My film cameras are 60 years old. My favorite doesn't even have a light meter. Very tempted to buy one of the Nikon film with auto features just to see. Would probably be interesting. And hey, I use The Darkroom. Even though I live near, I would use them if I lived on the east coast.

Good video. I recently came to a similar crossroads and reached the same conclusion. While there are certainly differences in output between film and digital, I found that my main attraction to film was the experience in using classic film cameras like my various Nikon SLRs and the Nikon SP. I made a conscious decision to operate my X-Pro 3 in manual mode and I've enjoyed using it much more since then. It's brought me much closer to my film experience. I do enjoy film but I'm content shooting a roll once a week these days. Anyway, it's great to see other people having similar thoughts! Thanks for the video!

I'm happy others are connecting with what I'm saying here. I absolutely love film but my digital photography works for me just fine. And it sounds like you're treating your X-Pro3 like how I treat my Fujifilm cameras. I approach them with the same mindset as I approach film photography and it definitely helps and inspires. Thanks for watching!

Hi Craig, love watching your videos, here you are a little more philosophical, talking about uses of resources, here in the UK we don't have too many worries about water usage. I too shoot digital and film. When it comes to film, my biggest worry is cost. Cost of processing and printing is high. I have several film cameras, all Canon. My favourite being my Canon 50E, which you did a video on a while ago, and you convinced me to buy one (and I love using it). I shoot black and white, not much colour. Film supply and manufacture is fragile, esp here in the UK. Thanks Craig, really deep thinking video.

Hey Rob! Thank you so much for your feedback and the kind words. I wish all of these factors that contribute to me shooting less film would improve, and maybe someday they will but it's the reality at the moment. That's awesome you have a 50E! Such an underrated camera. Thanks again for watching, for your kind words and for contributing to the discussion.

Great to get an update video on what's going on with you on film and digital. I also have a Nikon N8008 (the S version) and was wondering when you shoot manual focus lenses on it, do you use the focus confirmation dot or do you just use your vision to achieve focus?

Hey Russ! I use a combination of both the dot and my eye to lock focus. I love the clear viewfinder in this camera so that definitely helps. Thanks for your continued support! I appreciate it.

Hi Craig, just found your channel through recommendations. Do you enjoy photography or taking photos more? If it’s the latter, this video makes a lot more sense to me.

Hey Alex, thanks for watching! I guess I’d need to know how you’re defining “photography” as being different from taking photos before I give you a thoughtful answer. I’m short though, I love all aspects of photography, I love taking photos, working on those photos to make prints (whether it was in the darkroom or through digital post production and printing)

@@CraigBergonzoni Yes! The ambiguity and connotations to Photography makes me feel like I need intention, thought and all of this “stuff” that gets in the way of what I enjoy, taking photos. I have to constantly check myself to make sure that I’m not falling into the traps of modern photography culture. It’s cool to see that someone else is finding that some parts of the process are not necessarily as rewarding, and sometimes it’s best to find different ways to accomplish those parts. Great video!

@@DeeB1345 Exactly! I think even in the world of influential photographers of the past 100 years some have used visualization more to create their work and others have been reactionary, capturing what the world presents them. On a spectrum of photographers there is not one that is any more of a photographer than the other. The "group think" online moves in different directions depending on the trends and their definition of photography or a photographer constantly moves. Embrace what you enjoy and keep taking photos. Recognizing what you like and leaning into that puts you ahead of most people and you'll end up making your best work.
