I just purchased this camera today. The Mark V will probably be announced tomorrow but I’m not getting any younger. Thank you for a fun and informative video.
Congrats on the purchase ! And yes Murphy’s law can always happen but somehow I don’t think we’ll see the next model for a while. Hopefully you got $100 off for a holiday promo on the camera ! Thanks for the comment
@@bengazzara1324 There is some fishy stuff going on. They don't want people having this good of a camera for 1/8th of the price of an equal full frame setup.
I am not getting any younger either, I have found this RX10M4 a very versatile machine which, came into it's own at an international warbirds air show, very sharp images all day each day. Some very high speed aircraft were involved.
This channel is the best channel for camera reviews. I've seen several yt channels and Tech to Remember should be one of those in the mainstream camera reviews content creator. for me this is the best channel to go to. Thanks I found this channel!
Bought it last week for full price. Replacing an old nikon d60 with 18-200. Will be used as travel cam and hiking wildife cam (mostly reptiles and birds). Used it now one time and got some neat bird photos which i wasnt able to capture before. Compared the pictures with my pixel 8 pro, considered top of the line smartphone camera. Even without optical zoom the sony captures way more detail. Happy with it so far.
Yeah hubby has just won a bid on ebay. We are just back from a holiday in Namibia - so many birds of prey that were too far away for the camera we had. I'm looking forward to all the macro shots I will be able to do on flowers & insects, then move up to red kites over our garden in the UK. By the time we get back to Namibia I may be fighting with him to use it 😉
I really appreciate this video and adore your style. It’s like you are asking and then answering the questions I am asking before I think to ask them. Very cool. Of course, I subscribed immediately. I have an old Minolta SRT 101, an old Nikon F1, a Nikon D90, a Nikon D610, a bunch of DX and FX lenses, a Fuji X100T (great for portraits), and a terrific Really Right Stuff tripod with a great ball head. But I am older now and really don’t want to carry this gear around. The point and shoots are interesting but feel small in my large hands, so this Sony RX 10 IV seems just about perfect. I always shoot in RAW and post-process primarily in Lightroom (which does 85% of what Photoshop does). This sounds like the camera for the future travels for an older retired guy.
Hey. Thanks so much for your comment ! You certainly have some great gear there and you bring up a great point about traveling. Who really wants to lug around all those lenses and extra gear through airports with the potential of something getting damaged, etc. The one camera solution is so much more practical snd the compromises are minimal. Not sure if you saw my other video comparing the RX 10 to a full frame (Alpha One) but the results are a bit surprising. At least they were to me ! Best of luck in your shooting ventures and thanks again for your support !
@@techtoremember8096 Yes I saw that video too! I was as surprised as you were! A neighbor across the street shifted from high end Nikon DSLR’s to the Nikon Z system. Granted, he is an excellent photographer and has a small portrait studio in his retirement. And I am super impressed by the Z mirrorless cameras as well as the Canon R series mirrorless versions. But … they are still heavy. Next summer I’ll be cruising around the Med at visiting many archeological sites with uneven ground and slippery-with-time steps. While I could take the full frame kit, why do so if I can have a more than adequate camera that is light, shoots RAW, has a super-telephoto? I know people think Sony will release a Mark V sometime soon, but my view is that this Mark IV is great, and if they do release the V in the next months, I am guessing my IV purchase will cost less. Thanks again.
My first camera was and SRT 101 with a 50MM 1.4 and a 135mm 2.8. I bought it used with the lenses when I was 13 and had it over 20 years! The split image focusing and changing the coin battery that was used on for the light meter once ever few years was great. My RX10 IV should be here next week.
This camera is legendary. I own it and am very happy with it. My biggest gripe would be with the battery as it can run down pretty fast just like you said in 19:50 . other than that, it's a solid camera. A Mark V would be very interesting (if Sony will make it)
I could never forget my RX10iv. It is the absolute fastest focusing camera I've ever had. In flexible spot mode it grabs bird photos that I would be waiting for my my excellent Olympus 40-150 f/2.8 lens (image quality wise, but not focusing speed wise. I adore my RX10iv. It is my favorite good light event lens because of its range and fill-in flash. No lens changing necessary. It is truly a treasure. I'm not expecting Sony to make a mark v model, but I'd be sure to get one if they did. By the way, the viewfinder of this camera is head and shoulders better than that of the Sony A7iii (I think they fixed the viewfinder in the a7iv) and I think the out of camera camera is much better in the RX10iv than the A7iii.
Hello. Enjoy your presentations. I just wanted to chime in. I'm an enthusiast photographer, starting about 20 years with the advent of digital. I went the Canon route of 4/3 with the Rebel, then 60D, and finally 6D. And of course several lenses. I enjoy making travel videos and shooting florals and landscapes. About 4 years ago I took note of the then-new Sony RX10IV and the more I looked the more I realized how wonderfully versatile it was and how good the overall IQ was. I decided to pull the plug and purchase one and have never looked back. Looking back at some of my older work, the Sony just plain produces better results for me than what I was shooting with the Canon. And the video is fantastic. Long story short, I sold all my Canon equipment back to B&H and also purchased the Nikon P1000. The two are all I need. The Nikon is fun, takes very good videos, has insane reach but just average IQ. When we travel, it's just the Sony and I get super results!
Hey ! That’s great. As an owner of the Sony and P1000 I couldn’t agree more about your assessment of both cameras. Both have their place ! Sounds like you made the right decision. Thanks for sharing and for your comment !
Hi I also has this top cam. But when I record video on the cam , the LCD display goes dim, hard to see in daylight! And also the glare on the display makes it worst. Do you have this problem?
@@Aviatorspot My 2 cents: Almost any LED screen is hard to see in sunlight/daylight, even an iPhone. I just don't use it when I shoot; photos or videos. I always use the eyepiece ( which can be adjusted for brightness).
I've been tempted by the Sony RX10 iv in the past but went with the Leica V-Lux 114. Still, I think the Sony probably has the edge on the 114 except when it comes to ergonomics and the direct access controls featured on the 114. I hate menu diving when handling speed is important. Another feature of the 114 was that it allowed you to shoot video and stills (limited) at the same time.
Great overview of a great camera. It may not be the best camera for any one thing, but it does a lot of things very, very, well. I purchased this camera in 2018 for a month-long trip to Africa. It took me a couple of weeks to learn how to use it adequately, and I still don’t know how to use half of its functionality. I produced great images allowing me to get close to the subject without being eaten. Having one camera body and one lens made moving from camp to camp, and around in the field much easier. Others had bags of camera bodies, multiple lenses, and other accessories making it hard to get around and more expensive as luggage weight is limited on flights around the Mara, and extra pounds cost money. The camera is also well sealed (not water or dust proof, but better than many) alleviating some of the worry about keeping your equipment clean. I do agree about the battery though, it doesn’t last long if you’re shooting a lot, but having two extra batteries got me through the day without any problems. All in all, a great camera. If they don’t come out with the V, and if my IV ever breaks down, I would buy another.
Hi! Thanks for the comment it is a great camera overall. I know everyone is waiting for the V, but with all the chip shortages and delays I don’t have high hopes ! Thanks again
The only problem is no updates or refined models since the superzoom and point-and-shoot lines are discontinued. It's the end of the line, hence the pinnacle of what we are going to be able to get. FF superzoom like the Sony 24-240 is far less zoom, and while it's FF, the optics is not as good. Of course, the Tamron 16-300 for APS-C is the next best thing, a larger sensor and 27-450mm is closer, but literally nothing is like this camera with 24-600mm and this quality. I have the Nikon P1000, which has far less quality but a larger telephoto lens. You can get more zoom or better quality, but nothing else like this zoom, with this quality.
I bought one of these 'pre-used' at almost 50% off the new cost just under 5 years ago. Used almost every day since (it's not subject to any shutter count limitation) I recently retired it, purely due to reasonable wear and tear which has left it working fine but a little battered. What did I replace it with? I didn't hesitate. I got myself a pre-used Sony RX10 Mk4! However, I STILL learned a couple of things from your video. Thank you.
Awesome video, awesome camera, thank you 👍 I switched from FF to MFT 6 years ago and I often thought about getting this camera. Let's see if the RX10V will be released at the end of this year (there are some rumors about that) and I'll probably get one. If Sony will be able to get some computional effects in this camera like the Live ND mode of my great Olympus camera, the RX10V might be MY camera. Thanks again and greetings from Germany
Thank you ! And yes there are rumors. Hopefully you saw my video on the latest rumors. It’s a great camera that deserves a long overdue update ! Thanks for the comment
I have owned this camera since 2022 and I love it. I only wish it had a longer zoom. It says 600mm but it is really only about 350mm on a cropped sensor. I definitely aren’t able to zoom onto distant subjects in optical zoom like you do. I also found that the quality of images in clear image zoom aren’t great for wildlife. Instead, choosing a Medium image size instead of Large gave me better photo quality. Do you agree or can you please explain the difference between clear image zoom and Medium image size. Also I can’t find silent shooting anywhere in the menu! Can you please elaborate on it. Thank you so much for this fantastic review. I learned so much more even though I’ve had the camera for about two years. Yours is my favourite camera channel.
Hi! Let my try and address the concerns in your message. Whenever we talk about "mm" its the equivalent focal length of a full frame camera that we are referring to. So yes, when you talk about 350mm in a cropped sensor camera to get the equivalent focal length you multiply by 1.5x so your 350mm cropped sensor is actually equivalent to 525mm, a bit less than the 600mm of the RX10IV. I would ALWAYS set my image size to the highest quality. If you use medium or low, you are sacrificing resolution of the image. You might as well use all the pixels of the sensor and the best the camera has to offer so set your image size to maximum! Not sure why you are finding that medium is giving you better quality than large? Clear image zoom is simply a form of digital zoom (but not as intense). It is magnifying photos by about 2x and videos, 1.5X getting you closer, HOWEVER its not a true optical zoom so when you inspect the image closely, there is degradation and it seems you have confirmed this in your wildlife shots. Sony claims that clear image zoom is essentially like optical zoom, but its not really. They are using an algorithm which they claim is better and it isn't bad, but I personally don't use it. If I want to crop into a photo, I will do that later in the editing process. So to sum up, I'd use the largest file size, don't use clear image zoom and you should be getting good photos. The sharpness of that lens is outstanding across all focal lengths and if you're not getting good images I'm worried you may have an issue with your camera? You can always get it checked out at a photo shop or maybe even send it in to Sony. To answer your question about silent shooting, go to the menu, under "camera settings 2" select "audio signals" choose "off" Select Shutter type :"electronic" That should do it! Not sure why Sony didn't make that easier but leave it to them!
@@techtoremember8096Thank you so much for your detailed reply and tips. You really are awesome with your helpful tips. I love my camera. At full zoom, it takes photos that are as good as those taken with the Canon R7 at the same focal length. Many times I have to check the info to find out which camera I used! 😅
Nice video! I really am doubting that there will ever be an RX10 V. If there is one I will be first in line to get it. I sold my Mark 4 a couple of years ago but I I do find myself missing it occasionally. It is a remarkable capable camera and even though it has some quirks I don’t think there is anything quite comparable to it yet. I have been thinking lately of buying a super zoom mostly for travel and wildlife. I currently shoot an OM systems OM-1 which is amazing. I mostly use it for birds with the 300mm F4 Pro prime lens. It’s great and while much smaller and lighter than a similar FF setup it still can be too large for convenient travel. I usually take 3 or 4 lenses. While I would lose some AF performance otherwise it is not dissimilar from my OM-1. I do think that the common use of noise reduction software now makes it a much better choice than when it came out. I also found that many venues won’t allow ILC cameras. I have gotten into many events with the Sony.
Thanks for the comment Yes I have just gotten and OM-5 myself for the versatility but the RX still holds a special place in my heart Hope you are enjoying your OM-1 I think you’re right about the odds going down on a rx 4 replacement !
The RX-10 series camera's is really nice. In the day I decided for a FDR-AX100 camcorder but I should have bought a RX-10 instead. A fantastic walkaround all in one photo & video package. The AX100 is a great camcorder (that can take pictures) but for me it should be the other way around.
Really nice and well put together video. I really enjoyed watching it! Also, thank you for including a moon shots into the video. This was the reason I've decided to look for this camera and found your channel. Cheers!
Thanks for watching and for your comment ! Yes I know some people might think about this camera for astrophotography -I did a review of the Nikon p1000 and covered that area as well. Unfortunately, the Sony zoom isn’t quite strong enough for planets but for the moon it isn’t bad !
@@techtoremember8096 Thanks! I've just watched the P1000 video as well. In my opinion the Sony provides far better image quality, but less zoom capabilities. Both cameras are equally impressive.
Oh Lordy - is there any info on the RX10-mark 5 ? ? ? I'm ready to spend my cash now. I have the Mark 3 and I have loved it since 2016. Maybe the Mark 5 will never be made?
The RX10 maybe one of the best cameras made even with the software issues and only one firmware update it is still a great camera. It so good Sony has not introduced an upgrade. Probable because people are still buying it. I wish they would stop.
Bought mine recently at less than original MSRP. Couldn't be more satisfied. It appears SONY is stopping production with no successor at this point (Summer/Fall 2024) and I am great with that. I reach for this over my Nikon 900 or Canon SX60, and use it along side my Sony A77v when desired. The tech and specs hold up even seven years from inception. Proving you don't need all the bells and whistles camera companies would have you believe. Loading up on accessories for additional versatility. Thanks so much for your video, it helps a lot.
Thanks for the great review! Superbly done. Would you recommend this camera for bird photography? I am currently using a Nikon D7500 + 200-500 mm Nikkor. Thanks for your view on this beforehand.
Hi and thanks for your comment! I would definitely recommend the RX10 for birding with its great zoom. If you move from the Nikon just realize you will be going from an APS-C sensor to a 1" sensor but the Sony can definitely hold its own against larger sensor mirrorless cameras. It's a very underrated camera for professional photography -- of course just realize that it's not an interchangeable lens camera so the maximum zoom on the Sony is 600mm (900 if you go clear image zoom). You can't add any more lenses as you could with a camera that has a interchangeable lens option. Your Nikon is a 500mm which is equivalent to a 750mm in full frame terms on your APS-C camera so actually the Sony would give you slightly less reach than what you currently have. Please realize that! Hope this helps -And best of luck!
I got one because a friend takes great bird photos but I'm still puzzled by this thing. Of course that's my fault for not watching videos like this til today!
Hi, I am from India and bought this camera last week. Trying to learn a few things and your vgideo helped me a lot. Thanks. Can you please give more details about the book you referred at time 2:00 minutes.
Hi there. You can find the book on Amazon. It is called “Photographer's Guide to the Sony DSC-RX10 IV: Getting the Most from Sony's Advanced Digital Camera” by Alexander White. Thanks for watching !
Both are good, but the tech in the AX700 is a bit better. You have the power zoom for smoother zooming and I think a bit better stabilization. So if you are primarily going to do video, then I'd say the AX700 if you can find one.
Watched this after the comparison with the Coolpix P1000. Yeah, we’ve got to prioritize between shooting videos or stills. A good steady AF is a lot more important when shooting video. Very informative, and amusing video; learnt quite a lot about colour grading😄👍😉
I've watched several of your videos and found them very helpful. My old Sony Powershot SX-10 IS finally died. I loved that camera. It was great for backpacking & long hikes. I'm really interested in this Sony RX10-IV, but it's so expensive. Are there any other zoom bridge cameras you would recommend? Something with at least 300mm zoom & preferably a full size sensor. I've ruled out the Panasonic FZ2500, Kodak PIXPRO AZ528 & Nikon P1000. Mostly used for landscapes, flowers, nature & wildlife.
Hi there. You put in your comment a full sized sensor. Technically a full size sensor camera (35mm sensor) will be in a mirrorless or DSLR and you'll have to change lenses and it wont be a bridge camera at that point. So, you are stuck with either a 1" sensor like the RX10 or smaller. You may want to look at the Panasonic FZ300. 600mm zoom and I think its actually sharper than the 2500 even though its a small sensor. I have a few videos on the FZ300 ....thanks for the comment!
No problem. No, the FZ300 has the small cell phone size sensor. But I don't know if you saw my video where I compare it to the 2500 (which does have the 1" sensor) and it compares very well. The only 2 cameras left that have the 1" sensor are the RX10, the 2500 and the older FZ1000 mark 2 so there are very limited options for the 1" sensor. Hopefully the manufacturers will release updates on these one day! You also have the RX100 VII by the way, but that only has a 200mm zoom.
Oh man! Great video about this camera! I own her rival - Panasonic Lumix FZ 1000/2 - I would be glad to see a review from you and on Lumix too!)) Creative success to you!
File size is the major factor for CIZ. Medium will give 1680mm - usable but small file allows 240mm which is poor - better off cropping in DxO PhotoLab.
There were rumors recently about a Mark 5 but so far, nothing yet so right now the Sony is at the top of the game and still an excellent camera all considering!
Thanks for the video! It’s nice to see a video with lots of footage. I’m looking for a simple to use camera for taking pictures of my kids taekwondo in door sports style photography. How do you think this camera would do and do you know of something else that would be good? I had an a6000 years ago with lenses but didn’t really like it compared to when I rented an a7ii. The a7ii was amazing.
Hi! Thanks for your comment. As you know there are so many options today to shoot indoor sports. Since it’s indoors you might want a bigger sensor due to lowlight concerns A full frame sensor like an A7 iiii or 4 would work but then you need lenses. Nice thing about the Rx 10 mk 4 is that it’s so versatile. One lens is all you need and even though it’s a smaller sensor it still holds up in low light. ! So why not the Rx10 mk 4? especially if you’re already familiar with the Sony ecosystem, menus etc !
@@techtoremember8096 I am unsure if it would be able to handle the low light of indoor activity. I’ve read some conflicting data on forums and such but your low light stuff in this video really showed the camera can be capable. Thanks for the reply!
@@RobVarley The low available light conundrum can be mediated by a camera with a decent ISO range as well as a larger sensor. The problem is finding a solution to all of the problems. A full format sensor will gather in more light, but most full format digital single lens reflex cameras are interchangeable lens systems. So, you have the lower light capacity of the larger sensor, but you gain heft or weight and considerably so. The lens you may choose will cost more if it has a f/2 at the widest, for example, so as to allow in more light. At this wide open setting, your depth of field is crap. If the target is sports then movement is part of the problem. You can shoot at a faster speed, at the loss of light gathering. You may choose to shoot on a stable tripod but then lose some flexibility in terms of moving with your sports or inside target. To have the camera system (including ‘fast’ lenses and full format sensors), you will have to spend a huge amount of money.
I've watched quite a few of your videos, and you do a fantastic job with everything from specs to performance. Your models are easy on the eyes also! I'm searching for a bridge camera to video auto sports. I was liking the Sony RX 10 until you pointed out it won't refocus while zooming. That's a critical requirement for auto sports, because for video, as the car comes closer or moves farther away, both focus and zoom need to constantly match the car's position. 1. Can I rely on the Sony's autofocus while manually tracking zoom with the lens ring? 2. Are there better bridge cameras for recording auto sports? 3. Or will I have to move into full-frame cameras? Most of the lower-cost bridge cameras have other onerous deficits.
Hi there. First, thanks so much for your compliments. Much appreciated! As for your focus question, that's a good one. Its very hard for most cameras to focus while zooming to be honest. Even mirrorless cameras can struggle with that (the larger sensor makes it more challenging). I will say, the RX10IV does a very good-excellent job with AF in sunny conditions. Not sure if you remember the scene in the video with the man riding the bike, how the AF locked on during that scene. More modern cameras do have a AF "tracking feature" for video and since you mentioned cars, some of the newer cameras like the Nikon Z8, Sony full frame cameras and Canon can detect cars, if you input that in your focus menu, so they will actually use algorithms to keep a car in focus, if it detects a car in the scene. If this is your primary use for the camera, then a mirrorless with this focus feature might be for you. Naturally, it's going to be way more money. I will say, that in bright light and if you are not fully zoomed in, I do think the RX is up for the task. You can also use manual focus if it super critical and try that but naturally that's going to require a lot more effort! There are no other bridge cameras that I am aware of that would have this sophisticated focus feature that I mentioned however. The Nikon P950's focus is very good but its a small sensor camera and that zoom is even higher and subject to AF errors So if you want a bridge camera the RX10IV, even though its older, I do believe is still top notch for focus. For the best in focus today, you'd have to upgrade to a mirrorless unfortunately since that's where the manufacturers are spending the most time and where the latest tech is. I hope this helps and thanks again for your support.
@@techtoremember8096 Excellent! Yes, that certainly helps. I didn't mention in my question, but I also intend to use the camera in our boat to video water skiers. This application should be a "piece of cake", if I may borrow your truck photo, for the Sony, since subject-to-camera distance will be constant and well within the Sony's zoom range. Thank you!
Haha ! Yes. I like your choice of words ! Sounds like a fun project and I bet you’ll be pleased with the results ! I’m rarely disappointed with the camera. Best of luck !
@1945 you mentioned that the RX10iii has an ND filter, when in fact it doesn't. The original RX10 & the next generation RX10ii both had ND filters, but it was discontinued with the RX10iii. Other than that, great video highlighting what it can do in the real world.
Hi, thanks for your comment. I had actually heard from someone that the RX10-Mark3 did have the ND filter but made the mistake of not independently verifying that. Thanks for pointing that out and correcting the record. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the review, very informative. I am tossing up between the RX10 IV and the Nikon P950, what are your thoughts? Would either camera be suitable to take Aurora photos? Cheers
IMHO, Sony is discontinuing the RX series cameras because they are so good that they probably eating into the sales of their higher end cameras and lenses
@@techtoremember8096 yea i had a look at it, currently using Nikon p900. Great zoom but its smaller sensor causing quality issues.. Rx10 4 will be better quality due to 1 inch sensor eventhough zoom is very less compared to p1000 right?
@@techtoremember8096 thanks a lot, waiting for that video 😊 Here in India rx10 4 costs almost double of p1000. Waiting for your video to decide on it.. 👍🏻
The RX10m4 camera has a timed switch off and it automatically retreacts the lens. Unfortunately the lens caught the camera bag and it sounds like the gearing jumped some teeth. Now the lens won't fully extend. Is this easily fixable, please anyone?
I know there is a big price difference, but does the Canon Powershot Sx70 HS that you also reviewed, zoom in a lot more? I want to use the camera mainly for birding.
Hi there, yes the Canon sx70 does zoom in quite a lot more. The sensor is smaller, the stabilization isn't great and so the resulting images will not be as sharp and clean as the Sony's but you do get more reach. So it depends on critical you are about image quality to determine which is the better option for you.
@@techtoremember8096 Thanks so much for your reply! I am now using a Lumix DC-TZ90 compact camera which according to specs has zoom of 30x / 24-720mm. That would mean that with the Sony RX10 I will not get closer than what I have now? Or am I reading that wrong?

@@techtoremember8096 thank you, great channel btw. I found you cause I was currently researching the Nikon P1000 and other superzooms/bridge cameras. Keep up the great work!
Not even close; the Sony is a far better camera. The longer lens of the Nikon is cool, but being so long half the time you would need to use a tripod to get clear images. Who wants to carry around a tripod?! Never mind that the P1000 has a sensor no bigger than a smartphone but without the computational power of a phone.
I am looking to automatically record still images during video recording. This function is possible according to the menus of the device and the description of the manual, but I cannot activate it. I managed to activate this dual record function manually (i.e. I start the video recording using the dedicated button and I press the shutter button when I want to take a photo…. the word capture is displayed on the screen and the photo is saved. Unfortunately when I validate automatic dual record with high frequency, (tab 2 of film 2), no photo is triggered automatically but the dual record symbol is displayed on the screen. I do not understand this what does the sentence in the following documentation mean "Takes photos when impressive compositions including characters are detected. Nice and informative video. Question please, the 4K can be shoot at 60 fps? and how do you prefer to merge 4k 30 fps video into super slow motion 1920*1080 videos in post production?
Thank you. 4K maximum frame rate is 30 fps on the camera To answer the second part of your question, I think you just need to experiment with whatever post production solution you are using. In Final Cut Pro you can put mixed formats on the same timeline. Thanks for your comment
I'm in the market for a new camera. I usually do landscape and lowlight scenery photos. Worth still considering this somewhat old camera? Or looking into the new alpha series? Never dealt with fumbling multiple lens before
Nice. Unlike others, your unique presentation I like. I'm tossing between this camera and my A6100+ the 70-350mm Sony lens. What's your suggestion? Thanks.
Thanks for the comment ! As to your question, well I think you have to decide if the 350mm is enough reach ? It’s certainly a long zoom but 600 mm is quite a bit longer. Are interchangeable lenses important to you ? You can’t go wrong with either camera but a 70 mm lens on the wide side is very limiting. 70 mm is definitely not a 24 mm which the Rx10 mk 4 has I would say that lens 70-350 is more of a specialty lens. You’d need another for more wide angle purposes.
@@techtoremember8096 I currently have the RX10M4 and A6100 with 18-135mm, 70-350mm and the kit lens. I'm trying to sell the 70-350mm but I'll lose $ so I might as well keep it for certain situations.
When I was referring to newer models , I meant in general - there are many new camera models out. But yes, this camera is very unique. And I wouldn’t hold my breath for the RX10 V. With all the chip shortages, I doubt we’ll see it anytime soon !

Thats a great question. There's always a chance but its not looking likely at this point. If Nikon releases a successor to their popular P1000, another Superzoom camera which is very popular for birders and people who shoot wildlife and it sells well, then I think other manufacturers like Sony might join in but it may take a few more years. In the meantime, I use the RX10IV frequently and it holds up very well even by today's standards.
Since I couldn't do a full research, I bought a mirrorless camera instead of this device, but when I started using it, I realized that I made a mistake. I'm thinking of buying a used Sony RX10 III because the price is more affordable, I've read that there isn't much difference between them and the Sony RX10 IV, what do you think?
You could go that route sure. They are similar in many respects. Autofocus has been improved in the 4 and a few other things but for the most part they are similar
Hi, Can you tell me if the camera when in manul mode, is it possible to have a shutter speed of 12 seconds and an ISO of 1600. This is the setting I use for photos of the Aurora on my DSLR, but on Bridge cameras I have tried it has not been able to do this, even though the cameras allow the settings they are not allowed at the same time. Thanks
Hello. That was an interesting question. I pulled out the camera. The closest I could get it was 10 or 13 seconds on the SS and I could set the ISO to 1600 while it was at either of those values . I am not sure if there is a way to fine tune the shutter to 12 seconds but if you can live with 13, (or 10) I can tell you I was able to enable that !
I need a camera with a 600mm range, but I've only recently found out about the Sony Rx M4 camera! In your opinion should I get the Sony Rxm4 or the Sigma 150-600? Use is to make funny youtube videos with hidden camera. Quality and Bokeh are essential.... So which one should I choose?
The Sigma (on a full frame camera I assume) will give you a better image, no question. You will also get good bokeh on the RxMark4 at long telephoto. They are 2 very different solutions. The Sigma and full frame camera will be significantly more expensive (when you consider the cost of the camera). But for pure picture quality, the Sigma will be better, but if you are doing hidden camera videos where discretion is important, the RX solution will be much smaller. Hope that helps!
Thanx for the review. I own the Panasonic FZ1000 for the last 6 years now. Good camera. I like it a lot, but now it's starting to show its age. I am thinking either to finally take the step forward in my photography (there are limitations to what a bridge camera can deliver as far as quality goes) and jump to a mirrorless, such as the Sony A6400. But, i am really drooling over the RX10iv, even though it is old, and maybe because of that, because it is amazing and now can be bought for affordable price second hand. Since you seem like an experienced guy, which of the 2 would you choose, and why? Thanx
Hi. Thanks for watching. You ask a good question. I think what you have to ask yourself is how important is the ability to change lenses ? With the6400 you will get a bit better picture quality it’s a larger sensor but you will trade off in that long zoom of the RX mk4. They are both good choices. You can’t go wrong but if you really want that long reach , I’d say the RX still holds up today. I was surprised how close it came to a full frame camera. Feel free to check out my comparison review on that. Hope that helps a bit !
@@techtoremember8096 Thanx. As an owner of the good Panasonic FZ 1000, which is second only to the RX10iv, I got used to the long zoom and use it a lot. But a 135mm lens on the a6400 will give me an equivalent of 230mm on the RX10 1" sensor, which is good enough, especially if the return is a better low light performance, better autofocusing, better image quality and flexibility etc. It's hard to decide. oh, and it's a real bummer that such a great camera doesn't have timelapse. Such a pitty and no explanation because it is only a firmware update. It is really tough to decide.
Your analysis is sound. Maybe get both.? Lol -good luck in your decision. Whatever you decide, either I’m sure are great choices I suppose if you wanted further reach you could get an even longer zoom for the 6400 down the road
I have this cam also. But when I do recording video on the cam , the LCD screen goes dim so very hard to see in daylight outdoor. Why is that so? Anyone knows why? How to fix it?
@@techtoremember8096 I'm taking about the LCD screen when shooting 4k video. I didn't notice it when I first bought the cam. Then when I was using it last week. I have the A7S and A6500, the LCD never go dim when recording.
I just tested it with my RX10 IV and I did not see that. The screen stays at the same brightness as HD. You are referring to the RX10 IV is that right? I would also look at the menu and see where your VF brightness is set at and make sure it is at the maximum. Also check the menu and make sure you dont have any energy efficiency modes set.
would like to get one of these , they are a steel second hand on ebay , used to have Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1which was a legendary camera , also had the sony rx10 mk1 , not much zoom but a great camera , sorry to say only rely on samsung 23 ultra , that 100 times zoom is amazing if you can hold the phone still enough , its a shame a lot of cameras have died of as the phone evolves ....... think is when ever you need a camera you dont have it but you always have your phone .................... main problem with phones is no view finder for brighter days .........
Ax700. Nice unit but more of a camcorder style primary for video. The RX is more of a dual use camera /video unit. But some people still prefer the camcorder style so it’s a personal choice
@@techtoremember8096 i am a noob in this field , but I noticed that a looot of very expensive optionals of cameras are used to avoid the waiting for the right weather for pictures, like always do before take my sadly broken sony cx 220 to get nice pics of the nature
does it record 1080p 60fps? i want a camera for budget level as i am new. i am not a fan of zooming. but focusing and clarity should be better for video at night mode also
Hi there. Yes it does shoot 1080 at 60 fps - if you’re not a fan of zooming this may not be he camera for you since you are paying for that long zoom lens. There are many other less expensive options out there with shorter lenses if you like. You don’t have to zoom with this camera - on the other hand it does have a nice wide angle lens too and is very good at night as you can see from the video !

Aw! That’s so nice to hear Hope things are going well in the UK. thanks for watching !
I am not getting any younger either, I have found this RX10M4 a very versatile machine which, came into it's own at an international warbirds air show, very sharp images all day each day. Some very high speed aircraft were involved.

I had a canon sx70 hs, but was frustrated with auto focus. Purchased the Sony RX10 M4 3 weeks ago. Boy, what a difference. Love it.
Yes it’s way better !
Somewhat of a price difference. I found the auto focus of the HS70 excellent, best of the SX series. Great viewfinder.
Thanks for your revisit. There's always a tip to learn from someone as knowledgeable as yourself. Love the versatility it gives. My all in one.
Thanks for watching ! Glad it could be of help
Waiting for your return! Your videos are just fantastic! Thank you very much!
A Mark V would be very interesting (if Sony will make it)
It would be if it’s ever released ! Thanks got watching
But what would a Mk5 add to an already (almost) perfect camera?
Great video, informative without being too spec heavy for a newbie like myself to understand.
Ive just got this camera,so have a lot to learn.

Great video! Had mine for 2 years and still learning! This has been very helpful, thank you...

I am an amateur and have a Sony RX10 Mk1. It is my go to camera. It just takes excellent stills and video and has a good range.
Looking to get into photography. Been eyeing this. How do the pictures compare to an iPhone 14 max? Thanks
This was a great intro to some of the features of this camera.
Thanks!
Also excited about your site.. This is my first visit. Certainly have experience a lot of tech in my 78 years.
Welcome ! Stay tuned. Got a lot of stuff in the works! Thanks for watching

Thank you. I purchased this camera several months ago and your tips are soo helpful!
I’m really glad ! Thanks for you comment !
YES I LEARNED GOOD STUFF FOR MY RX10 IV, THANKS MUCH.
Glad to hear and thank you for your comment!
What a great review, it’s extensive and still delightful to watch.
Thank you so much Andre ! Greatly appreciated
Thanks for a great helpful review - just ordered the camera - can't wait to try it!
Awesome!
You can get more zoom or better quality, but nothing else like this zoom, with this quality.
ditched my Canon 80D for this and I'm glad so far. Simple grab 'n go is a fun way to shoot.
Thank you.
Nice! I appreciate your loyalty to the camera ! Thanks for your comment
Awesome video, awesome camera, thank you 👍
I switched from FF to MFT 6 years ago and I often thought about getting this camera.

Thanks for watching and for your comment ! Yes I know some people might think about this camera for astrophotography -I did a review of the Nikon p1000 and covered that area as well. Unfortunately, the Sony zoom isn’t quite strong enough for planets but for the moon it isn’t bad !

The RX10 maybe one of the best cameras made even with the software issues and only one firmware update it is still a great camera. It so good Sony has not introduced an upgrade. Probable because people are still buying it. I wish they would stop.
Interesting thought. I would agree. Thanks!
No problem. Glad you're happy with the camera. Couldn't agree more. Thanks for the comment!

Some more comparison of video quality compared to the AX700 would be really great! Which one would be better for primarily shooting video?
Both are good, but the tech in the AX700 is a bit better. You have the power zoom for smoother zooming and I think a bit better stabilization. So if you are primarily going to do video, then I'd say the AX700 if you can find one.
@@techtoremember8096 Fantastic! Great recommendation. Thank you.

@@techtoremember8096 I’m looking for the occasional use super-zoom as the ones for my full-frame body is way out of my retiree’s bank account🫣🤪
@@techtoremember8096 I'm sorry. I meant 1" sensor, not full size. Does the FZ300 have a 1" sensor?
@@techtoremember8096 Thank you, Ill check those out.
Oh man! Great video about this camera! I own her rival - Panasonic Lumix FZ 1000/2 - I would be glad to see a review from you and on Lumix too!)) Creative success to you!
Thank you so much for your comment ! Good suggestion on the FZ1000. thanks again
File size is the major factor for CIZ. Medium will give 1680mm - usable but small file allows 240mm which is poor - better off cropping in DxO PhotoLab.
what file size for photos then?
@@michellewalpole4355 For distant snaps I usually use medium and process in PhotoLab 7.
Thank you! Is there anything new in the market today to surpass this one for the same feature set?
There were rumors recently about a Mark 5 but so far, nothing yet so right now the Sony is at the top of the game and still an excellent camera all considering!

Thanks for your comment !
My pleasure ! Good luck on your decision
Great points !
Beautiful, thank you ..
Thanks good video on RX10iv Do you use back button shutter release??
Thank you. I just use the standard shutter button!

@@techtoremember8096 welcome sir

Yes. I use it to sell my eBay items so I don’t see why not. It’s very versatile
IMHO, Sony is discontinuing the RX series cameras because they are so good that they probably eating into the sales of their higher end cameras and lenses
Iphone and Galaxies can shoot higher pixels, but they can't go against optics laws, the Zeiss lens is very sharp, fast focus, great camera

@lindalucia970 you are right the Sony only zooms in to 600mm optically !

Love your channel. Which is better? This or the Nikon P1000?
Thank you ! Great question. Both are awesome. If you want that bit if a bump in picture quality, I’d say the Sony but if want that incredible reach, nothing touches the Nikon. I’m working on a comparison video. Stay tuned !!
Is the zoom quick enough for bird photography?
You can set zoom speed as fast so I would say so
Sure. Red-dot sight will help tracking moving birds.

Never dealt with fumbling multiple lens before
If you don’t want multiple lenses it’s a great option. Nice 24mm wide angle for landscapes for sure. Rumor of a mark 5. Check out my video on that !
ATG & I suggest to get a Sony DSC-R1.
ATG's first same sized sensor parked on Nikon pro camera.
Can it do photo-stacking ???
I do not believe it does
This camera is awesome for street photography
@@techtoremember8096 thanks for your fast reply. I agree with what you said. 350m is equivalent to 525mm for APS-C.
True !! So your major issue is on the wide side!

hi, I am consereding to buy a camera and i really want a zoom lense I like to do nature photography but i dont want to carry a big lens with me as im just a hobbiest, i really want to buy this one its all i need but its too old im thinking to wait should i?, i can wait 3-4 years more, is there any possibility for mk5?
My husband bought me one 4 years ago, I am just now using it, Or learning how to use it.
Better late than never ! That’s a great gift Enjoy the camera !
I was surprised
how close it came to a full frame camera.
It is really
tough to decide.
