    Hi Guys,
    Here are a couple of pointers on how to customise a nylon nato or zulu strap.
    I show you how to:
    - Customise the length by shortening the strap
    - Turn it into a zulu strap by removing the extra flap
    - Heat seal any frayed edges
    I hope you find this video useful.

    Thanks for the video! I just converted a bunch of standard seat belt natos to single pass version. I didn't realize it was so easy; I managed to destroy only one strap when I accidentially cut the long part off. But luckily it was a cheap one. Now I have a decent selection of single pass natos for the summer.

    Adrian, have you seen Crown & Buckle's "Chevron" straps? Nice fabric and well finished hardware, and two things that I feel really clean up the look are: 1. single layer of fabric, 2. a rather innovative resizing method that lets you have the right length while hiding away excess fabric *and* not having to cut off the factory finished end. I know you have your own brand and the straps are very good (and some might prefer the traditional NATO strap look), but I think Crown & Buckle really did something new and interesting here. Check them out if you didn't already!

    👍Good mods Adrian. But I just fold back the underside strap and match buckle to buckle. Then slide the watch on with the 2nd spring bar about to the strap holes. Then the buckle will be under the wrist. I still tuck the strap or you can cut off that excess. So I don't have any permanent mods to the strap. Quick wristwatch check: 114060 on Bond NATO with with correct red stripes. Cheers 🍺 from 🇺🇸.

    I use a RedRoosterUK nato strap on my explorer 1 and it's absolutely perfect. It's 27cm in length which for me means I don't have to perform surgery on the strap to get the best fit and look (I'm not sure what the length of the straps @ B&J are as I didn't see any lengths mentioned). Fwiw, I went for the olive-green with gun-metal hardware as it's so utilitarian and so understated, it makes the Rolex seem like it's undercover... Transformers, Rolex in disguise :)

    You should have explained to people that if you make your NATO a single pass strap, a broken spring bar will send your 15k Rolex to the bottom of the ocean. The entire point of the NATO strap is your watch will not fall off your wrist even with a broken spring bar.

    • @ghostrider8307

      Even a single pass nato strap will hold the watch since the strap going through both spring bars is common.

    The main problem with natostraps is that they get dirty and ugly, and you need to wash them often. That is if you`re not in a clean environment, like many industrial jobs. And they are not comfortable enough, not for me anyway. And leather and rubber is not comfortable, so for me the only option is steel.

    That buckle incorporates a PUSHBAR inside it. You can clearly see the holes.
    SO ... you're right back to a single-point failure vulnerability if that pushbar fails. Your watch drops. Boom!
    Look for a single casting buckle ... where the manufacturer folds the cloth around it and stitches it in place.
    These are cheaply made and a hazard to your watch.

    • @BarkandJack
      @BarkandJack  3 года назад

      The holes showing the spring bar was a design choice. You’re right, if the spring bar fails, the watch falls, but the stress isn’t on the spring bar, the stress is on the buckle pin pushing against the buckle. Our buckle pins are milled from a solid piece of steel, the same with our buckles. These can withstand much more stress that the single piece sheet steel buckles. They too have a single point of failure and that’s the buckle pin, which is simply stamped out of sheet steel. Your wrist will be break before our strap fails.

  • @poiss73
    @poiss73 3 года назад

    Honestly that end result just doesn't look good.. please make a single pass nato that is short in length. Also the keepers are always too tall to accommodate for two layers of strap, they should be slimmed down.
