Synergy is killing it with these modules. But I guess having Steven Fryette, Bruce Egnator, Dave Friedman, Mike Soldano, Joe Morgan, Diezel, and Engl all working together on them helps. Lol.
The Tones. As always your playing is monstrous, and the tones to match. AND I never noticed this brown guitar has a Floyd, keep on rockin in the Floyd world brother
Dear God. I went to pedal board with a rack mount 50/50 tube amp. Then I went MIDI control finally. Now it's this module stuff. This stuff is so killer. But I should build around this new stuff now? Pete- your killing it with the tone and awesome riffs. But I better wrench all I can from my present rig. Damn that sounded good- fat, properly saturated and proud. Mr. Thorn is a badass and gets all the cool toys!
I've said it before but probably not as many times as is justified, but you make the absolute best gear review videos available. I can't tell you how many gear purchase decisions I have made from your videos even though sometimes that decisions may be "hey that's not for me". In today's world where, unless you have an amazing music store in the area which I do not, you can't just walk into a store to try something out. There is no store in a reasonable range to me that carries synergy amps/modules. These types of videos are super important to me so thank you very much for the amazing job you do.
Owning a few Mark series amps, this definitely comes close to the tone. Some of my favorite tones of all time stem from Mark series boogies. Nice demo Pete!
Pete not sure if you realized this but the volume pot for channel 1 also effects the gain of channel 2. So for the heaviest tones you want that channel 1 volume knob cranked. That's why your loop demo at the end sounded kinda wimpy 😉
I still own a mark III only used like a big fender thought. I prefer my plexi tones for dirt. It sounds just like a boogie! Pull me under. Killer job Pete!
Great demo, great playing, and great tone. I’ve always loved the Boogie Mark tones (although recently I’ve been infatuated with the Triple Crown) My experience with Mark amps is not just the sound but also the feel - very dry and percussive in my opinion. Does this capture the feel as well as the sound? Just wondering - peace!
I like how it seems the controls have very little effect on the sound. The volumes, lead drive, and sliders make a difference. The pre EQ knobs, the bright and shift switches, etc, are subtle enough that it borders on being unnecessary.
This reminds me a *lot* of the 50 Caliber Plus head (6L6 version with graphic EQ) that I used to have. It seems like this also has the Mk. IIC+/III/50Cal+ tradeoff where to get the Metallica-approved vicious dirty tone requires you to compromise on the clean tone a bit.
Well …I used to spend 1000s chasing gear tones….and then 3 days ago I came upon this kid Max Ostro, playing his squire through his lil spark, and crushing Malmsteen and Racer X covers like in his sleep…I put my Suhr in its case and in the closet and then unplugged the axefx3 out from the wall ,turned the light off in mini studio and locked the door behind me….😓
We have all been there. I am there, too. But here is the thing: (and I get this from Steve Lukather, mainly): Great, your 10 and you're playing Paganini with one hand. How takes did that require? Can you do that Live, under pressure? Can you write anything? Are you prepared to fly 8 hrs a day and then do that on 2 hrs sleep? Consider all of that.
I liked it set where I had it because when I played clean, it was still full, but not getting into overdrive. Just like on those amps it’s a fine line with the shared controls and switching channels
Pete, killer as always, on the gear, it has lots of possibilities and lots of punch and clean, I really would like to see this product made full rack sized, I have Big hands and nurve damage hands, I couldn't get My big hands to get anything done!! Sorry but got 2 b real, besides the Company has U test products 4 a reason and I liked the jam and the Jackson to, God Bless our Veterans, Semper Fi - USMC & all vets Love U all
I think they are pretty locked into the format, Because the modules have to slip in to the chassis “just so” and it would be a major engineering rethink, and wouldn’t make much sense for many players because I think the whole thing is being able to slip two of the modules in a one rack space chassis, giving you four channels. Anyways yes the pots/switches are small. But with the trend being towards portability ease-of-use these days etc. I wouldn’t see it getting bigger realistically
@@PeteThorn Yes your right Pete, I'm just so out of the know!?, I have been out of playing and recording, I wanted 2 ask U what software does the best job 4 the money?, I bought a Tascam 8tr. Excellent demo, Pete! How come you always manage to get the best tone out of amps while others end up dialing them to the point where everything sounds similar?
You could probably tweak it the way you like though. Keep in mind I’m just more of a Marshall tone guy, As far as where I come from. And that EQ is really powerful. A subtle tweak this way or that on the sliders and you’ve got quite different results
Check out Rabea Massad’s review of this. His take is entirely different, and tones are alternate to this- it showcases, via these two reviews, how versatile this module is
@@jonathanwelch809 I’m thinking it can do both quite easily. Especially if it’s modeled after the Mesa 2c+. Iconic for scooped metal tones from Metallica to Dream Theater

Hey, great video! I think I would have liked to see you twiddle the EQ with the graphic off first, since it really seems like the graphic overpowers the EQ section, other than the treble, those other EQ controls didn't seem to do a whole lot, but I bet with the graphic EQ turned off they'd have more of an effect.
That's how the mark series works. The high mid and low are before gain, use it to shape the feel of the tone. The graphic eq is your traditional post gain eq section.
Pete...you are brilliant as always. These preamps sound very cool but because of the housing seem impractical for a large part of the guitar market. Does synergy or any one else make a practical gigging solution for guitarists who don't take any other rack gear to shows?
Pete, How do you program your drums so well? How long does it take you to program drums for your typical song of the equipment you're reviewing? I'm always trying to better myself at programming drums.
this - a great question - its why i've never actually written a full, complete song in all my years, and man Pete just cranks em out day after day, a pro's pro!
I use superior drummer 3 quite a bit And I have a whole bunch of the expansion packs that have great grooves included. Makes putting a song together a breeze
Hey, finally a Mark IIC+ sound I don't have to pay $3k for. Ugh, so tired of Mesa lore and cork-sniffer bs, finally someone gives us a module where we can write off Mesa entirely, lol. I mean, ok, HX Stomp and Axe-FX all day long for the most part, but I'll probably buy this module and use it with a tube power amp instead of giving Mesa my money :D
did they get Randall to work on it? i think the credibility of the other modules has had a lot to do with direct collabs b/w Synergy and peter diezel, mike soldano, steve fryette etc
Nice run through Pete thanks for taking the time with this. I still think the Salvation Markus module nails the Mark tones more accurately than this new outing.
The face says it all. I go by that when watching a review. If the face goes constipated and orgasmic....then you know you got a winner of a product. Just ordered mine. I knew your review would be good. I've seen too many reviews of this module with the bass knob too high. The tone knobs are pregain, they affect the gain stage like a Cathode Bypass cap. Low bass and push the treble is the magic of Boogies.
Actually i was. Thanks for noticing! I went to the eye doctor earlier that day and they put some drops in that really took it out of me, I think maybe I was allergic to them. Itchy weepy painful all day. I’m not kidding. Anyways I did my best :)
Have you perchance tried the IICP to get King's X type tones? The way most people dial in the real deal Mark 2s (bass cut for tightness, mids cranked for saturation, GEQ set to bring the bottom and sparkle back in) always reminded me of how Ty Tabor would set his Lab amps back in the day.
Synergy is killing it with these modules. But I guess having Steven Fryette, Bruce Egnator, Dave Friedman, Mike Soldano, Joe Morgan, Diezel, and Engl all working together on them helps. Lol.
