      Did you tell everyone about the bad charging curve of the 4680s?

    I had a 2022 model 3 performance but moved to Converse (San Antonio) Tx and the roads were so bad I traded it in on a Ford Lightning Lariat long range. I love this truck.

      Those Lightnings have all the acceleration anyone really needs. Great performance, with a smooth ride.

    I drive a Honda Clarity PHEV. At the time it had the most range of all the PHEV at about 47 miles. It was also one of the if not cheapest one you can get that was relatively new. Back in 2021 I needed a new car and looked at many EVs and PHEV. The bolt was $36,000 at the time and the clarity was only $20,000. It didn't make any financial sense to spend almost double on a vehicle especially when I only travel about 15 miles a day. I was looking at used Chevy Spark EVs but they were about $12,000-$15,000 and the newest one was 2015. The clarity was 2018. If the Spark was about $8,000 I would have gotten it. I wish I waited to get the Bolt with the tax credit. I still get about 40-43 miles out of the 47 miles from the clarity so it's actually not that bad considering it's 6 years old with about 60,000 miles on it. I bet the battery will outlast the car considering I live in New York where cars rust within 15 years anyways.

    For the last case I think it’s worth looking at the BMW iX. Range and efficiency are superior to EV9 and any other electric SUV in that size category. Sub 20k miles are right around the $55k mark right now. Depreciation has already happened.

    Most of these dealerships only have a few EV techs and those techs don't only work on EVs. If the dealership is busy it can take well over a week before they can even look at your car. This has happened to me more than once.

    The only service issues we’ve had with our Ioniq 5 were unrelated to the EV drivetrain. Both were intermittent problems that failed to malfunctioned when the service technicians had it. The techs just shrugged their shoulders said “nothing we can do”. Not helpful when the driver’s window occasionally won’t close.

    Hey guys, thanks for the advice on not getting into a new model 3 performance haha. I will for sure stick with it and maybe check out a plaid in the future! I also have a R2 reservation (looking at the 0-60 in under 3 seconds) Or maybe just get one of the cheapest models and also get a used plaid 😁. Keep up the great work!!

    The Florida scenario seems a bit odd. Can someone who mostly uses level 1 AC charging really evaluate the DCFC's on his route as busy and unreliable without having used them? We leased a Clarity Electric BEV for 2.5 years - not going back to Honda after that experience.

    • @DriveElectricWithDomenick
      @DriveElectricWithDomenick 5 месяцев назад

      Curious what you didn't like about the Clarity BEV. Was it just about the short range?

    • @mikecarter2737
      @mikecarter2737 5 месяцев назад +2

      @DriveElectricWithDomenick Range was fine for us. Dealers were clueless. Charging incompatibilities with Signet and some BTC Power units. Had to turn back more than once. Car would constantly throw codes - 5 or 6 in a row and DCFC was disabled. Dealers would not let you use their chargers. American Honda Manager - "Honda does not warrant the vehicle to charge on the public charging network." End of show.

      @mikecarter2737 Man, dealers can be super unhelpful sometimes.
      Interesting to hear about the interoperability issues. I had a Chevy Spark EV with DC fast charging, but the two times I tried to used it, no go.

    33:45 Also, buttons. I will "old man yells at cloud" all day long about the overdone minimalism and lack of basic buttons for basic things.

    Brandan, charging infrastructure here in SW Florida is terrible. There is no DC fast charging in Bonita Springs, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, and Marco for OOS Dave. We do have many 7-Elevens, RaceTracks, and Circle-K locations, but none have added charging.

    I agree with Brandon- the truck bed is a waste of space.

    Yes, the Hybrid fits the daily driving, but whether his uses gas or not, maintenance is still required like any normal gas car. Shouldn’t that be considered in the calculation?

    • @StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney
      @StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney 5 месяцев назад +2

      True, but today's cars need very little maintenance. It's not like it used to be with tons of scheduled maintenance. I used to change spark plugs every 25K miles, now they are good for 100K to 150K. My dad's 2016 Accord with 110K has only needed about 15 oil changes & 5 cabin air filters besides tires and wiper blades.

    Florida has a robust charging network Tesla superchargers I’m sure there are multiple along his route and he only needs one stop.

    The Honda clarity is miserable to drive when the battery died

    • @chrisstoddard1144

      The key is to use HV mode whenever on the highway to save the EV mode for slower speeds. On the highway HV mode driving is just fine.

    • @michaelsmithers4900
      @michaelsmithers4900 5 месяцев назад

      Oh I know, I had one. I forgot once to put it in HV and ran the battery down and it was then the slowest car id ever owned and it won’t charge by hypermiling etc…

    C'mon---do you have an electric dryer? If yes-unplug it and use that when u can for 240 v charging. My 2018 Clarity with 170,000 miles in SoCal gets 60 miles EV at 55 mph, 45 miles at 75 mph---flat freeway. Regular gas---no premium gas. GOOD CALL GUYS---I WAS EXPECTING A TESLA SELL!!

      how much EV only range do you get? I am looking to get 2020 touring with 40k miles for around $22k. I can also get 8k off with used ev tax credits.

  • @CaryInVictoria

    I can't disagree with your conclusion but I don't understand the concern about avoiding a single stop to charge an EV on a 300 mile trip.

    • @Cyrribrae
      @Cyrribrae 5 месяцев назад

      I think the point was that this person says there's no possible place to charge along the way. If that's true, then it's true and it's a problem. It's not really a common situation for most people, though. But it can happen

    Why the heck are you recommending hybrids? What happened to charging on the way. We need to stop burning fossil fuels.
