- I released a course for Syntakt! Get here: davemech.live/...
I couldn't attend Superbooth this year (our son can be born any day now!), so I've been reading and watching all the new releases from a distance. This has caused an overflow of GAS synthtoms (padum tss) of course. So I thought I'd focus some extra attention towards the syntakt to see if I can dive deeper into its sound design capabilities to keep my mind from overthinking new possibilities in other gear. This cinematic piece rolled out. Hope you enjoy this one!
Pattern made completely within Syntakt. Post processing used: A small hint of OTO Boum and OTO BAM and a bit of EQ. If anybody is interested in how and why I apply these, let me know in the comments. I might do a video about this.

I finally bit the bullet Dave and purchased your syntakt course, like i said I would....
Looking forward to sinking my teeth into it, thanks❤
One man's Anti-GAS is another man's Mega-GAS... Now I want syntakt.
syntakt is a jack of all trades in the sound design arena and can get things to snap and slap quicker than most.
I love mine. I’ve been buying synths for 20 years and this one stands out. Definitely worth the coin
I'd love to hear more about your post-processing!
Cool. Yeah will make a little video about that sometime. Just the thought process behind or something in stead of focusing on the tools
+1 :)
did you do one? @@Davemech
@@lewytowar6860 not yet. Have been taking a break to focus on my now 3 month old son :). Will be back with new videos next month I recon.
I felt like somewhere in Dune. Great work!
Awesome thanks !
This thing is 7 mins too short! 😁
What a freaking 🔥🔥🔥🔥 production.
Thanks dude 🙏
Yep. Gold.👍
When i hear stuff like this. It gives me confidence to show my work with My Syntakt.
Its more than a Drum Machine Synth ... bcus you can WIDDLE all the sounds / shape them to the most minuscule or marvelous sounds.
It stands out like a Accordion 👀
I pair mine wit a SP404MKII just to sprinkle in vocal samples and EXTRA theatric effects.
its Crazy
Nice Work
Very inspiring
Yeah it is really a very deep sound palette once you dive deeper. It’s an awesome groovebox
Great to hear such a different approach to using the Syntakt. I really like all the techno jams people create with this machine, but I love it even more when people go beyond that and try create something unique with the tools they have. This is a great example 👍
This is an incredible track 🤯❤️ Masterful use of the Syntakt! Bravo!
Thank you !
In Spanish we say JO DER 😮 That’s incredible
estoy de acuerdo
Would love to see the reverb settings on this! It’s perfect!! 🫶
Love it! Great hearing work not based on “4 on the floor”
I would have never guessed that this track was a Syntakt. Good Lord! That was nice. I just found your channel. On this track alone you got a new Sub.
Awesome thank you ❤️ and welcome to the channel :)
Excellent work on the Syntakt!
Damn that sounds Good that drum is Growling💯🎶✌️
Amazing sound design! Sounds mega!!
Am totally mystified how you programmed such movement from what seems like one pattern! 👏
❤️ one pattern indeed !
@@Davemech🤯😆 This is sending me into a rabbit hole of trying to unlock this mystery!
Syntakt is a never ending odyssey through the outer rim of sound space! 🌌
It's the only Elektron box I have and I have no plans of getting any other one!
Never considered the Digitakt ? It pairs nicely with Syntakt.
@@mofateam1 Agree! But for now, no need!
Also love mine paired with the Analog Four.
That is not to say I'm only using the Syntakt, I use it to sequence other gear. Just no Elektron boxes for now. 😊
@@meilstone cool… for a long time I just had the cycles and samples… picked up a mk1 analog four this year and have been enjoying.
Jemig Dave, je mag vaker experimenteren. Dit klinkt vetttttt! En inderdaad, niet echt anti GAS hahaha
Thans man ! Haha 😆
This is huge. Love it.
oh wow man - what a trip, that is awesome
Thank you !
Wow that was so cool !!! Well done sir
Thank you kindly 😊
Great what you're getting out of the machine! And I really think we're looking at the early version of the syntax. There will be a lot of firmware updates in the future.
👽 | Dave Mech l 🎧 coming in with that atmospheric 🔥 👏
Awesome fiddlework
great performance Dave
Duuuude! This is Massive! 🔥🔥🔥
You master the elektrons:)
Brilliant!
Haha! I love the concept of ANTI GAS therapy!
Excellent as usual !
BRUTAL!
yeesssss so good! Early congrats on the baby! :)
good lord, what are you using on that bass note? It's so epic.
Thanks Levi!
It’s actually 3 layers and a fourth added 1/4 times. Each with different machines/settings/modulation and pushed through the FX block’s overdrive. Took quite some fine tuning.
@@Davemech This is what's so great about the syntakt. With 12 tracks, layering is a solid option to get amazing sounds like this...going to check out the course, I feel pretty proficient, but I love getting your take on elektron boxes!
Much needed video during superbooth 😂
Sick
Killer 👍👏👏🎶
Fucking EPIC ! Jaws on floor ... Now, i want to see that hardcore scifi moview where this will be used as soundtrack ...
Thank you ! Lovely comment. Means a lot to me❤️
Dune vibes!
My ears are smiling
It would wonderful if you could explain how you achieve this! Maybe in you're next course! It sounds like a philip glass epic song!
The next part of course is going to cover sound design deeply. But after that I plan on releasing tracks , like this one, including walkthrough videos and the patterns themselves 👍 make sure you’re subscribed to the mailing list to get updates 👍
Someone needs to make a "mech hands" NI module now! 😂
…. well, something is telling me that the AHFX will find you either way . … . but you fight well . . . superbly well
Yeap 😄 thanks Mike 🙏
what do you think? Which machines or things to fiddle with will be integrated into the next OS?
Good question. Tough to say. One thing I do expect is that the mod buttons will be streamlined a bit more to make them more useful.
Wonderful! Was listening in my car and the balance/separation sounds great. Was all that done in the Syntakt? Or is that post? Sounds great.
The separation between sounds is really done on syntakt yeah. It’s recorded to a stereo file in daw through a bit of EQing (a slight broad stroke mid cut and a high shelf boost), and a hint of OTO boum and BAM. Those last two were just a little sparkle on top, nothing too obvious. In the daw I added a low cut at 27hz or so and on small 1.5db cut around 400hz I believe. And a liniter to boost the overal level. But it only limits at the the drop points after the riser for half a second and no more than -3db. That’s about it. :)
G.A.S.
what the… ❤️
Great stuff! Hope your baby doesn't have gas!
Me too Jean-Pierre, me too.
Can I have a question? Because I follow you long time and appreciate your work a lot! As an Elektronhead, why don’t you move into the A4-RYTM-OT direction and stick with the Digi’s? Thanks!
I already have those ;).Overal I just really like the quick workflow of the digis. Octatrack I use on and off as the incredible looper that it is. And the analog 4 is one that I still explore. It’s incredible and the sound design I create with it will find its way into my production and live sets. Also plan on doing a sound pack for it. Cheers !
@@Davemech except Heat, Model:Samples and the older ones, I have all Elektron boxes, Digis, Octa, two Analog and Cycles (your videos helped a lot!) except the Syntakt, and I am hesitating to get one but besides strong GAS, it is indeed a killer techno machine.
Hi, Dave, are you planning a part two of tutorial for Syntakt?
Yea certainly. Have been working on that on and off for th past few months. But have a baby boy of 3 months (plus another 2 year old). So things have been quite wonderfull yet chaotic here. But it’s in development. :)
This is sick!!! I've never gelled with the AR, making drums on the DT is even better IMO Wondering wether a syntakt might be more up my alley :) Im not much into using samples... and the AR analog engines don't do much for me. You have experience with the AR mister Mech? Just wondering how these two compare.
Never really gelled with AR either. I really like to sound design and while AR has the wonderful capability to combine analog engines with samples (this is where it really shines imho), it lacks deeper sound design possibilities for my taste. It’s a combination of lack of resolution on some parameters and having only 1 lfo.
Most of Syntakt’s analog machines are the same as AR. But it has a few extra. And it has 8 digital machines. And 12 tracks that can play simultaneously so you can layer sounds easily etc. And more lfos. And the fx block is awesome. And the workflow is super quick like on DT :)
@@Davemech It also just feels quite cumbersome to work with the AR, at least the sample management. But I have wet dreams about becoming a master of the hybrid setup, where AR could really serve well. Do you have exp with working with Syntakt in a Hybrid environment?
Im very interested how you get that sub that hits right at 0:37. This is a sound in cinematic music that I keep wanting to achieve but can never seem to get.
It’s a low aub kick with a subtle transient. It’s made with the digital BD machine. But the reason it works is mostly because of the contrast between no sub into sub. Loudness into emptiness and a few other things. If you’d hear it on its own without any context it wouldnt be nearly as impactful. Hope that makes sense :)
@@Davemech Cheers Dave. That's interesting. I see what you mean, that delay of the sub gives it that swelling feeling. I love that, I'm going to experiment with it. Thanks!
Hi Dave, I had a quick question. Sorry this is off the topic of the video. But do you use the AH on your mastering channel when recording or does it really depend on specific circumstances when writing music?
Wondering if it matters to place it inside the Syntatk folder in Ableton or on the master channel.
Thanks in advance
It depends a bit on the track I’m working on. But generally it’s on my master insert. Currently I use oto boum for that but that’s a similar approach. Sometimes I create with it on even. Sometimes I use it to add some spice afterwards.
Cheers !
Have you got a Syntakt preset pack yet Dave?
Not yet but started working on one. So will release one this year for sure.
Welp… don’t need analog heat fx …
Stranger Things 1987
Love it. But inside my head this is just the beginning of an awesome suite. Please, don't make me buy the Syntakt ...
Must…Resist…!
@@Davemech The force is strong in Elektron!
I need to stop watching those syntakt Videos - i want one so badly. Have a digitakt and love the Elektron workflow but not a big Fan of working with and organizing Samples.
Tre men dovich
And how is that supposed to be anti-GAS? 🤣😜
I seem to have made a vital error 🤔
Essentially making music is Anti-GAS. During the time you make music you can’t search for new gear.
