I just got this module for my second slot and it’s an interesting beast. I think most people will like it better with the internal jumper taken completely off. It’s not so…polarizing….that way. What taking the jumper off does is it puts the whole module in low-gain mode (default is blue-low gain and red-high gain). High gain mode is super compressed and harmonically intense…very saturated and crunchy. It’s a really cool sound once you tune it in and play with the midcuts. As usual with my experience thus far with Synergy stuff, I find myself having the high knob up pretty high to get that articulation. With this module I like the bass knob up kinda high too, that’s the Diezel sound…low end slamming the front end and it gets really rubbery and Velcro-y
Got the Overdrive special and Solano, love them. I know they will work in the old Egnater and Randal modular preamps. Those were single channel, there's a switch on the Synergy module to switch it to single channel.
I gotta say, that sounds nothing like a Herbert. Im extremely lucky in that I own a Herbert mark 3 and this comes nowhere close to matching it. Now before people say im biased, let me just say that the vh4 module, is actually better than a real vh4, I've had the lucky opportunity to play both and the vh4 module is killer, so I'm surprised this is so far off the mark.
Sounds better in person. This really doesn’t do the module justice. Just got the chance to play one a day ago. Although it’s not a Herbert this is not a good representation of the dynamics of the sound.
@@robertfinch6602 I first learned of them/discovered them thru Adam Jones of Tool. I think he is still using them. The sound on Aenima is awsome. It's so big and huge , I think it's from combining multiple amps to create that unique big sound.
big downer here is that the diezel powersection is missing what makes a huge part of the diezel sound, the syn 50/50 is much too weak, so those modules will not deliver the huge trademark sound, i solved this problem with pairing the syn 2 with a mighty mesa 395, new universe of sound now!! but sold the VH4 module, it sounds just dull to me, waited for the herbert also.
Honestly, It's hard to say if it sounds like a real Herbert. I have the Herbert Mark 3 plugged on a Mesa OS Straight cab but that seems different than this module. I prefer the real thing for now but I think it needs a real Head VS Module test on the same signal chain (even using the power amp section of the Herbert for the module) to be sure.
Just because the tone stack is copied, doesn't make it a Herbert because I'm sure the transformer shapes the sound as well. I'd hope the sound is closer than most other copies though at a much lower price and I'd be ok with that.
Not knowing what an actual Herbert sounds like this thing sounds like a more subdued or streamlined fuzz pedal, which im not a big fan of. Im sure there are many that like that tone but not for me. Their VH4 module did kick ass.
Seems like most of the German amps all kinda sound the same, as in the same basic gain structure just different eq curves. For my tastes it’s just too tight and compressed. I like it a little more open sonically with more room between the notes.

Herbert sounds awesome, I like it 👍🏻👍🏻
sounds pretty dam good👍
Great vid! I've been curious about these. Thanks for putting this video together!
Was waiting on some Cancer Bats riffs
I love it, I am not the only one, you are tweaking the midcut with it off, up is off, haha, down is on, lmao, the silkscreen font is so small!!

So many flavors
he seems not be too impressed with the herbert module, the VH4 was also a downwer for me
Thought the same on this and Michael Nielsen review.. seemed ok but didn’t have either of them raving about it

Half the sound of a Diezel is the magical pixies living in the power amp section.

I've always wanted to try a diezel head, but I've never had the opportunity.
Yeah I know Alter Bridge used Diezel

When did u get another tremonti, that thing is awesome
typo on the 7th section's title. "Playthourgh setup"

Yeah the VH4 is a bit of a dog
I've heard the Synergy modules sound best with other power amps, not the synergy.

which power amp do you use with the synergy modules?
It seems he's using the Syn-5050
@@Orion28296 thx i couldnt see what all was in the green case, lol

I think it’s the IR that he’s using. His playthroughs all sound like that. It probably sounds better in the room through a 4x12.
Fluff needs to try out more german amps.

I have the Diesel VH-4 module. Is the Herbert a higher gain amp than the VH-4?
ooh yess
Sounds like a Randall rg
Honestly I think the preamp pedal is considerably better.
This sounds rubbish. Like a fuzz pedal. No thanks
Kinda muddy..
Yeah Ryan always makes thing muddy sounding
Man what happened to this channel. less than 3 minutes of audio and a 5 and half minute video.
