  • After a relentless team effort to fix a terrible car, Jeff would shock everyone by going on to utterly dominate at the Brickyard, leading 124 of 161 laps (77%) en route to his fourth win at Indy.

    Those last 15 or so laps of that race I remember had me so nervous just because he hit that’s piece of debris and chipped the right front fender.

    Look at that crowd. Listen to those engines. Man, idk if it was because I was 10, but 2004 seemed like such a better/simpler/more fun time watching racing. If only we knew how good we had it when we did… it was too big to fail.

    Just look how full the grandstands are back then. Huge track and not an open seat all around the track.

      I agree with you to a point. They had worked well together during most of their time together. In 1999, they were having a "bad" season, with "only" 5 wins and multiple DNFs and this was coming off an unbelievable 13 win season plus 26 top 5s and 28 top 10s, I think.
      Frustration set in during 99 and Ray knew there was nothing they could do to measure up to the 98 season. Thankfully he left the team when he did. We don't know what kind of toxicity would had come from it had he stayed. Too many bridges would have been burnt and they wouldn't have the stronger relationship they still have to this day.
      Only if they found a way to keep it like the 98 season would they have kept winning even more, but then I feel like it would have taken a toll in another way. There may have been a burnout among multiple team members and things may not have been appreciated as much.
      As disappointed as I was when Ray and Jeff's team split, in hindsight, it was the best thing for everyone, including the competition.
      Just some of my thoughts on it.

      Immortal you’re wrong. I remember back in 2015, NASCAR on NBC was doing NBC throwback races on NBCSN prior to their coverage return for the July 2015 race at Daytona. And they actually showed a widescreen footage of the 2004 Brickyard 400. It wasn’t cropped or stretched, it was a perfect 16:9 frame they put out.

      Immortal it was the only video I could find my friend. But you can tell it was in 16:9 because as Jeff Gordon was coming down the front stretch for the checker flag, you can see more of Kasey Kahne’s car in the background in 4th place. The 4:3 footage doesn’t give you that.

    • @anthonydeloreto3881
      @anthonydeloreto3881 4 года назад

      Immortal I’m telling you that there was a widescreen version of this because I remember watching it on NBCSN back in 2015! Even I was shocked to see something like that exist in 2004 because I had always thought it came out a few short years later! It’s the truth! You got to believe me!

      I don't think he was supposed to stop on the track and get out, he was supposed to have driven it straight to VL so they were a bit peeved at him for that, I doubt Jeff cared though, he celebrated his way and it was awesome.
