Those engines are a PITA to remove! I found one a couple of years back in an Isuzu Ascender, and it took me THREE DAYS to pull. Admittedly, I was alone. And I didn’t start until early afternoon each day. On the other hand, the fact that the LH6 can be found in something labelled as an Isuzu or (especially) SAAB means that these are possibly the easiest aluminum LS motors to find in the junkyard.
@@travisblack417 when you say functionally identical, we're talking cathedral ports, all aluminum, what other intakes can I bolt onto this directly to get greater air flow? I keep seeing people posting at LS6 intakes will fit but as far as I can tell that's a rectangle port not cathedral. I've been stalking your channel for a long time hoping for a little bit of insight into how I can upgrade my V8 Colorado with factory parts so I can still claim it's all factory. I do have aftermarket exhaust, volant cold air, and diablo EX platinum... Looking to build towards a spicy E85 tune, if that exists. Any ideas you're willing to share?
@@thissiteadmin watch the video where I tear down both of these engines that I pulled. I explained it in pretty great detail. Basically despite having 12 different 5.3 RPO codes, there is only 2 different 5.3 engines. The LH8/LH9 in your Colorado is the “high performance” variant that first debuted in 2005 with the L33/LH6/LS4. By 2007 all 5.3’s were this higher performance variant. The higher performance variant has floating wrist pins, flat top 3.780 pistons (10.0cr), cathedral 243/799 heads (64cc), and most have the “TBSS” style intake. Most of the different RPO codes just refer to the application the engine came in, or irrelevant stuff like block material or e85/gasoline. Btw the “low performance” variant is the LM7/LM4/L59. These early engines have dish pistons (9.5cr), mostly pressed wrist pins, 706/862 heads (61cc), and all have the early style of truck intake manifold.
@@thissiteadmin there is no manifold that is going to perform better than the current one you have. Even the high/low ram manifolds only make more power because they give up a ton down low. Your current throttle body is 87mm which is more than enough. If you want more power out of that thing it needs cam.

Why are you using the ls engine it's the worst engine ever made that's why there so many in the junkyard ask cletus how many he has blown up there garbage engine it's like throwing your money in the fire 🔥 it will blow up they always do .
I follow a guy named "Richard holdener" on yt. He does every test imaginable on just about every engine imaginable; and of course does even more with LS engines. He shows what the weak points are on each motor and does Big bang tests to find out at what power level they grenade and what breaks. It's usually the Gen 3 motors the rods are the weak link. As long as the rings are gapped at .008/inch of bore space and they are Gen 4 rods, they will handle upwards of 30 lb of boost with stock bottom end. Well over 1000 HP and up to 1400 sbe

On the old channel yes, but I’ve been thinking about doing another one.
Hope to see a exploratory video on the core engine.

Did you guys ever try to get your hands on a LH9? All aluminum flex fuel 325ci 300hp...

The LH9 is functionally identical to the LH6. The only difference is stock injector size (36lb vs 30lb)
