      Fantastisch settings for streetphotography. It works for me to take pictures on the move and without being to visible. Do you have settings for filming with the x-t4 also?

    Oh man, what a super useful video, Joe! I’m so glad you addressed settings that I find often go overlooked in other videos I’ve seen.
    Interestingly, there are quite a few similarities between your X-T4 setup and how I have my X-T3 set up!
    When I shot Nikon, I was very much a “set it and forget it” type of shooter, which prevented me from really getting the most out of my camera because I couldn’t be bothered to menu dive to make a simple change. Shooting Fujifilm has completely changed my style, because it’s so easy to make quick changes on the fly with all of the manual controls and extensive options in customization.
    Cheers!!

    • @joeallam

      Ah that's good to know! Fujifilm had an immediate impact on my shooting style when I first used one, and now I really struggle with adjusting things on other brands. I do know that some people really struggle with Fujifilm though, so it really does depend on the operator.

    When adding the Fuji XT-3 in my arsenal, coming from Sony, I did realise that with Fuji it is more appealing to shoot full manual. I feel that because these cameras are designed with the film cameras in mind they are actually suposed to be used in manual mode. So the aperture or shutter speed priority modes here are actually a little confusing. Anyways, cheers for the content!

    • @joeallam
      @joeallam  2 года назад +6

      Yeah, I love how tactile the settings feel each time on Fuji. For example, I know that if I'm adjusting the lens, it's _always_ going to be the aperture. On other systems, in manual my top dial is for shutter, back dial for aperture, yet when in aperture priority suddenly that top dial is for aperture. If I'm not careful, I can make adjustments without noticing the initial mode I'm in. With Fuji, just set any (or all) of the dedicated dials to A and the camera will do it automatically. It's definitely a very flexible hybrid style of modes which I love! So when I say "aperture priority" mode on Fuji, what I'm saying is my shutter and iso dials are both set to Auto and my control is mainly with the lens ring.

    • @DavidFamous
      @DavidFamous Месяц назад

      @@joeallam I see the appeal on both ends here, and im currently enjoying all manual, the "priority" mode is interesting though, feels like a point and shoot set up for fuji

    I have been shooting with Fuji cameras for many years now, and I still think their "modes" make more sense than anything else. Beautiful video and explanations, thank you for that! The one thing that I could never get used to is the Capture Clip, to me the way the camera hangs on the backpack strap feels really awkward. But as I do not shoot video, a regular Peak Design strap is all I need :)

    • @joeallam
      @joeallam  2 года назад

      I agree! It felt very natural to me when I first started using them. The only thing that slowed me down initially was the focus point selection, because I used to be super rapid with the point selection on Canon; but I think that was because there were less points to choose from back then. Capture clip can be an odd one, but I think you have to have it much higher on your strap than what you initially think. Then it sits closer to your shoulder and doesn't weigh down as much.

    I agree 100 percent with the D-pad. It's so useful to have quick access to a lot of functions like flash photography settings. The X100V body as a whole feels better than the X100F, but removing the D-pad was a huge mistake. So I keep the F, it's still a great camera. Do you plan to buy any of the new lenses like the 18 mm, 23 mm or 33 mm f1.4?

    hang on... you use AF-L with AFC to lock your focus? I thought AFC is Continuous so that button would make the camera keep looking for focus since it is in AFC.

    • @joeallam
      @joeallam  2 года назад

      Holding the AF-L button should lock the focus regardless of the AF mode it's in. There was once a bug on my X-H1 that meant it didn't always work properly which was highly frustrating, but it's been fine on my X-T4. I think there may even be a few different AF-L buttons you can choose in the button customiser, depending on whether you want to toggle or hold the button. I haven't got the camera to hand right now to double check, so I hope I'm not mistaking that with another camera...

    Fujifilm AWB is a disaster of green magenta shift for me. I stick to Kelvin or the built in presets. I can always warm up or cool down a little in post - even on the jpeg.
    If you like a warmer look, the X-T1 generation was about click warmer on the kelvin before they switched it for the X-T2. It's got Classic Chrome, and arguably nicer tonal roll on account of the smaller dynamic range. If Ellie still has her X-T10 kicking around, I recommend giving it a whirl.
    Unrelated, but your hair and skin looks better, man. Probably all that good food, natural air, and sunlight. I swear England is cursed to make translucent cave newts of us all if we don't get off the island. It's like having the one ring for too long. Looking healthy is what I'm saying. ✌️😂

    I wonder how accurate your auto focus lock button is, as I’m curious to know the percentage of out of focus shots if the first focus wasn’t sharp to begin with?
    Finally you never even mentionen the autofocus custom settings? I prefer number one, because it seems to give me the most consistent results. I also use single mode, because it’s a little faster on the focus. I also use the focus limiter to speed up some of the slower lenses.

    Well done informative video. Regarding focusing: I have the camera (Xpro2 with 23f2 usually at f8) in manual and use back button focus so the camera doesn't refocus when I recompose. Might your using the 35f2 at f2 - f5.6 limit your ability to use back button focus?

    • @joeallam
      @joeallam  2 года назад

      Cheers - I tried back button focusing for a while many years ago when I used Canon, but always found that I preferred to use the button to _hold_ my focus rather than _activate_ it. I've just carried on that mentality with my Fuji setup and it works well for me.

      It usually takes time for the Clarity setting so I set mine to zero, and do it in post. Or putting the camera on any burst mode will disable any clarity setting. On days when I feel like taking it slow, I just embrace the processing time as if it's "winding film".
