Kakarot I have to correct your statement in 11:02, they're actually 2 Gundam F89 unit produced, and each of them had it's own color distinction the one is the normal gundam color scheme and escort the F90 test missions (F90FF Vol 2-4), and the unit 2 had the regular test color scheme, and it managed to find it's new master and modified as the mobile suit we know....the Anchor V1-4 from crossbone dust.
If you're including model numbers/names from Build Fighters/Divers then that'll probably need it's own video. Every builder has their own naming scheme and most involve wordplay/puns. One example being KUMA-03 Beargguy-III, with the word San being interchangeable with both "Three" and "Mr."
UC originally didn't have model numbers they were made up later when the films came out by Bandai for the model kits I believe the MSV and MSX models are what pushed them in to use before Zeta since all the new sub models needed separate codes and aircraft style letter codes worked. There used on other equipment like tanks but UC used Aircraft style model code structures. With the first set of letters before the dash being the model series middle number the model number a letter added for a sub model, a third dash and number if the unit is a prototype and it's a different revision of the unit. LM used US tank style model codes.
The Y in the YMS prefix is actually easy, since it has real world usage. When the US Air Force goes through its design process, planes in the early prototype phase get the X prefix. Final competition designs get the Y prefix. From what I see, the usage here is the same. The Y prefix probably denotes a complete prototype that has finished its design and testing, yet hasn't been slated for mass production.
And for the hildolfer the Y for final prototype makes sense Cuz in SD Gundam G Generation Genesis In the MS Igloo series, the Hildolfer is in the final testing phase
@@KurtDaronPRivo You might want to check again, the N stands for "Next Type" and does not seem to involve psycho frame, the Next Type adds melee funnels which presumably has at least a Psycommu system.
Very recently in the F90FF manga the F90 N-type was revealed. It stands for "Next Type", the F90 is docked by a "Hull Fighter" which adds numerous melee funnels that are essentially beam dagger bits controlled by either the main F90 pilot or the pilot of the fighter now docked into the F90.
I had just realized that the F90N was a real thing already. I play Gundam breaker mobile and remember it being released in the game. And no it definitely was a nuke type. Next type is correct.
@Shadow Hyperion To me the RX-99 feels like a riff on the competition's F90III-Y Cluster Gundam due to them both having very similar core block systems. But I could def see the F90 NextType being the stepping stone for both.
F90K "Keep" is probably referencing a castle's keep, or the most heavily defended part of a fortress. Basically the fallback point if everything else was taken.
Another option for the F90J's "Jacket" designation is that of a "dust jacket," like what the Xamel and some Doms like the Tropen and Funf have at joints. It may be a desert type then.
F90 N-Type and F90 L-Type got models in the GBGW mobile game. The N-Type docks with a hull fighter that allows it to transform and adds several funnels that generate beam blades. The L-Type has a long-range rifle and sniper equipment.
I'm surprised you remembered G-Saviour, even Bandai wanted to forget that. I'd imagine this will at least be a 4 part, Seed went overboard on just the anime cannon suits.
It got referenced in Build Fighters, so... Seriously, that's the kit he goes away and builds for himself so he has more than jus the Build Strike and Build Mk. II to fly! That and so he can say he has one for himself!
One idea about why Zudah is designated as EMS rather than YMS is because YMS models are made by Zeonic while Zudah are made by Zimad. Two different company that at the time competes for the bid to mass produce zeon mainline MS. With the competition was between Zaku I and EMS-04 the OG Zudah. And since Zeonic won the bid due to Zuda's "fireworks" making the YMS Naming for Experimental units being used all the time since from there on Zimad is out of the picture until EMS-10 Zudah Rebranding comes around
You mentioned the use of Y as a model number prefix, that could simply be the writers using existing real life model prefix designations. The US military does this with aircraft that is in the testing faze prior to full production. For example, the F-22 Raptor was designated YF-22 prior to it's actual introduction into service, just a thought. BTW, love your videos Kakarot.
I figured the N on the F90N stood for "Newtype" and added psycoframe and remote weaponry. Narrative showed that psycommu tech was outlawed/taboo after the Unicorns stopped Gryps II and the psyco shard from the Neo Zeong. It wouldn't be the first time the Federation experimented with ethically dubious technology.
About the F-5 numbers: The Guntank R-44 was actually a prototype developed by Anaheim. The only thing it had to do with SNRI was that it was pretty much a direct copy of the Loto. So, I don’t think it counts as part of the Formula Project. Also the F90N showed up in Gundam Breaker Mobile, though IIRC it looks like one of the other forms instead.
If I had to hazard a guess the League Militaire's thruster count is either an engine/drive count, or, as you said, a cluster count. The 'cluster' being whatever a computer would group together. So the back thrusters were operated in unison, and the leg thrusters would also be operated in unison (which makes 0 sense for controlling a giant robot, but neither do giant robots, so fair enough I guess)
13:10 K is for "keep" - I'd read it as the keep relating to the main tower inside a castle, the inner castle. Which makes sense when you consider the field generators as fortifications around it.
@Kakarot197 To comment about the SD-VB03A, it would stand for Support Device - Victory Base 03 Assault. Since this device is used as an attachment which attachments are support devices but if you want a second name for the SD classification could be Secondary Device, but I am sticking with my first classification as it makes more sense. Much like a gun, an attachment like a scope, extendable mag, and many others are meant to support our soldier's capabilities. Whether it is to shoot from a longer distance to lasting longer in a fight without needing to reload.
pretty sure the SD in the V-Dash model number stands for Support Dasher because it was made to improve the Victory Gundam against BESPA ever-increasing new models of mobile suits. Also doesn't help that it's classified when in that form as a Heavy Assault mobile suit which considering the armaments the Overhang pack gives, it wouldn't be surprising if it was giving out support fire and dashing away.
We actually do know what the L type equipment for F90 series is. It was never equipped to the F90 itself but instead the F90II and has a vintage kit. Edit: Also, we have seen the N type as well! It was featured in Gundam Breaker Mobile a few months back.
My guess for the Consent naming scheme is that the second letters mean Corps (for the C, as they are the suits used by regular soldiers) and Arsenal (for the A because the MW and MS Rai are heavily-armed mechs), and the fourth letters mean Stationed (for mechs that's manned with a human pilot) and Weapon (for the unmanned mechs).
The GM, Guncannon, and Guntank all had the monoeye or single main camera because it was easier to aim the mobile suits weapons. Both Amero and Sayla point this out in the original series it is even brought up in the novelized One Year war that the Gundam's weapons were tough to aim with at first. The reason the Gundam units had two eyes was it gave them more human features to ease members of the public.
An A or a C in a G-Saviour model number could have A meaning Ace,with C meaning Common,as the Bugu is more of a mass produced and common mobile suit than the MS-Rai,which is more of an ace mobile suit
If Gundam Battle Gunpla Warfare is to be believed, then The F90 N Type is a Newtype use pack.(I happen to have a F90 N type in game and if I knew how to take pics of the screen on my phone I would.) But since the game is based on the different model kits I think we got a preview of the F90N in game. Could be wrong though. But thought I would drop this info here.
The J type F90’s name is likely referring to a heat shielding jacket. My guess is it was designed for operating in hot conditions. Alternatively the jacket is for radiation shielding, but I’m more inclined to believe it’s the former given there’s a Totally-not-a-nuke-carrying-N-type
You forgot about gaia gear and mad wang. The lighnovel/audiodrama with the protag being a clone of Char Aznable. (I Know that they are man-machines and not mobile suits in gaia gear)
If Bandai sticks with theF90Y being the third unit that will make me so happy when it comes out. The Cluster Gundam, F90-III or F90Y, was my first gunpla. I would be fantastic to show in a lineup of all three units from their first release model kits to the new Master Grade of which I'm only missing the MG of the F90Y.
Not sure if this has been said before in the prior video, but given the idea of the EFF using the US army Fiscal year for things like the GM cannon. It may be possible different branches of the federation (Army, airforce, navy etc.) Used different numbers and such to designate their suits completely independant of numbers used by their counterparts. For example the Air forces F4, F100, F104, and so on, then we have the navy with its A4, F8, A7, F9, F3 etc. Things later on like the RMS designation may have been an attempt by higher ups trying to make things far easier to understand and unify some conventions.
Gustav Karl as a PURPOSE designed Escort and Protection unit, the design makes relative sense The bulkier size is meant to have it serve as a visual and physical blockade, so beam weapons or guided munitions wouldn't have an easy time sniping a vehicle it's escorting or giving cover for. The extra chonk also means it can have heavier armor to allow it to offer cover in case VIP needs to be moved away but the MS itself is not able to open fire (such as a terrorist strike in Urban areas during an event with too many high profile figures), EFF wouldn't risk MS size Beam weapons nor "Machineguns" be fired if it risks killing VIPs due to collateral damage from the size of the bullets/beams, so a chonkier feet and torso enables it to offer Heavy MS armor protection instead
I was about to issue a correction on a picture of the F90L not being available, and then realized that they haven't shown it, but there is an F90II-L that even has a model kit (which I have, and is surprisingly good for an older kit).
The RGM/RMS split be a similar practice in the Federation to the US Military when it came to designating their aircraft. Where the Air Force had one way and the Navy had another. An example would be the F-4 Phantom II, before 1962 (when they switched to a new multiservice designation system) the Air Force called it the F-110 while the Navy called it the F4H. Which would also explain GM II having both the RGM-79R and RMS-179 designation. RMS-179 being for Mobile Suits used by the Titans and RGM-79R by the standard Federation Forces.
Lol, also, thinking about it the Victory naming convention likely makes the most sense and contains the most important info in its numbering system. It's also one the most confusing initially.
I was completely unaware of Mars Zeon! Those are some nice-looking suits, though most of them could be made with a standard Zeon kit and a few extra parts and scribed panel lines.
The F90 really reminds me of that old cartoon The Centurions. Now I wish there was a F90 show where it changes it Mission Pack just like in that cartoon.
I shall pray for your sanity, Kakarot197. Good luck in your herculean quest to define all of the MS model numbers that have appeared throughout the Gundam franchise.
Why do they to with decommissioned mobile suits are they sold to the public, dismantled, or held on to for part? Huge fan I hope this make it to next week's question of the week
I know they are paying you to say so. But Raid Shadow Legends only "took the internet by storm" because they paid people to advertise the hell out of it. I've literally never heard anyone talk about the game based on its own merit. More on topic, I like the idea for the Loto being that it was a bogus model number meant to help keep the machine secret. Also holy cow, G-Savior. I tried to forget that happened. lol
there is also the possability that the GM designation just ment "General MobileSuit" as there is a chance the federation just combined mobile suit into a single word designation which militaries have ben known to do. it could also just be "general mobile" i guess but i think the first is more likely
There is an image for the L pack but it was on the F90II instead of the F90, also I think the F90N is the Next Type which has Funnel hence N for Newtype
Speaking of Alternate Universes Mobile Suit, I was wondering why Gundams from Gundam 00 switch naming schemes. Gundam Exia to 00 Gundam. The first season Gundams have Gundam in front but after that, all Gundams have Gundam at the back.
The third digit of the LM series mobile suits more likely refers to the number of main propulsion rocket engines. It's a common misconception to equate the number of rocket nozzles/combustion cambers to the number of rocket motors. For example, the construction the real life RD-170 rocket engine uses four combustion cambers but they all share a single turbopump. Thus LM111E02 uses a single engine on it's back and the LM312V04 uses an engine on it back and another on the back skirt. Also, your use of the term thruster is a bit misleading as it also could refer to elements of a reaction control system; however, I'll chalk this use to the translator not being that familiar with English rocket science terminology.
R means Renpo. Which is Japanese for Federation. GM means Gundam Mass Production. During the OYW and before Z Gundam the number after Federation MS means the year it came out. In Zeta the number meaning changes and it means the location on Earth that the MS was made. Thus, RGM-79 means Gundam Mass production 79. In RX the X means experimental.
why do i feel like F90 Z or F0 is something gonna retconned into a Psychoframe F90 as for Victory's Overhang pack, i assume the SD stands for Support-Detachable its a support part that does detach.. but wonder why V2 Buster parts dont get same designation? that's probably because it doesnt have its own thrusters
Anaheim Electronics fell because of the MSA-120 (MSA-0120), in favor of the SNRI's Formula project. Without the creation of the Silhouette Gundam (RXF-91), then the League Militarie would have not been formed in UC0152 - 0153.
Well, we now know that the F90 W Type is like the P Type, except the transformation from MS to jet mode is very similar to the Wing Gundam's transformation
I have a question, we know the RX and the number mean, like RX-93 v Gundam aka Nu Gundam, base on your explanation before , it means federation experimental unit built in U.C.0093, and it match, so my question is, what about Unicorn? the model for Unicorn is RX-0, or RX-9 Narrative Gundam which is the prototype unit of Nu Gundam and basically an armorless Nu Gundam? what is the number mean?
Unicorn is a classified unit that was left in the care of the Vist Foundation, so I’m guessing that RX-0 was just a way of excluding it from the official list of prototype machines. The Unicorn and Banshee seem to mainly be deployed at the behest of the secret society members of the Vist family, so they have no reason to bother operating within official Federation number schemes. They aren’t part of the normal military. If the three RX-0 machines were ever intended to be offically adopted by the EFSF, I guess they’d technically be redesignated as RX-95, which matches the year they were completed. As for the Narrative, the RX-9 is probably just a result of them lopping the “3” off the end of the planned Nu Gundam model number, to distinguish the two. Narrative was never intended to be anything more than an unfinished test machine to help develop the Nu, so they gave it a similar but abbreviated model number. Its not like it was ever going to be made part of the official sequence of units, so RX-9 just seems to be a handy nickname or placeholder.
There was another outlier you didn't explain in part- the "0" in RX-0. The "RX" makes perfect sense, but the "0" doesn't follow the standard year based numbering of other RX units, as it didn't start development until after the events of CCA (UC 0093), and it can't have been the location based numbering of the titans era because the RX-0 didn't start development until years after the fall of the titans and the abolishment of the location based numbering system. Anyone have any ideas for this one?
You can check out part 1 to get up to speed right here: ruclips.net/video/qngRdEhIOcA/видео.html

Oh yeah chronologically VSBR concept was first introduced in F89 optional parts, and for the record it'll overheat the cannon after 3 continuous shot.

Cause at least Seed does have a lot of model number

Sometimes I feel that they just add whatever numbers and letters look cool together and then they come up with what it means
The same applies for U.S. armed forces. Come up with a pronounceable acronym first then make up what it means (JDAM, MOAB, LOSAT, etc.)
UC originally didn't have model numbers they were made up later when the films came out by Bandai for the model kits I believe the MSV and MSX models are what pushed them in to use before Zeta since all the new sub models needed separate codes and aircraft style letter codes worked. I bet Raid: Shadow Legends was also developed by Anaheim Electronics
I will not play it until they have GUSTAV KARL as a Tank character🤣
Probably at the behest of Titans

13:57 Newtype
This is a minefield of dangerous answers.
The N-type was revealed in the new f90 manga series, the N does stand for Newtype but due to the controversy of the psycoframe its hidden as Nuclear.

EMS-05 "Aug"...as in short for auger, a drill like excavation tool?
I was completely unaware of Mars Zeon! Those are some nice-looking suits, though most of them could be made with a standard Zeon kit and a few extra parts and scribed panel lines.
I think you forgot to mention the Messer from Hathaway's Flash. Also in the G-Savior section, you forgot the Guppy.
11:10 I think we found another mass production machine that became better known as an ace machine for the late uc.
The F90 really reminds me of that old cartoon The Centurions. Now I wish there was a F90 show where it changes it Mission Pack just like in that cartoon.
13:49 "I wonder what illegal to use weapon could possibly--"
F90 : I'm gonna say the N-word.
Cant wait for an rx-420 gundam
I shall pray for your sanity, Kakarot197. Good luck in your herculean quest to define all of the MS model numbers that have appeared throughout the Gundam franchise.
Why do they to with decommissioned mobile suits are they sold to the public, dismantled, or held on to for part? Huge fan I hope this make it to next week's question of the week
Some like the hizacks are stripped of all weapons and systems and sold to civilians
When I heard F0 gundam my brain immediately thought of a Gundam modeled to look like Captain Falcon...
Blue Falcon Gundam, lol. F90 mixed with Blue Destiny
The SD stands for supplemental device I remember seeing that awhike ago
Any chance N in F90N could stand for Newtype? None of the rest of the packs use any Newtype weaponry like funnels unless I missed them.
Or plot armor
@Henry Manalo I called it?
I've been watching Gundam since the early 80's. I don't remember where I heard it, but I've always thought that GM stood for "Gundam Mass-produced".
I tried to forget that happened. lol
We all try to forget G-Saviour, but we never will
Loving these videos! Can't wait for the next one!
there is also the possability that the GM designation just ment "General MobileSuit" as there is a chance the federation just combined mobile suit into a single word designation which militaries have ben known to do. it could also just be "general mobile" i guess but i think the first is more likely
The F90N might also be yet another NT-D system-equipped machine.
wait, i thought GM was short for "Gundam Mass production" arent many GMs watered down versions of the gundam anyway?
There is an image for the L pack but it was on the F90II instead of the F90, also I think the F90N is the Next Type which has Funnel hence N for Newtype
I like the theory that implies the Federation employs some cork sniffer to tell which GMs are a little sus.
Speaking of Alternate Universes Mobile Suit, I was wondering why Gundams from Gundam 00 switch naming schemes.
Gundam Exia to 00 Gundam. The first season Gundams have Gundam in front but after that, all Gundams have Gundam at the back.
N is for Noa
Bright's hand is a top secret weapon
How has there never been a fan question to someone that worked on the shows on what these mean? Or at least for "GM"..
Also, your use of the term thruster is a bit misleading as it also could refer to elements of a reaction control system; however, I'll chalk this use to the translator not being that familiar with English rocket science terminology.
you mad man............you did it.....you actually did it
R means Renpo.
I always thought GM stood for "Gundam Mass-produced".
why do i feel like F90 Z or F0 is something gonna retconned into a Psychoframe F90
as for Victory's Overhang pack, i assume the SD stands for Support-Detachable its a support part that does detach..
but wonder why V2 Buster parts dont get same designation? that's probably because it doesnt have its own thrusters
YMX-01X
The ultimate in Experimental-ness.
Excited for the Cosmic Era to be covered.
Anaheim Electronics fell because of the MSA-120 (MSA-0120), in favor of the SNRI's Formula project. Without the creation of the Silhouette Gundam (RXF-91), then the League Militarie would have not been formed in UC0152 - 0153.
12:00 Nice
FD-03 Federal Defender, it’s perfect! Any ideas why it’s called Gustav Karl?
When the creator didn't care, they really going wild with the V-Gundam model numbers
The SD in the Victory Gundam's Overhang Packs stand for Support Device
There was another outlier you didn't explain in part- the "0" in RX-0. The "RX" makes perfect sense, but the "0" doesn't follow the standard year based numbering of other RX units, as it didn't start development until after the events of CCA (UC 0093), and it can't have been the location based numbering of the titans era because the RX-0 didn't start development until years after the fall of the titans and the abolishment of the location based numbering system. Anyone have any ideas for this one?
Because it held the origin of the universal century which should have been U.C:0
The Keep in F90K probably means something like the keep in a castle.
2 vids in 1 day? I can get used to this
