I remember reading a long time ago that the reason the Rick-Dias has two model numbers is because Anaheim wanted to conceal the fact that they were developing mobile suits for the AEUG; Internally, it was designated MSA-099, but officially it was designated RMS-099 so as not to draw any unnecessary attention from the Titans.
Yeah. That always has been my own head canon about the Rick Dias and its two model numbers. Especially since the Gryps War hadn't really started yet when the Rick Dias was introduced at large. So it made sense to hide who the Rick Dias was actually developed for. Also I read somewhere that the Rick Dias was orginally developed for the Federation as a follow on to that of the Hi Zack but in mid development was to become an AEUG machine instead.
You know that actually makes far more sense then any other reason. It would be a tie in to some German and Russian planes which had their designer in their model number prefix.
Anyone ever notice around the Zeta period, a lot of the suits shared the Zeta chest? Driesen, Bawoo, ZZ, Zeta, even the Tristan and others have that distinct chest that comes out, red hatch, and small rectangular yellow vents. Not sure if it has to do with the moveable frame, but its interesting
I think it's because was considered as one of very successful mobile that Anaheim electronic ever built....even the neo zeon admitted that they wanted one...so they created bawoo as their own version of Zeta (notice how the chest is mirroring zeta chest and the bawoo hand is literally zeta's leg design-wise) cmiiw
Part of Zeta is the realization that most of the corporations designing mobile suits for war were in many ways working together to play both sides and profit off keep a war economy going. Not to mention tons of corporate espionage.

The *D* in D-50C Loto might mean *Downsized* since the HGUC Loto manual chose to use ダウンサイジング(downsizing) in its description over other simpler Japanese words.
I guessed the "FD" for the Gustav Karl was "Federation Designed" because it was one of their first mobile suits developed in house under the Federation as opposed to Anaheim.
If I have to guess, RMS is used for Mobile Suits produced by former Zeon engineers in Anaheim Electronics. It's clear that they were following a seperate development path from GM line with the monoeyes as clear distinction. Also they are following the legacy of Zeon Mobile Suits by keeping MS in the designations and only adding in R at the start.
In his video on those Zeon-ish suits, he said that those MS might be designed for Zeon Republic at first, only selling to the Feds after the fact Maybe the Feds add an R to the original serial number to specify they're the federation version
My guess for the Loto is its SNRI's own internal designation system. The Loto might not have a proper EFF designation on account of it being fielded by the ECOAS. Or it might have an entirely different designation. You see that a few times with military hardware, having multiple designations because of things like classification, reporting names, being known different to different branches [The M134 Minigun is called that by the US Army, while the USN/USAF/[Presumably USMC] call it the GAU-2/A]
For my novels, I took those serials to mean something, so we have the Gundams developed on Earth carrying the EMMF suffix , standing for "Earth Machine Mobile Forces", ONI's XP Gundams being "Experimental Prototypes", their mass-produced Mobile Suits are OX, "ONI Experimental", with the OX-03 Mercy being the third model! The EMMF machines got various new names! After she repainted it and added new thrusters along with OS tweaks, we went from gun metal grey flex patterns, like on US Navy Jets such as the F22 Raptor, to a red coloured with inward and down pointing dual stripes on each shoulder, the "EMMF-06S Recon Est", after her mother who she hated for abandoning her as unwanted as a baby, the red paint job a deliberate choice as, after she tracked her down as an adult she learned her mother hated the colour red (fun fact, my own mother also actually hated red as a choice for car colour, even though her middle name was Rose, but she was born in Yorkshire, the WHITE Rose County)! And cuz we always have to have a red Mobile Suit, plus the stripes are orange like the Kyrios and Arios that inspired its design! EMMF-001 Commando Gundam got "S" on the 001 and the suffix of "Stage" to denote its enhancement state, initially going from a sandy desert colour to that of the more traditional main Gundam unit of dark blue torso and head jewel, with white arms, legs and head and yellow feet (Leeds United colours)! Sticking with colour schemes, the EMMF-009 Sabotage Gundam was painted jet black like the Stealth Bomber as a homeage to its steslth capabilities, much like the Deathscythe line and Blitz were! And that is the ONLY Wing influence I will admit to and even then it's not really a Wing influence at all, if you think about it... Also, EMMF-004 Intercept was a mottled green, drawing from its own Dynames/Buster influences! The Regal Navy developed three machines too, but I haven't even written that far yet, so...
RMS mobile suits are those developed by Zeonic after being absorbed by Anaheim Electronics. RMS is a combination of Federal and Zeon nomenclature, with the R coming from the RX and RGM lines and the MS coming from Zeon's naming convention.
One theory for the number being a year off is they may use fiscal year, not calendar year. In the Air Force, out aircraft tail number had the year it was contracted. Tail 93-1563 was contracted (the contract for purchase) in 1993. But the Department or Defense uses the fiscal year, so it could have been signed from October 1992 to October 1993. The RGC-80 contract could have been signed just after the 0080 fiscal year started in the Federation, making it a 0080 model year. Just a guess though.
The FD could stand for Federal Defender. The FD-03 was heavily armoured and was used to defend critical Federation locations during Unicorn and Hathaway's Flash
These codes have meaning and relevancy with the lore tbh. Like ZGMF-X10A freedom i think means zaft gundam mobile force, Xfor experimental, the number for the specified ms unit and idk about the A.
I tried getting into Gundam but felt like these letters and numbers were the biggest obstacles keeping me away from getting any deeper into the fandom. Reading the wiki alone felt like dipping my toes into shark water lol. Thank goodness I was subscribed to you :)
More people need to see this comment. The Neue Ziel was supposed to be deployed in the OYW but it was never built, Hamman Karn took the plans to Axis who had tons of extra cash laying around and bankrolled its production before deploying it to Gato in 0083. Char's Deleted affair: PotYC ret-conned ina prior MA of this type with the AMA-00R (Zero GR) which Char Piloted to great effect. The NZ-222 Psycho Doga was original the second machine of this type but only appeared in the Novel of CCA like the Nightingale and Hi-Nu, the NZ-333 Alpha Azierieu was originally the third machine of this type but used true psycommu weaponry instead of the quasi-psychommu weapons if the original Neue Ziel. The two Neo Zeong (NZ-999/999-II) were obviously the last armors' of this type although were not developed through the same lineage and came from Anaheim and not Axis like the other machines. I don't personally count the NZ-666 Kshatriya as one of these machines as it was more of a miniaturized Queen Mansha (which was basically a cross between a Psycho Gundam and a Qubeley) and was more of a giant MS (like the QM) than an actual Mobile Armor.
Now if only they can explain why the F Type has pauldron spikes - did they really expect it to use the block and charge maneuver in the colonies? It seems suited for explicitly ground combat (J-Type’s arena).
i swear kakarot197 is my go to for any and all gundam history and info. if I forget something then its likely this amazing guy has covered it so I can easily refresh my memory. 10/10 best gundam youtuber ever
Thanx 4 explaining it! That's one heck of a rabbit hole u got yourself into explaining about the abbreviated letter designation suffixes, model numbers & version numbers or letters. I'm glad that Zeon kept it simple regardless of who made it, or where it's from.
The Zeon might have used their own calendar, but we are not as familiar with it as the Federation Universal Century (UC). In common with the Japanese calendar (e.g. 1926 for Showa, 1987 for Heisei, 2019 for Reiwa) and other similar calendars, it might have been based on the start of a person/family/faction. A possible date for the Zabi family would be UC 0068, as Z 0001. This means 1979… Oops, 0079 would be Z 0012. If MS-06 Zaku II is like RX-78 Gundam, then UC 0073…? Gundam Seed's CE 73? But that is Degwin Zabi. For Zeon Zum Deikun, UC 0052 is ZZ 0001? UC 0079 is ZZ 0028. UC 0065 is ZZ 0014. Let us not forget Star Wars' Before the Battle of Yavin (BBY) and After the Battle of Yavin (ABY).
Been following this channel for so long now , I gotta hand it to kakarot197 for clarifying this 20 something year old brain itch for me ever since I was a kid. Keep up the amazing gundam content!!
I've always wondered where the hell the names for the suits came from, especially Zeon's One Year War ones. Like...are they named for some weird Spacenoid language or... As for the Gustav Karl, it might "Federation Defense" since the GK was designed for that as far as I can tell.
Maybe the "RMS" was made by Zeonic engineers when they joined the Anaheim, since most of the MS they made had the "MS" typo they might have decided to stick with it, since most of the TITAN MSs were based on old Zeon MS.
I think RMS is the designation for mobile suits created by Zeonic engineers for the federation. They took the MS zeon suits have, and added an R to it.
Why did certain mobile suits have over emphasized body parts? And what were the purpose? E.G gm 3 knee caps and the upgraded gm nightseeker's knee caps.
Some were made to protect the joints from impact damage, act as a counter weight, and to make sure the Unit was able to crouch when there was no MS Cage Present
The amount of enrichment to my already fan crazy of the UC timeline is incredible! I am making a personal Gundam Game project using Unity3d and having these little caveats understood and known could add more immersion.
Out of universe, it's obvious that the Loto was just working backwards from the R-44 Guntank. F-50D => D-50C. In universe, I could see it being a completely unique designation because it's a special forces troop deployment unit, and not a "normal use" mobile suit. There are examples in real life of equipment intentionally being given mislabeled designations to hide their true purpose (for example, the MP 43 from World War II). I could imagine ECOAS wanting to keep their unusually tiny mobile suits a secret. For all we know, "D-50A" is the Federation's official designation for a Zero-Gee toilet, and an accountant seeing "D-50C" on an invoice wouldn't raise suspicion. But going back to model numbers, I've heard conflicting things about the Gundam's RX-78-2 designation. It's been said that there were eight Gundams produced, with the assumption there being that the number after the -78 is the unit number. Given that we know of the RX-78-1 through -7, that sort of makes sense (though we've never seen an RX-78-8). That also meant that the two Gundams destroyed in the first episode of the original show were the RX-78-1 and the -3. HOWEVER, I've also heard that the "eight Gundams" could specifically refer to there being multiple RX-78-2s. And that therefore, the units seen (and subsequently destroyed) in Mobile Suit Gundam were actually the "RX-78-2, Unit 1", "RX-78-2, Unit 2", and "RX-78-2, Unit 3". Do we know if either of these explanations (or, both, or neither) are correct?
Future question of the week or what if series: How would the events of Seed played out if different members of the La Creuset team and Jesus Kira had different suits?
My current theory for Neo Zeon is that the X is to specify their newer suit development compared to some of their other suits that were based on or upgraded OYW suits (i.e. Regelgu). I think the 0 in the front of some of their numbers also references if they were heavily based on a previous design or not. I.e. Zaku III having the 0 because its heavily based on the Zaku
I have a theory for why the Titans era Federation machines used RMS instead of RGM. Zeon units used the MS designation and since many Titans mobile suits had very Zeon esque designs it's not a big leap to assume that they were adapted from unused Zeon mobile suit plans. Maybe at one point they were meant to be Zeon suits but after they lost the war the designs went to the Federation who simply added the R in front of the existing model number of those suits and just rolled with that naming convention for a while.
Rx-1xx, Hyaku Shiki, and pretty much of the mechas in Zeta Gundam and so on can be considered as the '100 series', which is of course what "Hyaku Shiki" means in Japanese. During development of the Zeta Gundam TV series, many Mobile Suits basically went back and forth between factions, and the nature of the factions kept mutating. This leads to the concept of Anaheim Electronics being the developers of Mobile Suits for two (and more) factions against each other. AEUG themselves were originally supposed to be the military branch of Anaheim Electronics, instead of the so called 'rebels'. A Private Military Company, like Gundam 00's Celestial Being. And of course VOC / United East-Indies Company / Dutch's East-Indies Company's military.
7:47 Robot Armored Suit, RAS. Gundam and Macross regulary exchanged materials in backroom deals, it is basically the Queadluun Rau / Zentradi/Meltrandi Power Armor.
There's also the EMS series for Zeon, though the only unit that i know of is the Zudah from MS Igloo. The E probably stand for experimental, or in the Zudah's case could just as well stand for Exploding.
For the D-50C Loto I can only surmise it's this: D is an SNRI code, D-5 is an armored fighting vehicle designation, "0" is the first model of it's design, "C" is the 3rd unit. It's entirely plausible that SNRI has their own letter and number codes for this to make sense.
Ohh boi, can't wait for your next vid discussing the stuff left out here. Aside from the Formula Project line, will you go look at some of those other "short" lines like the RIX Mobile Suit series from Gundam Last Sun? Or like the RGX & RGD line from Gundam Double Fake etc. etc.?
All Mobile Suits during and after the Zeta Gundam TV series can be pretty much considered as developed by Anaheim Electronics. The different registrations might be due to the different internal factions inside AE themselves
I always figured the RMS line was signifying Zeonic designs built for Titans by sneaking their 'MS' into the model number. It made sense for the Marasai and Hizack at least.
My guess for the RMS to RGM swap is simply because if not all/future units were all very general based/easy to convert into another unit compared to the more experimental/limited produced general units that the Titans had as post Gryps, a lot of units were just based on usually a single frame, the Jegan for example, its parts were also used in the Anksha and ReZEL, so it's easy to use parts from those machines should the situation call for it. For the FD Model Number, my guess would be Federation Defender or Delta because let's be honest, a lot of times the Karl was used, it was used to defend or escort, even in Hathaway's Flash, they were used to defend Federation VIPs, so it wouldn't be surprising if these guys were meant for guard duty or spec ops (Which in honesty, they did do). Finally, about units with the D Model Number, I guess it might stand for Delta as in the special forces because the Loto, though the D-Type Jegan also has D in its model number, however that can be assumed that when used with the number could mean developed while D itself is Delta.
You should do a spot on the AU version of this question for the warship prefixes from Cosmic Era. We got the one for the Archangel Class and apparently also ones for the Laurasia and Nazca Class ships as well. Later in Destiny the Minerva gets her own prefix as well.
18:07 Rewatching Unicorn at the moment, and there's a scene in which some Feddie character muses that the captured Kshatriya's serial number must be a reference to Neo Zeon.
If I am not wrong , Anaheim absorbed a lot of zeonic engineers . The RMS designation is a homage to the continuation of their machine design and to their input . This set them apart from Federation design except for the GMII which probably fall in line with the new numbering .
What about EMS used with some of the experimental Zeon machines? I seem to remember them only on Zimmad machines but checking the wiki it was also used on Zeonic and in late UC on Jupiter Empire machines.
I think there's the possibility that "GM" is intended as a build on the term "G.I." from military usage, basically "Government Issue." GM would mean something like "Government Issue Mobile Suit." Or "Goverment Model" could also work.
The Lotto was originally a mobile suit intended for special forces right? So the D-50C could be a designation used for something else far more mundane. Like drinking water canisters or some such. Like how tanks got their name from being called water tanks.
Dunno if anyone else pointed this out but the Loto was also made by SNRI as opposed to Anaheim and for that reason may follow VERY different naming conventions than your standard Federation suit; we see this IRL with firearms having all crazy sorts of designations usually determined by the company, as opposed to the client that receives them - the US being a notable exception.
7:18 Due to copyrights and different Secret Space Program factions, not all Mobile Suits are available for use in a Gundam work. The Char's Counterattack movie can not use Zeta Gundam, so the movie replaced it with RGZ-91. Because Gundam Unicorn (Gundam UC) is sort of a reboot of Zeta Gundam, plus a sort of new 'For Begineers' Gundam work for the Universal Century timeline, it brought full force various old Mobile Suits to be included in it. Unicorn Gundam is sort of a stand-in for the 1979 Gundam, Zeta Gundam, and Nu Gundam. Of course Gundam Unicorn got tossed out pretty quickly after Gundam Build Fighters (GBF) with its GunPla battles arrived. See also Granblue Fantasy. And 'MLP'.
I've always assumed, that "RMS" is "Refined Mobile Suit," since most of the RMS designs seem to be based on Zeon's MS series. Especially since the actual number after the "RMS" tends to relate to a Zeon equivalent.
Some of the odd lettering designations from the Titans Newtype labs could also be explained by just what letter they are assigned, kind of like real life airports. PHX is for Phoenix Sky Harbor and makes since while ODR is O'Hare in Chicago and MCO is for Orlando.
In old TV commercials, 1980~1983. They are not so sure on calling a Gundam GunPla as RX-78. So this RX seems to be mostly a post production insertion, instead part of the original 1979 TV series. Gundam actually became more popular after its Tractor Series, Macross debuted in 1982.
Unicorn Gundam during the series development probably was nicknamed Anaheim Electronic's Unicorn Gundam (AEUG). Gundam Unicorn (Gundam UC) is pretty much a pseudo Zeta Gundam reboot. With Full Frontal replacing Quattro.
I think the RAS-96 is Renpo Arial Support since the Anksha can carry other mobile suits, like a base jabber, and the Asshimar has a different designation.
AMS and MSA are basically the same, but different ordering. Advanced Mobile Suit and Mobile Suit Advanced. Much like the Unicorn Gundam and Gundam Unicorn thing, and other similar stuff. MSA is also the initials of Modern Sciences and Arts, in terms of university.
8:39 FD, Floppy Disk. Like Star Wars' ARC-170, it was named after the Data Medium it was delivered upon. This is actually quite common. Granblue Fantasy's Draf/Draph was named after the Draft (DO-RA-FU-to) Graphic Data. Draf is also the Indonesian equivalent of Draft. Then there are Fantasista Dolls (FSD) and Photoshop Data (PSD), see also Phantasy Star and Puyo Puyo. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic & My Little Pony: Equestria Girls had Flash (e.g. Flash Data, Flash Drive, FD). Flash Sentry guarded them. See also Secret Space Program, along with The Simpsons' "The Book Job" and Futurama's "Yo Leela Leela".
D-50C could be Deployment-50-Carrier/Convoy as its A. a mobile suit that deploys troops/spec ops and B. we see it mainly in groups or Convoys while the FD-03 could stand for Fed. Defense-03 with it mainly being a defensive mobile suit in Unicorn and Narrative guarding both the earth laser base and transporting high rank prisoners and possibly Hathaway's flash as well but i have yet to see it
With the exception of the GM II the RMS suits seem to be "Zeon style" with mono-eyes, etc. My assumption was always that they were designed or constructed by the former Zeon contractors Zeonic and Zimmand. In that case RMS suits would just be the the Zeon MS series continued under Federation management.
Alright. I actually know a bit on this one. R is for RenpouGun or Federation Army X is for eXperimental RMS is for Federation mobile suits worked on by former Zeonic designers. Many who got purged after the end of the Titans. G is for General use M is for mass produced C is for cannon types AMX is for Axis Military experimental.
"I personally think "RX" stands for "Rex" ("king" in Latin) which was what the Shodai Gundam practically was in 0079. Also, "RB" means "Orb" which is a synonym for "sphere", the Ball's shape.
EMS,which was used for the Zudah Standard and F type, and for the Agg,Azock, and a few others, is still in the air MS definitely means mobile suit, but the extra E is,to my knowledge, unknown
EMS is also used for the Erebado, the Batalla,Pez Batalla,Arana Batalla,Lalo,Tortuga,Bailarina, Desphys, and Phantom Gundam, but these aren't connected as the Pez Batalla and Zudah share the same model number but were used 54 years apart
The Loto is made by the SNRI. So to me it would mean that the D designation is a precursor to the F series. Within the F series the first number discribes the role of the mobile suit 9 means general purpose, 7 means support and 5 would probably be a guntank type or police use model. The second number is sequencial starting at 0. so the D50 is most likely the first unit in the D5 series.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the idea of naming MS after year of development was something that Gundam took from Imperial Japan's tradition of naming their vehicles in similar way.
The 00 series are related to James Bond (Agent 007) and Cyborg 009. See also 0079 and Gundam 00. MSN-00100 implied that the Hyaku Shiki belongs in both the 00 series and the 100 series.
Great work, I didn’t know the meaning behind any of the model numbers lol and here I thought I was a true gundam geek. But it makes a lot of sense well sometimes, but it helps to understand this to also help create your own custom mobile suit model designation. Also want to add a sort of obscure micro question, were the white dingo team’s classic dark gray colors just specific only to their team? Or we’re all Australian EFF mobile suit teams that color?
For the D-50C it could be the case of using a manufacturer industrial designation in lieu or pending a formal one. An example would be the Type-62 used by the PLA/PRC which has an alternative designation of WZ-131. Becuase the suit is used by ECOAS they might be using a industrial designation as a cover and to aide in deniability. Naturally everyone knows its a Federation mobile suit but because it doesnt have an offical Feddie designation it cant be easily tied to them. Or due to the machine being manufactured by SNRI it could also just be an in house name that made its way to general use. Some guns and regular equipment today have some pretty funny acronyms or names for weird, dumb, or lazy reasons.
The Model letters "AMX" may possibly be a reference to the French combat vehicle design and manufacturer Atelier de Construction d'Issy-les-Moulineaux (AMX). Early Gundam series often drew inspiration from the World War military aesthetics and equipment names. The real world AMX was born from the post WW2 nationalization and unification of multiple design firms and factories, not to the reunification and focusing of Neo Zeon.
Honestly. Cosmic Era model numbers are not all that confused. We got the GAT series for that of the Earth Alliance machines, ZGMF for ZAFT machines, MBF/MVF for Orb machines, and the Eurasian got the CAT series prefix. Pretty simple in my mind. Though I do admit some of the side story ZAFT machine model prefix letters do kind of get crazy.
~X-055 is a code for shared development with Macross (a.k.a. MaX). ~Cr-OSS / ~Xr-OSS / ~C-OSS Gundam and Macross (plus others) regulary shared materials with each other, especially after MBS aired Gundam Seed (MBS had difficulties on North American & European contracts for Macross). Macross can be considered as Gundam's 'Tractor Series'. Zeta Gundam is basically 'Macross Redux', the Gundam series mostly followed Zeta Gundam than the original 1979 series. Then there are My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic & My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, whose partners include Gundam Unicorn (UC) and Macross Delta (2015, same year as Friendship Games). See also Macross 15 (Macross Fifteen), originally meant as the 15th anniversary in 1997. Tabitha St. Germain and Rebecca Shoichet also voiced for Gundam Seed. Currently unseen Gundam AC and its Alicorn Gundam are related to Gundam Wing and After Colony. Winged Unicorn. See also the Ace Combat 7 submarine. Secret Space Program.

Nope. RMS, Titans version. It is just a product code for clients. Boeing did with their xxx. 747-2xx example. The last two goes for the airliners.
Which is hilarious since everyone at that point would know Anaheim was building suits and tech for both sides got Years
See, I always assumed the R in RX-78 stood for “Ray”, since Tem Ray was a head engineer for project V, and the R just kinda stuck ever since
Ray Experimental, Year 0078. Makes sense.
Legit never thought of that till now. The pompous prick! New headcanon achieved!
Perfect
You know that actually makes far more sense then any other reason. It would be a tie in to some German and Russian planes which had their designer in their model number prefix.
I thought the RX stood for Research eXperimental

I think the "o" indicates where they were developed, in this case Oakland.
In his video on those Zeon-ish suits, he said that those MS might be designed for Zeon Republic at first, only selling to the Feds after the fact
Maybe the Feds add an R to the original serial number to specify they're the federation version
My guess for the Loto is its SNRI's own internal designation system. The Loto might not have a proper EFF designation on account of it being fielded by the ECOAS. Or it might have an entirely different designation. You see that a few times with military hardware, having multiple designations because of things like classification, reporting names, being known different to different branches [The M134 Minigun is called that by the US Army, while the USN/USAF/[Presumably USMC] call it the GAU-2/A]
D for Diminutive since it's the first compact MS?
Just a hunch but I think that this video was recorded a bit ago, because the MG Dom is still in his backlog chair
Maybe the earlier part of the video was, cause the kits changed later on
One theory for the number being a year off is they may use fiscal year, not calendar year.
This feels like that feeling i had with math having letters
These codes have meaning and relevancy with the lore tbh.
Like ZGMF-X10A freedom i think means zaft gundam mobile force, Xfor experimental, the number for the specified ms unit and idk about the A.
@@marksayosmejia7251 The letters after the numbers usually denote the "version" of that unit.
@@echos5823 really? Cool!
Maybe the Loto gets a different model number scheme since it was manufactured by SNRI like later UC EFF suits?
Actually, NZ could also stand for "Neue Ziel", as the mobile units of this designation can trace their lineage to the AMX-002 Neue Ziel.
I tried getting into Gundam but felt like these letters and numbers were the biggest obstacles keeping me away from getting any deeper into the fandom. Reading the wiki alone felt like dipping my toes into shark water lol. Thank goodness I was subscribed to you :)
???: Tell us what the numbers mean, Mason!
Mason: AAAAAAHHHHHHH!
Mason = Me, when figuring out Laptop model names
The NZ in the giant mobile armors' model designations stands for Neue Ziel (the name of the original beast) and is German for New Goal
@@Saved_Sinner0085 thank you for all the info! I’ve been a diehard fan for over 30 years now and never realized that.
this is why Zeon is superior. Their mobile suit numbers are simple
MS- Mobile Suit
06- Number
J- Type (Ground Type)
Zaku II- (Name)
Now if only they can explain why the F Type has pauldron spikes - did they really expect it to use the block and charge maneuver in the colonies? It seems suited for explicitly ground combat (J-Type’s arena).
Sieg Zeon
@@koushiro86 Well you can ram enemies using momentum in space with that shoulder spike.

i swear kakarot197 is my go to for any and all gundam history and info. if I forget something then its likely this amazing guy has covered it so I can easily refresh my memory.
What causes beam based weapons colour to change? E.G green, red, pink and or yellow.
I've always wondered where the hell the names for the suits came from, especially Zeon's One Year War ones.
Like...are they named for some weird Spacenoid language or...
As for the Gustav Karl, it might "Federation Defense" since the GK was designed for that as far as I can tell.
Well RMS might have something to do with the fact that theyre based on zeonic design philosophy
I think the name for FD-03 means Federation Destroyer due to it being heavily armored.
My assumption was Federation Defender due to it being seen in escort and defense duties.
9:56
>prefering the novel ver instead of the G Generation/Unicron one
Finally a man of culture I could relate to
I have a theory for why the Titans era Federation machines used RMS instead of RGM.
This is quality content
This is the most *valuable* info for Gundam Fans. Thank you Thank you~!
Ersatz, it's German
Oh, good. Not an April Fools one.
Also what about part 3? Since the title has 3 in it.
@@nikoladedic6623 I'm anticipating that someone will ask about the AU modelnumbers, which will then be part 3
What about EMS used with some of the experimental Zeon machines? I seem to remember them only on Zimmad machines but checking the wiki it was also used on Zeonic and in late UC on Jupiter Empire machines.
The most surprising part to me is that the numbers are actually for the place of developement

I was told that one of the creators of the show had a mazda rx-7 and named the gundam after it
D-50C Loto is a troop carrier, so the "C" is probably designating it as a personnel carrier.
than D is for destroyer.
I love all your videos
I believe RMS designation was due to the mobile suits being derived from captured Zeon blueprints, which as you say used MS.
This is probably already stated somewhere but the FF in models normally stands for Fixed Flight Unit
D-50C could be Deployment-50-Carrier/Convoy as its A. a mobile suit that deploys troops/spec ops and B. we see it mainly in groups or Convoys
while the FD-03 could stand for Fed.
Everyday is a good day when kakarot197 uploads a video
AMA, Advanced Mobile Armor. I think that one is pretty clear. Mobile Armor tend to be quite big, advanced ones, well…
Alright. I actually know a bit on this one.
R is for RenpouGun or Federation Army
X is for eXperimental
RMS is for Federation mobile suits worked on by former Zeonic designers. Many who got purged after the end of the Titans.
G is for General use
M is for mass produced
C is for cannon types
AMX is for Axis Military experimental.
Also as for thr Loto. DC is Development Code used by SNRI
R normally stands for regulation. From a military standpoint.
"I personally think "RX" stands for "Rex" ("king" in Latin) which was what the Shodai Gundam practically was in 0079. Also, "RB" means "Orb" which is a synonym for "sphere", the Ball's shape.
EMS,which was used for the Zudah Standard and F type, and for the Agg,Azock, and a few others, is still in the air
MS definitely means mobile suit, but the extra E is,to my knowledge, unknown
E could also mean experimental, like with the RX,but I dont know of any other Zeon suits using E for experimental
EMS is also used for the Erebado, the Batalla,Pez Batalla,Arana Batalla,Lalo,Tortuga,Bailarina,
Desphys, and Phantom Gundam, but these aren't connected as the Pez Batalla and Zudah share the same model number but were used 54 years apart
Good old Zeon for keeping things simple
The Loto is made by the SNRI. So to me it would mean that the D designation is a precursor to the F series. Within the F series the first number discribes the role of the mobile suit 9 means general purpose, 7 means support and 5 would probably be a guntank type or police use model. The second number is sequencial starting at 0. so the D50 is most likely the first unit in the D5 series.
RGC could also be Rengou Gun Carriage/Carrier as some long distances armor is sometimes referred to as a gun Carriage
Correct me if I'm wrong but the idea of naming MS after year of development was something that Gundam took from Imperial Japan's tradition of naming their vehicles in similar way.
Correct. F, X, and Y are similar to USAF's Fighter, eXperimental, and prototYpe. YMS, prototYpe Mobile Suit. AMX, Advanced Mobile suit eXperimental.
For a sec there I was worried this was a 20-min long april fools video
Maybe Augusta got the “O” prefix like you said, leaving Oakland stuck with “N”.
Bro, I was literally thinking about this a few days ago.
Great. I'll be thinking of this everytime i see a gunpla box then.
For the D-50C, I know that in a lot of military units D refers to a heavy weapons company.🤷🏼♂️
The 00 series are related to James Bond (Agent 007) and Cyborg 009. See also 0079 and Gundam 00. MSN-00100 implied that the Hyaku Shiki belongs in both the 00 series and the 100 series.
Lotto was one of the first mobile suits to be smaller and it was used special operations capacities The d could stand for diminutive or deep cover
Very informative
RGM - Renpou General Model
RMS - Renpou MS (developed on a Zeonic technology basis, like the Zeon MS, but with the R).
Oh boy I can’t wait till he gets to SEED 🤣🤣
@@echos5823 cause all the model numbers in SEED/SEED Destiny are wild and literally every piece of equipment has a name
