- I'll show you how to troubleshoot a gas dryer that won't heat, won't start, takes too long to dry, dries too hot or heats intermittently. My gas dryer is a Kenmore 90 Series, but most gas dries have the same or similar internal components.

THIS IS THE BEST DESCRIPTON OF GAS DRYER REPAIR I HAVE EVER WATCHED ! THE VERY BEST " THANKS LADY !
I just wanted to send a little something as a THANK YOU for making this video. Our 30-year-old dryer finally stopped heating yesterday, and I had no idea what to do except to start researching. I came across many websites, forums, manuals, and videos. However, YOUR video is the one that enabled me to fix my washer for $10.81. After testing everything as you had, it was actually my igniter that was bad. No reading on my volt meter. Picked up a new igniter this morning, volt meter showed a reading, installed it, and it fired right up and started heating again.
Again, I cannot thank you enough for your commitment to your tutorials. The details, straight to the point cadence in your delivery...everything about it is fantastic. You have a new subscriber in me!!! Have a great week.
This video should get an emmy award. So helpful. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.
Holy cow. THIS is how you do a diagnostic video. Wonderfully detailed, full of information to learn and nothing else.
this is how i need ALL 'how to' videos to be!
By far, the best diy video. Would recommend her over and over again because she explained and demonstrated how to do this job perfectly.
Agreed
Thank you. I truly appreciate your thoughtful comment and that you took the time to write it. ;)
This is the best instructor I have ever seen. Congrats on your tone of voice, assertiveness and clarity.
That's so kind of you. Thank you. ;)
I have to say this is one of the most thorough troubleshooting video I've seen to date! With all of my questions answered before I had to even ask! Amazing instructional video! You covered everything. And even explained in detail what each component should read and how they function. Very impressed. I hope you have a channel to follow!
Thank you, Jennifer. I appreciate that, and I'm glad the video was helpful to you. ;)
AGREED!!!!
Although I don't speak English, your teaching through the tests has taught me a lot. I am very grateful for the great teaching.
Antonio, your comment means a great deal to me and touched my heart. We don't need to speak the same language to teach each other valuable lessons. I have great respect for you, Sir, and am so glad I could help you in some small way.
March 2024. Can't thank you enough for this video. Our dryer quit heating up a couple of days ago. On our old dryer I had to replace the gas valve coils a couple of times and assumed the same this time but on this new dryer the igniter never did heat up. I was at a loss until I came across this video. A trip to Harbor Freight got me one of those multimeters for $4.92 at their parking lot sale! Turned out the thermal fuse was the culprit. I wouldn't have had a clue without seeing your video and probably would have been out several hundred dollars for a service tech. Instead, I was able to diagnose and repair it myself for around $21.00 total! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!💯
That's a WONDERFUL story to hear, Ted. I'm so proud of you foe fixing the dryer yourself. Look how much money you saved and how much you've learned. OUTSTANDING! ;)
I give you high marks for walking a novice through this daunting process…You were so specific and detailed I feel like I can stop guessing and just make sure I follow your steps…The men who make videos do not touch your detail and perfection… Not a feminist, but women are really better at teaching compared to the DYI men who go shotgun and leave a lot of gaps. Thank you for your perfect video!
What a nice thing to say. I truly appreciate that. Real proud of you for tackling DIY projects and fixing your own stuff. It's a GREAT feeling when you fix stuff, isn't it? You go girl!
You are simply the best! Informative, Easy to listen to and comprehend. Great photography, perfect enunciation and concise compact tutorial jammed with all the knowledge one needs without being cluttered and confusing! BRAVO!!! Frugal DIY is the real deal. Dump all the rest and just go with the best. Thanks for doing it right!!! Paulie W.
Than you, Paulie. That kind of you to say, and it means a lot to me. ;)
Bravo Ma’m. This is one of the best DIY videos I have ever seen.

You are a great teacher. Plainly showing and explaining every step. Thank you and keep it up!!!

This is a very AMAZING explanation with no doubt this person is extremely knowledgeable about this thank you for the perfect explanation on the gas parts this helped me a lot!
You are a treasure. It only took four far less capable videos to find yours. Thank you.
Best repair video I’ve seen. Great step by step instructions. Very thorough. Fixed my dryer!

That's so kind of you to say. Thank you for leaving me such a nice message. ;)
YOU LITERALLY SAVED ME, IM GONNA BUY THE COILS TOMORROW 🙏🏽 wish me luck
I am dealing with my whirlpool duet, 19 years old, with this excellent tutorial, I am confident I’ll be able to fix it!! Thank you some much!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I think is the igniter, I have checked the thermal fuse, the high limit thermostat, the thermistor, the Gas Valve Ignition Solenoid Coil, and they all test good.
The dryer turns on, but the ignitor doesn’t come on, there for the flame is not coming on. Thank you again for the tutorial!!
Thanks for this. This was fantastic and extremely helpful. You must be a teacher.
One thing I learned about dryers, any of them, is that it’s vitally important to clean lint filter after each load. Sometimes, if I’m doing a lot of towels, in the middle of a load. This prevents fires and also helps increase the longevity of unit since the whole thing including motor is not overheating.
Great point! I agree 100%, Alex. Interestingly, after I thoroughly cleaned all lint from my dryer when I worked on it, it dries clothes in about 2/3 of the time now. When I was a youngster (many, many years ago), an older gentleman told me, "Young lady, take care of your things, and they'll take care of you." Boy, was he right!
Absolutely right, I know a family who's dog died in their house DRIER fire, and confirmed due to NOT cleaning the lint filter. Heart breaking

This video is the best she explains everything clear
By far the best diagnostic on RUclips for gas dryer. Well done.
Amazing job on explaining and educating everyone who watch. Kudos for a job well done!! Thank you!
The best and most helpful video I watched on dryer troubleshooting. Your step-by-step process was invaluable in helping me identify the 3-pronged coil as the failed part which was determined after checking nearly all the others (nice to know they're all working properly). Thank you so much for your excellent video---couldn't have done it without you!
You're welcome, Homemountain! I just love hearing success stories like yours. Warms my DIY heart. Respect to you for fixing the dryer yourself! ;)
thank you for the excellent video. thorough explanation of how to test components, good video, audio, and camera angle.
EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT TUTORIAL! I’VE JUST DELETED ALL MY OTHER DRYER VIDEOS. THANK YOU.
Thank you from the bottom of my DIY heart. I appreciate that. ;)
The best tutorial video ever! So clear and concise. Thank you so much! 🙌
This video and the local replacement parts store saved us hundred of dollars.
That's wonderful to hear, Laina. ;)
So glad I found this. Great explanation for troubleshooting. I'm adding this one to my future "home repair" file. Thank you so much
Thank you, and you're welceom. I appreciate your thoughtful comment. ;)
the best video covering the subject
Thank you. I appreciate that. ;)
Like others said. Excellent video. I'm extremely handy and still found this very useful, covered a lot of info that even unsure people could understand. Without droning on about useless stuff. Excellent work!
Thank you so much. I appreciate that. ;)
Wonderful job and photography on teaching how to diagnose likely components for non heating in my Whirlpool dryer. Thank you so much.
This is one of the best videos I have came across to troubleshoot my dryer. Easy to understand and nice and clear video.
Thank you, KW. I appreciate your kind words. ;)
Best video hands down, thank you for actually walking us through and explaining the function and how to diagnose each component.
Thank you so much, Moto. I truly appreciate your thoughtful comment and that you took the time to write it.
You explain it really well. My dryer takes a long time to dry. It flames up on and off. I have a high degree of confidence the coils are the problem based on your explanation. I will order the parts first and then do the work. Ty
Superior quality video. I appreciate your clear explanations of the how things work, what each part does, etc. You've really simplified things. Thank you!
Well thank you, Sharon. Your comment means a lot to me and warms my DIY heart. You're wholeheartedly welcome! ;)
My igniter tested at 9, so I ordered the part online, installed it the next day, and now my dryer is working again!! Thanks again for you help!
That's wonderful to hear! You're welcome, Sharon.
Very helpful video. I appreciate your calm manner and clear explaination. It turned out this time (after previously replacing the solenoids and the thermal fuse) it was the ignitor. Dry clothes soon!
Thank you, Bob, for the thoughtful comment. Enjoy the dry clothes! ;)
The best repair video for my dryer I've found, it really helped me to solve my problem. thank you!
Great video! I watched a different one which was also helpful but didn't explain as thoroughly as yours. So when I watched yours completely I was confident that my gas dryer needed a new thermal fuse. All long I thought at some point you were going to say "and this is the problem source" or something like that but then I get it at the end that if this dryer was drying intermittently then the problem would've been the coils. You left me wondering but that was cool! Thank you!
You're welcome.
Thank you so much for this video. My dryer was not heating at all. I did each step, found out it was the cycling thermostat. You're amazing!!!!!
You're welcome! It's wonderful to hear you fixed your dryer--music to my DIY ears. Excellent job! ;)
13:58 You're the only person to suggest the possibility of a false positive on the coils. Sure enough, that was my issue. I tested all the fuses and coils in my dryer and they all were within spec. On your suggestion I replaced the coils and my dryer flame now stays on. For what its worth, my new coils did show a slightly higher resistance than the failed ones. THANKS!
I was just about ready to junk my dryer and buy a brand new one. Watched several videos on this type of repair. The unit that you are working on is almost identical to mine. Your thorough explanation gave me the confidence that I needed to tackle this project. I tested all of the parts that you described here. Ultimately the issue in my unit was the very first fuse that you tested. That part was $5 for two of them on Amazon. I was about to throw away a perfectly working dryer for $2.50. Just for kicks, I replaced all of the parts for a grand total of $52.65 in parts. And the dryer… Works like new! Thanks a bunch! I wish I could give you 100 likes!
That's impressive, Robin! What a success story. You should be awfully proud of yourself. Thank you for the inspiring comment, and you;re welcome. ;)
The best diy video I have ever seen! Everything explained, and shown clearly and thoroughly. FYI, my problem turned out to be the thermal fuse, which she said should be tested first.
Thank you so very much for your kind and thoughtful comment. It means a lot to me. Great job on fixing it yourself! ;)
Very descriptive. No need to watch any other video. Absolutely fantastic job!
Than you, very well explained and as you said the components are pretty much the same in every dryer, mine is a Maytag and I fixed thanks to your video.
I took a haphazzard approach to fixing my dryer until I found your video. Using your testing approach and working on the principle that, after eliminating all other possible causes, then whatever is left must be the solution! Indeed it was, false positives on the solenoids.
Thank you so much Frugal DIY! Dryer fixed! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
You're welcome. I'm glad my video helped you fix your dryer. Always glad to hear another success story. Great job fixing the dryer yourself. Happy DIYing!
@@frugaldiy1 Thanks again. I was, of course, using Shelock Holmes' technique and I should have used the phrase "however unlikely" My proof reading is apalling!
Excellent demonstration!
Amazing video. I love that you explained and showed everything
Thank you for the detailed information. It is nice to know what the components are as well as their function and how they work together. I have a fluke 117 that I haven't used much but today is the day to play with it as my gas dryer stopped heating. I can't believe how much lint is inside the unit. I cleaned my exhaust line 3 weeks ago (26 feet) but the inside is worse. I replaced the coils many years ago and the dryer has been working just fine until this week. I snipped a screen shot of the inside of the dryer, printed it, and identified the parts as well as what the ohm reading range should be for the coils and igniter. Thanks again.
You're welcome, Tony. Thank you. ;)
What an amazing explosion of the parts! You rock keep up the solid work 💪. You have earned yourself a new sub. 🎉
Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to say them. I appreciate that--truly. ;)

Damn, girl. You are good! Best instructional video on exactly what I am going through. Thank you.
LOL! Thank you, Jimmy. You made me smile and laugh. Warmer my DIY heart, too. You're welcome. ;)
Very helpful video. Watched it twice. The second time I watched it I had I pretty much watch every how to video looking for a little more info only to realize i was wasting my time. The second time I watched you explain in such clear exact words I immediately recognized the issue and what the course of actions I needed to do to fix my dryer.
FYI. The problem I and other do it ourselvers is finding the replacement parts? Question. Are these parts pretty much all generic across brands? Thanks for the video it really made the difference for us.
You're welcome, and thank you. I'd recommend you disassemble your dryer to retrieve the exact part numbers you need and then order them. It tends to take a little looking online to find some of the parts.
Great video and it helped a lot - although my Kenmore dryer might be a newer design because it's very different from what I see here. The burner is on the other side. The blower is not inside the cabinet, it's on the back bulkhead (along with the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat). Speaking of cycling thermostrat, on my dryer, searspartdirect refers to is as a "drying thermistor" and it has two pins, not four. You test it by removing it from the dryer, then measuring the resistance as you blow hot air from a hair dryer on it. You should see the resistance decrease.
I just got done testing everything and all components passed - but my dryer's burner shuts off a few seconds after it ignites so I suspect the coils. However the ducting and exhaust had quite a bit of lint so my first move is to clean all that out and see if that fixes it.
And indeed it was the coils. As you cautioned in the video, they tested good - but failed under operation. All fixed now - $17 at Amazon! Thanks again for making this video - it's by far the most informative appliance "fix it yourself" vid I've seen on youtube.
Fantastic video. Well done. Tganks
Excellent DIY
Thank you, Canyon Creek Labradors. That's such a nice thing to say, and I appreciate it. ;)
Awesome video Thank you!
