I just love it that RUclips continues to promote content that is not very popular. I am so glad I came across your channel and now I want a Ricoh even more than ever😅 But I can’t complain because I have an Olympus EP5 with a pancake lens
Ahh I appreciate the kind words:) Lol I love the Ricoh, I hear great things about the Olympus cameras though! That's one of the few brands I have yet to try. It feels like such a classic camera brand.
@ it’s a great camera system for sure. I recently sold all of my Fuji cameras and lenses and Wendt top-tier with the Olympus OM1-ii . The pro lengths are simply amazing. And all of this started with the EP5
It’s definitely a game changer for my “photography away from photography”. The times when I’m not on photography mode and going about with daily life but presents a special moment. Great vid.
What a wonderful gift!!! My husband got my a Sony RX100 mk3 for a wedding present and same thing, it changed my relationship to photography and meant I could leave my Canon DSLR at home as usual but still take photos 🤣 Thanks for reminding me to put the pocket cam back in my pocket!

I absolutely love this new RUclips algorithm lol. Would've never gotten the chance to see this video otherwise. Great video. Will be buying my Ricoh GRIII in Japan 2 weeks from now. So excited
You are too kind:) Ahhh you're going to love it! If you're into street photography videos, there is a guy on RUclips who specifically uses the Ricoh GRIII in Japan, and the videos are so peaceful. I think his name is Adrien Sanguinetti. Best of luck with your trip!
@@EliGreiss Thank you! I'll definitely check him out. I love street photography videos, thanks for the recommendation. Wishing a great 2025 for you and your family!

@@EliGreiss the drama was great 😂 I agree! I never regret when I bring it either. That's a great way to remind myself it's worth the extra weight. Thank you!
@@hayleyrawlingson6917 No😂I hate how expensive they all still are. Especially for something that fits in your pocket. They are supposedly releasing a new model in 2025, so hopefully the prices on this one go down some
My goal is to carry around my new fuji x-t50 as much as I can, for all the same reasons! I'm enjoing it so much more than my old camera that felt uninspiring.
I feel the same way about my Nikon Z30. It'll be a year soon since I got it. I think it's a very underrated alternative to the Ricoh in that, while it's not as pocketable, it's way cheaper and offers just as good image quality. I never leave home without it.
That's awesome! I've had a few people ask about a cheaper alternative to the Ricoh, and I haven't known of a good camera to refer to them. I'll check out the Nikon Z30. Thank you:)
I bought this camera to replace my iPhone camera 2 years ago. I also have a Fuji but I wanted something that I can put in my jacket pocket. I’ve been editing using Lightroom and I just can’t do that with my iPhone photos. Yes, I can but i don’t like the result. But I discovered recipes and started shooting Jpegs only. This camera made me love taking g random photos again.
You should add commission links for the product to your videos. I definitely went to look, and it would be a great way for you to earn more. Just a tip! Great videos.
Hey! I've read about the dust issues quite a bit, and it seems like a pretty common problem. I personally have't experienced any dust issues, but I keep my camera in a shoulder sling 99% of the time. A lot of the people who mentioned dust issues had put the camera directly into their pocket. Hope this helps!
Thanks! I use the Monterey Sling from Moment and Long Weekend. Here's the link: www.shopmoment.com/products/long-weekend-monterey-sling?variant=47464309457211&srsltid=AfmBOoqBMOD2v40Yz_WWiX7FhSKDE8yEBPSDbO6OCjbal08uRJe2kRAt
My man, as a GR owner and someone who once had to pinch pennies, either carry the GR in that sling, wrap it in a cloth/sleeve, use the lens cap religiously, or put a filter system on the lens so you don't get dust in it. Mine has been fine over the years, but I never raw dog my pockets. Many people find that the dust gets in real fast and then your images will be a pain to fix.
I completely understand. This camera is legitimately my baby and gets carried in the sling 99% of the time. I've read horror stories about the dust getting in the sensor, so I'm a little too scared to put it right in my pocket. I appreciate your feedback. Next time I'll try to do a better job of accurately displaying how I use it. Thanks for checking out the video:)
Those photos turned out amazing! Really natural composition. I agree, size does matter😂 As my rig has gotten bigger, it’s made me want a smaller handheld camera on the more spontaneous trips. If you haven’t done so already, I’d be curious on what other cameras/tools you have👀
Thanks Caed! I appreciate it:) Haha I felt a bit silly including the size joke but it would've been a missed opportunity if I didn't mention it. I definitely feel that. The bigger my professional camera rig has gotten, the more I appreciate having something small to bring with me for daily trips. I'll work on putting together a video that goes over some of my other gear. Thanks for the great idea!
She chose the IIIx by accident, but it was the one I wanted so it worked out:) I'm not the best at photographing wide compositions and I like focusing on smaller moments, so the tighter focal length seemed nice to me.
very cool video, thanks, genuine question though: is the final quality better than what you would get with a latest iphone camera sensor? can we not achieve a similar kind of old film effect with existing apps within the iphone ecosystem?
Thank you for the kind words:) Honestly, I genuinely think good editing with an app and using your phone camera can produce some pretty amazing photos that definitely compete with the Ricoh. I just get super distracted on my phone, so I like to have a device dedicated solely to photos. There are some people out there whose iPhone photos put my professional camera photos to shame😂
Getting some Gawx vibes with the editing. Glad RUclips is recommending your stuff. Always wanted a GRIIIx but it's still so expensive even if buying used, lucky you!
You have no idea how much that means to me. Gawx is one of my favorite filmmakers:) Thank you for the kind words. I completely understand. It's wild to me that these cameras are as expensive as they are. There's a rumor that a new GRIV will be launched in 2025, so hopefully the GRIII prices drop too!
If I go out to take photos I take my Canon APS-C, but when I go for a walk or do other things I like to take my Sony point and shoot and there are many photos that I would not have taken because it was not convenient to carry a larger camera. And if I put photos of the two cameras side by side you can only tell them apart by the depth of field.
Hey! Off the top of my mind, there isn't a specific one I can think of. There are so many cameras out there though that I'm sure there's one that would work. I'll do a little research and see if I can find one:)
Been trying to use my newest camera more (latest, hottest thing). So far, each time I take it out I keep saying out loud, "Wish I had my Ricoh instead." It's a great camera.
I feel that! I'll take my Canon with me sometimes and I'll find myself wishing I didn't have to lug it around. The Ricoh is just so easy to take with me and get a photo I'm happy with.
I feel that! I've been using the Osmo Pocket 3 lately for everyday video. It's a great little camera, but it's not quite the solve for video that the Ricoh was for my photography. I plan to use it until it dies and then hopefully in the next 4-5 years there is a better everyday carry video camera. I've heard some people say the Fuji x100v has decent video.
I've had the gr3x for about a year now, and even though I do agree about how nice and practical its form factor is, the dust issue has prevented me from using it the way I would have liked (putting it in my jeans pocket last summer for example). As for image quality, it can do the job, but not in an outstanding way, the images it produces are thin, with sand like details rendering, its ISO noise really grungy (certainly not usable as a grain like substitute) and like your pictures show, shadow details are basically lost under a certain threshold...Overall, despite a few shots I really like, I'm not sure I'll keep it. It's another overrated camera, and a very pricey one, whose ergonomy isn't great either in my opinion, despite the customization options.
That's a totally fair criticism. I've heard horror stories about dust getting in the sensor from keeping the camera in a pocket, so I typically carry it in a sling that I keep clean. Hopefully it keeps the dust issue away for a while. I completely agree with you on the high iso noise. If I shoot with this camera in the evening, I have to heavily lean into the vintage editing style because there is so much noise. It's been great for my needs, but I can definitely see how you'd be unhappy with it. Someone else mentioned the Nikon Z30 as a cheaper alternative. I've never heard of it but it might be worth checking out! Thanks for stopping by:)
videographer, editor... but your editing is so annoying what is the point of you reaching over to the camera and zooming in on yourself as you're talking? there is no need to make your face take 80% of the shot. I clicked to hear what's up with that camera, not to count your nose hair
