  • Some photographers online to criticize others for simple photos or photos that don't meet some preconcieved idea of a great photo and the fear of this criticism paralyzes a lot of beginning and hobbyist photographers. In this video I give you 4 reasons (and more thoughts) on why you shouldn't worry about taking "BORING" photos and in fact embrace it. This is one of those subjects that doesn't matter if you're shooting film in a Leica M6 or shooting digital on an iPhone or Leica M11 or Fujifilm X-T100V. I love exploring these subjects and I hope you enjoy this video. Consider subscribing and joining my channel memberships.

Hi Craig, I recently aquired an Olympus C8080. I've been shooting boring. Using the C8080 I've been shooting the objects on my bedside cabinet. The light that falls from the lamp creates moody shadows and wonderful colours.
Doing this 'boring' photography is teaching me how to handle the C8080 and the tricky lighting, the shadows and the tricky highlights. The contents of my bedside cabinet changes over the week/month. I agree with everything you speak of in this video. Yes I've even shot coffee cups and other mundane objects around the house. Repetitive shooting does improve your skill in understanding light and shadows and how to add character to the so called mundane.
Thanks again Craig for another insightful video.
    Regards Rob (UK)

Hey Rob! That's so cool about your Olympus! And that's great you're embracing all of those kinds of photos. Some of those simple things can make some really cool photos that people take for granted. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment! Much appreciated.

Thank you! That means a lot. This style of video in which I try to be as natural as possible is the only I’ve been able to so make my videos and not seem fake or insincere. Not everyone gets it though so I truly appreciate the feedback.

Hey Craig, great video, i wish this advice had been given to me when i started my photography journey. Even now this video is so insightful for me. I think you're right about embracing all of our images. Most of my images never really makes sense and dont have the so called 'story' i iust see something i like and capture it. The other month i took a picture of a very 'boring' bench in the park and it ended up being published in canon magazine, so just shows that these boring images can lead to great things and teach us ways of making something come across more interesting.
Really enjoyed what you said about the time capsule too. Its so true, i love looking back at old pictures from 60+ years ago and seing how towns and places have changed.
Anyway ive rambled too long. Love this one Craig, great work!

Kudos to you on another thought provoking video! IMO, shooting all kinds of photos, even boring ones are a great way of finding out what your favorite subject to shoot is. As we've all heard before we all do our best work when it's something that we are passionate about... even if that means pet photography ;-)
