What is your favorite pick-n-mix candy? Let us know!
Black salty licorice.
Fizzy Bubblegum Bottles!
Plopp or Center
Those peach candies you had and Reisen chocolate coce bottles is good to.
And Salty liqorice and Geisha and ....I could go on and on .
Every Swede watching this - "Give us Djungelvrål!"
Nope, not me 😅 Klarar inte av lakrits 🙈
Nä, fy fan..!
Älskar djungelvrål 🤘
Dom kan behålla skiten...
De har du rätt i 😂😋!!!
0:49 - Daim is a classic. The Mint "Limited Edition" is a decent variation, but the original is honestly way better. (Pronounced Die-m, btw)
3:17 - Yes, "pulver" is Swedish for powder
5:47 - OLW is the brand. In Swedish "W" and "V" is pronounced the same way which makes Swedes careless with them leading to the brand being referred to as OLV (even by themselves in ads).
9:30 - The peach candy is actually Danish, made by Haribo
11:00 - "Äpple" is unsurprisingly "apple" (pronounced ep-leh) and "sur" means "sour".
11:50 - Malaco is the brand name.
12:47 - The Nöt-Crème cookie-dough is an variation on a classic. The base version is a hazelnut-based pastry filling which the manufacturer figured was the tastiest part of the pastry and began selling separately. Typically eaten like you did (or possibly inoring the hand and putting it directly in your mouth).
15:36 - Yup, the Marabou storch is the base for the brand name.
16:39 - At least Jennie has a thing for cola :) Calippo is originally a type of cola-flavored icicle which was developed into tiny cola-shaped ice balls and this is the non-frozen version of this. he icicle is superior.
17:53 - That is technically not a piece of candy, but more a type of pastry, typically eaten together with a cup of coffee.
19:37 - "Engelsk" is Swdish for "English" as this is a (vaguely) English type of candy. The licorice version of Rollo is superior.
20:13 - Not a guitar, not a key. It's supposed to be a pacifier. Made by Malaco btw.
20:49 - Piggelin is another icicle-turned-into-candy. Not very successfully tbh.
21:16 - The regular version was yellow and taste of banana which makes the shape understandable. I've actually never thought the sour version looks like a finger before, but it really does. :)
21:51 - Yeah, you're correct. "Vanilj" means "vanilla". A pretty uninspired fudge really.
22:52 - Swedish "punch" is a form of alcohol, but not at all like American punch. It's an arrak-based licor with about 30% sugar and typically 50-proof. An aquired taste.
24:30 - Geisha is made by Fazer, the Finnish brand who made the chocolate in one of the Sweetish videos.
25:12 - Gianduiotto is a chocolate from the Pieddmont region in northern Italy and they are typically shaped like tiny ingots. "Nocciola" is simply Italian for "hazelnut".
Calle, thank you so much for taking the time to explain each item we tried and even give us some history on them. We definitely would not have thought the “key” was a pacifier!
@@FromtheHobbitHole :)
@ yes Calle. I am really impressed with the amount of WORK you put into doing this, as well as the time-slots... well done (...but you are wrong about Rollo licorice. It taste khgbhygjyuhz).😆
Punsch (sometimes spelled Punch) is not the same as what you call punch in the US. It's an old timey, very sweet type of liqueur. It's based on Arrak which is a side product from cane sugar refining. Arrak is also the stuff that gives the flavor to rum. In fact, punsch and rum have a lot of similarities. Punsch was very popular in Sweden at the end of the 19th century. Nowadays though, it's mostly drunk by university students.
I think about 40% of the yearly consumption of punsch is Edward Blom.
And a long time ago but only for a short period salty punsch was popular, normally it’s very sweet.
Here’s a recipe for homemade delicato balls.
Ingdredienser:
1/4 lb or 1 stick unsalted butter (room temperature)
2 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract or 1 tbsp vanilla sugar
1 tbsp strong coffee (cold)
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
It’s nearly as we Swedes do it
It's supposed to be 2 tbsp cold coffee (Swedish coffee, so make it STRONG).
Thanks for the recipe! We will have to try making them for ourselves.
I don't like coffee so i always replace that with O'boy (chocolate milk)
@@Josefsson9013 Well, the coffee is there mostly to enhance the chocolate flavour and also to balance the sweetness. However, you could add some Amaretto syrup (available in most tea/coffee shops). It makes them taste slightly of almonds, and that is freaking amazing!
@@FromtheHobbitHole
The delicato also has some more "aroma" flavors, like "mocka", don't know the English word.. Here is a good website that has some info about different foods and stuff :)
www.swedishfood.com/swedish-food-recipes-desserts/216-chocolate-balls
"Glass" in Swedish is ice-cream, so they probably meant you can use the nötkräm as a topping!
Triumferande has a flavor of hazelnut (vanilla base + I believe finely ground hazelnut) with streaks of a darker version of the cream - verrrrry nice.
Delicato + cup of coffee = fika! 🇸🇪
The best fika :D And yeah its a non baked cokiee :D
@@pajen85 as the Mandalorian says, This is the way.... :D
Where is the salty licorice?!? Djungelvrål ot Tyrkisk Peppar!?!
For once, it wasn't there.
Surprising to not have it, isn’t it?
Just found your channel, really entertaining and it's great to see a channel that try stuff without being loud and obnoxious=) You got yourself a new sub!
Thanks for subbing! We like being ourselves so what you see is just us...no fake overreactions.
The tobacco product that "hockeypulver" imitates is a thing called snus that is very popular over here (in Sweden).
In the 70's and half way into the 80's the product was actually marketed as Hockeysnus. But somewhere around there the use of tobacco started falling out of fashion, and they renamed it.
@@GAIS414
And before that it had a different, more racist, name.
@@NikStarow Interesting. I've never heard of it. Where did you get that information from?
@@GAIS414
Värmland, what can i say.
Maybe a local brand, but it disappeared late 70's.
@@NikStarow I still don't know what name or brand you are referring to. But your comment implies, that the makers named the product with the intent to degrade or harm a selection of people. I have a hard time believing that would be the case. What I think you really mean is, the name might be considered racist today in 2020? Correct me if I'm wrong.
The "hockey pulver" is - just like you say - a candy version of a tobacco product - namely the swedish "snus" - which is really a version of your chewing tobacco - but stuffed under the upper lip rather than the under. The product was sold as "hockey snus" and was considered a healthier alternative for youths in the 80's than the tobacco variety. :-) Snus (the tobacco variety) was very popular with swedish hockey players in the 80's. The "hockey snus" was later named "hockey pulver" from swedish law - that prohibited candy manufacturers to emulate tobacco products, such as cigarettes from chocolate or pipes from licorice - once very popular candies in Sweden.
Anyways - I really love your videos on swedish candies and snacks and sodas! Keep up the good work.
Punsch is a typical Swedish alcoholic beverage. Info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punsch
20:17 In Sweden we call those "Sura Nappar". If you translate straight over to english it would be something like "Sour Pacifiers".
OG Daim is soooooo good, I'm from Finland and I prefer Finnish chocolate but the Daim bar kicks Finnish chocolates butt.
Ok, i know she sent her favourites but sending swedish candy abroad without including Djungelvrål is kind of a waste of postage. 😅
Punch is an arrack flavoured spirit that is traditionally served hot with pea soup (with yellow peas and mustard) on thursdays.
Piggelin and Calippo are from the begin popsicles they now have turned into candy. Piggelin is a tutti frutti flavour
No piggelin is pear.
@@SecretLars No it's tutti frutti, google Piggelin :)
@@Lifunia no amount of searching and information is going to change my mind on this. Piggelin is pear flavored.
@@SecretLars haha its still Tutti Frutti even what you say and your tastebuds say :)
@@SecretLars päronsplitt är päron din nöt
OLW is short for Old London Wasa. the name was shortened in the 70s.
Youre eating the Nöt Creme cookie dough correctly. Straight from the bag.Yes the Punch cremes are like the Punch that you drink.
It's not the same punsch though. What they're talking about is what we would call "Bål" in swedish.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punsch
Thanks for letting us know that we at the cookie dough correctly and what the punch is supposed to be.
@@FromtheHobbitHole I think that the punsch pokal in the video is old, the "punsch" should be yellow and more "loose" like floating like siryp-ish
It may have turned solid on its trip over to us? 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♀️
Glass is a swedish word for ice cream. But if it is with only one s (Swe: Glas) then it is glass (eng).
Delicato ball, is so good with a cup of coffee
They started selling big boxes of them at ÖoB a while ago. I'm doomed...
@@Hin_Håle time for me to go to ÖoB then ^^ its something about them thats damn addictive xD
Marabou is pronounced like when you say 'Boo' to scare someone. Mara-Boo.
Edit:
And the candy at 25:16 sounds like it's italian. Gianduiotto Nocciola, and I'm pretty sure it's a praline.
Thanks for helping me out with properly saying Marabou!
The punch- candy were old. It have a liquid inside naturally.
Delicato boll, Its one famos things in Swedens Fika, for cup of tea or coffee, its a mocca, chocolate, oats and cocos ball.. Ita also goes of name chocolate ball, and its non baked, many do them self. There is video on youtube at english, about Choklad bollar.. If you wana do them 👏
Bulle med bulle...
The Geisha is from the Finnish Karl Fazer company
Thanks for letting us know!
The delicatoboll is basicly a version of the classic Swedish chocolate ball (chokladboll). Basicly u just mix oats, softened butter, cocoa powder, and then either add coffee or some kind of dessert liquor for flavor then make them into balls and coat with coconut flakes and chill them. A true classic that u can find in any Swedish coffee shop.
Daim used to be Dajm and sold in the US under the name Skor that means shoes in Swedish. 🤯😂
You know...we kind of remember the brand Skor.
Daim is almond-flavored knäck, which apparently translates to butterscotch or Christmas butterscotch. Definitely a good one, wrapped in milk chocolate. Don't think I've tried mint yet, but you should try to get your hands on an original flavor one.
put the cheese doodles and cheese balls in a bowl and let it sit out room temperature for 4-5 days. you will thank me later =) its soooooooo good
hockey pulver is liquorice powder that is often called "snus for kids" the flavor sent here was most likely because they know not many outside scandinavia like liquorice
Our family has started doing taste test Sundays where when we see something unusual or different we try it. Sometimes we invite family and friends to join in. Last week my daughters bestie joined us. I made hot tea for me and the girl to drink during the testing. It helped so much especially during the sweet section. Thanks for the ideas. Love your videos.
As a swede I always imagned ostbågar to be the equivalent to your cheetos. But since neither of you mention it I assume that's not right.
The normal Diam bar is a kind of almondy caramel, really nice. They were called Dime bars in UK,I thought they were American ,but I checked and they are Swedish, I never knew that lol
Yes, and the original name had the Swedish spelling: Dajm
Why is it so exciting when foreigners try candy from "your" country. :D I feel like we have really really good candy and such here in sweden, glad to see others enjoy it aswell!
It is quite an interesting fascination, that’s for sure! You guys do have really good quality stuff in Sweden.
That Punchpokal was stale the chocolate is not suppose to have that white hue and the filling should be runny.
where is the djungelvrål?
Glad I found this channel, you guys seem to be such warm and friendly people 😊 love from sweden
We are glad you found it too! 😊💚💛
Not only that, they also seem to be genuinely interested in the food items/candy they try. 🙂
I would like to have the Delicato ball with some cup of coffee or tea instead of as a snack, the guitar or key will be a pacifier
So some info about some of the things.
the calippo and piggelin candies are both based on ice pops popular in sweden, calippo is cola like you figured out but piggelin is like "Tutti frutti"-taste like blended fruit taste, while i get more like pear and slight lemon taste.
The daim is toffee i guess but from what i recall toffee is a little soft while daim is hard toffee or like i think its also called butterscotch in english, its says "crunchy almond caramel" on wikipedia so something like that yeah i think the big difference is how long you cook it and the heat you have.
hockeypulver like many have said it's a candy tobacco "toy" thing, based on "snus" i think the original flavor is salty licorice.
There are also like a sour type, pretty sure they have more flavor now though.
The cream thing is a flavor i haven't seen but the original is hazelnut cream, think like nutella but IMO better.
The delicatoboll is a specific brand of a classic dessert(delicato), its like you said a no bake thing.
It's made usually with chocolate powder and coffe among other things in it, it usually has coconut or pearl sugar on top.
It's usually called "chocolate balls" nowadays.... they used to be called "N-word balls"...... yeah.
Really quite easy to make your own.
The guitar/key is a pacifier.
Sorry for the long comment and i do hope this is somewhat fun info to know, good video though.
The pick mix looked like what kids in Sweden get at Halloween lol... the 'cola key' looks like a sour soother that we have.
Its supposed to resemble a pacifier.
As a Swede I must say that is really strange pick of candy. Most of that I have not tasted.
Oh really? These were favorites of the lady who sent them to us.
If I remember it right OLW started when Sweden started to produce its own cheese doodles. The owner of Wasa company found the cheese doodles in Old London in Boston. So he stated a company and named it OLW. As written down below it stands for Old London Wasa. The ceese doodles is great tohether with red wine.
Thanks for the little history lesson on OLW!
Almost, it was a collaboration between Swedish Wasabröd and US Borden Foods and the name of Borden Foods factory in New York was "Old London" so they called their joint company Old London Wasa and then shortened it in 1975 to just OLW.
The middle part of Daim is crunchy almond toffee.
Oh dear phrasing ^^’ ”What do I do with it, just lick it or put the whole thing in my mouth?” XD
😅😅
it's not a key, its a pacifier. delicato is a refined version of our choklad boll, (rolled oats, butter, cacao powder, sugar and coffee, rolled in coconut shavings, or pearled sugar, just google "chokladbollar" and there's a thousand recipies tho in metric..) our punch is made from arrack and it's an alcoholic drink.. and yes, cola flavour is quite popular over here..
Could you make an 'opposite' taste video where you taste US sweets for us who live outside of America. For ex different Hersey bars, Reesc (or whatever it is called) etc. That would be really fun...
That’s an interesting concept! “Americans reviewing American candy”
I believe your fan enjoys the cola flavour, because that was pretty much all the cola-candies that exist.
Haha you two are great! I love how you get all sugar high after a while and speak all fast and so on. Keep it up! Love from Sweden!
😂 you noticed that?? 😜 Thanks! 😊
aww she got you the mint daim :/ the regular is a much better representation of it. also i never understood why pick n mix never got big in the states, its such a good concept
Some candy stores in the States have their own version of pick and mix. Like the M&M store in NYC has a giant wall of all their colors and you can choose which colors you want. Or, a candy store not too far from us has a wall of all the old American classic candies that you can pick out by piece and then pay by weight but they are all wrapped candies. So we have a similar concept but don’t execute it the exact same way.
I am suprised she did not sended you "Dammsugare" (Vacuumcleaner) its the most iconic swedish cookie by far. Flavoured with swedish arrak punch. Eigher you love it or hate it. I tend to be in the first catagory
Mazariner!!!!
@@Johnnybanarna dom är lite överrelamerade, är dom inte? Skojar bara!
Maybe that will be sent to us in the future 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♀️
Hell yaaa😛
Your video was just recommended here in Sweden. :)
That’s awesome! 😁
There is a student run café at the university I go to in Sweden. Most breaks between lectures we go and buy "kaffe och klägg" which is basically coffee with a chosen biscuit or snack, delicato balls are a very popular choice :)
Nice!
And punch is alcoholcandy.. 😃
The guitar/key is supposed to be a pacifier...
I’ll send more soon, i love coca cola,😍
next time i will send more
(Små godis!! 🍬 🍭 🍫
There are atleast 30-50 different candy mix to choose from 🍭😛
😍😍😍
That’s a lot! 😲 Thanks for sending us all that you did already. No need to rush at sending us more as we still have a few more boxes to get through for future videos 😉
Good😍😍
You should definitely send some salty stuff as well 😂
Oh you need to try original Daim it's the best!! Almond croquant is what's in it. Pulveri is powder.
I also started laughing when I saw the dips in the bowl 🤣 I've been waiting for this!
OH MY GOODNESS I can't wait for part too!!
Geisha is Fazer and it's Finnish.
Leo likes the cola candy.
Geisha is hazelnut nougat filled milk chocolates.
Yes Hockey Pulver is supposed to resemble a tobacco that is popular in Sweden called Snus which is a tobacco you put under your lip and let it be there for a while.
Hockey Pulver can come in sour and licorice as well and you can pour it in your hand and eat or wet your finger and dab or how I always did as a kid I took a lollipop sucked on it and rolled it in the powder.
i would recommend that you would have used salted chips for the dips instead of flavored chips like you had here. Both Calippo and piggelin are originally an ice cream but they have made candy forms of them and quite a few other icecreams. The thing you thought was a guitar or a key is a pacifier.
I have never seen someone above the age of 10 eat "hockey pulver"
Well now you can say that you have! 😆
Oh my. The fact that my fellow swede did send you the dip. Im ecstatic!! Thats the best thing of all the gooodies you got there 😍
OMG Hockey Pulver!? Just seeing that brought me back 25 years.
The delicato chocolate ball goes GREAT with coffe sin e it's mocha flavored.
if you eat a "punch pokal" and breath in a breathalyzer, in some cases people have tested over the allowed BAC for driving (in Sweden 0.2). they needed to rinse there mouth with water and retry. ( sorry for crappy English )
Your English was just fine! That’s a crazy fact!! 😱
@@FromtheHobbitHole just to make things clear they don't make you drunk ;) they just leave som residues. so when you exhale the the breathalyzer picks up alcohol in your breath. There are 2% (arrak) in them.
Thanks for clarifying!
Growing up we called Rollos ”plombdragare” which roughly translates to filling extractor due to how chewy they are.
20:51 We have a tutti Frutti Popsicle called Piggelin(many people thinks its pear but it's actually tutti frutti). It has been for very long time. I'm 19, turning 20 this month and Piggelin has probably been longer than my 20 years! Few years ago, a Swedish candy brand turned Piggelin into those hard candies! I love those Piggelin Hard Candies!
That delicato, soft chocolate ball is REALLY easy to make yourselves, and you can roll them in whatever you'd like (like coconut, like the one you got here, or sprinkles, sugar or just leave them plain).
It's known to be something everyone can make, and the first recipe every Swedish child learns to make.
www.swedishfood.com/swedish-food-recipes-desserts/216-chocolate-balls
the delicato is like a small version of the original. its normal on the "swedish fika" cheap style
Don´t you make Chokolate balls in America? You should make some and try it. It´s super fast and easy and something most Swedes do every now and then. And it is kind of similar to the Delicato ball.
Here is a recipe in English: hejsweden.com/en/swedish-chocolate-balls-recipe-chokladbollar/
Also, make some Kanelbullar. That´s a classic!
13:01 I love Nutcream(Nötkräm but the package says Nötcréme. The correct Swedish word is Nötkräm but I guess they wanted to make it a funnier so they chosed Nötcréme! Only my guess though! Idk the real history behind the name!)
Daim chocolate is VERY popular in sweden, and one of my favorites, this with mint taste is a rather new edition, its not dajm original, but I like both...Dajm and coco,+ the delicato ball,is my favorites here...
Piggelin is actually a pear-flavored popsicle, on an ice cream stick, that was turned into a small, hard candy - It’s a classic amongst many children, even grownups too. There’s another version of it made as well, called ’Päron Split’, translating to ‘Split Pear’, with a center of vanilla ice cream, and a thin outer layer of Piggelin🙂
Hockeypulver was a big thing growing up. Always trying to copy grownups who ”snusade”. Lick one finger, dip and then lay it under the top lip. Snus is almost like chewing-tobacco.
OLW is the brand. Stands for, oddly enough, Old London Wasa.
Vanilj means vanilla 😊❤🇸🇪
Delicatobollar should be eaten cold according to me. There is two camps with this in Sweden. The chocolate flavour becomes softer. and lighter when it's cold. A cold one is one of my favourite sweets. But when it's room temperatured I'm not that fond of it all. Weird thing.
"nöt creme" that's basically a hazelnut, cocoa and sugar paste, it's flipping amazing on toast btw :) now that was a cookie dough variant so flavor won't quite be the same.
Delicatoboll is a famous swedish bakery which had a "racist" name back in the days which caused alot of drama around this product, heres a swedish movie from the 90's that made fun of it ruclips.net/video/h0JolqmmMk0/видео.html
How do you stay so slim, eating all that candy? It's unfair 😄...and where's the swedish Djungelvrål?
Would've been funny if they got to taste the original Hockeypulver lol kindaaa different taste w the ammonium chloride n
licorice hahah
It not a key its a pacifier =) and calippo and piggelin are actually ice poppsicles that they did candy of.
4:03 I thought you were going to say "Blue crystal meth", yikes, realized I've seen too much Breaking Bad in my days xD
i don`t like when they send, "Limited edition" stuff on chocolates i dunno why everyone does that to all youtube reviewers, you should taste the originals, no wierd flankers as "daim mint" iv never even heard of that one.
it is
butterscotch sort of between the dajm ;)
Interesting that they had piggelin as candy,in sweden we mostly know this as a very belowed icecream classic...a good ice cream...
The Delicatoboll is exactly what you say, a no-bake cookie. Very popular at Swedish fika!
3:06 I do not like that but know that many have clubs and dip in
20:50 Pigelin comes from the ice cream we have. but in the candy it is more sour so good :)
20:15 it’s supposed to look like a dummy/PAC/pacifier(napp in Swedish)
The original Daim with Only chocolate is the best this limited edition is Only the testing always New combination always coming out New one all the time
Pulver=powder
Hockeypulver was a favourite as a kid but the licorice flavour
here are some recipes for swedish food, desserts, drinks and alot mor. the recipes are in english www.swedishfood.com/swedish-food-recipes-desserts/216-chocolate-balls
You're not suppossed to bite the piggelin ball. You should suck on it. Also the taste is Tutti Frutti! :)
The one that looks like a key (the sour cola one) is actually supposed to look like a baby's pacifier. 😄
I only watched like 2 videos, i already love your channel. cheers from Sweden.
6:04 I love ostbågar(cheese doodles)! But I Am allergic to milk!
We say chips too :) here in Sweden
Good to know! We got so used to saying crisps for our viewers in the UK that we never thought to call them chips for you guys. 😅
The punch one is punch as in the alcohol spirit not fruit punch. The hockey pulver is imitating the tobacco product "snus" (kinda like dip, in the states)
Ohhh...that makes sense about the punch!
The reason for the ice cubes on the calippo is because it is origionally a ice popsticle that they turned into a candy.
I am a swede and I heve never seen some of these.
Really? How interesting…
OLW is the name of the brand. I found this on wikipedia about (Old London Wasa).
OLW (Old London Wasa) is a brand, formerly a Swedish company, that markets snacks such as potato chips, cheesecakes, peanuts, and various types of dipping powder. OLW was founded in 1967 by Wasabröd and has been owned since 2005 by Norwegian Orkla. Since 2014, OLW has been part of Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Sverige AB.
History
OLW was formed through a collaboration between Wasabröd and the American chip manufacturer Borden Foods in 1967. The name "OLW" is an abbreviation for Old London Wasa when Borden's factory in New York was called Old London. In 1975 the name was abandoned and the company was called from that year only "OLW". [1] The company began manufacturing "cheez doodles" (cheese bows) and later potato chips.
Thanks for sharing this info with us!
19:38 I love Rollo! Rollo is actually a English/British candy!
