Who would believed that David Bowie pass away, but his songs are immortal just like him. I like this song because of it’s lyrics and the seventies sound. Bowie had an unique voice and style which I really loved so much. RIP !
There’s a man back a-ways Who believes at where he is And there’s a girl Up ahead who says she knows And the street overflows With the folk who understand But for the guy who can’t be seen He’s the Shadow Man And the Shadow Man is close at hand Take a turn and see his smile Made of nothing but loneliness Just take a walk and be a friend To the Shadow Man You can call him Joe, you can call him Sam You should call and see who answers For he promises to come running, guided by the truth But the Shadow Man is really you Look in his eyes and see your reflection Look to the stars and see his eyes He’ll show you tomorrow, he’ll show you the sorrows Of what you did today You can call him foe, you can call him friend You should call and see who answers For he knows your eyes are drawn to the road ahead And the Shadow Man is waiting round the bend Oh, the Shadow Man Ohooooo oooo Shadow man, shadow man It’s really you, it’s really you, it’s really you He’s the shadow man Oh yeah Shadow man
Thanks to people outside who have liked my comments referring to David Bowie. He was truly my idol. I loved everything he did and I saw him so many time in concerts, watching and loving all those changes and individual persona. I appreciate and welcome every style of David Bowie. What a star he was! There will no one like him anymore. Rest In Peace !
I was just looking up this song. It was a bonus track on the 2002 Heathen album, and now it's on the posthumous release Toys with two versions. Nice to hear the different versions
The star that burns twice as bright burns half as long - and you, Starman, have burned so very, very brightly. You were the soundtrack to my life, my inspiration, and you gave me the confidence to be myself. Thank you. I miss you more than I know how to say. Rest in Power. Rest in Peace.
Sonia Mota i thought it was recorder beore the HD album...my bad...it was indeed from the ZS sessions..that being said ,i prefer the Toy album version better...ymmv
Wow! I never heard this version of this song. I always assumed it was just for his Toy album. Its such a beautiful song. One my favorites, makes me cry everytime.
David Bowie: The Shadow Man 1971 Rare Outtakes 1971 Studio Outtakes By Past Masters On Gold Disc Released 1989 The sound quality is very good. Most of the songs are “Hunky Dory” outtakes, or for the rumored cancelled album that should have been released between “Hunky Dory” and “Ziggy Stardust”!
Never heard this beautiful song/lyrics! before. How many songs did Bowie write in his entire life, non-releases and demo's as well. Somebody? Thx anyway 🧡
Just about to write that for Tmt890. You beat me by 8 years. I'd have preferred 5 years! Actually I thought David was still the singer but Freddi was going to be a front man, sort of miming to David's voice.
A first listen for me too, this. Like it, but I can see why DB decided not to include it on any album, because it's not really a song, more an improvisation.

you are not alone
Hey!....B, he was human, we all cannot live forever.....
Can you imagine that THIS song is an outtake?lots of singers would kill to write this song
check it out now on the Toy album
Love this version
There’s a man back a-ways
Who believes at where he is
And there’s a girl
Up ahead who says she knows
And the street overflows
With the folk who understand
But for the guy who can’t be seen
He’s the Shadow Man
And the Shadow Man is close at hand
Take a turn and see his smile
Made of nothing but loneliness
Just take a walk and be a friend
To the Shadow Man
You can call him Joe,
you can call him Sam
You should call and see who answers
For he promises to come running,
guided by the truth
But the Shadow Man is really you
Look in his eyes
and see your reflection
Look to the stars and see his eyes
He’ll show you tomorrow,
he’ll show you the sorrows
Of what you did today
You can call him foe,
you can call him friend
You should call and see who answers
For he knows your eyes
are drawn to the road ahead
And the Shadow Man
is waiting round the bend
Oh, the Shadow Man
Ohooooo oooo
Shadow man, shadow man
It’s really you, it’s really you, it’s really you
He’s the shadow man
Oh yeah
Shadow man
Just brilliant!!! His voice, lyric, melody, everything! I'm in tears every time I listen this.
Get a grip its a good song

Bowie was an uber star in the 70's and now he is shining eternally with the stars. God bless him for bringing so much joy to so many people!
Very good. This song should have found its way onto an album.

Love this song. Both this version and the 2001-02, as well. RIP David.
Out of words... the song is a pure piece of a genius songwriting.... And The voice of the man, come on...

Good stuff.

Thx anyway 🧡
Lovely to hear. A bit different version than the one he did for Toy later. My musical hereo since heard in 69 Space Oddity.
It would fit nicely on Hunky Dory. I wish I could hear Ronno on it.
looking at Stars
This, with The Hype, would have been a decent MWStW track. Ronno's guitar would have been perfect for this.
Carl Jung anyone? Or Carlos Castenada? Or Both?
he is Freddi Burretti the singer from Arnold Corns

This song was inspired by a Biff Rose song called The Man
and carl Jung
It fills your heart doesn't it?
Where did you get such a high quality version of this song? I can't find one anywhere!
+Joshua DeGruccio on the single of ´everyone says hi` this song is on too
+Koen Van den Broek I think that's just the album version from 2002. Still good, but not the same. Different Bowie.
+Joshua DeGruccio yes, you are right...I also can´t find this version
@Tmt890 Freddie Buretti :)
where did you get this?
This one's a tad Van Morrison-ish...
Where did you even find this with the same quality as the official single release..
devastating
