  • Even below-zero temperatures didn't stop us from enjoying ice fishing on the Kenai Peninsula! Our first fishing trip was successful with enough trout for a few meals. We ended our trip with a fantastic trout meal. Recipe below!
Thank you for supporting our channel!
    Katie & Chris
    Chili Lime Trout
    ▢1 ¼ pound Steelhead trout
▢1 lime, zested + 1 teaspoon of juice
    ▢1 tablespoon honey
    ▢1 teaspoon olive oil
    ▢1 teaspoon chili powder
    ▢½ teaspoon kosher salt
▢Optional: additional lime wedges for squeezing on top and freshly chopped parsley
    1. Make the chili lime mix. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl, stir together the lime zest, lime juice, honey, oil, chili powder, and salt.
    2. Bake the trout. Brush the spice mix on top of the trout. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes, or until the trout flakes easily with a fork.
    3. Garnish. If you'd like, add a sprinkle of parsley and additional lime slices for garnish before serving.

That ice is at least 2 -3 foot thick there’s been people on that lake in UTV’s riding around. The temps there in Alaska stay zero or below all winter so they’re plenty safe. Some frozen lakes they drive loaded tractor trailers across in winter. Now If the temps start rising then theres a cause for concern.,

It is still in the teens, windy and snowy here, but soon spring will arrive and we have a lot of planned projects to share with everyone this building season! We did have a busy winter but we did not have a lot of interesting projects we felt passionate about making videos of and the last thing we want is to give everyone boring videos 🙂 We will have some nice videos to share soon!

Katie don’t listen to Chris As soon as he said you probably should’ve left it down there and you lowered it back down the big fish nailed it 🤣🤣
So now you Have figured out a method to pull your bait (using the same bait ) to the top and lower it back down. I think you’re making the trout think that it’s live bait so they’re nailing it ! 👏🏼😁
U and Chris both need to use that method of moving it up & back down slowly! Hey 🤷🏻‍♂️It seems to be working, so as long as it’s working I’d keep on doing it with that same kind of bait that is. Awesome job 👍🏼😁👍🏼 🎣 🥘
PS: Or Just let Chris leave his bait down there on the bottom not moving while the little nibblers are nibbling on his bait & he’ll catch the little ones. Meanwhile you’re using THE KATIE METHOD.....
Slowly moving your bait to the top and lowering it back down to snatch out the big ones!
    🎣 😂🤣

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  2 месяца назад

Haha! There are some tactics involved in persuading the fish to bite. We have caught a lot of rainbow trout back in the creeks of Pennsylvania but they are a lot more active and more likely to bite in the warm running Water. Fishing through the ice is a new learning experience for us. It is enjoyable as long as we dress warm enough. It will be fun learning the best ways to catch them over the coming years! We were told by a local fish and game officer that day we would have better luck using fresh shrimp. Curious to see how that works out next time!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it Chuck! The auger is made by Eskimo, called the pistol bit. It works with any high-end cordless drill. It is a cost-effective option for folks who already own a drill, and saves quite a bit of money over an electric or gas ice auger. Seems to work very fast and is easy to use! I think something that could help a lot on our next trip would be better bait. We met an Alaska wildlife trooper out on the one lake that suggested real shrimp is the best Bait to use in that area.

We brought them and never set them up! We ended up moving about to new areas every half an hour until we found fish 🙂

That is incredibly hateful for someone to want you to fall through the ice. I'm guessing they don't move their behind from their favorite chair except to retrieve more soda and chips. What tools they are, and they are the simplest tool of all...the wedge.

Yea, not something we would wish on anyone. We have had three comments on 2 different older videos of people saying they wish we could fall through the Ice... amazing. Comments are still there more than likely.

I can’t believe you kept those tiny fish. Or that you didn’t take your gloves off! That way you could have thrown them both back instead of making excuses. That was very selfish.
I am going to have to rethink my subscription because it’s clear you guys are users. This isn’t the first video you guys have been users and destroyers.

That lake is stocked by AK fish and wildlife with both salmon and trout specifically for people to catch and eat. These fish aren't natural to that lake and likely won't grow very large. In fact, those trout are standard size for the area.
We plan to do more hunting and fishing in upcoming videos. We understand that it is not for everyone.
We don't understand what you are insinuating about our other videos being users and destroyers. Please elaborate.

Why do you need to rethink your subscription??? Just hurry up and cancel it will you. You surely won't be missed especially making comments like this about this awesome couple who are just trying to survive like everyone else. If you are really bummed out about this, why even watch the channel???? People like you sitting behind a keyboard who have no knowledge or experience of what it is like to survive in this harsh environment. I would give you about 3 mins outside like them and you would be crying like a baby. So how long are you going to rethink about your subscription??? Hope it is not long from now. You surely will not be missed by me. 🙂See ya, wouldn't want to be ya !!!!
