    I'd try holding the camera differently to get closer shots. You're holding it like a DSLR so you stick out. Use it in snap mode at 2m and hold the camera closer to your body. Quickly compose while walking and press the shutter. Don't stop or be obvious. Never look at the subject. If you're caught, just keep panning the camera upwards like you're shooting a seagull :)

    The GR III, often considered the sleeper camera that many GEN Z sleep on lol. When it comes to getting up close to people's faces, it can feel a bit intrusive, especially in 2023, especially if you're not in a crowded city area. In such locations like Jollla, setting up your shots and waiting for subjects to wander into the frame can be a better approach. Just have the confidence to as you are capturing the scenery. Be the three that is already there and provides a shade to those who wander 😂. Also just heads up I think the GR has a 70 or 75mm converter if you want to be able get that “close up”

  • @Randuski
    @Randuski 11 месяцев назад +1

    The best tip I can give you for getting closer to people, is to just do it 🤣 I remember what it was like when I first started getting into street, it was terrifying. But you kinda just go for it. Try to have a compliment or something kind to say ready if they notice you, and also have a kind smile. Generally most people are fine to deal with haha it also helps a lot to start practicing this during big events, where people are taking pictures already. Then it’s almost expected and they react perfectly fine. Being sneaky stealthy about it can get you into some awkward situations if they catch you. Why hide it if you’re not doing something bad? But yea it just takes practice to get used to it 👍🏻

    Brilliant shots and the colors are absolutely gorgeous! I knew about the size and the well touted image quality, but did not appreciate the world of film simulations that are offered with this small wonder. I hear you mention the 28mm fixed focal length but I think the camera comes in a close to 50mm (40mm) variant, if you had to do it again would you opt for that focal length over the 28mm?

    • @BrayGrayy
      @BrayGrayy  5 месяцев назад +1

      I probably would get the 40mm. The focal length I typically default to is 50mm, so that would make more sense for me.

    • @Cthames123
      @Cthames123 5 месяцев назад

      @@BrayGrayy I hear you. I am a 50mm person myself, (…and honestly a 24mm and a 90mm person as well!). 40mm is close to a middle ground between 35 and 50, with the biggest draw back in my mind being selfies are out of the question. I wonder if one can get an easily modified third party adapter to apply focal length magnification without compromising quality to this Rico Gr iii fixed lens camera.

    Hey! Enjoyed this video. I’m picking up a used GRIII as an EDC and I’m looking forward to using it. What gives me pause is the 28mm equivalent focal length vs the 40mm equivalent in the GRIIIx. Like most, I live mainly in that 35mm-50mm focal range so this will be a challenge. But for my use case, I’d prefer the slightly wider FOV for (indoor) scenes with friends and family.

    • @BrayGrayy
      @BrayGrayy  29 дней назад +1

      Nice! The Ricoh GRiii is a great little camera. It does give you the option to crop in to 35mm and 50mm equivalent, but I wouldn't bother with the 50mm crop because you lose so much resolution. The 35mm is fairly usable though.

    • @atxrich
      @atxrich 27 дней назад

      @@BrayGrayy I just got the Ricoh today and I am blown away how good the IQ is out of camera. The camera came with the Pentax AF201FG flash and it complements it perfectly. It's wild having such a large sensor in such a little body. It's going to be a great little EDC.
      And yes, the 35mm crop mode works great. It definitely validated my decision of going with the GRIII rather than the GRIIIx.

    My tip for getting close to people would be, dress nice (people won`t mind you if you look sharp), loose the yellow ring and replace it with the black one (the yellow circle will draw undesired attention to your camera hence people noticing it). act relaxed and be candid.

    cant you apply the image filter afterwards? is there any reason to shoot as JPEG with image recipe vs shooting raw and applyuing the recipe after?

    • @BrayGrayy
      @BrayGrayy  2 месяца назад +3

      Yes, they're basically the same thing. The question is do you want to edit the images before (recipes) you take them or after (RAW editing). With recipes you should be able to take your photos and share them quickly because the edits are already applied. However, I'd recommend shooting RAW +JPG so you get the choice if you want to use the pre-edited JPG now or edit the RAW later.

You are a creator I'd follow as much as Casey Neistat. I hope you continue to do a fantastic job - 10 out of 10 story telling and presentation. If I can be so bold to ask; Who are your inspirations, if any, when taking photos--or is there a UX designer that influences your work?

Can you comment on the level of lens distortion that is introduced? I would imagine shooting raw turns off any software distortion compensation the camera may apply to correct the image. Is barrel distortion an issue with raw photos?
