Amazing!!! Single mom, tested all my heating elements and they were good and couldn't afford to buy a new timer at the moment. Worked like a charm! Wish I could thank you in person 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much! This is exactly what we needed. Our dryer stopped heating on some settings, then wouldn't even turn on on some settings, but still worked for a while if we set it at 70 minutes, but ONLY 70. Today it wouldn't turn on at all. We followed the video, cleaned the contacts, and now the laundry is drying again. Yay!!!
Holy crap after watching a multitude of videos you really hit the nail right on the head. I used the metal file on my multi tool. Had to make adjustments after filing just like you mentioned. This is a $100 part for my dryer. Problem solved, thanks a bunch!
Most how-to videos for dryer repair on RUclips just show you have to swap in a new part. At the last moment before spending $70 on a new timer, I found your video. It helped me fix it for free. Clothes are finally dried, folded, and ready.
After checking continuity throughout the entire thermal circuits, ordering a new heater kit and 48 hrs scratching my head. It was this switch. I was baffled as I got voltage on both sides but didn't know that it supposed to cross over on the inside. Now I know and you save me money. AWESOME and THANK YOU from the present future lol

So i was able to clean all the contacts. Dryer is back up and running with heat. I have a Kenmore dryer and the setup was pretty much the same as the whirlpool timer which was pretty nice. The contacts in the timer looked like they had welded together and separated, but i took the pad and clean up and it was enough to get it going again. This is a great video and helped me out greatly. Thank you!
Thanks so much for doing this video! Troubleshooting/process of elimination brought me to a timer issue on my dryer, but couldn't figure out what to do except buy a new one for $60+ that MIGHT fix the problem. Your method cost me about $0.05 in sandpaper to test, and was exactly the issue.
Thank you. Wish I seen this 5 hours ago. I went through the wiring diagram to trace out the power to the heater. I ended up at the timer. Did continuity and found when I wiggled the timer knob, I got continuity on a and c. Pulled it apart and did as you did. Cleaned the contacts and bam, we got heat. I’m amazed how poorly they are made. Thank you again.
Found this video through another video you made where you mention this video... THIS WORKED - Thank you so much for saving me 75 bucks on plastic and sheet metal with about 5 bucks of copper in it!
My Amana dryer was heating but the stop buzzer was off on the heat setting position and the buzzer would go off mid drying Cycles.. polished these connectors and dryer is back to working normal.. thanks for the video man.. I was just about to order a $60 replacement timer on eBay and ran across your video.
Thanks, man! I managed apartments from ‘02 to ‘07 and fixed my share of dryers but now that I’m a homeowner it’s on me to buy replacement parts. You saved me the cost of a timer!

I just fixed my dryer thanks to this video. "A" to "C" had no continuity. Got "A" cleaned up and good contact and now we have heat. May still need to get a new timer though, not much left on the "A" contact, but for now it works.

Excellent video. I checked all the switches, igniter and solenoid coils and all looked ok. Then last night I looked for more troubleshooting ideas and saw a video how to check and replace the timer. This morning I came across this video that not only shows how to check it but also how to take it apart and fix it. I might have to replace the timer one day, but cleaning the A contact fixed the problem.
THANK YOU! I watched your other video on fixing replacing heating element and other parts, $40 on amazon, because I didn't have a multimeter. I replaced all 4 of the heating related parts, and the same day my $20 multimeter arrived. was so excited I replaced all 4 parts and the heater worked for a minute, and then it didn't. checked all 4 heating element parts, they had continuity. frustrated. found this video on the sanding of the elements inside the timer... BOOM, that was the problem. thank you. I didn't spend $600 on a new dryer!
Awesome video, you saved me a lot of money. I had checked all of the thermostats and heating element and the timer had no connectivity. I had no idea about filing the contacts. Makes me wonder how many people just toss their dryers and get a new one.
I run a used appliance store... That's how I get the machines for my videos. The number of dryers with these timers that have this issue is... frightening, and I know I'm small potatoes compared to other stores regarding these things. We always leave the timer *last* on what we check, because thermal fuse, element, ect are more likely. But unlike older machines where bad timers make up maybe 2-3% of bad machines, whereas these newer ones its closer to 15%.
You sir! Are a god send! Took me a while to find your video after a lot of troubleshooting, once i went through it, took me less than 5 mins to solve the problem! Exactly as you stated!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Great video!!! Thank you very much!! The problem with my timer wasn’t that the contacts were dirty (although I did polish them up), it’s that the one on the end just wasn’t contacting the other, so I just taped a plastic wedge between the plastic frame and the metal contact to push it over just a bit. Now it makes contact! Thank you again!!
Good video. I just got a dryer I found at the apartment dumpster working, ironically the same exact same Amana model from your other dryer video. Measured infinite ohms before I filed the contacts. Now I just need a washer...
Thanks! Figured this out myself but stopped working shortly afterwards. Watched to double check my sanity. You really do have to file or sandpaper these for 5-10 minutes each to get them SHINY. I wish it was easier to pull out and replace just the copper springy contact, but oh well. That is the real part to replace!

Great video. Got a subscriber. So I did this procedure and the heat is functioning as it should. The issue now is the timer will not advance. None of the cams got misplaced while repairing so I'm wondering what could've gone wrong? Timer was working before
I just removed the timer (the round disk) and it works perfectly. The button was very hard and that is why it did not make contact. No matter how much I scraped the contacts, it was still the same. Now it works perfectly, but without the timer.
I was just telling my wife how I needed a video like this, because I really didn't want to spend $120 on a new timer. I just happen to have the same dryer. Can't wait to go home and see if my terminals are corroded.
Dude you rock my dryer doesn't heat up I popped open the timer and has carbon buildup on the contacts I can't wait to clean it up and put it back thank you element is good 👍 .
Great job explaining it. This repair does fix this issue and can save lots of money. These new replacement timers cost $60-190. I also have bought 2 from Amazon and they had the same issue where the contacts were not making so it’s possible this problem is on a lot of this style of timer.
In my case, it ended up being the little round gears that push the metal pieces together. One of them got loose, which stopped the connections. Put it back in place and everything works perfect. Thanks for the video would never of thought to open it up.
Amazing video! I enjoy repairing verses buying new. My Roper dryer timer seems to not work, could it be the connection's just need cleaned? I already have the back panel off so I'll just go ahead take it apart and clean the contacts.
What a great video. I fixed my timer and the heat was back. It was very easy to see the damage to the contacts as they were burnt black and thin. Now that I have heat back, I will be curious to see how long it lasts. Can’t be too long as my contacts were quite thin as compared to others in the unit.
@@bensappliancesandjunk I have done this. I would think the amount of damage to the contacts would definitely have an effect in the longevity of the “repair”. I have tried to find a source fir the tungsten contacts and manner of removing and replacing them. Source for the whole contact arm:lever would be very helpful. Think I will go to my shop and see if I can use some from the other side of the timer. They look to be the same length. If the contacts are not on the wrong side, I might get lucky. Looks like I would have already checked that, but it has been a while.
Well, the answer is in. My timer failed yesterday 5/16/21 about 6 months after “reconditioning”. I’ll admit my repair could have been more thorough when filing the points though quite a bit of the contacts were worn away. I have disassembled the timer again and there is barely any contact left to bother trying again. New timer that has been sitting on the workbench is now installed. Still a great fix to get you through tough spots!
You sir might of just saved my marriage. Lol. Mine wasn’t a heating problem, on mine the timing motor got locked up and I snapped the dial clean off. Not realizing that it matters wear that dial was when it broke, the teeth didn’t line up, so after rebuilding the plastic shaft (blue tape baking soda and super glue), and sacrificed a 5mm Alen wrench for the shaft, the indicator line was 1/4 inch off. What saved me was your comment about turning it backwards. And I don’t know who would do that dumb of a thing but I promise he has learned his lesson. Lol. It slipped the gear ⚙️ and was bound up. Any way you were the only one I could find that showed me wear those damn ring around the shaft should be and wear those three arm sat. Yes, when I opened it I dumped it.
So while this didn’t fix my problem it pointed me in the right direction on what to replace. I filed the contacts really good and still didn’t have continuity between A and C. Sometimes I’d get it intermittently though. My guess is that the contacts are just shot and I ordered another timer. Thank you anyways! Edit: I DID fix it! I took needle nose pliers and bent the far right contact just a bit towards B and it was full continuity every time I switched to high heat modes (timed dry, automatic) and made sure there wasn’t continuity on other modes. The contacts were just a little bit too far apart.
I am working on a kit that'll come with new contacts for the timer as well as the plastic cams. I dont see the plastic cams being too warn often, BUT in my talks with other techs, they are certainly experiencing that.
Good video sir. Thanks * its worth mentioning never turn timer counter clockwise. It could potentially strip the gears/cams. Then the timer would be worthless.*
Thanks for another great video! Here's a tech question maybe you can answer. My Amana dryer has no buzzer, but the wiring diagram shows circuitry for an "optional" buzzer. I was hoping that I could add one and maybe the unused terminals on the timer would enable that? I can see that as another very useful DIY video you could make, it this is as all possible. What do you think?
I have done this. Not sure I put them all back in a dryer to resell because some are worn so bad I don’t expect it to be be very permanent. I really wish we could fine a source for those contact levers. Btw, I came across a video showing a groove worn in what I call the cam lever that you removed. A piece of plastic was shaped snd glued on to cover the groove caused by friction between the cam and the lever. Not sure how long that repair might last either.
Great video and instructions. I have a whirlpool dryer with similar timer. Dryer heats and dries clothes fine but does not tumble during the cool down mode or activate the buzzer. I’ve checked buzzer and it is fine. Do you think there are other contacts in the timer that drive these functions? - Update- yep I checked the connections - connection between B-C to turn drum would close in the heat cycle but not during cool down/Air Fluff. I bent the prong just a tiny bit and now all works good!
Great video..had to do it like 6x But it was very informative. Definitely agree with those grooves worn in to platic(junk) Advances its just a matter of time. Funny I watched my son spin the timer handle like it was made of I beam steal..no wonder it failed..lol nlol
Are the whole contact arms, from exterior connection up to actual contact surface points, removable by pulling them out a needle nose piler to burnish the contact surface and then repressing them back in? Thanks.
Question... I had the same burned contacts at terminal A , and cleaned them up. Checked all other points to assure their contact as the dial was turned all the way around. My problem still persists.....timer does not time-out. Unit does not turn "off". Can I put 120V to the 2 terminals of just the motor... to see if it is running/spinning?...or what?

@@michaeldhknight7569 Recently one section of the control knob has lost heat again. Seems to be just like before, and the other settings are working fine. So I probably need to go in and clean the contacts again, but have not rushed to do it because the other settings are working just fine.
@@livefromadive6751 how many months was this from the time you first cleaned the contacts?
@@michaeldhknight7569 10 months, right when I made the comment until the last 2 weeks is. I may try being a little more agressive cleaning contacts this time, always good to start gentle and work up
@@livefromadive6751 even so, for the small amount of work 10 months is a win for prolonging the life of the timer.
I just wanted to say thank you I did exactly what you said and my dryer is working like new and better because I replaced everything and now its working like a champ your the man
Sweet! I'm glad it works!
Great video. Got a subscriber. So I did this procedure and the heat is functioning as it should. The issue now is the timer will not advance. None of the cams got misplaced while repairing so I'm wondering what could've gone wrong? Timer was working before
Once again, I'm in awe, you rock bro, saved me $37 bucks on a new timer!
If you aren't getting heat and have checked everything else, 99% chance they are bad.
On eBay it’s always super inexpensive to get these
Dude you rock my dryer doesn't heat up I popped open the timer and has carbon buildup on the contacts I can't wait to clean it up and put it back thank you element is good 👍 .
Great job explaining it. This repair does fix this issue and can save lots of money. These new replacement timers cost $60-190. I also have bought 2 from Amazon and they had the same issue where the contacts were not making so it’s possible this problem is on a lot of this style of timer.
We do a LOT of these at our shop. Its crazy how often these go bad.
Thanks for the video. I had to clean the contacts and then I had to bend the far right or “a” contact towards the other ones and it works now!
Yep! That's typically the worst one, but you never know.
Thanks so much for this video, you literally saved me a couple hundred bucks. Keep it up. 👏👏👏
Thank you Ben! Very helpful and saved me 💰. Clean work uniforms for the week.
Congrats!
Thanks man! This was my exact problem and my dryer is downstairs cranking away now.
What a great video. I fixed my timer and the heat was back. It was very easy to see the damage to the contacts as they were burnt black and thin. Now that I have heat back, I will be curious to see how long it lasts. Can’t be too long as my contacts were quite thin as compared to others in the unit.
Let me know how long it lasts - very interested to hear.
@@StewBme1 what did the new timer cost you and where did you find the part?
Omg..one more comment..as I'm cleaning up and listening to dryer click and go through its cylce..im nothing but grins..freaking awsome..🤙👍🙌
You’re definitely the best!!! Thanks you!! You save me hundreds of dollars 😍😍😍😍
Your video really helped me solve the problem. Many many thanks.
What a fantastic video! What a fantastic teacher you are!
Thank you! 😃
Thanks for the help and the link to the correct parts!
Thank you, it worked 50% , but my plastic pieces were worn. So I ordered a new one anyways.
I am working on a kit that'll come with new contacts for the timer as well as the plastic cams. I dont see the plastic cams being too warn often, BUT in my talks with other techs, they are certainly experiencing that.
@@bensappliancesandjunk I bought a Timer on eBay. They were the cheapest. $68. That's still a lot of money.
Excellent video. Thanks!
Thank You for explaining so well
Good video sir. Thanks
* its worth mentioning never turn timer counter clockwise. It could potentially strip the gears/cams. Then the timer would be worthless.*
Thank you so much. Great video!!!. I will try this tomorrow.
Very helpful video,I learned something else, thanks so much, blessings.
Great Video, to the point with the right amount of details. thanks. Was about to go buy a new dryer. Wish there was a way to pay you something
I always accept CashApp or PayPal donations :-)
Thanks, I know what im looking for. I think I might even pop out all those contacts from the body to fix them up
thanks for explaining where to put probes on A B and C. put the tester probes against A and C, right?
Go video - helped me troubleshoot my Roper dryer.
That was the problem, Works good now. THANKS
Fantastic way to go!
Thank you. I did it and worked.
Really well explained!
Great video..had to do it like 6x
But it was very informative. Definitely agree with those grooves worn in to platic(junk)
Advances its just a matter of time. Funny I watched my son spin the timer handle like it was made of I beam steal..no wonder it failed..lol nlol
Great video very well presented. Thanks
Great video
What a great country, thanks for the cost savings, without greed getting in the way truly one nation under God.
Thanks Ben it worked!!!
