    As Borat would say, "great success!" Impressive speed the whole time and great battery life.

      Haha! “Very nice!” Yah it’s definitely a fun ride. I was surprised with the battery life at the end. Was almost tempted to try going up to one of the lookout points one more time haha.

      @@tomsgadgetgarage Haha! Yes another one that I quote too often. I'll bet that if it wasn't already 100F, you probably would have taken another zip up there! I enjoyed your Camelback Mtn route in your last video. I did nearly the same route about two weeks ago, early in the morning. Also did a lap around Mummy. Those roads are so fun. :D

      Haha! That guy is hilarious lol. Yah that route is very nice. No cars, very quiet, and excellent views. I just wish it was closer to me haha. I’ve taken my XP 3.0 on a range test through the Arcadia area and it’s such a great place to ride around in. I’m definitely going to head out there a lot more in the fall/winter. Can’t come soon enough haha.

      @@tomsgadgetgarage The guys and I quote his nonsense far too often.. haha. I grew up in the 80's racing road bicycles so we used Camelback, Mummy, and Arcadia as training grounds where we could get in a lot of miles and elevation. We would ride South mountain every week sometimes going up and down two or three times, then racing a Club Criterium event in one of the foothills parking lot at the bottom of the mountain. Your video locations often bring back those memories. It would be fun to tag along with you one Sunday when you go up there. I have a XP 3.0 that I picked up right after they went to hydraulic brakes, so happy to meet up for a bike ride sometime as well.

    100% aggree with you about the position of the regen break (and for me the throttle).
    I wish there was a way to swap the position of the cable break and regen/throttle.
    This would make pressing the buttons a bit easier as well.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  2 месяца назад

      For sure. I started using the regen brake more often on my rides by adjusting my left hand grip a bit. I think I’ve finally gotten used to it. I think extending the thumb pads in future iterations may help though. Or doing what you suggested.

      Those windy roads are always a blast, but only on Sunday mornings haha. I’ve gone up there on a Saturday with cars and unfortunately some folks think they are starring in Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift when going around those curves lol.

      @@tomsgadgetgarage Check out Palomar mountain. It's just north of San Diego. I used to ride sport bikes there. It's crazy on the weekends. There are some good videos of bikes going fast there.

    Hey, Tom. First of all great review! I'm thinking about getting this scooter. Would you recommend it to someone that weighs around 200lbs. You might have mentioned your weight in the video and I might have just missed it. Thanks!

      Hey Neil! Thank you! Really appreciate that :). I’m actually around 204lbs and it handles my weight very well. No issues getting me up steep roads.

    I was wondering, why don't you ever use the regen brake throttle? Isn't that easier than using the levers? I use the regen throttle mainly on my Apollo City and it makes things much smoother.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  2 месяца назад +1

      So I’ve been using it a lot over the last several days and it’s really effective. Just have to adjust my grip a bit. I have the regen brake strength set to 6/10 in the app now. Not used to more powerful scooters having regen haha. But now that I’m using it more I find it works great.

    • @willybaldy1999
      @willybaldy1999 2 месяца назад

      @@tomsgadgetgarage Awesome. What I found out watching your video is that the brake levers on the Punk are connected to the regen. On the Apollo City, for example, the brake levers have no connection to regen, you have no choice but to use the regen throttle if you want regen braking.
      The ultimate version of regen braking in my opinion would be to have the option to use single throttle for accelerating and braking, so that when you release the acceleration throttle the regen brake triggers. That's what my Niu KQi3 Max does, but having a dedicated regen throttle would give the rider the choice on how they want to use regen. Some people like me prefer a dedicated regen braking throttle because we like coasting, some other would rather use single throttle.

    • @danielandrews9767

      @tomsgadgetgarage Just getting setup on the app. You have to put your phone number in and they send you a code to get to the next step of creating your account. When I put in my phone number, I never received a code... so at this point, I'm stuck.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  Месяц назад

      Ah yes so try quitting out of the app and reopen and see if there’s an email verification option

    • @danielandrews9767
      @danielandrews9767 Месяц назад

      @tomsgadgetgarage I'll try that as well as a few other things. It's frustrating because once you don't receive the code and ask the system to resend another one, it makes you wait. Like seriously, I'm trying to access a toy scooter, not a bank account! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  Месяц назад

      Yah I got caught up in that but it ended up giving me an email option. Apparently Punk Rider is working on a proprietary app. Right now they are using a 3rd party solution which has some quirks.

      The wobble at high speeds has been resolved so thats a non issue anymore.
      Other problems like the scooter cutting out or changing modes on its own are most likely caused by loose connections in the stem due to how the handle bars atttatch.
      Tom got his attatched pretty easily but other users have had problems (I had to take the whole top assemly apart to get the cables down the stem).
      While I had the top apart I put a dab of hot glue and some electrical tape on the connectors so they wouldnt seperate and have had no issues with my scooter at all.
      And lastly, the bell might be touching the regen break. If it is, this can sometimes cause the break to stay engaged when you release it and this means the throtttle wont engage.
      This can easily be fixd by loosing the screw that holds the 'dome' part of the bell so it wobbles (That also improves the sound the bell makes).
      Its not a perfect scooter (I dont know if there is such a thing) but for its price and what you get, these little issues are easy to overlook (i.m.o).

      The Punk Rider Pro has a faster top speed, faster acceleration, and beefier suspension. Of course, it comes at a cost, and that’s more weight. Because it has more power, you have a greater ability of getting out of hairy situations. If weight isn’t a factor, it’s a darn good scooter for the price.

      Thanks for stopping by. I do things a bit differently on this channel. I cover many scooters and e-bikes in a very comprehensive fashion across a series of videos. Although it may not be up to your satisfaction, it's how I do things. I have another video on this scooter where I go in-depth on its features ruclips.net/video/gx6lXeQy2Cs/видео.html. Thanks for the feedback, and have an amazing rest of the week.
