YOU CHANGED MY LIFE WITH THIS VIDEO - My uncle gave me his camera before he passed away and your video taught me how to use this camera -- I took a picture that he wanted to take his entire life and I framed it and donated it to the people he wanted to donate it to. THANK YOU 🙏
I've had this camera for a few years, but haven't used it enough to be totally familiar with it. Watched some other RUclipss, but this is far and away the best of them all. Amazing how you cut right through to what's important and explain it with complete clarity. This was far, far better than any manual. Thanks so much!
This is the gold standard of tutorials for this camera. Thank you so much for this excellent video and for making it so much easier for someone technologically challenged like me!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I bought this camera two years ago, and lent it to my son. It's just come back to my hands so I can get used to using it before a birdwatching trip. This video was a FANTASTIC overview, and I feel much less overwhelmed now and ready to start playing with it!
I was a professional photographer back in the 80’s and 90’s. Only really worked with 35 and 120mm film cameras and the occasional view camer. Aside from built in metering my cameras had none of the advanced settings this does. I recently retired and am getting back into photography as a retirement hobby. Bought this camera as an entry level camera to get back into things and learn all the new things that have come along in the past 30 years. This was a great tutorial to get started. Thank you!
Great job! Just bought the camera today. Needed all the help I could get. As a senior guy, I found it VERY helpful, but not mind boggling. Thanks again!
I am also a senior. We are better at tech stuff, because we started out doing things manually. We go beyond playing with buttons, and we tend to better understand the logic inside. I am almost 61, but an online test rated me as Gen Z recently. Just a decade ago, I was a Millennial :D :D
I don't normally write comments on youtube, but I wanted to say thank you. I have owned this camera for 18 months and have pretty much used it as a paper weight. Now I can get it into settings I am familiar with and looking forward to using it. Thanks again!
This walk through was so awesome! I was very overwhelmed by all the menus and abilities of this camera and although I still have a whole lot to learn, this video at least made me feel like I could function with the camera and be able to start getting the most out of it! Thanks so much!
OMG I am so thankful that I found this video. I bought this camera to take on all my travels (recently retired) as I wanted to be able to capture every single bit of my adventures from close up images to landscapes, buildings, people, etc. You explained everything so clearly that now I understand so much more. I am saving this video so I can refer back to it from time to time. Thank you!!!
I have had this camera for many years and just got around to watching your video. So helpful. I can't believe I didn't know where some of these buttons and controls were . thanks again
Thankyou, I just bought one of these having upgraded from a far far inferior bridge camera and I was so overwhelmed. Now I've watched this I have enough understanding to be able to use it
Thank you so much for your tutorial. I have had this camera for exactly one year and use it on auto. Now I am setting it to P and use it how I am supposed to thanks to you. You really have made my day I love this camera even more now. You are such a brilliant ambassador for Sony they should be very grateful for what you have done in showing how this lovely camera works to its full potential. I have now subscribed as I think you are one of the most influential photographers I have ever searched for on RUclips.
Gosh, here i am in South Africa for a holiday from UK, and bought this wonderful camera simply because it's an "all in one - everything you'll need - best darn up to 600 mm zoom lens" easy to carry around in it's designated camera pouch it fits snugly into. I am an otherwise EOS Canon 70d user that now comes with a small collection of 5 lovely lenses, from dedicated wide angle to macro which is all well and good but something else to decide which to pack on a long journey holiday therefore needing a back-pack camera bag. So this wonderful RX10iv has proved to be the answer...BUT...I had little time to learn it all to cover the full use before I took off... until this morning....when i somehow found your ecxcellent walk-through video. Thank you so much, now i fully understand what all the various buttons are for that had puzzled me up till now. You're the first to cover them so simply and easy to learn and remember.. The various options in the menue sections are myriad but I'm getting there. I'll definitely go through this again and will now move onto you focusing video you shared in a reply. Thank you again.
Fantastic walk through. Enough detail of a camera with lots of details, yet not too overwhelming. Thank you so much. I’ll be watching this several times for sure. Subscribed to your channel... looking forward to learning more.
Thanks, Heather. My first Sony and what a learning curve! I have watched your video about 5 times and I learn something each time I watch it! You did a great time teaching n old dog new tricks! :)
I have just got this camera, so excited, but so scared. It is mind numbing, this video has taught me so much. Will I get the full extent of what it can do, who knows, but this video will definitely help. Thank you
Thank you for this video. I had some familiarity with the camera, but what feeling a big overwhelmed. Lots of information. Will be watching it over and over until I can remember it! Excellent.
Thank you very much, in this video you showed exactly what I was looking for on youtube for a few days, your video contains a very detailed description of this camera, thank you again!
Thanks so much for the video. It is very well done and helped me understand the basics of my new camera. I am a novice and this camera has a lot more functions than I have talent.. but after watching this video I am feeling a lot less intimidated. Thank you again!!
Just been through the video again with the camera to try the different functions and settings and got a lot from it and you are right when you mention that some people find it daunting and very tempting to stay in auto mode for every shot/video and for some people the results they get may well suffice.I find it much better to follow a tutorial like yours rather than reading a manual so thanks for your support Shutterbug and i'm now beginning to see the wood for the trees with this magnificent camera !
Thank you so much for creating this video! I just got this camera and had know idea how to use it until I watched your video. This was very explanatory and helpful, thank you.
This is IMMENSELY helpful!! Thanks so much for a clear, informative and thorough guide to this camera. I rented one for a trip and your video showed me everything I need to know for using it. Thank you!!!!
Thank you very much for making this helpful video. I just got the camera a few weeks ago. You are very easy to understand, meaning you say just what is needed, no more, no less. Great job!
I have found this camera comes into it's own when at an airshow; brilliant results in focus 99.7% of time regardless of aircraft speed and, distance from camera at various zoom settings.
So very thorough ,this is a great instructional video on this Sony DSC RX10 IV Camera thank you , you are easy to understand and go through this perfectly.
Great overview thank you...I have the camera on loan at the moment and am going to test drive it in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park which is in South Africa so this has been ernormously helpful.😃
Thank you for this so complete and clear explanation of how this camera works! I am new to this camera. So now after this walk through I'll begin using it. Thanks again!
💥Thank you for so much great info. Just one friendly note… 8:28 Just the opposite is true. As you extend the lens the weight does shift which is much more to the front. That is why removable telephoto lenses have their tripod foot in the middle of the lens somewhere way in front of the camera body, not way to the rear. I think that Sony was forced to put that mount so far back due to the internal positioning of electronic components.
Thanks. I just got this camera, so this was very helpful to give me an idea of where things are and so I can start shooting. Getting up to speed with new cameras can be intimidating and takes a lot of time (especially for a guy that grew up using the ultimate no frills film camera, the Nikon Nikkormat.
Really appreciate the walkthrough, but would love to see you do a How-To with this on focusing. For example, how to move the focus point to make sure the animal on the branch is in focus rather than the branch itself. Thanks again!

Many thanks for a great walkthrough. my RX10 has recently started moving the square green focusing pixels all around the screen when I focus on a subject. In the past it would lock in and the pixel squares would not move around. I have not messed with any of the settings I originally had. What has changed please?
Thanks for a wonderful , informative, and very clear tutorial. 3 quick questions: 1) is there a back button focusing option. ( or an option to customize a button for this purpose) ? Where is it located and if convenient to use. 2) is there a bulb option for long exposure. What’s the maximum ? 3) What’s the lens’s caliber ( to check out whether it fits any of my filters) Thank you 🌼
1) Yes, you can assign a button to focus or focus hold. Just go through your menu to the customization option. 2) Yes, this camera has a preset time up to 30 seconds for long exposure, or BULB is available in the Manual mode to do exposures for hours long. 3) The lens filter size is 72mm Thank you for watching! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Hi Heather: Thanks so much for this. It was very helpful even though I have an older RX10 v2. I wondered if you had insight into how to take long exposures using a plunger on a tripod. I noticed the manual shutter settings up to 30 seconds, but I wondered if you can manually override using a plunger (or bulb as they used to be called). Even on a preset, I would use a plunger to reduce vibration. Again, thank you so much for this. Tom G.
I followed your settings recommendation. Thank you. I am not able to get into my scene selections like portrait sunset, etc. I don't see it in my menu. How do I get to that, or do I have something checked that is preventing me from getting there. I don't see the face at all in my menu like you had? Help please & Thank you. Doug
I purchased my Sony RX10 IV at least a year ago. I am ready to give up and sell it because I don't have the time or energy to sit down and go through the book which is at least an inch thick. I thought it might help to listen to this video but I just could not keep up with all the tabs and setting changes and feel completely lost. I am going to be 80 years old in October and all I want to do is take pictures of birds, which is why I chose this camera for it's recommendation for just that and because it was suggested by a good friend. I don't care about any fancy photography, no raw shooting, no night photography, no fireworks or anything like that and just auto everything. If you could go through and just give me the setting that I can set and leave forever and I can then make this camera work, I might consider keeping it. I have had a Nikon D50 for years and it has died on me and I loved my 300 zoom lens with it. Then I switched to a Nikon Coolpix P520, which I loved but then the autofocus began giving me grief so I went searching for an "easy to use" camera for an old duffer and this was recommended by a friend. I sit on my porch everyday trying to take photos of birds and I can never get the focus to work. I have it set on Auto but I'm sure I'm doing something wrong as close ups don't come out in focus and distance shots don't either. I have tried using the video a couple times but when I upload them to my Adobe program I get a message that they cannot be displayed for some reason so I gave up on them. We just had the Thuderbirds here for a show and I didn't get one decent shot. I thought I had everything set OK but every shot I took looking into the sky came out blank. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for this. I don't shoot a lot of video but I was more interested in night shots. I've laid the camera aside lately during these last couple of months due to COVID. However I'm going to take it out tomorrow on my way to work and then again after work when it's dark. I haven't tried the flash before mainly trying to compensate by adjusting aperture, shutter speed and ISO. It should be fun.
Thank you for this wonderful presentation. Can you tell me how to delete all images from my chip once I have uploaded them to my PC? I've worked out how to delete one by one but there must be a delete all option.
Thank you for providing this video, I'm delighted to have learned many things from it. Could you also please share information on shooting a video in 4K and adjusting the frames per second (fps)?
This is a older clip but I bought a Hähnel Modus 360 RT flash and that’s work’s flawlessly with my RX10m4. Good battery life with 400 estimated flashes. The camera is a stunning piece of glass in the lens and it’s sad that this camera is now discontinued.

3) What’s the lens’s caliber ( to check out whether it fits any of my filters)

1) Yes, you can assign a button to focus or focus hold. Just go through your menu to the customization option.
2) Yes, this camera has a preset time up to 30 seconds for long exposure, or BULB is available in the Manual mode to do exposures for hours long.

Hi Heather:
Thanks so much for this. It was very helpful even though I have an older RX10 v2. I wondered if you had insight into how to take long exposures using a plunger on a tripod. Thank you for providing this video, I'm delighted to have learned many things from it. Could you also please share information on shooting a video in 4K and adjusting the frames per second (fps)?
Yes u would need to update firmware for the Gidox Flash. I'm watching your incredible tutorial again. Thank you .
This is a older clip but I bought a Hähnel Modus 360 RT flash and that’s work’s flawlessly with my RX10m4. Good battery life with 400 estimated flashes. The camera is a stunning piece of glass in the lens and it’s sad that this camera is now discontinued.
