Junkyard LS Hunting: Back To Sun Valley LKQ PYP For Swap Parts

  • Finally made back at Sun Valley LKQ. Today we’re not trying to pull a motor, but rather find a handful of very specific parts to complete two separate LS swaps that I’m currently working on.
    If anyone is looking to purchase any sort of junkyard General Motors drivetrain please feel free to reach out. The way the market is going I am potentially going to phase out of “flipping” engines. I’m looking into going out and finding whatever engine/trans someone is specifically looking for ahead of time. This way I don’t have to pull engines, sit on them for months at a time, and then sell them at a much higher cost to make it all worth my time.
    If it all works out I can go to the junkyard and film much more frequently, along with also having my engine turnover be much faster.

    I have to admit there isn't too many guys that know what you do. You know the what vin to look for along with what years are what. It's sounded like me talking lol. I've been selling junkyard swaps for over 6 yrs now. Set them up on a stand and fire them up.(#1 selling point)I flash ecu myself and all that jazz.
    What I didn't know was the rear swap from a van. PRICELESS!!! Keep up the good work. Subscriber foe-lyfe!!!

    I just went to my local junk yards and found tons of GM goodies but I need to rewatch all of your videos before I start pulling stuff. You have so much knowledge! I love the vin info to save time.
    My goal is to build a few LS’s on some stands, selling one or two to pay for the main one for my drift car build

    • @travisblack417
      @travisblack417  Год назад +1

      Selling built engines is tough. You are pretty much guaranteed to not make any of the money back that you additionally put into an engine. If you watch the latest yard video I made I talk at length about being more of a “broker” rather than a “flipper”.

    At the yard today. Seen a L33, lock up but with 243 heads. Mozzied down further and found a LQ4 in a 3500 van. Should I grab the LQ4, swap the 243 heads and find a flex fuel rail and injectors? Or is that just nonsense on my part?

      Flat top pistons that's it. They can be swapped on 5.3 rods. Have same piston pin height and bore

    • @travisblack417
      @travisblack417  Год назад +2

      @@jasonbrown4443 but even then it’s hardly worth it. If you’re swapping pistons around you might as well rebalance. If you’re rebalancing you might as well go with bigger pistons. If you’re going bigger pistons you might as well just start with a 6.0 block. It never ends. Also every single 5.3 after 2007 just comes with flat tops and floating wrist pins. Just get one that already has them. There was a flat top 5.3 iron block sitting at the front of the gate at the yard. I could have bought it for like $150. It still wasn’t even worth it.
