So good. I got the 50w head and it screams. I am loving the Engl Powerball and Friedman BB/BE modules. So much range in those modules from cleans to high gain madness. I think I have about 8 modules so far. That would cost me around $30,000 to get the full amps and take up a ton of space. But the Synergy modules cost me a total of $3k and all fit in a small case. Game changer.

I have a Synergy rack along with a bunch of modules, and after trying it and A/B testing with different types of power amps - each of which does affect the tone significantly - I figured the option I like best is connecting it to the effects loop of my ENGL Savage II. It's the best overall tone I've gotten from all the alternatives I've tried. It does darken the tone a bit compared to a "clean" power amp, but this is easily compensated by tweaking the treble on the Synergy modules, and the Presence knobs on the Savage do work wonderfully on the final tone as well.

Those massive power transformers and KT88s/6550s in that ENGL Savage ii are working their magic. I have a similar setup for my Kemper and it sounds amazing.

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise. Dig the quote behind ya. I am a bit disappointed you didn't get the IICP module. What really fascinates me about this whole thing, is being able to have like 6-9 different channels, possibly more depending on the amp that one would 4 cable into. Mark VII? Holy BeJeebus Batman....Some of these high gain modules are 3 cahnnel, or footswitchable.

oh yeah, running through the Freyette power station, micing a cab, but then you can take a direct signal from the Syn 2 into your DAW, copy and paste that as many times as you want, throw some IRs on those channels and never leave your basement again

@Taylor Danley WARNING, I may be a bit long winded.
I’m HEAVILY considering getting one of these for both myself and my other guitarist in my band to cut down on the amount of heavy stuff we have to bring to gigs, as we’re currently in the process of building an IEM system. Just for the sake of asking (if you’ve done this for each of these), how do you switch from clean to dirty channels? Would I have to buy two separate modules if I want one to use for a dedicated clean channel (a few of our songs contain channel switching and use of reverb and delay pedals)? Is there a separate footswitch that I’d have to buy? I currently have my eye on the 6505 module, but I’d like one to use for strictly clean stuff as well. We have pedalboards in front of us all the time, and I figured investing in these would be a great start to downsizing our rigs. Again, sorry if I was a bit long winded, but I’m very excited and nervous about these. I don’t want to potentially waste a crap ton of money for something that won’t work for the intention I have for it.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hey dude, no worries.
Every module is different, some are two channels like a clean and gain channel, some just have two channels that are the same with independent controls.
As far as the foot switching, if you go analog I think you can only cycle through the channels, but if you go midi then you can program which channel you want to go to, but don’t take my word for it I haven’t really tested it.
      Hope that helps.

I love my Syn-2! The modular system is such a great idea. I used mine with a Marshall 9005 tube power amp at first, but I sold the Marshall and got a MosValve MV-942 just like Cantrell used in the Dirt days with his Bogner Fish preamp. Now I run the Syn-2 with my Friedman JEL-20 head for maximum options. If I want wet/dry/wet I switch back to the MosValve and use a Suhr Iso Box to feed three 2x12 cabs. W/D/W sounds like a fucking planet falling on someone. So huge. Great video!

Basically, when I'm mixing demos, I don't want to tweak things too much because I'm trying to give a good representation of the raw audio of whatever I'm demoing. After watching loads of comparison videos, I'm satisfied they are very, VERY close to the originals. At the same time, I'm not necessarily expecting them to be EXACTLY the same. I mean, they sound awesome and if someone wants to split hairs, they can always buy the originals, right?
I've run mine thru the loop of several amps as well as direct out into IRs and the power amp sim inside TwoNotes software and its a killer recording setup.

What's with the Stank Face in the Thumbnail!?! I thought you were about to God-Tier SHIT all over my Beloved SYNERGY System! Ha!
I have a Freedman BEBB 4 cables into my 1996 Peavey 5150 2x12. It basically turns it into a 4 channel amp. And if you go ahead and put an overdrive in front of the Synergy and a good Chorus in the loop, you got the face ripping sound right there.
I've had a couple others. The Pitbull was my favorite but just not my sound if that makes any sense.
VH4 and the Savage are on my radar. I've had mine for a little while now and it's a complete and utter game changer. It does everything right!
And if I'm understanding Dave Friedman properly, Stevie Fryette designs all of the preamps. They're definitely 100% copies of the original preamps. Just put together by Stevie to fit on that little ass board.
    Amazing stuff.

Peavey 6505 included. Synergy +129$ in Europe 139€. For God shake!! I rather have my real peavey head. Don't you agree?

I agree. If Synergy was smart they would make the items that hold the modules way less expensive, then more peeps would buy the "razor" in the razor blade business model and spend more on the modules or "blades". Kinda surprised they havent figured that one out. I havent done it due to the $1,000+ entry point for an empty 2 space rack item (razor), not including any modules "blades". I get it, its less expensive than a tube amp, but I dont buy tube amps anymore, it just doesnt make sense when Helix, Axe FX, Quad Cortex among several other modelers or plugins get you 95%-98% of the way there without a $3k price for each amp. Guess I will keep my eye on the used market or just skip it.
