Great comments, and I agree that adding Emmylou's harmony took this song to another level. However, listen to the story, from cradle to grave, told in a beautiful poem set to music. My favorite lyric, after singing about being gone from his home and living in the city for 30 years, "there was something in the city that he said he couldn't breathe; there was something in the country that he said he couldn't leave" John Denver knew how to write musical lyrics .
@@sharontesta6566 They are my two most favorite of all time plus several others, so that almost doesn’t make sense, lol, but I do generally gravitate to their music first.
John did some awesome duets which includes "Fly Away" with Olivia Newton-John and "Perhaps Love" with Placidlo Domingo. Both are wonderful works of art.
I can't believe you did this! It's one of my favorites, about my state, Montana - Big Sky Country!!! Montana is the best gift I gave to my children. The land and a life in the wild winds, the Rocky Mountains and that wild Montana sky! Another good one by him is Calypso, about the Ocean Explorer ship "Calypso" with Jacques Cousteau.
My dad was born and raised here. I was born here but my dad joined the military. After he retired we came back and this song was playing as we crossed the border "home". I looked over at my dad and tears fell as he knew he would never leave again.
Emmylou Harris IS harmony. I believe she has sang on more records than anyone else in history. It has to be in the thousands, literally, by now. How do you make a song sound better? Bring in Emmylou Harris.
The two of them singing together equals perfection. So beautiful. A story about the Wild West. Thanks Harri and Carol. Great reaction. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I agree totally with you. Have you heard John and Mama Cass Elliott sing Leaving On A Jet Plane together? It's on RUclips if you haven't heard it. They also sound great together.
Good suggestion for Matthew. I was also thinking of that one. A lesser known John Denver song, but one of my favorites. I have a lot of favorites from him.
Beloved and missed. A beautiful soul a free spirit...how many times he left me speechless and in tears with his songs full of love for life and nature. A true treasure for all the world.
I love them both! I've seen him in person "in the round" 3 times. Have you ever heard "To Daddy" by Emmylou? The best! And her song 'Easy from now on"- the story-telling, lyrics and deep feeling!
Great song with gorgeous harmonies. Please, Harri, to truly hear Emmylou react to Boulder to Birmingham. The original version from Pieces of the Sky reveals her writing skills and her voice when she was a bit younger. She's perfection.
Yes, Yes, Yes! Boulder to Birmingham! Yes, Yes, Yes. From 'Pieces of the Sky! Ple-e-e-a-se! Boulder to Birmingham! You got that, Harri! Boulder to Birmingham! You won't regret it!!! Boulder to Birmingham! You'll thank us forever ...! ( Still listen regularly, after decades. So, so beautiful).
John is my favorite singer and can sing with anyone! Other duets would be "Perhaps Love" with Placido Domingo, "Love Again" with Sylvie Vartan, and "Fly Away" with Olivia-Newton John! Also did a song with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band called "And So It Goes!" Please react to "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" which is my favorite song! I am a huge fan of Emmylou also! "Born to Run" is my anthem to life and she did a duet with Don Williams called "If I Needed You" and "Tulsa Queen" is great too!! Emmylou is one of the best voices too and has the respect and admiration of many of her colleagues! Another favorite of mine from her is "Another Lonesome Morning". Good listen tonight, Harri!
I wish these two had performed this live and they had done more together. Live, John let's loose on this, The Wildlife Concert, backed by Pat Hawk. This is JD and Emma's only duet. Johns voice had a large range and he could sustain notes. People think he was one layer but his voice and songs were many faceted. Agree this should have been a huge hit. Thanks for reacting to it, beautiful song/story/singing.
I agree with you about this song - it should be more widely praised. A great pity that after the 70s mega-stardom phase of Johns career, his later material which was some of his best (as he went from strength to strength in his musical maturity) seems to get overlooked. Music can be a fickle business, but hopefully time will do it's sifting! Great reaction mate.
Emmylou's early music (Boulder to Birmingham, Evangeline etc) is great but don't forget her recent output! As others have mentioned her work with Mark Knopfler is memorable but if you're interested in Emmylou rocking out there's Drivin' Wheel, Baby, Better Start Turning them Down, It's Only Rock 'n Roll and the Maker (from her live album Spyboy). She even covers a few Bruce Springsteen songs among which is a stunning version of My Father's House (Bruce even sang harmonies on her song Tragedy from her Red Dirt Girl album).
For duet, you might listen to Emmylou and Arlo Guthrie singing Woody Guthrie's "Deportee". There used to be a live video of it on YT, but it seems to have disappeared. If you can find it, it is incredible.
I believe the name you were looking for, in trio with Dolly and Emmy Lou, is Linda Ronstadt. TY, I have never heard this song before, it feels like Christmas morning .....
John started singing in Folk Trios before going solo. The song is beautiful but this is the first time that I have heard it, So it would be low on his hits. Listen to Calypso, Rocky Mountain High ,Sunshine on My Shoulders and many more.
By the way, you need to hit some Woody Guthrie tunes, too! You've reacted to one by his son Arlo, but not the father. Start with "Hard Travelin'" or "Do Re Mi." Woody is the godfather of American folk music.
First time listening to this tune though I have heard dozens of John’s great tunes. Emmylou Harris has a much superior voice than Dolly. She was already legend long before Dolly became popular.
Very underrated song of John' Denver's. I love this song---it feels like Montana did for me. He got the big sky places--also love Rocky Mountain High (I think autobiographical). BTW, there's another person he sings with (this song), Pat Hawk. Don't think she has as strong as EmmyLou Harris, Pat Hawk sings much more softly. You might enjoy this as it is a much better recording: ruclips.net/video/8RRgIP-0pHk/видео.html
John got a bad rap for being too wholesome at a time when music was getting harder and rockers were getting all the love. Many of his best songs were overlooked unfortunately
Mr. Denver's voice was so pure. Put it with Emmylou's ethereal voice, you've got MAGIC!😎👍
Magic yes!

Emmylou! She's a master harmonizer!
OMG!!! Absolutely beautiful. What beautiful voices. Thank you, great reaction.
One of my all time favorite songs and two of my favorite singers!
emmy lou is her own rabbit hole to dive into...she's fabulous ❤️
I've always loved the harmony in this. Love John Denver, and love Emmy Lou's tone!
Emmylou's voice is pure gold ✨️ 💛
Her voice is like a musical instrument ❤️
That’s no joke right there.
I think I just heard a couple of angels singing
@@sharontesta6566 They are my two most favorite of all time plus several others, so that almost doesn’t make sense, lol, but I do generally gravitate to their music first.
@@sharontesta6566 I’ve actually met both of them 😀

Never heard this duo song! Always beautiful-both of them. Whatever they do!

Never heard this one before and I love it! Their voices harmonize so well! Thank you for sharing this!
Oh, so glad you found this one as a huge John Denver fan.
You should really listen to his song "Matthew" next.
Love your reactions, Harry!!!
Good suggestion for Matthew. I was also thinking of that one. A lesser known John Denver song, but one of my favorites. I have a lot of favorites from him.
Thanks for recommending Matthew, just heard it for the first time, what a gorgeous song, written for his Uncle.
@@mariagrace234 so glad you liked it!
A poet and an angel. Just lovely.
I think this song came out as a single in the 80's. Emmylou can ding with anyone & still sound amazing.
Emmylou is sublime.
Love them both ❤️
I really love this song, so much.
Wow. This was my favorite song when I was around 17.
I would call the radio station and request it every time the request lines were open!

Great song!
Great songs from Emmylou- Hello Stranger, Blue Kentucky Girl, Icy Blue Heart, Roses in the Snow, Wayfaring Stranger, Rough and Rocky…

Perfect!
Linda Ronstadt was the other singer you were trying to think of. I love this song.
Wow, this is from one of my favourite Emmylou albums, "Duets." A knockout!
Two unmistakable voices! Great reaction. Look into Emmylous song To Daddy
Dolly Parton wrote "To Daddy". Just letting you know, if you didn't.😊
I wish these two had performed this live and they had done more together. Live, John let's loose on this, The Wildlife Concert, backed by Pat Hawk. This is JD and Emma's only duet. Magic! I'm not sure I ever heard this one. Thanks. Love your comments on it.
Love this song!
emmy can sing w all the greats.. check her out with gram parsons..singing love hurts..best harmony ive ever heard
Good one Carol, two great voices together. ✌️
I see you Hari. I rarely comment because I enjoy you discovering my music. This time you introduced something new to me, bravo.
Look at Emmylou's work. Great idea.
speaking of Dolly Parton…Emmylou Harris has made a few albums with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt; a trio of harmonious bliss!
Emmy Lou and Rodney Crowell.. The Weight of the World or Bring It On Home to Memphis. Two songs you shouldn’t miss ,
You are thinking of Linda Ronstadt. They were known simply as “Trio”. They have beautiful harmonies in their songs, many of which were covers.
Give a listen to her harmonizing with mark knophler from dire straits. They sing many songs together
Think I spelled his last name wrong
@@JUSTMAR1E Yes. Knopfler. I agree the concerts she did with Mark are just great. The name of the concerts was 'All the roadrunning'.

I agree that lots of his newer songs were spectacular, in particular his Windsong album is a gold mine.
I couldn't agree more. Their voices.blend so beautifully.
Being a Montanan, this is a wonderful jam.
Listen to Emmylou with Gram Parsons singing Love Hurts
Give Emmylou’s Michelangelo a listen. I believe she wrote it and the performance is striking. .
I'll be seeing Emmy Lou Harris and Mary Chapin Carpenter at Chautauqua in upstate New York in Mid August
Listening to this in Montana, in a basement.
Emmylou has my favorite song ‘one of these days’.
Emmylou's early music (Boulder to Birmingham, Evangeline etc) is great but don't forget her recent output! Emmylou stole the show on this song. She often does. For an Emmylou solo, listen to “Pancho and Lefty.”

“Grandma’s Feather Bed” is the one you should react to 🙏🏼❤️☮️
🤩
Try Emmylou singing Making Believe or Boulder To Birmingham. Emmylou's voice is clear as a bell.
John has a great singing style, but, Emmylou is the angels singing and playing instruments at the same time. I never heard this song, but it is cool.
Emmy Lou classic- 'Evangeline' from the Last Waltz. There is some fine stuff with Mark Knopfler like 'If this is goodbye.'.
John started singing in Folk Trios before going solo. The song is beautiful but this is the first time that I have heard it, So it would be low on his hits. Listen to Calypso, Rocky Mountain High ,Sunshine on My Shoulders and many more.
Linda Ronstadt.
