no way to do this. But I would love to.
@@livingbig I would love to see more cities here in the USA allowing tiny house retirement villages. What an amazing act of freedom for the elderly that would be!
The daughter was very professional, informative and kind to her Mother. I like that.
Her Mom was also open to her and cooperative. Sadly most things were a battle with my Mom. They are blessed.
juve77 She's an absolute Blessing.
I deleted my post, thanks for pointing that out to me. I went back and listened to it twice again and got it. : )
I noticed that too! It warmed my heart 🧡
You can tell she really loves and respects her mother! She wants her to be happy and comfortable! I love it!
I would like to have one like this too...I would just tweek mine a little bit and be just fine!
To God Be Glory!💖🙏💖
is it your son doing this then you mention a daughter - which one is doing this
@@juliecoulter8284 Son = Her Son (Aliyamoon80's), Daughter = the Lady's daughter in the video..
I am electric wheelchair reliant. This tiny home is not disability "accessible" in ANY way. The ramp should have 1" of fall per foot. Wow.... if the daughter doesn’t make these houses for a living she absolutely should!
Sounds like she does. She's using technical speech to describe materials and the things she's thought of as far as safety speaks to design experience!
@@mandyg5747 looks like her daughter is next door, so not far away. I agree that "porch" is what really makes the tiny house nice, and I guess in that part of Australia , the weather is good and that screened in room is year around livable
Sounds like she works in aged care
INDEED!!! 😊
The amount of thought the daughter put into this to be able to give her mother security and independence is very touching.
I love, love, love this Tiny home..very well thought out. I'd love to have one just like this!!
Annika Victoria omg I'm so happy you watch this channel too! I adore yours!
Yer, me too. :D
It looks like a great design, but I think getting a wheelchair around 90° into and out of the bathroom looks a little tight.
Might need a slight change when/if she needs one full time. 🙂
Hi Annika! So glad to see you here, I love your channel too
Love that you watch this channel too. X
the bed was a sweet idea since i usually see lofts with stairs
How blessed she is to have a daughter who is so on touch with her needs. I wish my family could understand how important it is to older people to remain independent. My daughter is a nurse, but still often times forgets how important it is to me to keep my independence. My son-in-law would shove me in assisted living and forget about me. But I have a voice and no one will take my independence from me. God bless her family!
Bless your heart ❤ yes, you stick to your guns too xx Take care 💖
Bless you @Mary... I've understood the need for independent living space that's safe and planned for any potential future needs. My mom, bless her heart stayed in the 2 story home (I'm afraid it's because my children and I moved in to help her and for me to get back on my feet.) I'll never ever forget what she sacrificed at the time .. my eldest sister had a one floor home all set up for her to move into. (downsizing). Miss my mom and dad, and their love and support. 🌹🌹
God bless you Mary! Hope you stay as independent as you want. Take good care💐
@@Angel4rose7 100% agree
I have to admit I love tiny homes, but whenever I watch super young couples saying "we'll always stay in our tiny home!" and it's got narrow, steep steps up to a loft where you have to crawl in and out of bed...I find myself thinking "you say that NOW, but what are you going to do at 40 or 50 or 60 when your joints and your back don't appreciate the loft anymore?"
So it was VERY nice to see a tiny home designed with aging in mind! I love that it's designed to be accessible and I thought it was very well thought out. Lovely!
Totally agree
Agreed, I didn’t think of it that way.
“I don’t want to live for a house. I want to enjoy one!” Amen to that
This is one of my concerns with tiny houses, though I love them.
Agree love these kind of house but the lack of mobilty or options in this kind is an issues. I want to see more for people with lack of mobility.
@@oliviafox3310 i thought of that also...
AWSOME! THIS IS GREAT FOR THE ELDERLY, DISABLED AND LOW INCOME FOLKS. THE HELL WITH BIG HOMES. WASTE OF MONEY FOR MANY PEOPLE. VERY CLEVER.
I am electric wheelchair reliant. This tiny home is not disability "accessible" in ANY way. The ramp should have 1" of fall per foot.
32 inches- standard for a doorway for a wheelchair- just do it and hope you never need it!
Very happy for her. As a younger disabled person it's interesting to see possibilities.
JW Suicides !! Yes!

A great start to 2019!
I am only 54 and I want many of these things now just to simplify things. Heated floors for sure. Great home and wonderful family.

Good point! It's actually just a lovely and practical design that would have wide appeal. Thanks for watching Serenity!

With all the bad surgeries, seniors wo real retirement income, and disabled ppl, this will be a great business well into the future. So, get together w some ppl who can do these houses and inspire them. They will get busy once they begin to really understand what is needed. Good luck!
As someone else with EDS, I can definitely relate to this comment. I'd love to go the tiny home route, but accessibility is a must.

I love the pride this momma has when her daughter is basically an engineer. Probably is an engineer.
Oh I agree with you it's my favorite too
I loved the bed, too, with no loft to have to climb a ladder to get into. I loved how she can stay nice and warm and still see all her views and the wild things that come to visit.
I love this channel. So much positivity. From Bryce, to the house owners, to the comments. Wonderful.
Thanks Dev! I really do love the positivity we get in the comments of our videos. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
I agree, the videos are well made and this community seems to attract a lot of good people who realise the true value of family and friends and who want to live more sustainably while also enjoying life. We can only hope that the tiny house movement continues to grow. If it does it may change the way we live forever.
It's like a good hug, makes you feel the same! 😁
The tiny house movement reminds me of the space program, so many innovations arising from it to benefit the whole world! 💗
Love this comment. :)

Well, I can only speak for myself...but I just really want to own my home and financially, that would only be feasible for me, if I lived outside in the country.
Exactly! I don’t want to live in a tiny house, but I love seeing clever storage ideas.

I agree with you, same feeling. 💞💞😊

Myself as well. I see so much of my own mama in her. What a beautiful and well thought out space! ❤
As a recently disabled woman, I found this brilliant. Thank you for expanding my horizons xx
You're welcome Charlotte! I'm glad that you could find a little inspiration in this video.
Fight on, it gets easier.
@@malinw1910 thanks for the good vibe. Happy New year.
There is so much love in this home it makes my heart sing.
This house has character.
Such a magnificent daughter!
The mother is truly blessed.
What a sweet lady. I hope she enjoys her tiny home for years to come. Beautiful!
She is very lucky to have such a functional, charming home. All the features for senior living. Love the way the bed is stored & electronic. She is living the dream!
She really is! I'm especially envious of they stunning view from her home. It's a great set-up indeed.
I love that they did this for her. She's so blessed
I love the sign
“Some people look for a beautiful home, some people make a beautiful home”.

Bryce i have seen 1000's of Tiny Homes and truthfully this touched my Heart to see the Love of a Daughter and a Mother and wow what a Awesome Daughter and Lovely Home as well. Thank You for sharing these Great Stories,, 💕❤️💕
I agree with you wholeheartedly!
Adam MacLeod j
I agree wholeheartedly. We are approaching retirement and seeing these videos makes me bullish that our lives will continue to be blessed and enjoyable, no matter what happens. Cheers!
I so thoroughly agree. And your statement of your therapist made me laugh. Therapist help you to 'function' within a lot of confines. Tiny Houses help you to dream about souvereignity within your own set of confines. I pray you will succeed!!!

That woman and her daughter are my favorites so far. They’re absolutely wonderful and so down to earth. It’s nice to see her being able to enjoy life. It seems like a great idea for my grandmother if she want so country and stubborn =)
I love her stubbornness though
Hey Emu! Haha, she certainly is stubborn! We had so much fun meeting this family and getting to know them. They are such lovely people.
The home you built for your mother was a beautiful gift to a beautiful person! This home is the benchmark to beat! Rest in peace Merle!
I'd love a tiny house but they all have ladders or stairs to climb. This is such a great idea.
Very true...bedrooms in these tiny houses have less accessibility which always makes me wonder when you have to go to loo in the middle of the night, u have to get down the ladder and climb back which is so inconvenient....this is how it should be...bedroom should be accessible to toilets!
me to I rather want alittle longer one with bedroom and everything on 1st floor. like a flat^^
There are plenty of tiny houses made with a bedroom on the main floor. Keep looking. The manufacturers got wise about there being so many of us who can't do stairs. I save the loft for visiting nephews.
@@lucygray6162 oh cool thanks ❤️
That's a great idea!
If they ever needed to lower the ramp angle, it could be extended around the corner of the patio, to where the gas bottles are currently.
Did you watch it to the end? They said that everything, including landscaping, gardens, etc. was about $140K.
@@paulapwrm and used her daughters land?
No, I am not crying. This is the BEST episode ever. Bravo, Bryce, bravo.
Yes!! It has always bothered me how most tiny homes are not accessible. Thank you so much for showcasing this home.
@@RVJoey Sounds great! Keep me in the loop and let me know how you get on! :)
I hope somehow you will share your finished home with us!! Best of luck! I can’t wait to see the completion!!
I watched this whole video with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye. What a lovely family and a lovely home 🥰😍🥰
Yes yes yes!!! Finally a disability friendly tiny house!!! Absolutely love it!!!!!!
This is by far the most clever tiny house i have ever seen . Great job
I love how she emphasized the importance of being close and having family. Focusing on what really matters, she seems so at peace
This is genius. Everything for aging has been thought of. A home to live out her life. It’s so cosy. She must be so happy here 😊
One minute in and I'm about to cry. I would love this for my father when he's older
I LOVE that lady!! I wish her many more happy years in her little piece of heaven on earth. 🌺🌸💮
Aw, thanks Karin! She is such a lovely person. We really enjoyed our time with her.
Totally agree!
No, no! Don't get the government involved.
This is the most beautiful story I've ever watched. How wonderful are these people ❤️
I am in the process of building something similar for my parents while my children are literally in the process of providing a space for my husband and I(I am partially disabled). It’s the cycle of life. We made every loving and living accommodation for our daughters for their entire childhood and they appreciate and accommodate us now. It’s call reciprocity. Family needs to know that we are interdependent upon one another....
How will this happened?
Very very well said. It is the way family is meant to be.
I feel this needs to come from love and bonds though, not a feeling of obligation.
I'm not mature mature lol, but have a chronic illness and have been looking everywhere for something like this, I love your channel and am so pleased to see something like this 😁😁
Hey Shell! Thanks and I'm glad we could find a home which can maybe give you some inspiration for your own design.
What a nice video to kick off a new year! A tiny house with no climbing-up-and-down is also what I am looking for. Thanks for introducing this beautiful piece of heaven to us. Will definitely draw some inspiration from it when I do my design.
Thanks Laura! Glad you could find some inspiration in this video. Thanks for watching and all the best for your own build one day!
Yes, that's the other thing. I'm definitely in good enough shape to climb up to a loft bed (and maybe it would be good exercise). But I *really* don't want that. And what if I get sick or something? That would be a real pain.
Such a thoughtful build. You can feel the love her daughter poured into that home design. I would hire her to design my home if I could. So brilliant!
This was such a great project she did for her Mom and I turned out perfect. Mom is such a sweetheart and it's so nice she can spend her "mature" years taking care of herself.
Impressive, the best arranged “tiny-house” I’ve seen, the “lift when not in use bed” is genius!
Go ahead. But don’t sit on your ass and demand that Government do it.
@@kathyyoung1774 government could help by changing property and building regulations, just thinking 🤔
It’s called Cohousing.
Folks in your line of work should rent yourselves out for consulting to TH designers.
Srsly!

These women just melted my heart and this home is just so clever. She’s thought of absolutely everything for her mom, rather “mum”. What a dream.
The mum seems like a totally delightful person. What a wonderful design. ❤❤
It reminded me of the importance of looking after our elders and caring for the elderly in our lives. Was quite beautiful.
