    For me it's three combos:
    - for portraits - an adapted projection lens on Pentax 6x7, Super Prominar 114/1.8
    - for vlogs and general use (and portraits) - an adapted Canon 50/1.2 LTM on a Sony A7II
    - for streetphoto - an adapted Tamron 24/2.5 on a Yashica FX-3

    Haven't finished the video yet but 100% agree on the 6x7/67 vs 67 II - and as an additional bonus you have much less electronics to worry about. My old 6x7 ex studio workhorse is still working beautifully.

    3 way head is a must with the 4x5, I had been ball heading it for a while and upgraded to a 3 way head and man it makes getting exactly what you want so much easier and pain free.

    I picked up the same Compagnon backpack after seeing it in Germany and then seeing your video about it. It could very well be the best 'accessory' that I've ever purchased! Absolute gamechanger for hiking and such

    Field 4x5, still kicking myself for selling my Speed Graphic. Now, just have an Italian oddity, the Silvestri for shooting 6x12 or 4x5 in a pinch.
    6x7 is Graflex XL with 58mm 80mm 100mm 150mm 180mm and 270mm. You can use the Rangefinder for quick shots, or a ground glass hood for shooting like a view camera.
    Lee Marmon, Laguna Pueblo photographer famous for 'White Man's Shoes' sold his Pentax 67 system at a local processing shop here in Albuquerque. $700 IIRC, and I was tempted. I shoot the Pentax 645z 50mgpxl and take full advantage of the legacy glass from the 645.

    Very nicely done review. I've never tried the Horseman field 4x5, but their massive L45 monorail is an amazing camera--the build quality is superb, and as you say, locks down so solid and precise. Great job on this and the other videos, I'mv very glad to have found them.

    I have figured out the tool needed to remove the focusing screen pins in the Pentax 67. My chain broke and was unable to find someone local to repair. Thus forcing me to complete the repair myself. The focusing screen is quite easy to replace too.

      i would like to add in regards to accessories, several years ago while hunting light meters on ebay i found an, at the time uncommon light meter (sekonic dual spot F model L-778) bought it and shortly after had intermittent issues, went on forums and realized others had issues. the part (brain) to resolve is no longer available. paperweight, they are now very common from japan buyer beware

    If you are looking for a 105mm with a very large image circle (and thus 'unlimited' movements on 4x5), consider the Fuji SW 105mm f8. It's double the price of the CMW but well worth it coz it has a 250mm image circle so you can use it on 5x7 and 6x17, if you ever decide to foray into those formats.

  • @tylerhuttosmith
    @tylerhuttosmith Год назад +1

    A simple solution for the magnifier might be a piece of cardstock cut in the shape of the maginfier and gaff tape to attach it. Feel like it would be quick, easy, and cheap

    Another great video Kyle. You should get some spikes for that Gitzo tripod though. They really do make a difference in eliminating vibrations, as the vibrations go directly into the ground instead of the camera. Especially when using your Pentax 67 with that giant flapping shutter.

    Hi Kyle, it's serendipitous that you discussed the 55-100, as I was just looking into getting this lens the as my primary landscape lens over the last two days. Googling it provided surprisingly little in the way of commentary and image samples however - seems under the radar? Did you have any particular sources that helped to learn more about it? Or are there images or photo sets of yours that are mostly shot with it? Thanks!

    • @KyleMcDougall
      @KyleMcDougall  Год назад +1

      I actually couldn't find much about it either, but the few reviews that I did, people praised it. I haven't used it that much yet, but when I have, I've been very happy with it. Definitely don't feel a need to get the primes.

      I feel like it's a mixed bag with any film camera. I had no issues with my 67ii, and this current 67 has also been great. But I did buy an older 6x7 that had an issue with the film advance. Bit of a roll of the dice with this older gear.

    • @kingappia
      @kingappia Год назад

      You’re talking about 30+ years old camera, so obviously they could need some CLA now of then. Some common issues are mirror stuck and frame spacing. However I have my 67 since 2015 and I have changed the ttl battery only once 🤞🏻

      @@KyleMcDougall Yeah, I was looking at an H16 but can't justify the cost. I did just realize I can adapt EF lenses to the Keystone A9, so I'm going that route. I already own a Samyang 10mm F2.8 and 16mm F2, so it'll be interesting to see the footage with those vs the stock 16mm which hasn't been great. Cheers.
