Hi Guys,
I've been meaning to make this video for a long time. I show how to remove a Rolex bracelet from various Rolex watches (Rolex Submariner 14060m, Rolex Explorer 14270 and Rolex Submariner Date 16610). I also show how to fit a leather strap to a Rolex watch and how to fit a nato strap to a Rolex watch.

I have a question - I have a smooth bezel datejust 41 (wimbledon dial) and I’m trying to find a good Nato strap for it.. the Lug width is 21mm for it.. so should I go for 20mm one from Bark and Jack website? Or will it just not fit??

Barton Watch Bands out of Austin, TX has curved spring pins that work great for thicker natos. I know a lot of folks are picky about non Rolex spring pins, but I’ve used them nearly exclusively on my 16610LN.

Good video! I must have changed straps 100s of times, but I picked up a couple of tips.
Think you might have missed an important detail for anyone new... Have spare spring bars! A loaded spring bar can fly for miles and find the smallest nooks and crannies!
It took me half an hour to do what you do in 20 seconds but it was worth it, I can now put a NATO strap on my air king!
A really simple way to remember two piece strap fitting is Buckle at 12 0'clock. That's what I do anyway.

Hey @barandjack, I have an explorer 1997 very similar to yours (amazing watch), but I've noticed a huge gap between the watch case and the watch bracelet with the hollow-end links. Two questions: 1) Is that normal? do you see something similar on yours? and 2) If Yes, is there anything I can do to reduce that gap?

This is a really cool how-to video Adrian. I love natos and changing the straps on my watches. One thing I would encourage people to try is the Over-Under technique; it gets rid of one layer of the strap making the watch thinner, and allows you to adjust the strap ~ 1/2 hole. Thank you for another excellent video :)

Perhaps a vid on polishing and cleaning. I’ve used a Brillo pad to gentle remove marks from a sub bracelet. Always going in one direction.

Ah, mate thank you so much for this. I’ve been trying to take a bracelet off a pelagos for 1.5 hours. In this time I: broke the tool, scratched an end link, stabbed myself and lost it. Watched a bunch of videos but nobody explains which way to pull. Your video helped me do it in a few seconds 😅🎉 I also have the very same ruler, it worked well too. Cheers!

Great video Adrian. Some great tips and info. Thank you. I sometimes fit straps and bracelets the reverse way round as the watch falls to view better, maybe just my wrist. Just going to your store to buy the tool. Right tool ordered.
I know you aren't a fan of Bremont (overpriced in your opinion) but the hardened case material is very hard to scratch. No scratches on mine anywhere in spite of numerous strap/bracelets changes and the spring bars removal and refitting. But your video has shown much better tidier ways. Thank you.

You forgot the step where you slip with the spring bar tool and then get that *ah shit* feeling for a couple of weeks until you get over it 😅😅
That's the only kind of patina you will get on a future vintage watch 10-20 years from now :) everyone is soo careful with their toolwatches. Scratch the lugs on it and it will be worth thousands and thousands of dollares!

Hey Adrian, it seems to me you need to design a fitting to go into the sides of the moden sub so your leather straps can quick release. I’m thinking Cartier Roadster style.

Hi Adrian - great video as always. I am just about to order several Nato straps from you for my IWC Pilot Chrono 41 (black). Obviously no tool required for this task. However I just had a thought as the strap size is the same for my IWC Pilot MK XVIII. I'm thinking then to get the Bergeon Spring Bar Tool from you as well and I can change the look of my MK VIII. How easy is it for you to remove the spring bar on this watch, given you took the plunge recently and got the MK XX (nice choice) :)

I got some slightly curved spring bars and the damage on straps was resolved.
Putting on the solid end links on the explorer without that “tweezer” tool is no fun at all....
I can put on the solid end links on my Explorer without the tweezer, but I cant remove them without the tweezer.
Same here. I can do it without the tweezer but it's just so much less frustrating to use one.
I’ve removed them and installed them with out it and it’s a pain...bought a 30 dollar pair of those “tweezers” on amazon and it’s saved me a lot of frustration and scratches to my case 😂
Hi Adrian - This is the bane of my life owning three Rolex's all without lug holes so I bought a bergeon 6767-F and ended up spending several hours trying to change the strap. Could you advise what are the best tools for the job as ism constantly scratching the back. cheers pb
I always tape off lugs so not to scratch lugs.
You showed the changing of the strap on the explorer like people say jaeger lecoultre 😂😂
Another massively useful tool is a magnifier light on an arm. That way you can see properly and have both hands free to change your straps and minimise the chance of scratching your watch.

I’ve learned something from you... I’ve always placed my watch head crystal down on bubble wrap (so if anything flys the bubble wrap keeps it from bouncing) to change my bracelets. I like the watch in hand with pressure on the first link with your forefinger and thumb... I’m gonna try that...

Curved spring bars stops the strap damage. Get the next size up bars, place across a teaspoon, then push another teaspoon into the bar until you cannot push any more.

Great video. I just hate how rolex put the holes so close to the case. I have only put a leather strap on my 116000 a couple of times due to this. This is a primary reason I am on a wait list for a BB58 rather than for a 114060... much easier, and nicer looking to have a strap on it.

Awesome video and tips. But..... I find it very hard to change out the bracelet to either a NATO or leather strap. Not because of technicality but because of quality. I did wear all three types of materials on the watch in the past but eventually it broke or wore out. Ever since I pay a higher premium to attain a bracelet to the watch I get so I don’t ever see myself swapping out to a bracelet or NATO strap.
Adrian, you should think of doing a strap like Rubber B for your strap line
I’ve looked into it and the R&D is very expensive. It makes sense why they charge so much, it must have cost a huge amount to get them right.

I always found putting the watch bracelet back on (even with the tweezers) extremely difficult, sometimes taking hours of patience at a time. Just tried that ruler trick and did it easy two or three times!! Thanks for the video B&J :)

Dam, I wish you showed this video yesterday as I put a NATO strap on my new no-date Rolex and I forced the strap through the spring bar and did exactly what you said, which is damaged the strap 😩😩... Dam! Dam!

I thought you should insert the spring bar tool parallel to the lug, not at right angles to the lug. Surely doing it your way will blunt the tool quickly and it will be more likely to slip? Correct me if I’m wrong!
I have the same watch and can move the spring bar but the bracelet isn’t moving away from the watch. Could do with a slow mo at 6 minutes please

Hi Stephen, thanks for your comment. We only have one size of strap at the moment. If you have one of our fabric straps, the extra flappy part folds back on itself and then tucked under the keeper.

I find that removing a speedy bracelet is a pain. When I’m firmly grabbing the case, there’s no way for me not to push on the chrono button 😂
