I bought mine primarily to take pics when I walk my dog. It allows one handed use and very small package. I love it and am blown away from its results, extremely sharp lens, great b&w profiles and nice dng files, great sensor, ibis, built in ND filter. I did buy a JJC thumb grippy and metal tube extension to allow filters and stops the dust issue, which will happen at some point. This is now one of my most favoured and used cameras👍😀
Check out this video which taught me this setting! This guy creates excellent videos about this camera and photography in general. I’d suggest watching the entire video, but the “2.8 Mode” is around the 3:10 mark: ruclips.net/video/ycEOE8Avglk/видео.htmlsi=Pc4mNmtUYfN3ujvi
I'm considering a pocket sized camera because I've noticed over the years in my own phones and my friends that almost with every phone update the camera gets a little crappier. So I think I'm not spending money on fancy phones anymore and im going to stick a real camera with a serious sensor in my pocket and not worrying about the phone for much maybe max lightroom mobile. just not sure which camera yet
I think you should! I think anyone who wants to take photos with intention ought to have a dedicated pocket camera-at least. I’m obviously a fan of the Ricoh pocket cameras but you should also look into the Sony RX100 series cameras as well!
I wonder if the Ricoh GRiiix is for me. I just purchased one. I am struggling with setting this thing up. I do street photography and I think many GR users are in that camp. The other camp is as an EDC for those with big rigs like you. Besides the camera fighting me as ai try to set it up, I know I will struggle with not having an EVF. I knew this going into GR world. Simply stated, I’m an EVF user for composing. I hope I can get into the one handed point and shoot mode so many GR users use. I am digging the high contrast B&W mode. Very contrasty. Crunch those blacks. Very sharp lens. Who doesn’t love the size and low weight? Battery life? Wasabi batteries are cheap. Carrying a couple extra batteries comes with the small and lightweight body. I bought mine from craigslist for $700. For a body and lens that is an OK price. I am hoping to love the GR. As suggested, this thing is resisting being set up for everyday use. I’m hoping to resolve this issue. There are a lot of Ricoh GR fans. They all can’t Be wrong. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Love this comment. I will say that the setting up and familiarizing aspect of this camera is a challenge, at least was for me. There is a RUclipsr named Adrien Sanguinetti who goes into detail on how he sets this up, I suggest diving into some of his Ricoh videos, I essentially use his set up method. As for the lacking EVF I totally understand your apprehension. I will say though that you DO adapt. There are a lot of "spray and pray" moments, and thats exactly where the snap auto focus comes into play. Like you, I use the high contast B&W mode as well and actually use this camera as my daily black and white documentation/capture. I am going to make a video on here why I use it this way. I hope you get to enjoy this camera :)
The learning curve and muscle memory take a long time. I also struggled a lot in the beginning, but now I have it configured with some settings I never even imagined. For example, in U1, I can access to half-press = focus and compose, full-press = snapshot with hyperfocal, back button switch to tracking autofocus, screen touch = focus and shot. If I turn from U1 to U2, I will get an autofocus zone with eye/face detection , and with U3, I will jump to the focus by zones. That way, I have practically immediate access to six methods of focusing in just a matter of fractions of a second.
You have some secret sences, I have 3 old Pentax and just when I wanted a new camera I thought Pentax (Ricoh) was dead, I found this. I bought it just now. I hope I will like it. =) Great video =)
I just HATE that they’re milking the 3. I’ve been waiting to get one for a year and I know the 4 will come out eventually. It’s a 1500$ CAD camera, I’d be furious to buy a 3, and a handful of months later, the 4 comes out……
The 3 is already pretty sweet. Just think about all the pictures you missed because you were waiting for the 4. The 3 will still perform good and wont be obselete.
I also coudn't agree more with this suggestion! I have really tried to stop waiting to either afford gear or for new gear to arrive. The GR3X is a truly capable system for years to come despite its few quality of life features it may lack. I released a video a few weeks back titled "Stop Waiting" about this very thing! Thanks for watching.
What a breath of fresh air, the massive Klieg light turned down to a candle flicker. Humans speaking to humans. Thanks. Currently shooting on A7C and X100V, but I've been looking at the GR3 (X) for years now and this video was very helpful in moving the needle a bit. Much appreciated. Keep up the great work. Minimalist and authentic, clear messaging, insightful, warm Nashville-style plain-speaking charm and tongue-in-cheek fun. What's not to like? I'm in.
Thank you for your kind words! Very thoughtful. I would like to maintain a direct, everyday man's style with my videos no matter how big the following gets, because that's just me. Also, even though I love my GR3X I am still pretty curious about the user experience of the Sony X100V. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Probably a sharper lens and better dynamic range. But as he said it mostly depends on the kind of experience you're after. I have a Pixel phone which takes nice pictures but I only use it for casual photography.
Not making the case that it is! Modern cell phones are great tools, but as I mentioned in the video I just prefer a dedicated camera for my photography as it makes it feel like more of a priority to me and not so much of an afterthought. Whatever works for the shooter!

Awesome! For me, it’s all about that one handed use. I was walking around the city the other day doing just that-felt like a ninja
I have had a 3x for 2 years. Its been sitting for a while but its so good i can't let it go. Even though i have 2 Fuji's that are my favorite.
You just know when you have a great piece of gear! I don't see myself parting ways with mine, probably ever
Your first video and you are already in my recommended section!
Amazing! Thank you for the support!
@4:20 Could you tell me how you set that up? I can´t figure it out on my GRIIIx. Awesome video, keep it up!

Loved your little overlays. "Psssssh!" And "Technically"
Haha! It’s all about the little things

I'm getting mine next week. Can't wait to use it.
Heck yes!
Kept it real, to the point ajd super informative - thank you
Thank you! Glad you think so :)
My EDC is now my a6400 with the sigma 18-50 2.8. So small and light.
I absolutely love the 6000 camera line. I first owned the 6400 and I honestly regret selling it. That Sigma 18-50 is a dream.

You mean with actual acceptable video capabilities? 🤣
This is my Contax T3 replacement
It’s a great little tool!
"True!" Thank you.
Thank YOU
Great video. Tight and right
Very helpful. Thank
Thank you! Will make more videos about my experience with the camera this year :)
I’ve been wanting to get something like this.

DUDE. Couldn't agree more with your feelings about the milked up version of the three...

Great vid!
This thing looks pretty sweet
And it is!
Why is this better than a modern iPhone?
Probably a sharper lens and better dynamic range. But as he said it mostly depends on the kind of experience you're after. I have a Pixel phone which takes nice pictures but I only use it for casual photography.

I like your video. Legit.
Subscribing.
Thank you so much! New here but aiming for quality.
Tight!!
This is great
Thank you :)
