We love your story and are faithfully following another couple in the area as well. We have found many Portugal homesteader sites that the couples have got to know each other for an occasional dinner and work sharing lifestyle for the big jobs. Please keep it coming. My husband is a retired maintenance mechanic of over 50years and loves to wrench. You guys all excite us with your progress. Thank you!
Man that intro sequence was beautiful! The bald eagles were breathtaking and that shot of the river between the two mountain peaks would be art on my wall. Very nice!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! Some of the places and wildlife here are amazing. If you ever visit Alaska you can hike to that Glacier in Seward. It is called Exit Glacier.
WOW! My first time seeing your channel and watching one of your videos. BEAUTIFUL scenery. I love channels that actually show what the people are talking about, instead of the ones where people are pointing at something out of sight, then talking about it. You have great talent for videoing, content, narrating the video and explaining everything. I am subscribing to your channel and anxious to see more of your life in Alaska. I love Alaska and since I will never be able to get back there again, I live my dreams watching all or you that are living it for me. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, beautiful state, and all the work you do to make your dreams a reality. May God continue to bless and protect you always.
I don't think our videos will ever depict the amount of true effort it takes to do all of this because they would be 24 hours long. But it is fun to share pieces of the adventure with everyone. Your words are true, hard work does pay off. Thanks for watching!
That was awesome!!! What a great catch. Love the lesson on canning and freezing salmon. I watched Grandma do it when I was very young but I have never done it. Wiping the jars rim is so important, I remember Grandma saying.."you don't wanna get sick do ya." Well hello from Michigan, take care , stay safe and God bless.
Nice work on the Salmon you 2 they look fantastic! Always enjoy watching the dip netting videos whether its copper river reds or out at the ocean! Katie you were a trooper getting out there with that net as I know from being married to my wife for 26yrs who is just over 5ft that the struggles are real when your tiny doing things like that. The Thai salmon recipie is now in my folder of stuff to try next as it looked AWESOME! Thanks for taking us along with you!
You two are awesome. You have all the qualities for making great Alaska content. Positive and drama free. I actually suffer from withdrawal symptoms wait for the next video to publish. ❤
Hello From New Zealand the closest country to the south pole, just subscribed to your channel, keen interest in the A-Frame you are building, used to live off grid on my sapphire mine in Australia but now back home to the mountains in New Zealand, looking at going off grid here also so keen in the A-Frame you are building, good job so far will continue to follow you build, Mark.

Hi, I’m new to your channel & have been watching Simple Life Alaska for years. I am loving watching you guys. Alaska is so beautiful & you are really blessed to be able to live there. I’m watching your videos from the start & see you are doing wonderfully. Thanks for sharing.
My neighbor shared some salmon he caught in Alaska, have never been able to duplicate that taste again from any Salmon I’ve bought in the stores. I bet that recipe you had for supper was delicious!
Another action packed video, about obtaining food. Yum Yum!!!! I have to get my sockeye flow down here to me....but I love it.... Thanks for sharing Chris & Katie
What a great way to spend 5 hours. Amazing looking fish. Oh the Bounties of Alaska. Oh to be young again. Great job you two. You guys are not the typical couple of your age group. Hats off to you both. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
My favorite salmon recipe is Yassa Salmon. It's a west African recipe usually made with chicken, but also commonly made with fish. Poisson Yassa: 4 salmon fillet halves 4 onions -thinly sliced 3 tbsp oil for frying 1 1/2 cups water Marinade ingredients: Juice of 4 lemons Zest of half a lemon 3 or 4 garlic cloves, crushed 4 tsp salt 3 tsp black pepper 1 tsp cayenne pepper 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (or use yellow mustard) 3 Tbsp oil for marinade (In Africa they would commonly add a "Maggi cube" which is a type of bullion. You could add a bullion cube or some bullion powder) - Mix all marinade ingredients in a (non-reactive) bowl to form a marinade Place fish in this marinade -keep in fridge for 15 mins. Remove the fish fillets, but reserve the marinade Place 3 tbsp oil in a large skillet and heat up Fry salmon fillets on medium high for about 4 minutes on each side, then remove from the pan and reserve Fry onions in this skillet on medium heat til translucent (Add more oil if needed) Put the reserved marinade and 1 1/2 cups water in the pan with the onions and let come to a simmer. Reduce heat to medium low, and place the salmon fillets back in the skillet with the onions and marinade, and cook salmon with the marinade a further 4 minutes on each side or until done (it flakes with a fork) Taste for seasoning Serve with sweet or Irish potatoes, or rice
Very cool! Thank you for walking us through the process of catching, processing, and storing the salmon. I have a friend from SW Missouri who is up in Alaska this month helping his nephew fish for salmon. I'm looking forward to hearing his stories and looking at his pictures and videos.
Nice hookup with the Sockeye run! I got a chance to go fishing in Yakitat for the silver salmon run. We hooked our limits on fly rods every day and then we got a guided float trip and a saltwater guided trip. I came back with over two hundred pounds of salmon, halibut and several four foot ling cod as well! That halibut was like lobster, oh lord it was tasty! Loved the intro with the animals, another great video! 💪👊👍
I took some screenshots of the fish going & coming out of the oven. They really looked very tasty. I will pass these along to my wife, along with your receipt to my wife. Thanks really do enjoy watching your cabin built, it is coming along nicely. Thanks for sharing. Just my thoughts...

Never seen fishing like that before 😊. Not an Aussie thing ..not where we live anyway. Also never seen fish canned..tinned salmon of course in shops. Very interesting video.
Great job I hope the hell I never spend another summer down here in Louisiana no we’re is prefect but I’ll be so glad when I get back such clean beautiful country that is not yet over run great video way to go good luck
Hi guys, i recently started watching your channel. Good content and I love the way you present thing. Hope to visit Alaska one day. I love seeing the fishing video. Blessings!
It seems more like catching than fishing. Great way to get groceries for the freezer. The fresh salmon are so tasty and have been a welcome addition to our weekly cooking menu.
I recently came across your yt channel and within 2 days i finished all the videos . they are really addictive . I'm living in sri lanka where snow is impossible . Actually it's sunny whole the year . your channel made me feel the snow and alaska....idk it felt so real....I hope you upload videos soon and hope both of you are okay.....god bless you
Incredible, glad you enjoyed our videos 🙂 glad we could share some of the snow and cold with you! We could use some of your Sri Lanka sunshine here, it has been rainy for weeks now haha! We upload new videos whenever we can. This is a part-time hobby for us to make them at the moment, we hope to have more time in the future to create more content here 🙂 God bless 🙏
😀😀👍👍❤❤ Nice work to you both! Awesome video, just found your channel. Look forward to more and subscribed! Bye for now from Seattle, WA. (Northwest USA)
What we have in Ky that might be similar to the salmon run and all the excitement is when the corn comes in 😅 Families get together and shuck, silk and scrape to make enough creamed corn for each family member’s freezer.
Hey there! I watched this video and loved it! So you caught something else along with all that wonderful Salmon: A new Sub. BTW, I am in Northern Quebec (Very similar to Alaska). I have Brook trout, Artic Char, Lake trout, Walleye and Northern Pike. I raise meat rabbits... But Nothing beats Sockeye! You are lucky to have that ressource! Good job guys!
Wow nice haul of fish. I tried and real simple way to enjoy the salmon that is scraped off with the spoon. You take and make a spaghetti sauce and boil up some spaghetti pasta .when that is ready put your salmon that is scraped with the spoon .Mix it all together like you would with hamburger .Let it simmer about 6 or 8 minutes and it will cook the salmon. It is SO good. Salmon alfredo is good too with salmon.

pro tip, you can dipnet lower cook inlet AND copper river if youre looking to really stock up for the year (they are different permits). We eat salmon multiple times a week so the 70 fish last us just a whole year and we share a ton.
I miss living in Alaska and going to Kenai/Soldotna beach though I always did south shore. I used to take a week off from work just for dipnetting and misc fishing.
Seeing you eat white rice. When you refrigart rice it changes from a starch to a fiber . Much more better for you. Just learned that a few months ago. I have a chunky son and it has helped.
I was wondering if the cabin was dried in yet. Seems like awhile since seeing a vlog. I was able to binge watch since finding you. Pressure cooking always scares me... Never could 'can' , always worried about explosion or poisoning someone. Sill, I know. Glad you're back.

Nice. Canned and frozen salmon for the year. Never saw anyone cut the tail off before, that kind of had me stumped.
We are excited to have salmon for the year! The tail clipping is a regulation in our area while dipnetting 🙂
