If the grey phantom was the one that crashed then it's officially the unluckiest Gundam ship
Wasn't the Alex supposed to be on white base? So this means the white base crew would be transfered to the grey phantom?
Maybe the Federation "accidentally" crashed the troy horse and coincidentally Zeon soldiers were in the same area it crashed. And the pockets of some federation officers got extra payment

Your idea is quite similar to mine. Bribery is a good idea. But I don't think the ship would have been crashed on purpose, so much as Federal official bribed to look the other way.
For my idea, I assume, rather than bribes, that Zeon allies or spies within the Federation were reporting that it was already stripped and just an empty hulk.

I think the "left intentionally there by Feds to encourage remnants" theory very plausible. Seems like a course of action that is in line with the titans and the radicals. After all, (i am not sure where it came from. My last impression was Unicorn, i think.) From the angle it's at, it looks more like the ship backed in to the mountain rather than crash while falling. Perhaps the Federation crew was attempting to pull a maneuver like the White Base at the Seattle stadium. Human error then caused it to ground on the mountain while flying backwards. After the crash, the Fed crew abandoned the ship and Zeon remnant forces occupied the downed vessel before it could be scuttled. As an older ship, in a state that it couldn't be made airworthy again, and out in the middle of nowhere the Federation gave up on it rather than sink more resources in the a downed ship.

I'd say that the Federation wrote it off after it crashed during maneuvers. They have a record of using things far beyond their intended life cycle, so it was probably so outdated by the era of Unicorn that they grabbed the stuff that was marginally sensitive and the things that could be used to possibly reactivate it as a ship and called it good. Cleanup was never a strong point on either side in UC, with remnant bits of every war just hanging out all over the place. There were many instances of whole mobile armors just ignored in civilian hands across several series based in UC. Corruption was very common in both sides as well, so even if the Pegasus-class in question was stripped, Federation bureaucrats could be bribed into leaving bits behind, "forgetting" to log its status, or even listing it as rubble. Not to mention that the black market was very active and it wouldn't be too far a stretch to say it WAS scuttled, but then there was enough old Federation materials to even get the thing back into space under its own power.

I remember the line from Stardust Memory, in regards to the Albion; "They're an autonomous attack ship. Tell them they should do something, something autonomous." So for what is essentially a mobile suit strike carrier to be a supply vessel (Troy Horse), it may have been specific component of the array or outdated suits. If this were the case it's possible the ship didn't fall under Titans control following Stardust; deemed non-essential/obsolete. It may have been lost in combat to Neo Zeon or AEUG, possibly captured by a faction or an attempted defection, and had to make a crash landing en route home. Could explain a pro Zeon remnant in control of a Fed ship. Although it looked somewhat intact. The right side hangar bay (I'm sorry, I can never remember my port from starboard) is tilted up in relation to the rest of the hull, but there's little evidence of reentry damage.

the troy horse scenario makes more sense including the leading the remnants to inhabit the ship...
and the fed probably did take out the megaparticle cannons and the minovsky craft parts...
the fed probably crashed the ship there because they are aware that the local government was sympathetic to zeon but had no proof. and given the state of the ship, they might have crashed it just before gryps conflict...

My theory is that its a downed ship during the OYW especially since that location looks like its from South East Asia which saw heavy fighting between the EF and Zeon. They might be planning to take this one out but because the Titans are far more investment in fighting the AEUG and Karaba which are far more financially supported than the remants as well as Jamitov's influence, they might had just put it asside first and focused on what they saw as a bigger threat.
There's also the fact that the EF neglected their Ground Forces since most battles took place in space with the fact that the Jegan saw most action in Space during its introduction than on Earth.
You can also saw that the EFGF being neglected during the early stages of the OYW as they focused more on building their fleet rather than fortifying the weaker parts of the Earth as well as still using saberfish fighters after the war.

Is it possible that the ship crashed in such a remote back woods area that federation didn't care? The federation seems to be pretty nonchalant with spending on new toys. If an outdated piece of hardware crashed out in the middle of the woods, is it worth spending to recover it when you can spend all that money on building another General Revell. Another possibility, the Federation doesn't know where it crashed, there is a lot debris floating around and big chunks of Colony have impacted the earth . So a ship wreck is probably not going to get reported to the authorities.

    • @heavyarms55

I think it was less about recovering it, and more about making sure it had no viable weapons systems. And yeah, they spent out the ass on new equipment. But there's nothing to suggest that the didn't reuse materials from older equipment.

@@alexelam1127 Its still a waste of resources to leave it there, and I'm not sure what qualifies as new equipment as the feds were busy overhauling the old sala and magel ships while developing and bringing like 2-3 new ship classes online, and they were busy trying to pull the parasitic Anaheim Electronics off of themselves and completely in house R&D mobile suits. So surely the resources just sitting there in the form of a crippled ship on a mountainside would be worth recovering to put into those projects? The metal tonnage of that ship is probably worth quite afew mobile suits and maybe upto a new ship?

    • @alexelam1127

@@Feiora I guess the biggest problem we face is the lack of context. We don't know enough about the political, economical situation of the federation. the geography of the crash, the knowledge of the crash.
I offer a counterpoint for consideration.
Recycling; we know the benefits and we do recycle. But for most part the economics of scale make it easier to build new than to recycle. I realize that if very broad strokes view of it, and am speaking entirely as a global community.
A more specific case would be the recovery of ships, we know where hundreds of ship wrecks are and make no effort to recover the hundreds of tonnes of valuable resources. It's not cost effective to try to recover the wrecks, then process the materials.

Zeon Remnants didn't have the fuel or resources to keep this gas guzzling White Base ship flying around Earth constantly. So they parked it on-top of a mountain, and used it as a base. It can't be the Grey Phantom. It is listed as destroyed during the Naval Review. Not damaged, destroyed.
Even if it wasn't fully destroyed, but lost all hands... What, it drifted from Solomon, unmanned, entered Earth Atmosphere at an angle that permits re-entry, unmanned, and just politely wedged itself there, all without ever being discovered in this process?
It has to be another Pegasus-class ship of the same LINE as the Grey Phantom.
The Troy Horse would be a good candidate, given it's largely unaccounted for, but it could just as easily be an unnamed Pegasus class carrier..

I'd imagine that the Feds know about it, most likely after whatever happened to get her there they sent an assessment team who deemed her a total loss and just left her. As for why they didn't strip her of parts I'd guess that factors like accessibility, cost and it being low priority were at play. We don't get a good view of the entire crash site so we've no idea how difficult it is to get to (The little bridges to the ship notwithstanding), there does seem to be a trail of some sort in the first shot but as the camera pans it seem either to just be part of the mountain or not very close to the site with a steep valley in between, so if the only way to easilly access the ship is by air then I could see the Feds just not bothering due to how expensive such a salvage would be. It's also not going anywhere anytime soon and they have other things to worry about that said we never see the interior it's possible that a demo team was sent in to render her inoperable note that they don't seem to be using the catapult just the deck lights.

Seeing it's location, I can't help but wonder if the ship was searching for remnants much like the Albion on 0083, perhaps in the same mission, as they mention in 0083 other ships are searching for the Gp02. I would assume that much like the Albion they found remnants but unlike the Albion they were unable to fend them off. Likely the ship got caught in an ambush, it's engines were hit and as it tried to gain elevation it ultimately crashed into the mountain. The ship probably got stripped by the Fed after the battle and then later remnants would return to claim it once the heat died down. That's my theory.

You are giving the Federation too much credit. The Federation didn't even check Axis for any leftover weapons or mobile suits. Turns out Char and Amuro can just go inside and there are tons of free bazookas and machine guns all over the place! And even after Char failed to drop Axis on Earth, turns out there are leftover Neo Zeon mobile armors and mobile sutis still inside it. Would not surprise me if the Quin Mantha is still floating around inside Axis because the Federation forgot about it.

I feel the ship was most likely on Earth when it crashed. I feel if it came down from space it would have done more damage to the spot it crashed and most likely wouldn't be in such good shape. The way it rests on those cliffs it almost looks like someone backed it up there. Making me really think it was a trap or a lure for the Zeon forces as at the time they wouldn't have the time or means to place it there. So I do like the theory the Feddies left it there for Zeon in a sense of know where their enemies are. Or a Zeon sympathizer inside the Federation was covering it up for them. Either way all I can do is rule out it came from space.

During the first Neo Zeon war the few surviving Titans decided to support Haman (i always found this amusing, but i guess they had their back on the wall at that point) and that's why some of their units ended up in their hand. That Pegasus class (which in my opinion was a sister ship of the Gray Phantom and not a ship seen in other previous works) was probably a reactivated mothballed ship operated by a skeleton crew of Titans survivors and a more numerous complement of Neo Zeon and Zeon remnants. While outdated, the Minovsky Craft surely was advantageous on Earth, but it was probably shot down during the conflict. Crucially it's seen launching an heterogeneous group of Marasai and OYW Zaku Cannons. The third theory explains not only why it's still there, but also why so many Zeon remnants cells were still active.

My personal belief is that not necessarily any Pegasus-class we know of. We know that the main leadership of the Titans had deliberately kept a chunk of the Federation's forces away from the 0083 naval review, in anticipation for the nuke that they knew were going to hit the moderates in charge of the naval review. Giving the nuke to the Gundam was part of the Jamitov faction's plans to bait out Zeon after all. So it's probably a Pegasus-class kept by the Titans, perhaps shot down during the confusion of the Gryps war. The area surrounding the mountain looks to have rice paddies and lots of nature, giving off the impression that its location is in China or Japan, maybe Vietnam.

Suggestion for a question of the week: How did Zeon remnant groups last on Earth for such a long period of time after the OYW invasion?
They're still out there in UC0096. I only partially buy the argument according to which the Feds want them so they can have an enemy to fight. I think that's true in space, where the Feds are obsessed with projecting their power, but they are completely uninterested in administering Earth, except maybe some regions. So if they're not getting handouts from the Renpo, what's keeping them in the fight? Loyalty to Gihren? To old Deikun? Handouts from the Vist foundation? Just plain old spite?

    • @Ant509y
      @Ant509y 3 года назад +1

At the end of the OYW, large areas of the Earth were still under Zeon control, such as the southeastern United States, Southeast Asia, Northern Africa, etc. The short timeframe of the war, the rushed retreat of Zeon forces after Odessa, and how sudden the peace treaty actually was, meant that a significant amount of territory was still under Zeon control on January 1 0080, with a large number of Zeon soldiers, Zeon sympathizers, and Zeon equipment still on the ground. Low-key Zeon resistance continued on for years, interspersed with the bigger moments like Operation Stardust in 0083. By 0096, there was very little left, but not nothing. Frankly, I'd not be surprised if wars on the scale of the US-Iraq war of 2003 were common between 0080 and the First Neo Zeon War... because there was a *lot* of stuff left over on Earth.

I want this to be an OVA! Okay, you've got a group of Zeon forces on Earth shortly after the end of the OYW, but they've been out of contact, they don't believe the Federation "propaganda" about an armistice or anything. They are based in that town we see in the background from the Unicorn clip. Said town is mostly Zeon sympathizers and their families. They had been scouting out a smaller Federation ship building facility being used for low production, high cost warships on the other side of the mountain range, they launch an attack on it to either capture or destroy one of those ships.
They attack, defeat the surprised federal forces who were celebrating the end of the war and steal the ship. But the ship wasn't quite finished, with portions of its engines still exposed. And further, the Zeon forces took losses during the attack and weren't quite able to defend the ship well. During the escape, Federal reinforcements managed to damage the engines and witness what appears to be the ship crashing and blowing up on the other side of a mountain. They report the ship destroyed and leave because they are low on fuel and honestly don't care much because the war is over and they are exhausted.
But the explosion the Federal forces witnessed wasn't the ship but a few missiles that the Zeeks had dropped, hoping to confuse their pursuit.
While trying to repair the ship or considering escape, they finally receive word that the war is indeed over. But they have no way to return to space and decide to remain there for the time being. Since the town is full of mostly Zeon sympathizers, they do not report the ship to the Federal government.
How's that? Think Bandai will hire me?

I thought it was the Albion from 0083. Back when episode 4 of the Unicorn OVA released, I saw on a website (cannot remember which) that was saying which Mobile Suits and crafts were shown and where they were originally from (both Federation and Zeon). The Pegasus-class was said to be the Albion.
Suggestion for *'Question of the Week'*: How was it that Coordinators had less advanced looking tech than the Earth Alliance? Throughout all of SEED, Coordinators are said to be super intelligent and have advanced technology compared to Naturals. Yet the Earth Alliance had the most advanced looking tech (Phase Shift Armour, Ablative Gel, Lightwave Barrier, beam weaponry, etc.). Sure ZAFT had Mobile Suits before the Alliance, but when comparing the two sides one has more in terms of advanced tech than the other. Personally I think this is due to bad writing. Characters continuously bring up that Coordinators are amazing at everything and have super... everything, but the inconsistencies are caused by the writing. Yes I'm aware that some Naturals can be as smart as Coordinators but my point still stands, since it'd be only some Naturals compared to all Coordinators if we're going by the writing where they established that ALL Coordinators are as they say they are.

Like even in ZZ Gundam we see the blue team and Africa liberation front who use zeon Ms as well as actual zeon remnants operating that early and they had almost no resistance for an active rebellion so I feel the federation is just very lax and uncaring for the most part until their major bases come under attack.

I think its just being completely overgrown by vegitation... as for it functionality, it is fully possible that it was fully stripped of its tech... but to point something rather small out... those fields down below it... the landscape... what if the federation had originally left it to a certain small village to scavenge? the one year war was rather harsh on one village, that the federation got help from in the 08th ms team... blowing up a non functional ship near such a village would probably not go to well... and hauling that much metal out of what seems to be a rough spot to reach? its not cost effective...
and all we see is power to one launch bay.. i figure remnants moved in on it, because it wasnt enough to continue to pull attention.

Interesting thoughts on the crashed Pegasus-class mystery ship, everyone. :)
Just thought I’d throw my crazy theory into the mix, keeping military thinking and history in mind.
First question… How did it get there? Most likely a controlled or semi-controlled emergency landing. A completely uncontrolled fall would likely have caused the hull to “pancake”. An uncontrolled de-orbit fall would likely leave a crater.
Okay… the ship has crashed, now what? Again, most likely a combat situation. Surviving crew: Render aid to injured shipmates. Destroy classified materials. (Communication crypto gear, classified documents, battle plans, etc.) Signal friendly forces for rescue/evacuation.
The decision to destroy the ship or try to salvage it would most likely be left to higher military authority. And due to the severity of the ongoing military situation, such a decision might take some time.
Why was the ship abandoned? Chances are, the EFSF probably catalogued the wreck, and after a time, some overworked government bureaucrat glanced at the report for five seconds and decided that it wasn’t wort the effort to deal with. Keep in mind the devastation the Earth has suffered since the start of the One Year War: Loss of major population centers, damage to industry, economic chaos, large masses of humanity exterminated, entire populations uprooted and forcibly relocated. With all the problems on the government’s plate, a wrecked spaceship hull (one of thousands dotting the surface of the planet) carries little or no priority at all.
Why are the people living on it not a cause for concern? Again, damage to the Earth, uprooted populations, etc. An EFF aircraft flying over the wreckage and seeing signs of human habitation would merely see a scene that is repeated all over the world… Desperate survivors in remote locations using abandoned military equipment or bases as shelter. As long as you don’t stage a daily parade of the Zeon Remnant mobile suits and attract attention, who is going to care?
I base these theories on historical situations where similar events have occurred. Then I compare our historical facts to the fictional UC timeline.
The cost of dealing with the aftermath of war has always been weighed against the benefits. Look at how European countries deal with WW1 and WW2 duds. The continent is littered with unexploded bombs, landmines, explosive shells and gas shells. It’s too difficult and costly to find it all, so, if you’re a Londoner planting a vegetable garden and accidentally uncover a 500 pounder bomb, just let the authorities know. They’ll deal with it. Nothing else can really be done.
Even large well-known dangers are left alone without action. One of the massive underground explosive piles from the Battle of Messines Ridge (1917) was a dud. It’s been abandoned in place due to the fear that trying to excavate it could set it off. They deal with it by essentially just putting up a sign that says (In effect) “Big boom located underneath you. Please don’t do stupidness, Love, Belgium.” If that pile did detonate, the blast would probably be larger than the recent tragedy in Beirut.
    Tread lightly when visiting Messines.
Dealing with battlefield wreckage from WW2 has been spotty. In economically resurgent areas, the litter of war is quickly tidied up. However, in remote areas, the litter persists. Abandoned tanks and planes still litter the deserts of North Africa and the Islands of the Pacific. Sunken ships are quickly cleared when they pose a threat to commerce in economically vital shipping ports, But, in remote areas, entire fleets are left to rot. (Truk Lagoon)
Look at abandoned megastructures left over from the war. They still exist because destroying them is too costly. Some are repurposed, some are left to rot in place. The Atlantic Wall fortifications and the La Rochelle submarine pens come instantly to mind. Event the famous Nuremberg grandstand that Hitler used for his pre-war rallies still exists. It’s now used as the front straight grandstand at the Norisring auto racing track. (Seriously! Just look up an auto race at Norisring on youtube! you’ll recognize the grandstand from WW2 instantly!)
Now, take our history, and our behavior towards the wreckage of our world wars, and superimpose those solutions on the aftermath of the One-Year War… a war that created more than 100x the damage to the Earth than all previous wars put together. Can you imagine the amount of abandoned military property, weapons caches, fortifications, and destructive devices of all sorts that are just lying around after that war? With all that chaos, destruction and ruin, I’m not surprised that Zeon Remnants could easily “hide in plain sight”.

I think it could be the Albion. The Albion isn't seen past UC 0083. Most of the stuff from Operation Stardust was hastily gotten rid of, so it's possible that to cover up the equipment for GP-02 (and the Federation's role in developing nuclear armed mobile suits) that they scuttled it by ramming it into a mountain. If Zeon took up residence in it, so much the better; any material about the nukes and GP-02 would be clearly the fault of Zeon Remnants, and not the EFSF.

My theory is that the EFF had big priorities to deal with. I just finished watching ZZ and while watching it I noticed 2 things
    1. Earth looks very deserted. We only see two major cities in ZZ and that’s Dakar and Norway. And Norway gets crushed by a colony.
    2. Hardly any presents of the EFF. They showed only 2 or 3 G.M. Protecting the capital. It’s almost as if the federation was whipped out. I know the gryps war just ended but that conflict was mainly fought by the Titans, Neo zeon, and AEUG. What happened to the EFF standard forces?
What Im trying to get at is I think after the events of ZZ and chars counter attack the EFF are trying to reorganize themselves, trying to build up their army again and probably staying and protecting the last of earth’s city’s and strongholds.
There maybe some small parts of earth that are abandoned like this Pegasus cruiser.

Too intact to have fallen from Space.
No underside burning from re-entry or bow burning.
Likely sunk in One Year War. Crew intentionally ran it aground, then abandoned it. Post-War was stripped of all useful components, but hull left intact for later scrapping.
Location made scrapping too costly and dangerous. So ultimately abandoned as was.
Not unheard of, refer to Honda Point Tragedy and how long scrapping of those ships took.
Since the ship would have been left largely intact, though stripped of all useful parts, the Zeon Remnants probably salvaged what they needed.
Given that they launched Mobile Suit Support Flyer Craft, possibly an Origins Pegasus and not Original Timeline.
That said, Zeon Remnants salvaged where they could and rebuilt the some sections, supplying power likely from a salvaged Gaw Reactor and using removed components from Pegasus ships refitted or decommissioned.
Wouldn't need much. Just enough to get some critical areas running again. Otherwise, she's a houseboat aground.

I just watched the Development History of the Guncannon vid and was wondering what the TH decal on the right shoulder of the Guncannon Mass Production type Unit 6 stood for... Troy Horse!
With the fact that the Guncannon Mass Production type saw a limited production, the Troy Horse = Gray Phantom doesn't sound too implausible.

I have to do this, I have to ask, please give us a Pegasus class development history video! If possible, including the Argama line! I don't know if there is any proof to the idea, but I feel like they must be connected. Or, if there's not enough material for that, maybe QOTW, what was the connection, if any, between the Pegasus class and the Argama class?
I have a theory about this ship: It could be that Zeon remnant allies, within the Federal government/military, reported that the ship HAD been stripped and was little more than an empty hulk. The Federation then simply hadn't gotten around to cleaning it up further. Those same spies within the Federation could have been diverting resources to clean up other war wreckage in other locations to keep this base protected. Also remember that the Earth had been through the OYW, the, the Gryps conflict and first Neo-Zeon war. It had 3 colony drops by this point, Operation British, Operation Stardust, and the colony drop by Neo Zeon during the first war. So the Federation government was probably scrambling to keep the Earth from falling into total nuclear winter and considered trashed warships a much lower cleanup priority. Consider that after WW2, it took decades to clean up all the destroyed planes, tanks, minefields, ships and other vehicles and bunkers, shelters, pillboxes etc etc. And the OYW and other conflicts were arguably larger in scale than WW2.
I also don't think this ship is any of the ships you mentioned. I think it's another Pegasus class vessel that we simply don't know the story for.

IIRC that was also with Earth Naval Force (the SEA Ships not the SPACE ones) that they were leaving Zeon Remnats alone so there is a REASON to have battleships not deconstructed and keeping geting $$$ for the "peace keeping".
Not sure if that was from Return of Johnny Ridden manga or from some other one.

I would like to know the history of some mass production mobile suits like mass production Rx-94 Nu gundam and mass production ZZ gundam. Can I also suggest another big project, which is the history of psycommu weapons as those goes hand in hand with new type and old type rivalry in UC. I also agree with EFF keeping the enemy close by for budget and power status quo theory. As war is a lucrative business that keeps companies like Anaheim to thrive. More power with the channel.

I think its a bunch of people with different and various ideas not coordinating with each other and in the end they just said screw it that's the Grey Phantom. Because if you think about it logically there's no way that ship can be the Grey Phantom as it was at the Naval review in 0083 and of course the GP02 nuked the hell out of Solomon. This by all accounts should have destroyed the Grey Phantom but lets entertain the thought of if it had not. Somehow it managed it's way all the way from Solomon back to Earth without being salvaged by either Zeon Remnants or the Federation? Unlikely. Secondly while the Federation designed many of those special ships to be able to me atmospheric re-entry I find it hard to believe one that just survived a nuclear blast and heavily damaged to survive re-entry. Still entertaining that if IT DID make it though now it's plummeting down to Earth and just HAPPENS to crash RIGHT in the spot and get stuck perfectly and mostly in tact?
No way the impact site would look way different and that ship would have been a debris field on the mountainside. This can only mean that ship is the Troy Horse with the Stallion and the Grey Phantom having been destroyed at Solomon. I'm going to take a wild jab and assume for whatever reason the Troy Horse took part in an operation or was ambushed in that mountain region and it was attempting to make some kind of reverse maneuver and ended up getting stuck. Or it was ambushed and Zeon Remnants were unable to park it successfully on the mountain side crashing it. This is the only logical explanation for that ship. The ONLY way they are going to be able to stick to their guns that this is the Grey Phantom is if they later on elaborate how it got there in the first place. Which I can logically assume it somehow survived Operation Stardust and was repaired and then later ended up there. If not I'm going to always claim this wreck is the Troy Horse.

I think the animators went for cool over practical because you can see what might be roads on the land around the mountain. In-universe, we know the Federation's upper brass wasn't adverse to dealing with the remnants so they could've bargained continued attacks by the local forces in exchange for a base and supplies. Nobody would miss such an old ship so they deliberately crashed it there.
For my question: What happened to Dorel Ronah (Berah's half-brother) after the events of F91? He seems to just vanish because he isn't mentioned in any of the Crossbone manga as far as I know.

  • @genesicAura

    1) It is probably another unnamed Pegasus-Class ship
    2) If that was one of two Pegasus-Class ship on that Naval Review in 0083 when the nuke happen, it probably would be obliterated completely
    3) Again with the 0083 theory, you need to consider the distance between Solomon (Konpei Island if you are a filthy Feddie) and earth are very far so it is not likely for the ship to survive the nuke and drift towards earth and even if it did, any surviving crew members first instinct is to head to the moon or the nearby La Vie En Rose for repairs.
    4) Like most commentator said, if it survive and drifting to earth, it would be burn up instantly.
    5) So the only theory I can think of is probably this unnamed ship was shot down during the One Year War when most of the battle have shifted to space and the Federation are simply doing a sweep up of any scattered Zeon with what little forces they could spare and probably use a Pegasus-Class ship as a Propaganda Tool to frighten the Zeon forces (The White Base was pretty famous as the Trojan Horse that Char Aznable could not sank) but was shot down by Zeon forces. As you can see there are villagers there so in a tactical way of hiding their forces, the village on the ruined ship are used as a front act to fool any Federation forces trying to investigate the crash site and deem it unsalvageble (They might think the villagers got there first and already gutted it down for any scrap but in reality it is probably the Zeon Remnant who does the gutting of the ship)

Maybe the ship is already demilitarized by the trail that is seen. It explains why she is there and not being used against Torrington. It was probably cheaper leaving her there but stripped of reactor, weapons, ammo, etc than it was to do that and then scrapping her. As to how she got there; maybe a controlled crash during ANY WAR between 0079-0096.

Left this question a few times, but figure I’ll keep dropping it until I get an answer.
There are several apparent development lines between thunderbolt, the origin, and mainline canon material for both Zeon and the Federation. Is there any way to reconcile them all?
While I’m here, I thought of another one. I know Gundam has played a part in influencing the designs of several franchises, Halo being the first to spring to mind, and Pacific Rim following closely. Could you compile some of the other big names with acknowledged connections to Gundam?

  • @logicblock8783

The thing is, the state of the surface of the Earth is weird in the Universal Century due to not just the "normal" climate change, but also lots of space debris due to numerous space battles... and colony drops. There's entire sections of colony wall that can be used by rebel groups as bases, not to mention entire flooded, ruined cities. The geography itself has changed enough that world maps needed updating. So a single intact ship might not be as noticeable as one would think, especially if it's also been converted into living space by civilians.
As for the conspiracy theory that the ship was a bit of a trap? Well the Torrington base forces were getting their asses kicked until reinforcements arrived. So that was an awfully large waste or people and resources. ...Unless the theory is ALSO that the Federation did that to get rid of obsolete hardware in a way that makes requesting more resources more plausible. "Gosh, those Zeon remnants keep blowing up our leftover, old GM IIs! We just HAVE to have increased military funding for more shiny new Jestas!"
