Way back in the day Bart was originally drawn and colored with a blue shirt. They changed it to orange to make it pop on TV, but didn't change it in the press kits or marketing materials
Also most merchandise is based on concept art anyways, because it takes so much time to make it that they cant wait for the Production to be finished.

Also, literally in this video when showing 1987 Simpsons, the clip is blue shirted Bart! I've also heard rumors that they didn't rush to make anyone change it because that was an easy way to tell what was a knockoff.

I had no idea the Simpsons costumes had such a deep history.
Fun fact: one of the Homer costumes Dan featured was used in an episode of L.A. Law wherein Dan Castelenetta, the voice of Homer Simpson, played a theme park Homer that was being sued by the theme park he worked at, staying in character in the costume until a certain point.

If I remember correctly, Bart wore a blue shirt at events and in merchandise was to easily catch any bootlegs appearing.

@@Ilsezwarts It was to easily identify what merchandise was not made or authorised by Fox, and take appropriate legal action. Of course now Bart wears his orange shirt in everything, but it was clever at the time to stop fraudulent products reaching the public.

The most confusing part about the 90's simpsons costumes to me are that back in the 1990's there was a Theme park named Boblo Island in my home town and they had the Homer and Bart costume, the history behind that park is hard to find these days since it closed september 30th, 1993. but there is footage from its final year in operation with a meet and greet with those Homer and Bart characters.
That Homer suit from the Hollywood Christmas Parade was used in the Season 7, Ep1 of L.A. Law. It featured Dan Castellaneta as theme park employee David Champion. That episode features this great quote that can sum up both voice actors & costume characters actors.
"(In Homer's voice) Nobody cares about the man inside. I know you think I'm a goofball, but the truth is, some of best years of my life have been playing Homer Simpson. Do you what's like having complete strangers, small children run up to you & hug you? To see their faces light up with joy? (Dan's voice) It's the greatest feeling in the world."

Blue shirt Bart is because the marketing "bible" that dictated to licensees how the characters were supposed to look had Bart in a blue shirt. That's why he's like that in all early Simpsons merch and so on.

Fun fact when the Simpsons movie was about to premiere and they were looking for different Springfield towns to possibly be the world premier destinations One of the runner ups was Springfield New Jersey however it did not have a movie theater so they sadly had to pick a different one I don’t remember what town one to do one of the special premieres even though you have photos of the wonderfully made Simpson costumes
Oh boy sure gonna be weird once we get Simpsons walk-arounds at Disney parks. Actually though given the Simpsons ride at Universal how exactly do these IP issues between the two parks and companies work?
Universal is supposed to lose the license to The Simpsons in a few years, so once that happens Disney will probably put The Simpsons into their parks

I remember that Simpsons traveling mall show, I saw it at the South Dakota State Fair in probably 1991 or 92. The Skinner costume was gimmicked with a removable hair piece, since the story revolved around Bart getting in trouble for stealing the principal's toupee. I don't remember any of the other costumed characters appearing in the version of the show I saw though except for Lisa, so they might have performed different stories depending on which characters were available/affordable to venues.

We've had over 30 years of Simpsons merchandise, and I swear that every single licensee and designer still curses Matt for Bart and Lisa's spiky hair. Anyone ever had the Bart PEZ dispenser, and how the top of his head was smooth, but the ridges around the side of his head were spiked? Same with a couple Bart plushies I've seen.

If i remember correctly, at least for merchandise, Bart’s shirt was blue for officially licensed products to differenciate it from bootleg products. bart was also supposed to have a blue shirt in general so they probably stuck with it for the costumes
Bart has a blue shirt on the Tracy Ulman show and lots of the early merch. Maybe the style guide show him in blue.
Also those 1990 Simpsons costumes were used for Dreamworld theme park in Gold Coast Australia in 1991 for a Simpsons live show.

There was an episode where the Homer Ice costume (and several extra heads) was used in the show L.A. Law and Dan Castellaneta was in the costume and outside the costume for the episode.
I’m pretty sure the costume was the Hollywood Parade costume instead of the Icecapades one.

I was lucky enough to meet Krusty the last time I went to Universal Studios in November of last year! He's my favorite character, so I was so excited to see him! (Bob was there too, but I really don't like him-he was not amused to see how happy I was about Krusty and how apathetic I was toward him) I told him that I was a big fan of his and that he was great at what he does(Bob shook his head "no"). There was a rope separating me and the characters since full character meet and greets weren't back at that time, so we did a "pretend" hug, and when I blew him a kiss he blew me kisses back!! (Bob facepalmed in the photo lol) He was really sweet and it was a very special moment for me(I also got to meet Homer and Bart that day too!). Now that full character meet and greets are back, I wanna go back and give him a proper hug and ask for his autograph!
I love how the Krusty costume actually can work as an in-universe mascot in the Simpsons’ world.
