Today we’re going over every role in Town of Salem 2 with a fun fact for each of them, either about its lore, alpha version, or just an interesting interaction it has.

Town of Salem 2 is a social deduction game similar to Mafia, Werewolf, or Among us. In a social deduction game, the uninformed majority has to find and vote out the informed minority before they’re killed off. In this game, the town / townies are the uninformed majority. Some of their roles include jailor, deputy, seer, cleric, and others. The coven are the informed minority- Some of their roles include conjurer, coven leader, jinx, voodoo master, and potion master. Unlike some other social deduction games, ToS2 includes neutral roles not aligned with the town or coven, that each have their own goals. Jesters aim to get themself voted out, while doomsayers try to guess the exact role of 3 players, for example. Definitely give the game a try if you’re curious! I have plenty of videos that can help teach you the basics :)
learning that Pirate used to not be unique now has me picturing a scenario where a Pirate accidently targets another Pirate and i feel robbed somehow
Accidentally? That's some damn historical accuracy right there.
I think Pipe had one on the early videos aswell. Iirc. There was a 2 pirate game, and was very wild to see.
Also, there was more than 4 coven available for match 😅
@@emonte8148 achievement: privateer

@@FGenthusiast0052 yeah, it used to be 5 coven. Absolutely wild

Deputy is actualy from the CardGame originaly where it was the next sherrif (aka when sheriff dies the Deputy gets promotet to sherrif), he was just redone in ToS2 making him actually usefull
I remember seeing a Pipe vid with the WW rolecard bug. That shit was the equivalent of having Subway Surfers playing to the side of the game, lmao

1:43 An argument there is that Witch actually managed to find the gun, Solving the issue lol
LOL
Did you ever start looking for your phone until you realise it was in your hand the entire time? I think this is what happened with the vigi lol
@@fair7531where's my damn phone? I guess I should call it so I can find-
*Oh*
@@thatspellcastkkid_7672YTit is levitating in from of my face...
LEVIOSAAAAA
i'm now imagining the witch just handing the vigi a gun and saying "go, commit a crime"
FUN FACT:
Trickster is the highest skill role in the game. Perishing against a Trickster is a clear skill issue, and a sign that your brain was simply not big enough to prevent them from outplaying you.
me (the trickster) killing the conjurer because he was number 1 on the list: ah yes, i'm so good
Tricksters makes me want to become Arsonist irl, they visited me so I doused them and out of spite I ignite the next night.
Clearly, if you die to a trickster, and I hate to break it to you, you simply got outskilled man… Just should have played better.
The trickster actually taunts you in real life by making you die from skill issue.
Vigi being unable to shoot because they lost their gun sounds like a level of silliness that I’d be able to pull off every night, never mind just the first one 😭
They probably were taking a chill pill thinking Town was safe but then the Divine oracle announced that Coven is lurking amongst them
Vigi
N1: where my gun
Or it could just be vigi is trying to find tools to clean their gun which is why they can’t shoot.
Four side notes:
Lookout is one of two town roles that are astral, the other being Admirer.
The Veteran silhouette has long since been scrapped since it just didn't look good and was too similar to pirate
There are only 4 coven roles that have unique necronomicon mechanics, them being Coven Leader, Necromancer, Hex Master, and Potion Master (with Potion Master being the only bookholder that can perform non-killing visits to a non-coven target).
ToS2 Coven Leader essentially functions like ToS1 book Medusa with a visiting powerful attack, the main difference is that instead of having a stoning visit, they have roleblock immunity.
oh look at the big brain on you
6:20 I was actually part of the Alpha, and I remember the discussion we had about Pirate. Pirate has ALWAYS been Unique in Town of Salem 2, even during Alpha. At one point though, us testers asked the devs if Pirate was the only Unique Neutral role that wasn't a Neutral Apocalypse. That sparked a discussion of whether or not Pirate SHOULD be Unique or not, but it was eventually decided that Pirate wouldn't really work if it wasn't Unique due to how the game would handle 2 pirates dueling the same player or if two pirates dueled each other. Because of that discussion, the devs added that to the changelog to make it clear that Pirate was going to be a Unique role.
So no, there was never any Multi-Pirate games. It was simply in the changelog to make it clear that Pirate was going to stay Unique going forward, and that it was officially classified as a Unique role.
If y'all want another (maybe not so-fun) fact about Pirate, it and Doomsayer were originally able to be killed the night they achieved their win condition, and they would still lose. This was because the game only considers them winning AFTER it plays their Win animation. The devs changed them to gain Invincible Defense on the night they win to allow them to survive until their Win Animation plays at the start of the next day.
That fact above is also the ONLY change Pirate has received since Town of Salem 1, besides a Silhouette, Sheriff finding them Suspicious (As with all other Neutral Evil roles), and Win Animation of course.
Pretty sure Pipetron had a 2 Pirate game.
@@NotYourAverageNothing that isn't possible. I even remember specifically that before those patch notes, the devs said Pirate was unique in the code. A two pirate game of Town of Salem 2 has never been possible legitimately.
@@MarioMamTess Well I doubt I'm Mandella-ing myself.
@@NotYourAverageNothing well if you or anyone else finds that video that shows otherwise, feel free to let me know.
The werewolf dance... I miss it. I hope modders will save that beauty.
If I can figure out which game version actually had the animation, I could probably find a way to export it and bring it back into the current game
@@curtising wasn't it just in the version prior to the latest one?
this was a couple months ago@@siegesalem
@@curtising I remember it being in the game fairly recently too, maybe it survived patching up until a week or two ago? I could just be misremembering.
You are mis remembering, as it was only in the game due to them working on the Werewolf kill cinematic@@siegesalem
The name Shadowwalker was commonly used on the ToS forums’ Forum Mafia. In fact when I saw that Shroud was in the game my first thought was “oh they implemented shadowwalker”. You can probably find some old FM games with Shadowwalker among some other roles exclusive to FM (Marshal, Phantom/Shade, Prankster, Kleptomaniac, and more).
All this time i tought im the only person who actually knew anything about TIS other than the fact that it existed.
Me too!
Sadly I have 200 hours in that game lol
The potion master remaining Nikki is weird since they mainly switched over to pun names for role skins. The only pun I know involving "Nikki" and potions is Nicole Mimi Tithel from Mana Khemia 1.
...and if they're going there, Jess is better for PM :P
6:30 I'm firmly in the opinion that the red background from the arso bug should be used when a horseman pops out (or hell make intentional since after a fire there's a lot of redness and smoke)
maybe there could be a different effect for each transformation
war: smoke coming out of the buildings
famine: food scraps littering the streets
pestilence: sickly green liquids near the doorways
death: the sky turns dark red
GOD. YES. CHANGE THE SKY TO RED WHEN A HORSEMAN IS OUT. BMG ARE YOU THERE? WE NEED YOU.
I thought that the Wildling's art pulled inspiration from SCP-939 which would have been an odd choice. I feel more solace recognizing that it's supposed to be a demonic Gollum instead.
4:36 ToS 2 Witch is basically ToS 1 Witch, but as a Coven role. The idea seems to be to make the Witch its own role again and use Coven Leader for the new role that the Coven centers around, like before. They separated the CL’s ability to do a generic kill out into the Necronomicon. Now that the book is always in play and every Coven kills in addition to using their ability when they have it, the Witch’s effects look a lot more like a normal Coven role and don’t give it much reason to be called the leader.

Coroner best role right?
Yep, cant tell you the number of times Coroner carried the game
Smartest townie in any room, because every coroner has 90 degrees.
Once I was playing horseman mode the Coroner found all 4 Neutral Apocalypse
Remember to always Spam who your coven is when you get Illu it gives you a better purpose.
But then you put two people that aren't actually coven
Unfortunately, and I should care to repeat this, that Disguiser and Illusionist are separate roles, since both happen to exist in TiS, which apparently takes place in between the two main games.
Neither is the same role, although Illusionist seems to have ursurped Disguiser's mechanics.
Also, claiming that Psychic uses RNG and not pseudoRNG is a bit difficult to substantiate, as true RNG is nearly impossible to perform.
Hex Bomb was originally called Final Hex.
Unanswered tos2 question: Why do Vigi, Pros, and Dep face the Hangman's wrath when they mess up, but the Jailor only gets fired?
jailor is the hangman
I actually think that vigi is the 'odd one out' there instead of jailor given how vigi and jailor act during the night. Personally I feel vigi should be silenced after shooting a townie and suicides after that.
0:42 this was brought up when working on Better TOS 2!! The Marshal role was also originally incorrectly called Marshall, but this got brought up when making the icon for it loooool

Nope. It was originally called Marshall (similar to its TOS1 version in the TOS1 mod) and Curt told me Marshal was a typo, which they apparently stuck with later.

I had this in the replies to another comment, and I doubt it would gain much traction rn, but here are 20 facts about the game's skins!
1. Macy is the only skin to have a cutscene-unique animation (which is for being shot by a deputy).
2. Martha was the first NPC to be added to traitors (not counting Elizabeth/Sister Mercy who was used as a placeholder for all the other npcs)
3. Most of the character's eyes fade to black towards the top, but for some reason this doesn't apply to Petra and Shinrin, who both have a more orangey color instead.
4. Speaking of traitors, it seems that the skins were initially supposed to reuse their names from traitors (see 3:03). For some reason this doesn't apply to Jackie. The other skins listed are now known in-game as Rosemary, Tomas, Shinrin, Gerald, and Grim.
5. Nevermore actually keeps his crow in his ghost animations unlike his base skin, Avery.
6. The vampire winscreen is the only time the ghost idle animation can be seen without the effects.
7. Liric and Sabrina use their second idle animation on loop for other animations (Sabrina for her victory animation, Liric for his trial animation).
8. Black Widow seems to have about six eyes (you have to look closely to see)
9. Out of all the skins in salem 1 to be redesigned for salem 2; Firebug has the least changes to his design while Kande has the most.
10. John, Blyte, and Jackie are the most frequently used skins. Shadow Wolf and Grim are the least frequently used skins.
11. As of current, the head icon for Shinrin's battlepass variant skin is off-centered. Probably due to removing the original fox ears.
12. Glinda's wand and scroll come from one of the game's microtransactions. Specifically the one to change your account name.
13. Nevermore and Coven Leader are the only variant skins that have animations unique to them, that being their trial animation (maybe also Van Hellsing w/ her victory animation but I'm not sure if she's actually a Macy variant).
14. Summer transforming into a butterfly is a reference to ToS1 Nikki, who turns into a moth. This is also where her other variant gets its name, as in traitors it's called "DustyMoth".
15. In the TiS Alpha, there was a placeholder minigame timer that featured an older, slightly different version of the current artstyle. This included older versions of the current characters, and featured a Beta design of Rosemary.
16. Kande's battlepass variant is a reference to ToS1 Kande. It has the same pants and markings under the eyes.
17. Headless Horseman loses his pumpkin head in his ghost idle.
18. Out of all female skins, Sabrina and Rosemary are the only two that have skirts that don't go all the way down to the knees.
19. Liric's asset in the Skin Select screen does not have any eye shading.
20. Catherine seems to be a redesign of Sister Mercy, an NPC in traitors. They have the same dress.
3:17 haha I yoinked that screenshot from dms since it was the easiest source to confirm that fact 😄
Fun Cleric fact: I don't know if the bug still exists, but back when I played in august, there was a bug where if you had a custom list with only town roles, with a TT as the only evil, then a cleric would be forced to spawn in the game, even if cleric is banned, if there are no TP slots in the game, or if there are already 6 clerics in the game (meaning you would spawn with 7 clerics). It would spawn instead of a townie in any town slot that is some sort of RT (like TI or TS, or just RT). Roles preset in the list like Jailor are not affected.
Also, a Potion Master fact: This has since been patched, but using the same bug as the Retributionist, it was possible to use your potions on targets you cannot normally use them on. This means you could use an attack potion on your own coven.
real talk though, they should've left the ww dancing, it's funny af and gives it something to do besides looking depressed
Wait,if tracker was remained unchanged mechanically. Wasn't arsonist also mechanically unchanged?
The reason the vet doesn’t have a silhouette is they plan to redesign it
Coroner got 4 buffs still really trash and A meatsheild
it's good if you know how to use it well
The splatoon shade thrown is crazy
I thought this said a fanfic about every role :skull:
Now that explains why so many horseman icons
They were showing in our faces all this time!! And we were clueless (at least i was)

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think that Cleric is ALSO able to cure Poison on revealed Mayors, unlike in TOS 1. I feel like I remember it happening when Early Access first came out.
They're supposed to be able to, their role card mentions it iirc, but as far as I'm aware, a bug currently exists that prevents it.
2:02 You know it sounds stupid when you're getting called out by people who play social deception games.
That adds more salt to the injury
Coroner, most buffed role in ToS history, still so useless it's best played as reverse Jester trying to bait Conj/Rit
Common Curtis L
where is this ritri nerf doc if it still exists?
Not at the liberty to share a link to it unfortunately, as I didn’t make it and can’t adjust it’s permissions, and I don’t trust RUclips to not go comment all over the document and ruin it
1:46 JAILOR HAS A PONYTAIL? THEY'RE EVEN HOTTER THAN I THOUGHT. i mean. what? who said that. guilty this
I miss the werewolf dance
Ah yes, our old Veteran Deputy Sheriff Marshall
2:30 oh I hate it
The jailor went full weeb and cut off his ponytail with the sword to show that he is a changed man.
In my opinion the Werewolf dance should be immortalized as an easter egg because it is amazing, maybe a version of the role's win screen that only appears if it was a multi WW game and they all survive?
So. . . Who wants to get jester and then proceed to say something on day 2 along the lines of: "wow, the character really does dance when i mouse over the role card" and then vest then next night in case of a vigi, sk, or coven attack
3:56 Of course, Jinx would be trolling if she started building Morello... oh wait, wrong game.
Can't help but feel like that unused Enchanter icon was meant to be a Blade Runner reference, which is pretty cool.
4:48 I thought the devs said this wasn’t true? Iirc one of the devs said in the discord that it’s random and not based on player order or anything like that
2:28 I will do my best to suppress this knowledge I gained today.
It is somewhat cute and kinda cursed.
I still kinda wonder why jinx gets book the last. Is it too strong with it or the exact opposite?
I love how alpha rit was so strong that BMG buffed it.
I feel like I should be concerned that I knew most of these.
FACT bears eat beets. Bears, beets, "Battlestar Galactica."
Pipe said the werewolf is going nuts when he first saw it LOL
Question: What video was the one mentioned for the retri fact?
should i play town of Salem again?
Oh I somehow still thought Pirate wasn’t unique.
Do you know why the Sheoud is called the Shroud? Where does the idea come from? What’s it a reference to?
Because it is Shrouded in mystery
Psychic evil visions use RNG on evil visions, not so much in good visions. If you suspect someone is evil and you select them in your good vision and it gives you a confirmed town, that person who you selected is guaranteed evil, the only way it gives a town is if you selected an evil (yes both can be good but it is very very unlikely), the games code tries to make the result true and selects a town member at random. If it is a confirmed seer/Lookout/any other non revealed roles. Psychic results also cannot give revealed roles, so if a mayor reveals psychic cannot get them in their rng results.
that is still rng
... psychic can have 2 townies in a good vision. Sigh.
Admirer is the worst role in the game. Why not make it Guardian Angel, but town ability ONLY. Why make it lover's mode where two get killed? I would rather be a framer in TOS1 with a role list that includes ZERO TI than be admirer in TOS2. If I wanted to play lovers mode, I would play lovers mode so that 1/2 the lobby are playing with the same rules. Placing a bad rule on myself and one other team mate is just horrible and the negatives of it are worse than the positives on the class even accounting for the confirming yourself to another towny. Guardian Angel... not Guardian Angel + Lover's Mode.
i have seen admirers kill their target more often than saving them. they honestly should have the ability to care the same night they propose
I feel like a rework should be made to turn Admirer into a proper TS. As it stands, Admirer is a garbage TI with the ability to protect only twice, and it's not even the same night they propose! Where is the support in this? It doesn't "support" town in any meaningful way- even Amnesiac is more balanced than this

4:20 (Nice) - This isn't actually confirmed to be the first instance of this as far as I'm aware, as afaik, the Town Power alignment could've been made first. In the original Town of Salem, players would use Town Power as a made-up alignment for the most powerful, usually unique Town roles. These were the guys who got the TP/LO on them and voted Innocent when someone was suspected of being a Jester. Think of roles like the Jailor and the Mayor. This way of thinking still carries over to Town of Salem 2, and is also an instance of the developers embracing the terms the community has come up with. Just a fun fact I thought I'd share with you.
Oh, and here's a fun fact about the two new roles!
-The Socialite's ability is the first instance across Town of Salem and Town of Salem 2 of Townies being able to talk in night chat without being *directly* targeted by a player's ability.
-The Marshal is the first role to share their role's name with the name of a different role's achievement. It is also the only Town Power role to not have originally existed in a previous game of the series (Jailor and Mayor come from ToS1, whereas Prosecutor and Monarch come from TiS)
Edit 11/02/2024 - Here's another fun fact - did you know? Every skin has flavourtext, even the default ones. Through this text, you can deduce the alignment of a little over half of the available skins. I'll put the list in the replies to this comment, since it's a very long list of 49 characters.
Edit 29/06/2024 - So, they updated the Socialite and now my fact is inaccurate, so here's a new one:
The Socialite is the only role capable of entirely blocking the visits of *every other role* (save for non-visiting roles and roles that visit dead players) AND gaining info from who they block. Their current button for their Guest List ability is also recycled from the Admirer.
Alright, here's the list! Brace yourselves!
GOOD
Davey (Canonically the Trapper)
Samuel (His flavourtext states that he'll try his best to guide these people through these terrible times)
Robert (Canonically the leader of the Town. Ergo, he's canonically the Mayor.)
Jackie (Canonically the Tavern Keeper. See Traitors in Salem.)
Martha (Canonically the Deputy Mayor. See Traitors in Salem.)
IMPLIED GOOD
Deodat (Because of the sentence "if only anyone would listen".)
Blyte (You might go "He's literally the Plaguebearer!" but his flavourtext implies him being a very talented medic/doctor who shares his remedies with the Town)
White Witch (She is apparently pursuing white magic, which is magic only used for good purposes)
Avery (Referred to as the Falconer in Traitors in Salem. His falcon is used as the icon for the Lookout's ability. Implied to be the Lookout.)
UNKNOWN
John
Mary
Giles
Jack
Brokk
Artemys
Francisco
Catherine
Liric
Rosemary
Headless Horseman
Krampus
Betty
Husky
Anubis
Lockwood
Shadow Wolf
Grave Digger
Nevermore
Chef
Odin
IMPLIED EVIL
Gerald (His flavourtext states that he's a master of dark magic and the arcane, but that isn't proof enough for me)
Shinrin (His flavourtext calls him a half-demon)
Black Widow (A temptress is a woman who is considered to be dangerously seductive)
Dusty (While she canonically no longer uses the base Potion Master skillset, this is not a telltale sign of her turning Good. She might just be a Potion Master with different potions now.)
Sabrina (Probably the Jinx. In Traitors in Salem, she asks you to steal things from the Mansion for her in exchange for a cooldown decrease. Magic(?) and theft, anyone? [Though, I'm not saying everyone in Salem is entirely innocent in legal terms])
EVIL
Macy (Canonically the Baker)
Death (Come on...)
Bridget (Canonically the Witch)
Lupin (Canonically the Werewolf, though this may be incorrect due to him staying transformed during the day. He may just get bloodlust on full moons.)
Vladimir (Canonically a Vampire, though this may be incorrect due to him not dying to the sunlight)
Nikki (Canonically the Potion Master)
Petra (Canonically the Medusa)
Thomas (Canonically the Pirate)
Firebug (Canonically the Arsonist)
Kande (Canonically the Poisoner)
Famine (Come on...)
War (Come on...)
Pestilence (Come on...)
Coven Leader (It's in the goddamn name)
@wingidon Objection, your honor!
Traitors, despite not saying much about the characters, do give a bit of information regarding certain skins. Im mainly pointing this out because of the alignments you classified the skins.
Jackie and Martha are confirmed good. They are npcs in traitors, but Jackie *is* confirmed to be the tavern keeper, while Martha is known as the deputy mayor.
Avery is referred to as "Falconer" in traitors, which is a person who trains falcons (which are in fact, birds of prey), and his falcon is also used as the ability icon for the lookout. Ergo, Avery is canonically (or at least implied to be) the lookout.
I have nothing to support that Shinrin is good but in traitors he is referred to as "Kitsune", which is a type of fox spirit. This combined with the mentioned flavortext of him being a half demon has interesting implications and doesnt look good for whoever his father is.
Sabrina in traitors will literally ask you to steal stuff from the mansion for her in exchange for a cooldown decrease.

Personally, I think they should re-implement the old neutral roles into TOS 2. As a later thing, because obviously it's not that important, but being able to add old neutral amnes/GAs/etc, even survivors to my custom games would be a heck of a lot of fun. Also add vampire and cursed soul to customs. And let us add pairs of lovers like the tos 1 lovers mode. But do more important things first.
