Hi Guys,
Here are a couple of pointers on how to customise a nylon nato or zulu strap.
I show you how to:
- Customise the length by shortening the strap
- Turn it into a zulu strap by removing the extra flap
- Heat seal any frayed edges
I hope you find this video useful.

The dude from watchfinder was very generous to lend you a pair of hands. Useful video . Travel pouches next !
Thanks Adrian! I've been meaning to watch this one for a while now. Very useful vid!
Thanks Guy. 👍🏻
Good old style BarkandJack DIY vid. Reminds me of early days of the channel.
Went to my kitchen and made a single pass strap halfway through the video. Awesome tip. Cheers!
Haha. Awesome. Glad you liked the tip.
Adrian, I'm not normally a nato guy, but these look amazing.
EveryDayMan I have 2 and they are amazing. Easily the best natos I’ve worn
This was the first NATO I've ever worn and i haven't taken it off my explorer for a month which is a long time! Love it!

Great video Adrian. Good info for everyone to know. I own a few of your nato straps and just bought another. Well worth the money. Cheers
This helped me with some added info.
I just bought 4 NATO’s and I didn’t even think of cutting off the strap underneath to get rid of the extra bulk.
Much appreciated!
Adrianis is a damn good chap, is what I say.
Adrian is a damn good chap, is what I say.
Thanks for the video! I just converted a bunch of standard seat belt natos to single pass version. I didn't realize it was so easy; I managed to destroy only one strap when I accidentially cut the long part off. But luckily it was a cheap one. Now I have a decent selection of single pass natos for the summer.
Glad it was useful. 👍🏻
Great video. Love your straps, they're solid!! Cheers, Craig
I think that you can do more videos like this. We missed it :)
That was brilliant, thanks Adrian 👍🏻
You can also make the second keeper float similar to a haveston watch strap by removing the stitching around the keeper! Just another quality of life thing that I like to do in addition to what you do to your straps.
I have 4 of the Bark and Jack straps they are easily the best Ive seen.
Thanks so much Ben. 👍🏻
Bark and Jack My pleasure mate
This video was super helpful 👍🏻
Simple yet I didn’t know this so thanks
Really do enjoy all your videos
Thanks so much Dan.
@adrian nice vid, useful tips. Btw, really like the quality of your straps, they are like Omega level. Fair play!
Thanks man!!! Love your straps!!!
Thanks a lot buddy. 👍🏻
One word: excellent
Great guide! 👌
I love your all black strap. Fit perfekt on my Oris diver 65!
Helpful informative and concise
This could come in handy, got my b&j strap Saturday for a Hamilton khaki field watch that hopefully will arrive Tuesday
Fantastico! What you can find out on RUclips! Very helpful, very kind
Before bark and jack I was miserable
Such a fun video Adrian...I prefer the Australian method for single pass strap (as I use straps on multiple watches and want to keep the nato for some)...you can all pull the stitching on one side of the first or second keeper to 'free' it (for future videos). I love the channel and I love your straps - Thank you Adrian :)
Love you’re content, comfortable and knowledgable host! Request; review of the Baltic Aquascaphe.
Thanks Franco. Glad you like it. Baltic are sending one over. Should be here tomorrow. 👍🏻
Best nato ever so comfy 👌🏼 will you be doing two piece with this material
You know what 100% bang on I’ll try this today .... I’ll order another one before I start 😂
Can you make a video about the difference between the two types of bracelets Floating or Fixed keepers?
Happy Easter Adrian Ive purchased a few of you NATOs and sent one to a friend. When do you plan to get into other straps? thank again, Mitch
Hi Mitch, thanks so much for your support. I’m hoping to having leather straps ready in about a month. I can’t wait to have them ready, I’m really excited about sharing them. Cheers, Adrian

Your Nato's are to nice to do this to
Thank you
Adrian, have you seen Crown & Buckle's "Chevron" straps? Nice fabric and well finished hardware, and two things that I feel really clean up the look are: 1. single layer of fabric, 2. a rather innovative resizing method that lets you have the right length while hiding away excess fabric *and* not having to cut off the factory finished end. I know you have your own brand and the straps are very good (and some might prefer the traditional NATO strap look), but I think Crown & Buckle really did something new and interesting here. Check them out if you didn't already!
Marc over at island watch did almost the same video recently. All good stuff Adrian who knows I may even be tempted to make one a Zulu as it’s the thickness that bothers me. Bout time I had a B&J on the wrist. 😁
Just looked at your NATO straps and they look smart. Do you have any lans for any further colour options?
Great content, Adrian! If you had some 18mm straps, I would crank it so quick! I've been wanting one of your straps but 20mm is too big for my current watches. Otherwise, solid stuff! Love the machined one-piece buckle.
Excellent video. Being that I'm a cigar smoker, I can tell you a cigar/torch lighter would be a more precise tool for sealing the cut in the NATO strap.
Hi Steve, could you comment a link to what you mean? Cheers, Adrian
Bark and Jack google jet lighter, that’s what he means it’s basically a mini blowtorch that’s a lighter much more precise because the flame doesn’t move from wind
Otto Lehmann awesome, thanks guys. I’m going to have to get one of these. 👍🏻

👍Good mods Adrian. But I just fold back the underside strap and match buckle to buckle. Then slide the watch on with the 2nd spring bar about to the strap holes. Then the buckle will be under the wrist. I still tuck the strap or you can cut off that excess. So I don't have any permanent mods to the strap. Quick wristwatch check: 114060 on Bond NATO with with correct red stripes. Cheers 🍺 from 🇺🇸.
I used a heat gun at 450C I hear lighters start off at 600C, worked out well.
Adrian, please do a version 2.0 with a sliding keeper. I need a new black strap.

Marc at L.I. Watch U.S. may get jealous!! As usual, Adrian does a bang-up job of making it simple for us. great Vid.
I’ve just recieved your NATO strap and it’s amazing!! 5 stars easily!! Pouch is also very very nice! And the kindness of hand writing thank you... I’m speechless...
Thanks so much buddy. Really glad you like it. Cheers, Adrian
OK - what is it when you live in a house with Kids - I have 3 pairs of scissors in my office - and I can never find them..... :) Quick question Adrian, will your 20mm Straps fit ok on 19mm Lug Widths? I recently got the Black Bay 36 - which has 19mm lug width - Perlon 20mm fits fine, but not tried "full" nato's yet. Happy Easter all!
Love the CWC G10 but your 20mm grey straps are sold out
I'm waiting for you to add a few nice Leather options to the NATO strap site ... Not NATO ones.
Not too long to wait. 👍🏻
I have a 8.5” wrist so I can never get Nato straps long enough. They go thru the first keeper only and never reach the 2nd keeper.
Where did you get your straps from?
What I do is take two coins and clamp them to each other with the strap in the middle. I then cut the strap with a sharp blade and singe the end.
Where has the Bremont vid gone?
I use a RedRoosterUK nato strap on my explorer 1 and it's absolutely perfect. It's 27cm in length which for me means I don't have to perform surgery on the strap to get the best fit and look (I'm not sure what the length of the straps @ B&J are as I didn't see any lengths mentioned). Fwiw, I went for the olive-green with gun-metal hardware as it's so utilitarian and so understated, it makes the Rolex seem like it's undercover... Transformers, Rolex in disguise :)
redroosteruk.com/nylon-military-divers-strap-16mm-to-22mm/
p.s. apologies, Adrian for posting a competitor's straps - I just want to share the solution I went with when I found 30cm nato straps to be too long :)
Would love non-seatbelt nylon NATOs... Seatbelt material feels and looks odd on the wrist IMO
tfw your wrists are too small for the nato straps... Are you guys planning on doing a shorter variation? I have 6" wrists.. :(
you would make a killing on curved lug rubber straps if you can get them.
I’d definitely buy one if it came in 18mm sorry you probably get this a lot
Wait a week 😉
Wish I had seen this ruined a couple straps that were too long!
Ouch!
You should have explained to people that if you make your NATO a single pass strap, a broken spring bar will send your 15k Rolex to the bottom of the ocean. The entire point of the NATO strap is your watch will not fall off your wrist even with a broken spring bar.
Even a single pass nato strap will hold the watch since the strap going through both spring bars is common.
Hey Adrian, there is quite a long rant from Archie dedicated to you. I do appreciate some of archie, but this is out of line. He critics Bremont and tjrn has a go on you. Undeservedly. I do not want to start a war of channels, but I think that some support for what you are doing is well due.
The main problem with natostraps is that they get dirty and ugly, and you need to wash them often. That is if you`re not in a clean environment, like many industrial jobs. And they are not comfortable enough, not for me anyway. And leather and rubber is not comfortable, so for me the only option is steel.
You’re out of 20mm grey
Should have more next week, or the week after at the latest.
That buckle incorporates a PUSHBAR inside it. You can clearly see the holes.
SO ... you're right back to a single-point failure vulnerability if that pushbar fails. Your watch drops. Boom!
Look for a single casting buckle ... where the manufacturer folds the cloth around it and stitches it in place.
These are cheaply made and a hazard to your watch.
The holes showing the spring bar was a design choice. You’re right, if the spring bar fails, the watch falls, but the stress isn’t on the spring bar, the stress is on the buckle pin pushing against the buckle. Our buckle pins are milled from a solid piece of steel, the same with our buckles. These can withstand much more stress that the single piece sheet steel buckles. They too have a single point of failure and that’s the buckle pin, which is simply stamped out of sheet steel. Your wrist will be break before our strap fails.
Honestly that end result just doesn't look good.. please make a single pass nato that is short in length. Also the keepers are always too tall to accommodate for two layers of strap, they should be slimmed down.
Wow that's a pretty cool WatchBandit strap you just ruined. Sorry but that badly cut burned uneven excess sure looks ugly! clearly not the way to go.
Why bother with a coin? Cut off the tip and move it down to trace around.
What's a penny?
Many thanks to Marc from Longislandwatch😂

Do not follow this method. U don't cut a NATO strap period. If you want the watch to be closure to wrist do your homework. Their is a super easy way to keep the strap as it is and still have the extra strap on it. This video shows that the man behind camera don't now how to work a NATO strap.
This is a very common procedure and one that has been shared multiple times on RUclips.
If you have a different method, feel free to share it!
There is no harm in cutting a nylon nato, as long as it’s sealed.
@@BarkandJack yes and it's faulted and very sad too see that one has to cut a product. There is plenty of videos that showcase how to operate a NATO without the need of cutting, burning etc. Please also know that I'm not trying to bash you however I think you should educate your buyers instead.
@@caet49 This video was educational. You still haven't shared alternative ways.
Bark and Jack easy..dont attach What you in the video Call the extra section....to the strap when you put on the NATO...instead use it when you put on your watch...and then attach the rest as usual. Let me know if u want a video👌
@@caet49 I don't understand. The nato strap is one unit, nothing can be attached or not attached.
Completely not necessary. FFS. All you've done here is change a NASTO into a ZULU. Just get a Zulu strap.
I really love and appreciate your content, but I have to say I feel like I just saw this from mark from Long Island Watch. Disappointing.
Thanks for watching buddy. No need to be disappointed, I’ve not copied anyone as I’ve not seen any videos online about these processes. I’m sure they exist, it’s fairly common knowledge. I’d expect all strap companies to have content like this. Cheers, Adrian
This COMMENT is disappointing.
