@@lan6947 Hey Lan! To be honest I only use about an 8th of a tank at most. Depends on the weekend trips with the kids to their activities. Otherwise I'm really good at using only the batteries. I am halfway through my 8th tank of gas and I have over 18 000 km on it now!
As normal, comments are limited to pre-beliefs. So let me add real-world experience as my Clarity Plug-in has passed the 6,000 miles. It's an incredible engineer car and a relaxing, quiet driving experience. The real value is not how the car looks but how I drove 106 miles today, and my gas gauge didn't move. Like most days, my lunch stop will be next to a free charging station. About two days out of the week, I stopped for dinner on my way home, and that Mall also has a free charging station. If there were no charging station, the car would drive for a good 50 miles until the gas motor would smoothly turn on. Then this trip would use 1.3 gallons of gas, that would make it 82 miles per gallon.
You clearly don't know much about cars. This car is styled like crap and all the technology makes it a ticking time bomb. Honda lost its edge and took the fun out of the driving. I will stick to my 1981 Civic with 200k miles that I got by saving my welfare checks. Let's see your iPhone on wheels last that long.
I saw the question asked somewhere else, but I considering getting one, if you take a trip and dont have a charging station will the car's engine turn on and off without being charged? Like will it still run like a normal car?
Brittany Pete. You are correct, the engine comes on when the battery gets low and ya keep on driving. You never have to charge the car if you wish. It will just run like a normal hybrid. It's just nice to plug it into a garage outlet every night and use only electricity. It cost most folks 1/3 the cost of gas to do so. Away from home? Just fill it up with gas all the time and screw charging for the convenience.
I'm a shuttle driver for a Honda dealership,....and this car steers and holds the road just great. I don't know squat about motor vs. battery but this car is simply fun to drive.
Bought mine in January. I looked at several different vehicles and the only drawback with the Clarity was styling. I think the rear quarter panel is a little ugly and the front light bar is not my taste. But the car drives great, and at 2500 miles, I purposely used the first tank of fuel so that it wouldn't go bad. I added a few gallons which will last several more months. I'm using it as a work commute car and pretty much only electric. Solar panels provide the power. I traded in an Accord which I drove for over 10 years. I think Honda has built another great vehicle. So I won't be seeing you at the gas station.
Totally agree! I didn't buy it for the styling (I mean I've owned minivans for practicality; none of them are particularly handsome...). Fantastic quiet, luxurious, big sedan. Fits my family (three kids) easy, and I have put 14 000km on it and used maybe 150L of fuel! Only when I leave the city... Perfect for the boring but practical car we need every day. And I have my S2000 for the weekends! :) Good luck with it Tom!
Agree, during my test drive, the ride, and noise/vibration are far better than expected. Handling, I prefer the Accord Hybrid (which I drove back to back with Clarity)

It may seem you've got the prices wrong. I've seen reports Tesla is not selling any Model 3 BELOW U$49K, which would mean U$37K after incentives or ~ the same as a new Chevy Bolt EV MSRP BEFORE incentives (can be gotten cheaper even as new and even more as "slighly used"). Reason is Tesla will not sell the stripper level teased with the lower output battery and only sell the LOADED stuff (MSRP of levels available for order today starts at ~ U$45K before incentives). And there's a "no haggle" policy on that brand, so it really doesn't matter where you buy it in US.
I was pricing the Honda Clarity: $32500 (price my local Honda dealership would sell to me) - $7500 fed tax break - $ 5000 state tax break = $20,000. Elon Musk already made it clear in a tweet, if they sold Model 3 at $35k, it would bankrupt Tesla. Most reservation holder would never see the fed tax breaks.
If that U$20K after incentives was for the Clarity and not for the Model 3, that's STILL OVERPRICED for what it does for the average consumer (early adopters need not apply). Remember that this car (as well as with the Prius and every other gas hybrid) as a TRANSITIONAL TECHNOLOGY will SERIOUSLY DEPRECIATE as technology improves with the rightly specced mass market vehicles. Now you can all see how much of a PT Barnum ("there's a new sucker born every minute") Elon Musk seems to be as teasing a "U$35K car" that HE KNEW CLEARLY he would NEVER SELL AT THAT PRICE. Has serious computer error issue. Purchased car in January. The car has now been in the dealership for 14 days. On the dash screen up pops a continually rotating series of major component system failures including BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. The dealer tried resetting the computer but the error reappeared. The dealer states HONDA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAS NO FIX FOR IT YET. We were given a loaner car while our $40k Clairity PHEV sits in the dealership awaiting a fix . Contacted Honda corporate to find out what is going on & was told our case worker would call us back. That was over 4 hours ago, no call back. Please consider not buying this car until Honda has a cure for this problem. Honda should pull the car off the market until the problem is solved. How can any manufacturer sell a vehicle they know has a serious safety issue? Because I've not been informed of anything being done by Honda, other than going on every website I can to warn people about this car I am also going to file a complaint against Honda with the NHTSA.
The majority of car companies today punish us for wanting to buy and drive an electric vehicle, and this car is a perfect example of this. The front of the car is OK, but the sides and the back of the car is awful. This car COULD HAVE been great, but they messed this one up.
Happy ending! True green guys don't care much for looks, but will appreciate 47 miles on a charge, 42 MPG on gas, 340 miles of range, $7500 federal tax credit, and no range anxiety. Oh, and don't bother waiting for a $35k everyman's Tesla Model 3. It's already $42,500 without the federal tax credit, if it EVER makes it to market.
Neighbor got one of these. Super nice except it is a sedan. I want a 4 door hatchback, SUV, crossover or what ever they are called now days. 300 plus miles on a single charge is awesome.
Toning down the chrome strip on the front end would be an improvement but overall the front end is good looking. The rear quarter panels take a bit of adjusting toa...if you ever do. If you remember the original Insight, the rear end had the same type of styling so they apparently just wanted to carry that design cue over to the Clarity.
The nicest feature of the Clarity? It is widely available in ALL 50 states. Try to find a Ioniq PHEV or Prius PHEV in anywhere outside of the two coasts.
I really don't understand why this drivetrain isn't in the Accord (or CR-V, for that matter). Reserve the Clarity for the H fuel cell and EV versions. Ah! Maybe that's it - to achieve economies of scale in production, they felt they needed the plugin Clarity to amortize production. Maybe I do understand after all. Shame - I'd love to see a plug-in CR-V.
Canadians, Be wary of Honda! My family got burnt by Honda and Ford. Doug Ford. But mostly Honda. In March, I put a deposit on a Honda Clarity, a hybrid electric car. The salesman said he had "a good feeling it will be available by July" but could not guarantee it. I had a car charger installed for over 2,000 dollars. The Ontario government rebates would help pay for this and the car. Months went by. No car. Then, Doug Ford cancelled the electric car incentive. The car had to arrive by September 10th or no rebate for the car or charger. The dealership offered diversions about how the Clarity is "hand made in Japan" which is irrelevant (and implies a robot made Accord is inferior). It was an unhelpful boast, as was the claim the car really is worth 70K and Honda is losing money on each one. The dealership spun distracting yarns instead of addressing our concerns. September 10th, the last day to get the rebate. The car has not arrived. We were told it would arrive in February, eleven months after we ordered it. I am out over 2000 dollars for the charger and hundreds of dollars for car rental. The introduction to Honda’s Code of Conduct notes the company must "act with integrity to customers and society at all times. Failure in our duty to maintain sincerity would result in loss of the confidence and trust we have established over the years; a precious asset that would be extremely difficult to recover." Indeed. Honda’s 52 page Code of Conduct is an impressive document. The actual conduct of Honda has been extremely disappointing, falling far short of their stated ethical standards. Talk is cheap. But this misadventure has been very expensive for my family. Honda has taken us for a ride, but not the one I hoped for.
Thanks for the response, @@ronaldmail00. It may be the dealer. But Honda is ultimately responsible and should be able to deliver a car in six months! Again, thanks for your note.

Any update
I’m getting horrible range on mine wow for $40k this is not worth it
@@JRayM wow, convinces me more to get a full electric.
“Maybe the graphics guy can add some *insight”* 😂😂😂
This car is PERFECT as long as you don’t go to the HV mode... it turns suddenly to a tractor 🚜... I have it now
Probably my next car
Why the hate with the wheel cover in the back? Honestly it probably would've looked better if it was full fairing
Not the best design outside but when inside, its really good.
You Guys Did Edit This Video Great
Nice sense of humor.
Cool video ... super-plug-in-hybrid ! 👍
The majority of car companies today punish us for wanting to buy and drive an electric vehicle, and this car is a perfect example of this. The front of the car is OK, but the sides and the back of the car is awful. This car COULD HAVE been great, but they messed this one up.
what's the point of this car in front of the new Insight?
Insight is the civic size. Clarity is accord size. The accord has a hybrid still to offer a non pluggin option.
What happened to Zach?
ThreeSidedTriangle He left to be a full Honda guy and not a "unbiased journalist"
Why not get an insight when it looks and performs better?
them BEV zealots always try to demonise PHEV/hybrids but there is a reason why many would pick them as a daily driver vs a BEV...
It is 47 miles ev range for phev. People are getting 60 now
fun to watch the video.. will subscribe
The best Car that Citroen never made
And worse you know he has farted on that pillow
And the camera guys.
And probably the graphics guy.
Ivan Vojt and the dog to
battycowboy Smell it.
*Wait for honda insight or just take this .....?*
Depends if you want the extra room or the ability to plug in for a electric commute ability of the Clarity.
No comparison to Volt?
The nicest feature of the Clarity? It is widely available in ALL 50 states. Try to find a Ioniq PHEV or Prius PHEV in anywhere outside of the two coasts.
Not any more: I'm in MN, and I cant find one anywhere within at least two states in either direction.
in the long run, I still think fuel cell is a better solution to replace gas
Definitely a Chevy Volt upgrade, just hate the trunk! Hatchback would have been best.
Damn that music is sweet
Sounded like the dealer, not honda. But that is very unfortunate on the government side.
Thanks for the response, @@ronaldmail00. It may be the dealer. But Honda is ultimately responsible and should be able to deliver a car in six months! Again, thanks for your note.
I missed zach :(
That interior is so eye pleasing and huge against its competitors
It looks like a Halo Elite from the front. O.O
The lack of fueling stations across other regions of the U.S, seems to be a major drawback to this vehicle technology.
Huh, rain in Los Angeles. That's a good one.
Search Dane wigington expose illegal toxic weather modification programs . I’m 34, when I was young teens yes we would have a lot of rain out here . Air was cleaner and sky’s were blue and there was no electric cars and all this new stuff
Confused by the MPG. Can some explain lol
How does that $7500 tax credit work? The dealer didn't know and my tax guy isn't familiar with it either.
Long Beach! 😍
Honda needs to redesign their vehicles.I wouldn't get Honda simply because I find it ugly.I don't care about anything else as much.
5:45 when the acid kicks in...
How hard is it to make an electric car that doesn't look ugly ????
Everything is fine, but those fender skirts 😐
They are never going to grow on me.
3 years of ownership with barely visit to gas station, at 50000 mile now needs new tires, nothing else.
GASP
i only watch this video for Michah expression on his face..and I am not gay...LOL
