Keep in mind many of us are living vicariously thru y’all so what you may think is boring is interesting to us to watch what is involved in day to day life to survive the winter and off grid daily life.
I would like to see the RV restoration video. We are doing a Skoolie and I like getting ideas on what to do about storage areas. Great video Thanks for sharing
Hey! We did check out your skoolie build months ago when you let us know about it, how Is your progress coming along with the bus and moving to Alaska? Hope all is going well. We did a conversion on a Goshen bus many years ago using a free camper that we demolished for all the cabinet doors, and most of the utilities inside to keep the project low budget. It is a big undertaking starting from a shell. We found it took a lot of planning and can get expensive fast. The only reason we sold our bus was that it had the nonlockup 545 Allison transmission which is not good for hauling heavy trailers in the mountains. Otherwise, we might have brought it to Alaska to live in temporarily. We have a video coming out today about the RV restoration, hope you enjoy it!
Greetings from Perth, Western Australia (basically a desert). No matter how boring and dark your videos seem to be, they are ultimately consumable and loved by people who don't have what you have. Just be yourselves and vlog your lives... you have a great formula; capable young people who don't whinge about hardship.
Hello! I can see that, we often find entertainment in things that are much different than our reality. Great perspective. And can agree on the whinge, or complaining/ begging about hardships instead of doing something about it. That would be very off-putting content. Thank you for your support!
Same here in South Australia, but we are fixing up a farmhouse and neglected garden and orchard. Difference is we are retired, so physical limitations and health hiccups abound. Look forward to your videos, keep up the good work, and stay safe
You guys are very blessed to get to do this but also there’s not a better time to do it while you’re still young and can enjoy the entire journey. Thank you for taking us along on this journey.
Love your channel and you two are amazing .Keep the videos coming and you guys have a beautiful property. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. You two have done what a lot of us wish we could do,relocating and having a beautiful piece of land with great freedom. Have a prosperous week and stay safe you two.
Thx for the video, I am glad for this history lesson. Don't feel like you have to show everything, but your building the house, coop, solar array, etc. - yes! I am 70 years old but travel and build homesteads through other people's videos! Thx again. God bless you and your adventures. BTW, my dear wife of 50 years is from York PA.
Wow small world! We have connected with a lot of other people from Pennsylvania in these comments. We are happy to be able to share our experiences here with you 🙂
I wandered all these things, but never asked. I respect privacy, but totally enjoy watching all this channel puts out. AS for the age, I was thinking about 7 years younger for both of you. You have achieved much for your young life. I pray for your safety and a long season to get your projects and gardening done. It is beautiful there! WE have traveled out to Montana for years and loved it there, and thought we would like to retire there, but like you, we found what little property that was for sell, was so expensive. Alaska is still on our bucket list to visit, we had a 11 day excursion booked when covid hit :( WE lived in PA for 4 years and I had my second son there, It took a year to make friends, but then it was so hard to leave. Traveling up to New York state was one of our treasured memories with the boys. So beautiful. WE just moved to our forever place, and looking forward to starting gardening on our 10 acres. Enjoy every day to the fullest in Alaska!
Feel free to ask anything in the comments we do our best to be open. We do keep some things private like our location and social security numbers for safety 😅 but we share what we can. We both wish we were 7 years younger! Time goes by so fast. Congratulations on settling into your new forever home! We hope you still get to take a vacation to Alaska sometime. The pictures and videos don't do a lot of justice for the amazing views, you would enjoy experiencing it in person someday.
Thanks so much for your update-we’ve missed you folks-something I would have enjoyed doing when I was younger-your reasoning of doing things is just the way I think that’s why I like your content
TYVM for taking the time to tell us your story. My short and sweet comment about you two is that you both are just delightful!! I'm looking forward to your upcoming projects, mainly your house build.
You are welcome, we are happy to share it! Thank you for your kind words! We are looking forward to the warm season's projects as well, I promise no one is looking more forward to the cabin build than us! 🙂
I've wondered where you two were, thought you might have stopped doing videos or just staying warm inside. I must say I've enjoyed your channel for awhile and look forward to the home build. I would enjoy watching the renovation of the motorhome. The spring box is still working, awesome! Thanks for sharing your life story and updating us. See ya when I see ya...😁❤✌🙏
Glad to hear you have been enjoying our videos! It was a long winter of mostly living recovering from injuries and moving snow 🙂. The weather was not cooperative for building projects, we tried a few times but between tools being frozen and not working properly, not being able to feel our fingers with work gloves on, and losing tools and things in the snow we decided it was not worth the aggravation. Spring is almost here so we will be jumping back into a lot of interesting projects that we can share. We did post a video of the RV restoration today maybe you will find it interesting 🙂 the spring box is going strong! It has saved us a ton of time from not needing to haul water. We do have plans to improve the water situation further this year too with the spring! Thanks for your support.
Thank you for sharing and letting us get to know you. You have a beautiful journey ahead and it's lovely (and exciting!) being able to see it. Posting shorter videos would be great too - multi part stories. Looking forward to whatever you share.
Chris and Katie … thank you for sharing your videos with us . I have enjoyed watching your videos and than you for sharing more about who you guys are and what made you leave the busy city life for a more enjoyable life style . Keep those videos coming and can’t wait to see what else you two have in store .
Glad you are enjoying our videos! We have so many plans, that I doubt we will ever run out of content to share. As the weather, time, and funds allow we will put out new videos 🙂
Make a suggestion for you. With your solar panels, put them on a pivot. All you then all you do is pivot them to vertical to get the snow off. Easy solution for quick clean.
Maybe you’re not too old. I’m 65 and going to attempt to build our retirement home with my son in law. Of course, you are possibly correct and I may not succeed here … haha
Great video update ! A lot of travels to get where you are but you both look very happy so far with the choices you have made together, Katie & Chris we wish you good health so you can move on to the next steps in your like !
Thank you for the well wishes! Do you happen to have a RUclips as well? I believe your name has been on my suggested videos page or at least one similar!
Thanks, very interesting. I live in a climate completely different, no snow. We get heat waves of up to 40 degrees Centigrade. Cheers from South Australia.
Thank you for sharing your story, always wanted to move to Alaska, since I was around eighteen(I'm sixty four now) but I'm disabled now and can't live that dream I had a total hip replacement left side now I need right side operated on,which is no walk in the park, six months of hell for that to heal completely, still I love seeing anything on Alaska, good luck to you and hope to see more videos ,watching from N.C. 1:04:28 1:04:28 1:04:28 1:04:28 1:04:28 1:04:28
I am also from PA. We bought raw land in Alaska and built a house (well, septic, house, road access) too. We drove up with a skid steer. We sold the house and bought the fixer upper next door and are renovating it. We have 20 acres and plan to build another new house once we are done with renovations. Being a PA gal, Alaska feeds my soul. And I also appreciate the freedoms. Bear and moose are frequently on the porch or driveway. Stay safe!
Yes, to the RV video. Congrats on living debt free. I'm old, but I've been able to live debt free for the last 18 yrs. THAT'S a feeling of FREEDOM!!! Keep up the good work. I'd love to see more videos from you guys.
Thanks! It is a great feeling as you know. Opens up a lot of avenues not originally available when tied down by the debt of a mortgage. We put out a video on the antique RV renovation a few days ago if you haven't seen it yet 🙂
@@northtoalaska2022 I just viewed it yesterday. It was awesome. You guys made that RV very efficient and nice. Ever since I found your channel, I've thought, "now these two came to Alaska prepared." You brought equipment and tools to assist you in building your homestead without breaking your backs. I really enjoy your videos. Makes me almost wish I was younger, haha, but I'd hate to go through some of the things I have all over again 😅 The Lord has blessed me greatly, I'm content with my life. Blessings and keep putting out these videos 🥰
Good to see you both back and healthy, thank you Katie and Chris for answering all of our questions. Really looking forward to the spring garden and cabin videos.
Thank you for the bio. Very interesting to understand the motivation to move to Alaska. I am old now and know I am fixed where I am and glad of it however it’s a pleasure to see such endeavour by a lovely capable couple and naive you are not!🤓Good fortune for your home building!👍. Phil, Suffolk, 🇬🇧
Yes, I would love to see your RV restoration! Thanks for today’s explanation of why you chose to move to AK. We are taxed pretty high here in WA state, too!😉
You are welcome for the explanation, so many folks were curious about a lot of this information. You may have already seen but we do have a new video out about the RV renovation if you are still interested! Thanks 🙂
Great Video. I understand how things work in Alaska more each time I see a video. You two make great videos and I look forward to seeing more in the future, thanks
When you were filling your water jugs I thought of something, you should install a deep P-Trap in the line coming from your spring box. The P-Trap stays full with water all the time thus preventing insect, spiders, even small rodents from getting to your spring box. I would drop down and come up 12" so there is plenty of water to discourage any pests from trying to gain access and contaminating your drinking water. I am looking forward you see how you finish off the water system for your cabin and the cabin build. I prefer the long long format videos, I am sure lots of other do as well.
Good suggestions, we did have small slip-on screens over them at the beginning of winter and on the overflows that do not have water exiting, they completely frosted over into ice from the warm air escaping. So we had to remove them. Once we begin working on the insulated spring house both of these pipes will go directly into the cistern inside. There will still be a new exit that may benefit from a p trap at the end, maybe it should be inside of the insulated spring house as well for freeze protection. We are looking forward to finishing it up. We are still having weather in the teens here, the ground frost doesn't thaw out completely until almost June. Spring should be here soon but we have already had 3 false spring thawls. We also plan to cap two other springs in the same general area for redundancy and connect them to the original spring box, since we rely on it heavily. We estimate that will give us about 4000 gallons per day which is not necessary but if one spring seep has an issue in the wintertime when we can't dig for repairs the other two spring seeps should keep us going. We may have enough content from this for 3 interesting videos.
Yeah, Alaska is an awesome place to live. I wouldn’t change living here for anything, it’s not crowded compared to Lower 48 states, and I love the freedom Alaska has to offer to those who want to put sweat and equity into it.
Well, this old 78 yr old Canadian sure enjoyed that video. Such a wonderful & beautiful young couple . Good luck on your adventure and I will be tuned in for next video.
Nice to see you back. Simple Living Alaska is a good channel for building some things e.g sawmill structure, chicken coop, Quonset building, enclosed garden (at their last home in Willow, they haven’t built their own home though). Maybe just some ideas. Looking forward to seeing how your build is going. Have you built past the floor yet. Any walls?
Hi, what a great back story which is much appreciated I’m sure to us all. I really look forward to your future builds on the property. Be safe, live free.
Welcome to RUclips, your fortune can be made, your young , energetic, and are gods children with the knowledge of working hard that can bring you both prosperity. Just don't have kids till you get your life in financially stability... God Bless....,
We just came across your channel, and found it very personable. We just sat on the couch and listened to your story. It was great. Stay warm and safe. Scott and Janet from PEI Canada
Certainly enjoyed the video. My wife and I have been discussing changing our lifestyles to a more secluded , more self reliant and less of the oppressive restrictions of where we're at. Your videos are quite inspiring. Thank yall 😊
Yes on the RV restoration. Also, perhaps you might be able to save one of the fireplaces from the old cabins and use it for an outdoor cooking area/patio. People are building them all over on the web and you might have a head start if it looks like it would stand up to it. I envy you your cabin and it will be fun going along with you as you progress. Take care, Keep warm, remember to have some fun every day, jack, In The Valley of The Sun, Arizona
Hi ☺️ Yall are: So intelligent. So Young So fearless. So intriguing. So humble Exhibit such integrity/character. Yeppers, I could watch your channel all night. Come to think Of it…..I do 😂😂 Thank you for letting this old woman tag along 😘😘❤️
If anyone watched ANY Alaska channels, they wouldn't ask, "Why do you carry?" New subscriber. Looking forward to your journey and adventure. Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister 🙏🏻 God bless you 🙏🏻 both g
Haha, yes. The people who are wondering may be from a country where this is an abnormal practice and forcibly removed from their culture. Thanks for joining us and God bless.
My husband and I are watching the video, agreeing about how our story would have been different. Example: The reason we now live in Montana is... cause we couldn't have done what y'all did. It's nice to know your whole story. Thanks.
I never thought about having to remove snow from the solar panels in the winter. It makes sense to have them on the ground for you. Here in the south people mostly put them n the roof.
We would love to move them to a high roof in the future, the short winter days would gain us quite a bit of solar with them up high but we will need to make them tilt to a vertical position for wintertime so we won't need to clean snow off anymore. This is a temporary solution, I'm sure we will have a solar array upgrade video in the future 🙂
Thanks for the explanation of "why Alaska". Wish you guys success and adventure. Don't let the firearm haters discourage you.... they don't understand that the independence and freedom come with personal responsibility to take care of yourself. Please do the RV restoration video.
It is so wild watching your video and discovering you are almost exactly my wife and I, although we are a couple years behind you. We looked at Idaho 15 years ago as well and had the same thoughts. We loved it, we found some property and it was slightly out of our price so we paused. Then we looked a few years ago and it was 2.5-4X higher. So, Alaska was it. Our answer. We are planning to move in about 6 months, from TX. Great stuff. Keep making videos.
Hey hey, you're still alive! Great intro too. Excited to see more of your cabin build, but the RV re-build would be interesting as well. You have inspired me. I'm heading up to Mongolia this summer to do some hiking or horseback riding. Hoping to scope out some remote places there.
Hey Tyler! That's awesome that you are checking out Mongolia this summer. If you end up moving out there to a remote area to practice some of the interesting building techniques we talked about before be sure to record it to share. If you start a new RUclips channel about it let us know, it sounds very interesting, and would love to follow along.
Such a value added channel, my wife and I really appreciate how you take the time to explain things while you share your adventure. Very inspiring stuff!
Thanks for putting out this vid. I've been with y'all since that first really muddy video and have had questions, but didn't want to pry☺ I think you'll find that there is a huge fanbase for Alaska homesteader vids here on youtube. I follow about a dozen myself, and it makes me so happy to see young couples doing what I always wanted to do. 55:30 a random penny in the soil - how fun😋 Would love to see the RV renovation🐝
We are glad to hear you enjoyed this video! Haha, we don't miss that muddy road at all, what a fun mess that was! You can feel free to ask us questions in the comments here. We do not get super personal giving out our location or social security numbers but we are happy to share what we can. We just put out a video today about our antique RV renovation to make it a temporary living solution out here in Alaska, hope you enjoy it! 🙂
Glad you two are back and healthy. This was interesting to hear how you got to where you are and to see your personalities. Please keep making vids as you see fit, so far they have all been good. 26:19 LOL don't worry looks like Katie can save you. Thanks for letting us into your lives, you two do good at making vids as long as Chris doesn't stand too close to the camera 52:09, way to keeping him in line Katie. Long ago Alaska was my dream doing what you are doing, too old now, so if you don't mind I'll live vicariously through you two.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed our story and other videos! Thank you! Katie is dead on with her aim. It's nice to be able to share our experiences here with folks like yourself!
I really enjoyed hearing your story of how you prepared for and traveled to Alaska. Got to know you guys better now . Thanks for taking the time to "chat" with us!
Such a great asset! Water is easy to take for granted after living on wells our entire life with instant clean water. If the spring was not so promising we would have to take the big financial hit on a well. Water is so important.
Thank you for taking the time to tell your story You both come across as two lovely people and i would like wish you happiness in all your future ventures together All Best Wishes from England UK
Ran into your channel a couple of days ago, when you were putting up the A-frame rafters....great work! This background video, about how you decided to move to Alaska, and how you eventually got there, was very interesting and a good guideline for others considering the move. Good luck and stay safe. Looking forward to more of your adventures! 👍from Nova Scotia
Great video Chris and Katie. Thanks for sharing your story. Definitely didn’t see Katie as a CO. I’ll keep my mouth shut about people commenting on you carrying a gun while living in the wilds of Alaska. You can say it, we’re behind enemy lines here in PA.
Glad you guys enjoyed the video! Katie is small but full of surprises! I think the main people concerned with firearms are from countries that no longer have that freedom and it just seems bizarre, whereas it is 100% normal in our culture. I do still love our state of Pennsylvania, but some of the greed and politics were too much. Unfortunately nowhere is perfect and it seems it is only getting harder everywhere.
Thank you for sharing your story with us all!!! It’s great to see authentic content. Keep doing what you’re doing and sharing your journey the way you are for as long as you are able!
Hello, 👋 Yes, RV semi restoration video please. Keep up the amazing work.
Looks like that will be a future video! 👋
I for one would love to see the /a video of the remodel of the RV, TY, LOL, Later Y'all
Yes to the RV restoration! Firearms are a tool for responsible adults & definitely necessary in your living situation. Keep the videos coming!

I am in Pennsylvania, so I am interested in watching your journey. Good luck and best wishes.
Hello 👋, very nice! We were from York County. It has been a long journey, with a lot farther to go! Thank you for the best wishes
Great Video. I understand how things work in Alaska more each time I see a video. You two make great videos and I look forward to seeing more in the future, thanks
Glad we can share our experiences with you, and that you enjoyed our videos 🙂 Thank you!
The snow and just the beauty of Alaska is not boring, I love these things.
Agreed
Chris and katie loved the sawmill videos, would love to see you making lumber for your projects ❤
As soon as all this deep snow is melted down and we can move our equipment around in the forest we will be busy with the mill!
Greetings from lancaster county pa. Loved this video.
We were right next door in York County 🙂 glad to hear you enjoyed our video!
Yeah, Alaska is an awesome place to live. I wouldn’t change living here for anything, it’s not crowded compared to Lower 48 states, and I love the freedom Alaska has to offer to those who want to put sweat and equity into it.
Thanks for sharing your and hello from Juneau AK! We’ve been watching since you started posting your AK content., good job!
Hello 👋 🙂 glad you guys are enjoying our videos! We have never been to your area of Alaska yet but it is on our list of places to visit!
Love watching you guys!!! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us, teach us and let us live vicariously thru you young peeps❤
Well, this old 78 yr old Canadian sure enjoyed that video. Such a wonderful & beautiful young couple . Good luck on your adventure and I will be tuned in for next video.
And this 80 yr old french Canadian from Québec enjoyed your video as much as Simple Living Alaska. Merci beaucoup et continuez le beau travail.
Thank you 🙂
Nice to see you back. Any walls?
Yes, Simple Living Alaska is a wonderful channel. Eric and Arielle are the first AK homesteaders I've followed🥰
@@maybeebuzzy2265 Same here! Its my favorite show ever! I really enjoy Eric and Ariel's videos and probably why this channel was recommended lol.
Great episode! Please don't skimp on episodes on building. Especially, the house build. Love your channel
Thank you ❤️
Hi, what a great back story which is much appreciated I’m sure to us all. I really look forward to your future builds on the property. Be safe, live free.
Glad you enjoyed it!
All I can say is WOW. Fantastic journey !!!!!!!!!!!!
It has been and is still feeling like a journey every day. 🙂

We just came across your channel, and found it very personable. We just sat on the couch and listened to your story. It was great. Stay warm and safe. Scott and Janet from PEI Canada
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 🙂
You two are amazing. Keep doing what you’re doing. Stay safe and warm
Thank you!
Thank you for such an informative video. It helps us get to know you better. Glad you are back. Please stay. 😊
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video 🙂 we are here to stay, it will not be weekly but we promise to share new videos when we can!
Yes, I'd love to see the RV reno.
Certainly enjoyed the video.
My wife and I have been discussing changing our lifestyles to a more secluded , more self reliant and less of the oppressive restrictions of where we're at. Your videos are quite inspiring. Thank yall 😊
I just finished up a 23 year career with the BOP. Congrats on having the courage to leave. I really enjoy your content. Take care
You guys are doing it! Don't ever be afraid to put the camera down. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful :) :) :)
Take care, Keep warm, remember to have some fun every day,
jack,
In The Valley of The Sun, Arizona
The new renovation video is up if you missed it! Thanks for the suggestion Jack, that would make an interesting project.
Hi ☺️

Exhibit such integrity/character.
Yeppers, I could watch your channel all night. Come to think
Of it…..I do 😂😂
Thank you for letting this old woman tag along 😘😘❤️
If anyone watched ANY Alaska channels, they wouldn't ask, "Why do you carry?" New subscriber. Looking forward to your journey and adventure. Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister 🙏🏻 God bless you 🙏🏻 both g
Haha, yes. The people who are wondering may be from a country where this is an abnormal practice and forcibly removed from their culture. Thanks for joining us and God bless.
Thanks for responding to your viewers and providing the back story of your Alaskan adventure.
Our pleasure 🙂
My husband and I are watching the video, agreeing about how our story would have been different. Example: The reason we now live in Montana is... cause we couldn't have done what y'all did. It's nice to know your whole story. Thanks.
It's always nice to find common ground and relatable thoughts with others!
We did the exact same thing, for the same reasons, almost 20yrs ago, when we moved from Michigan to Idaho.
I watched when you built your shelter for concrete and building your extinction of your road. Enjoyed 👍👌👀✌️keep up the good work.
Glad we didn’t give you too much hassle in Canada.
Can’t wait to see the finished cabin.
I really appreciate you guys expanding why you chose to live in Alaska and off grid thank you so be safe
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks!
I really enjoyed this video. I look forward to the next...
Thanks!
Thank you for the tip! 🙂 greatly appreciated!
Very interesting. Thanks for doing this video. Dog growling at the end made me chuckle😄
Haha he through he was going to scare those birds away! 🐕
Katie, Chris. Great video, and would love to see the RV restoration. Stay safe and well ❤👍🏴
Thank you! Our new RV video is out today! Enjoy 🙂
Such a value added channel, my wife and I really appreciate how you take the time to explain things while you share your adventure. Very inspiring stuff!
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying our videos 🙂
Alright kids,I just found your channel. I'm along for the ride, living out my dream. SEMPER FI
Welcome!
Thanks for putting out this vid. I've been with y'all since that first really muddy video and have had questions, but didn't want to pry☺
I think you'll find that there is a huge fanbase for Alaska homesteader vids here on youtube.
Yes for sure to the restoration! Im excited
The video is up if you haven't seen it yet!
Thank you for being so candid, I feel a lot closer to you both now.
Thank you! 😀
Every bid of your video is so interesting to watch. Please don't hold back any video.
I really enjoyed hearing your story of how you prepared for and traveled to Alaska. Got to know you guys better now . Thanks for taking the time to "chat" with us!
You are welcome, glad you enjoyed our video!
And you have clean water on your land what a blessing
Such a great asset! Water is easy to take for granted after living on wells our entire life with instant clean water. If the spring was not so promising we would have to take the big financial hit on a well. Water is so important.
Your both Good People and I'm looking forward to watching all your Videos!!!
Thank you!
Hell of a journey there, Katie and Chris. ❤ well done, and life gets so busy, and each milestone comes far too quickly.
Very true! Time goes by so fast, that it's hard to remember to slow down and enjoy it sometimes.
Your sister just cleaned my teeth! She told me about you guys. This is awesome!
My aunt had a telephone job in alaska in the Spring Summer and Hawaii in the Fall Winter. She loved both.
Best of both worlds!
We are doing the exact same thing on our property on the kenai peninsula. We are so excited to get on our patch of heaven 😃
Thank you for taking the time to tell your story You both come across as two lovely people and i would like wish you happiness in all your future ventures together All Best Wishes from England UK
Thank you for your kind words and best wishes! 🙂
@@northtoalaska2022 Happy Easter friends
Happy Easter! 🐰
Great video. Thank you for sharing your lives and progress.
Most interesting vid - So glad you're sharing - Thanks again....
Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Love seeing the Alaska countryside. You guys enjoy the life you want and take care.
Glad we can share it in the videos with you!
Thank you for sharing your story with us all!!! It’s great to see authentic content. Keep doing what you’re doing and sharing your journey the way you are for as long as you are able!
Glad you enjoyed our video 🙂, we will keep sharing. Thank you!
