I've always liked Willie Nelson's comment about Emmylou: "There are two kinds of men. Those who are in love with Emmylou Harris, and those who haven't met her."

Let's remember to play tribute to the songwriter, Nanci Griffith, whose entire catalog is worth checking out.

I attended a concert at a beautiful outdoor amphitheater back in 1977 where Emmylou opened for Willie. Best concert of my life. It is said that Emmylou can harmonize with a chainsaw and make it sound good.

Good one, Harri. This song was written by a wonderful Texas folk singer/song writer named Nanci Griffith. You should give Nanci a listen sometime too. Love her music. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂

I was so sad when Nancy died. Loved her music. She gave alot of musicians exposure who might otherwise not been heard. A very generous kind person

and let's not forget the co-writer,and first performer, Nancy Griffith. Has Harri done her yet? if not there are a lot of gems: Love at the 5 & Dime, Once in a Very Blue Moon, Road to Aberdeen, From Clare to Here, Ford Econoline, There's a Light Beyond These Woods, Tecumseh Valley, More Than a Whisper, Speed of the Sound of Loneliness .................. She & John Prine were probably a big part of my emotional growing up .

She's still very much in demand in the studios doing harmony vocals.

Thank you so very much for reacting to this request, Harri. Your comments (and the look on your face) gave me such pleasure. I'm so happy you liked the song. It's on my weekly playlist as well. I believe Willie sounded the best he ever has on this duet. His voice isn't easy to duet with, but Emmylou can harmonize with anyone. Many thanks again!

From Emmy Lou's 1990 Duets album, this was originally released in 1987 on her Trio album with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt.
Emmy Lou opened shows for Willy in the 70's and he asked her to stay till the end of his set to sing duets together.
This song is about the love of a couple who's love transcends demands of their working class life. The bittersweet melodies and heartfelt lyrics brought to light with the wonderful harmonies that blend together effortlessly make for such a delightful tune. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Carolina. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Carolina - A belated welcome to you. I somehow missed seeing and watching this and another submission about 4 days ago. Your submission choice was excellent. They put out a duets album about 15 or more years ago with some outstanding and popular songs. Harri, I agree with your comments about Willy's smooth vocals as captured on this and other albums around that time period. Emmylou's vocals have always been wonderful. Together on this song, they were magnificent. Carolina and Harri you both made this one a real treat.👏👏

I've got more than 30,000 songs on my laptop but I haven't heard this song before and it is a gem. My wife really likes Emmylou and I'm thinking that I should listen to more of her because I do enjoy her songs. My problem is that I confuse her with Carly Simon for some reason and I really hated "You're So Vain" when it came out so I have to get over this knee-jerk reaction. I like Nanci Griffith too so it's strange that it's new to me.
Still, it's a very good choice by @carolinasbeauty which I will now have to listen to again.

@pauldover1403 - I'm so happy you have (?) another song to add to your impressive song list! I thought I was over the top having 6,800+ song on my computer. If I may, give a listen to some of her other songs and see what you think - "Tulsa Queen", "Poncho & Lefty" (her version was what inspired Waylon and Willie's) "Long Black Veil" (with Dave Matthews), "To Daddy" and finally "Boulder to Birmingham" (which she co-wrote.) All the best to you, Paul!

Gulf Coast Highway, he worked the rails
He worked the rice fields with their cold dark wells
He worked the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico
The only thing we've ever owned is this old house here by the road
    And when he dies
He says he'll catch some blackbird's wing
And we will fly away to heaven
Come some sweet blue bonnet spring
She walked through springtime, when I was home
The days were sweet, our nights were warm
The seasons changed, the jobs would come
The flowers fade, and this old house felt so alone
When the work took me away
    And when she dies
She said she'll catch some blackbird's wing
And she will fly away to heaven
Come some sweet blue bonnet spring
Highway 90, the jobs are gone
We tend our garden, we set the sun
This is the only place on earth blue bonnets grow
And once a year they come and go
At this old house here by the road
    And when we die
We say we'll catch some blackbird's wing
We will fly away to heaven
Come some sweet blue bonnet spring
Yes, when we die, we say
    We'll catch some blackbird's wing
And we will fly away together
Come some sweet blue bonnet spring

Emmylou can sing with anyone! But I do love her with Willie. One of my favorite Willie Nelson videos is from his Teatro album. The song is "I Never Cared for You" and it also features Emmylou. It's not a duet but she is singing backup and Willie's guitar work on the song is absoulutely amazing. Worth checking out! ruclips.net/video/kmdwsLtNx2E/видео.htmlsi=t7SKxU0MHCmsNLKW
