  • These are my camera settings for the Fujifilm X-T5, but what you'll find is that these settings can be applied to a lot of other Fujifilm cameras, old and new. These are settings for how I like to approach street photography. They won't necessarily work for you, but if you need a place to start hopefully this can help.

    OMG that drive lock thing is a life saver! I can't remember how many times I've had my camera (X-T3 before and now X-T5) in the bag and the drive mode dial had moved to something other than single shot and I only noticed it after taking one shot. This video is really helpful, thank you for making it and thank you for using such a chill background music that makes taking on the information easier with the calm environment.

    This video has been immensely helpful! The combination of AF-C and tracking AF works really well on my X-T3. I won't have to fiddle with my focus point on the street anymore. Thanks so much :)

    One thing I really like about Fuji is how you can turn on or off information around the screen. A few weeks ago I almost switched to Sony and one of the things I immediately missed was this ability. They do have a button to switch between view modes, some with LOTS of info and some with minimal info. But the ability to just turn off individual things is so nice!

    • @Magneira

      Indeed, but that's because Sony is not a brand who cares for the experienced and enjoyment of photography, only the results.

      Really good tip tolock the exposure compensation dial, willdo that on all my fujis. So many times Ive taken the camera out of the bag and that button have been turned by accident. Agree, with the idea of having a physical lock on that button. I have tried to setup my cameras similar to each other and I tend to run out of buttons. That D pad button is my favourite,

    I've been shooting with Fuji for many years now - but I've learned a lot again today! Above all, I think your tip on how to block functions is fantastic (even if it doesn't work consistently, e.g. not with the dials). I'm definitely in favor of a simple, functional camera that doesn't get in my way when I'm shooting, but supports me. Thanks for this and the many other excellent videos! Greetings from Switzerland.

    Nice video as usual Faizal. I tend to shoot in the same modes - especially aperture priority however you are missing a trick by setting shutter speed to auto and then set the base shutter speed in the auto ISO setting - let it bottom out at around 1/250 (or whatever) and then your only variable is ISO. It will only drop below that if there is too little light and the ISO has maxxed.

  • @troyom
    @troyom Год назад +11

    One of the things that I do for the ISO range is set the Minimum shutter speed to 200-250 so it never drops below that usually helps with the motion blur.

    • @Pacman1ac
      @Pacman1ac 2 месяца назад +2

      This is not true for Fuji 'x' range of cameras and Auto ISO. The camera calculates the settings and uses the Minimum shutter speed as a rough guide. It will first try to use the maximum ISO setting, but if this is not enough, it will then lower the the shutter speed, no matter what you have set before. The only way to bypass that is to use manual shutter speed, or a more suitable lens.

    Great video, thanks! But one thing: You set AF + MF ON for a reason. But if you do that, focus priority switches back to release priority, which can provoke more unsharp photos. I think, this should be mentioned for people, who are wondering about unsharp photos then.

      How pointless would it be to manually adjust the focus and then have the camera not release? You choose manual focus when you might deliberately misfocus or the AF might be slower or unsuitable in a situation.

    • @FaizalWestcott
      @FaizalWestcott  Год назад +2

      Sure! Essentially it means when that is on, the "spot" of where the camera meters for exposure would be the same exact spot as wherever the focus point is. Having it off means they are separate so for example I can meter for my highlights and then if I use tracking AF, my meter point won't move with the focus point. It will still be on the highlights. Hope that makes a bit more sense :)

    • @karlbratby4349
      @karlbratby4349 Год назад +1

      Hi John. Film sim option are at the top in the profile setting, lr as standard use adobe profile which is a little rough around the edges , is you click there you will scroll down and see camera matching and all Fuji film sims are in there… better still is go into preferences and you can select an option for LR to apply camera profile on import, so it respects your choice in camera so on import it apply what ever film simulation you have set in camera. Capture one has done this automatically since version 11 but Lightroom just does its own thing. I would advise a trial of capture one pro as it handles Fuji files better, LR is catching up but still better

The camera comes in two "Kits", one with the XC 15-45 mm lens and one with the 18-55mm. I would love to use the camera for my upcoming trip to England to shoot villages, houses, streets, churches, the beach. As I am just starting, I don't want to switch lenses all the time. I was recommended to go with the 18-55mm (but they did not have the kit with the 15-45mm in stock :-)). Do you think the 15-45mm would be ok to start or would I never forgive myself afterwards for missing the "better" option 18-55mm? Or would you recommend any other lens over the two mentioned above?

    Quick question… do you shoot with your glasses on? I’ve found that it’s actually easier to see the viewfinder with the eyepiece removed from the camera. It allows me to get closer to it while wearing glasses. With it on, I need to be at the perfect angle so the edges aren’t masking the image. Curious if you’ve tried this or have any thoughts?

    I don't get it. You actually propose to use 3 buttons (AF, AEL, Shutter) together with spot metering as a point and shoot method, instead of just half pressing the shutter button to focus and lock exposure. Why? Using the back buttons for autofocus and exposure lock is a more complicated procedure for street/point and shoot photography. You also say that you use program mode but your camera is on manual mode on the screen...

    What’s interesting is everyone loves that button focus but I don’t so I don’t use it. I’m still that squeeze focus and take Guy. It is been my weigh so I won’t use back button focus but many people swear by it I actually gave it ago and didn’t like it. So I don’t use it. Majority of work I do is landscape photography so I don’t really need to do Back but in focus anyway as I’m off and having the camera on a tripod and then I’m using a trigger remote, but even then when I do Street Photography, I’m not a fan of Back button … He just doesn’t work for me. I never use auto ISO either as I feel the camera doesn’t choose the right eye so is often way too high for my liking.

    Fuji users tends to over dramatize their camera settings lens and camera type way too much, too much focused on the gear instead of photography itself.

    Nice video, Faizal! Very simple and straighforward. Even though the fewer buttons on the xe4 seemed a negative at first, I find I'm focussing more on the aspect of taking pictures instead of dealing with dials/buttons. I'm also very curious how you set up your xt5 for video. Are you planning to do a video on that too?

      I think down the road once I've got enough experience using the Fuji for video I will make another on how I've set it up to go between photo and video. Still a bit of a noob when it comes to video on Fuji haha
