This song means so much to me. I played it for my great grandma while she was passing to calm her. It was one of the hardest things i’ve ever done. The last thing she said to me was “beautiful music”. I’ll never forget that and every time I hear this song I get emotional. Love you Mamo R.I.P. Thank you all for your kind words. It has been hard without her but I have all of you to thank for helping me get through this. All of your comments mean so much to me and I am truly grateful for all of the thoughtful things you all have said. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like a beautiful, bittersweet moment to have; and you chose the right song. We all have, or will have these special personal moments in our lives tied to certain pieces...that's the power of great music. :)
Listening to special music transcends our mortal fears. I sing to my dad now and then. Though now maybe he is in another life. Prayers open like orange lights and guide them in the dark valley. Your granma felt her soul for special music does that and that will preserve her conciousness and keep her senses tuned to the bigger world.
What a beautiful thing to do for her. I’m so so sorry for your loss but what a beautiful send off♥️ I hope you still feel her love surrounding you in a warm hug. Sending you much love xx♥️🙏

Everytime i hear this song, i wonder how Jimmy came up with the chords and fills for this song. It's ever changing and just so beautiful. I also wonder why drugs exist when songs like this exist. Thank you Led Zeppelin.
no jimmy page was just a good composer of music from his own right drugs and enhancers had nothing to do with it just PURE music coming from the soul if they had did drugs and wrote the songs then they would suck believe that i mean remember when the beatles mentioned trying to play on lsd and other stuff they just couldnt get it so how people keep this evergoing steretype is beyond me but hey if it tickles your balls to think such obsurd things then hey keep buying into it god bless ya lmao ignorance is bliss
So many songs don't stand up to the test of time. The truly great musical artists like Led Zep and Pink Floyd (to name a couple) sound as fresh today as they did when they were first released.
I was a single dad, bought my son a guitar , he was eleven. He's a musician and I sent him to the plant and page concert in Chicago. To this day it's the best concert he's been to.
I met his son Jason Bonham several years back, the poor guy was a fat blob of drunken obnoxious spoiled mess - we got along tho, he was just indulging way over the top - looked like pure hell

I had my first baby last week, and on her 3rd night home i played this to her off my phone. I was so emotionally into her beautiful face that i wanted to cry but held it in. At some point i saw her smile at me for the first time and i broke out in tears. I have never in my life felt such a love so immense and beautiful like i did in that moment. Now I’m learning to play it for her on my acoustic. Thank you Led Zeppelin for that, the greatest moment of my life so far🤍
Enjoy it , time goes by so fast .. I played this for my babe , he just turned 40 on the 9th of June 2021. . This was also one of my childhood favorites in the 70’s
There will never be another band like this. Ever. Not even close. And this drummer RIP, best one since Bonzo. His son is good, but this drummer was ridiculously amazing.
This song came on the radio while I was driving with my daughter. She was preparing to leave for college and we spoke of many things that day. I was missing her already and it hurt so badly that I could barely breathe. The music and lyrics were like a balm for my soul. When I hear this song, it reminds me of that beautiful fall day, the bluest of skies, the open road and my love for her.
Yea ,I feel ya on that.Man, he just went the hell off and really got into the whole thing? Made me smile big watching him go off like he did. He was Great!
+lakhman moktan Actually, not that complex, but sophisticated yes. Jimmy as he often did, uses an alternate tuning. Gives it a very cool vibe and sound.
+Joe Primal It's in an alternate tuning.. It's like a magic trick. Once you figure it out it makes some much intuitive sense that it is easy. I suggest anyone who plays, tune your guitar to open Page G and watch a tutorial. I played this religiously for a year and a half just because it was so fun.
When you realise that everything the orchestra does here, JPJ handled all by himself back during the tour days....it hits hard man, really hard. Cheers for the unsung hero 🔥
Yeah, no kidding. John was incredibly talented, maybe the most talented of the four and, considering how the other three are stupidly good, this says a lot.
@@MateusOliveira-hr1wp it is such a shame that JPJ didn't do this tour with the boys. None the less, the music was spectacular with the musicians they used and a full orchestra. I missed a chance to see the tour but a buddy of mine did see them. 26 years later he still talks about it. He is quite the guitar player himself, so you can imagine how much he enjoyed the Plant/ Page tour. We used to get stoned when my friend was learning guitar. I would be at the turntable trying to drop the needle at just the right spot of a LZ album so he could try and learn a Page riff. Good times- old school guitar learning.
Led Zeppelin to me is my dad. When I hear Led Zeppelin, I feel my dad beside me. I can't imagine anything making me feel so close to him. I still have my father, I'm only 25, he's turning 56 this year. I know a day will come that I will either cling to these songs in rememberance, or be absolutely unable to listen to them at all. Only time will tell, but for now, I will simply enioy. I love you dad.
Happily Ever After Gaming i relate to this so much. my dad unfortunately suffers from cancer but now has time to play guitar again and this is his favorite song
I can totally relate...i think in the end you gota be strong and use the music as a point of reference to get some inspiration and use that connect with our dad's and the music in a positive way...we gota keep on keeping on
Happily Ever After Gaming for me it’s a way of being able to have him by my side still. I love this music and even tho my dads passed, this music brings me back to my memories with him.
Agreed, Jimmy pages flair for meloncholic and mesmerising melodies is impeccable. That augmented line cliché makes me feel a certain way, almost a sense of bliss and hopelessness at the same time. Also the sound of the openess of the open tuning plus the string section reminds me of As tears go by from Rolling Stones/ Marianne Faithfull. Beautiful song
Faiz Ahmad I'm sure shaitan is fair well pissed of you cheating him like that. should've done his homework he would have found out half is owned by me. I imagine we'll be in litigation for decades. during that time we'll take turns seeing how many time we can get you to say "help me Jesus" while we're torturing you. should be fun.
The song remains the same film is still one of the most iconic pieces so art ever composed . I love this song and they are still at the top of my playlist
My father died the same day John Bonham died…September 25,1980. My Husband’s initials are JP and he was born on Jimmy Page’s birthday, January 9. I was born five days after Robert Plant was born. 8/25/1948 and 8/20/1948 I’ve had dreams about Robert Plant and he was so real. Once I prayed so hard to God that I could have a chance to tell him I loved him, though it seemed impossible it could ever happen. Within a year we had gotten front row seats to the 2000 seating Orpheum theater in Boston. A few things happened during the concert. A guy ran down to the front row. Robert Plant was looking down & never saw him and the guy hopped up on stage and rushed to hug him…immediately someone from off stage grabbed the guy and took him off the other side of the stage without Robert Plant even seeing him. He must have felt him though he looked up directly at me and I said it’s OK and he just went on with the show. After his last encore as he walked off, he looked right at me and grinned. I turned and gestured to the audience and said “we love you” and looked back at him and he was still grinning. It was magical and God had answered my prayer.
It’s come to my attention the purpose of this song is to help you cry when you need to. Just a little rain. Then we move on into the summer of my smile. 🌞
Saw Jimmy and Plant shortly after this session walking down West Broadway in Soho. People froze. Like the sea was parting for them. Plant brings it down to earth by shaking hands and smiling. Years later, I'm in a donut place in Burbank at 6am and I hear giggling and two people talking film . It was Jimmy and his daughter having donuts and talking about their favorite movies of the year. I was the only other patron. Gifted gentlemen and two moments that will live with me.
Lucky you to have seen these giants out and about, one of them twice! What are the odds? I don't get star struck by celebrity, but I would for them. Along with Bowie, they made my adolescence much more bearable. Glad to have seen them live in 75. Still giving much pleasure today.
How wonderful you experienced such precious moments. Françoise Hardy sings a song about moments, it's French si ger feom yrs ago but it is so true. I hope u always have someone wanting to hear ur precious moment, so sweet, innocent only for the three of you to remember 😊
It's not just that Jimmy Page is a master on the guitar. It's that Robert Plant also feels the music and his voice. Together they are just a beautiful pair
It is the springtime of my loving The second season I am to know You are the sunlight in my growing So little warmth I've felt before It isn't hard to feel me glowing I watched the fire that grew so low, oh It is the summer of my smiles Flee from me, keepers of the gloom Speak to me only with your eyes It is to you I give this tune Ain't so hard to recognize, oh These things are clear to all from time to time, ooh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh Talk talk, talk, talk Hey, I felt the coldness of my winter I never thought it would ever go I cursed the gloom that set upon us, 'pon us, 'pon us, 'pon us But I know that I love you so Oh, but I know That I love you so These are the seasons of emotion And like the wind, they rise and fall This is the wonder of devotion I see the torch We all must hold This is the mystery of the quotient, quotient Upon us all, upon us all a little rain must fall Just a little rain, oh Ooh, yeah-yeah-yeah Written by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant
Im in the process of learning this song, ive been playing for 40 years and really regret not having learned this particular master piece, I suppose I always just appreciated the beauty of it
With this special DGCGCD tuning and of course this beautiful song, Mr. Page has brought out such depths of guitar that go beyond the relationship between a person and an object (guitar). It goes far beyond that ... Thank you master! It is an eternal experience for us! 🥲
Robert Plant is always spot on, a perfect match to Jimmy Page's guitar work. Beautiful song, incredible performance. Love those smiles at the end to one another.
+Jim Bo I noticed that too. Kind of a "Right on" nod, very cool. If you'd like to enjoy another little moment like that, check out Ginger Baker's little "eye raise" to Clapton after "White Room" on the live at Albert Hall Cream reunion show.
Plant did an AWESOME job but did not hit the notes as he did before while singing this song...showed great control here~ Plant nods to Jimmy because Plant knew that Jimmy got finer with age with respect to this song and his AWESOME performance...just my guess~ An excellent performance by everyone involved!
+minitom74 let's all pump the brakes on the 'music these days....' rant, i grew up with lz (born 1965) and my parents said the same stuff about lz, so comments like these just make the commenter look like they are too old, lazy, disinterested to immerse themselves in music that is being made now. some of my parents' music moves my soul, led zeppelin moves my soul and sometimes today's music does the same, you just need to be willing to listen. I DO miss that we seem to move way too fast these days. I don't have the time to queue up music I have never heard, sit quietly and really listen to music like I did when I was a kid. I hope there are some people that still do. It's time well spent.
I do listen to the music of today. That's why I'm able to make a comparison to it. What I think that makes music special in my eyes is starting to disappear. In the last 50 years the les Paul guitar hasn't changed a lot. There's a reason for it. It didn't need to. We've entered a digital age where change is inevitable and for that I will always be analog through and through.
Jimmy tossing his pick at 7:03, Robert's subtle nod at the song's end... and a stunningly beautiful masterpiece from Zep's incredible catalog. Wonderful video.
I love LZ's rockers but songs like this, and "Ten Years Gone", "Goin' to California", and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" are what really show off their compositional genius for me. What a mythic band.
This is my favorite song. Been playing guitar for 25 years I can play the most technical guitar in the world but none of that means shit compared how this song makes me feel on a warm sunny day in the sand at the Pacific ocean. When I play this on my guitar I truly find peace and love! To me it's the greatest day I've ever had everytime I play this on my acoustic guitar at the beach.

You're correct, it will be until the end of time.
Imagine being told by a Beatle that you can't write a ballad and producing a masterpiece out of spite...Jimmy page is a rock god.
Wasn't it not so much that they can't write ballads but that they didn't? Either way this song is perfect to me.

Everytime i hear this song, i wonder how Jimmy came up with the chords and fills for this song. It's ever changing and just so beautiful. I also wonder why drugs exist when songs like this exist. Thank you Led Zeppelin.
You stole the mouths out of my word.
maria I Right you are..
From his soul.
"I also wonder why drugs exist when songs like this exist" - drugs made these songs...
Best band ever.
no jimmy page was just a good composer of music from his own right drugs and enhancers had nothing to do with it just PURE music coming from the soul if they had did drugs and wrote the songs then they would suck believe that i mean remember when the beatles mentioned trying to play on lsd and other stuff they just couldnt get it so how people keep this evergoing steretype is beyond me but hey if it tickles your balls to think such obsurd things then hey keep buying into it god bless ya lmao ignorance is bliss
When Robbery Plant sings, he makes LOVE 2
EVERYTHING HE SINGS.
even as a man I'm just totally in awe of him, seen him 4 times and is just class 👍
Robert's singing is just lovely. He is a true star
46 years after it’s release and this song still sounds so incredible! Thumbs up if listening in 2019! ⚡️🎸
Jon MacLennan always sends me to a special place
STILL LISTENING....
Crazy how music does that!
So many songs don't stand up to the test of time. The truly great musical artists like Led Zep and Pink Floyd (to name a couple) sound as fresh today as they did when they were first released.
I apologize...I thumbs up'd but I'm in 2021.
I was a single dad, bought my son a guitar , he was eleven. He's a musician and I sent him to the plant and page concert in Chicago. To this day it's the best concert he's been to.
real musicians, real music
i miss bonzo
+Rollerskates we all do friend, we all do. So fucking much.
I met his son Jason Bonham several years back, the poor guy was a fat blob of drunken obnoxious spoiled mess - we got along tho, he was just indulging way over the top - looked like pure hell
Adults making music for adults.
Just listen to jimmy play that thing, it radiates pure mood , takes a person away on some dreamlike journey
I'm so glad Jimmy Page and Robert Plant found each other =)
The world would be a different home if not.....
Jimmy Page is a Beethoven of rock 'n' roll, playing his music at its best on his instrument. Unique in history.
The One And Only Living Legend "Robert Plant And Freaking " Jimmy Funkin Page "And Hey Robert I'd Love To Try Out Ur Back Door And" Hey "Hoe" Hey Ho " Awghhhhh Aghhh Whooooo....Ahoooooo !!!

When i got Houses as a kid, i didnt realize how great this song was. Now, its my favorite from the album
Me as well.
Actually this song is from the 5th album, Houses of the Holy 😊
@@valeriotravini5167 good catch
Samesies, bro.
The 4:43 minute mark and the ensuing 50 or so seconds thereafter is one of the
best if not the best moments in musical recording history.
it gives me chill each time
Favorite part of my favorite song. EARGASM!!!!!!
Without a doubt, it brings tears to my eyes almost every time I watch the video.
I was never blessed with having a child & always wanted to be a Mom - so happy for you. Thanks for sharing that wonderful moment with your baby✌❤
When it comes to zep it's never to early to start listening
Congratulations!
Always remember this... "The Song Remains The Same"
There will never be another band like this. Ever. Not even close. And this drummer RIP, best one since Bonzo. His son is good, but this drummer was ridiculously amazing.
Right you are! Great drummer for sure!! RIP
I think his name was Michael Lee and I agree...RIP
@@rwv7447 Yes, that was him.
I played this song over and over when my Father passed. It gave me comfort and peace. Miss you Dad 😢
Nicely written and kind to share ✌️😊
The way you said that gave me tingling and goose bumps . Thanks.
K. Pope Beautifully written. Lyrical. Robert would love to read your words, of that I have little doubt
K. Pope
I can fully relate. Thanks for the comment.
Started getting choked up when that drummer was playing, holy shit.. He totally nailed it
damn straight brother!
Michael Lee did an outstanding job, sadly he died way too early...
I hear ya. I feel so fortunate I was lucky to see him on Plant's 93 tour, and Page and Plant 95-98 tours. He is missed. Tragic only 39 years old.
Yea ,I feel ya on that.Man, he just went the hell off and really got into the whole thing? Made me smile big watching him go off like he did. He was Great!
its so sad drummer mike lee passed away. he had a seizure at his home when he was alone. so young....
That's the best live version I've ever heard Jimmy play
I never realized the guitar work on this was so complex and sophisticated. Wow. Just blown away.
that's why it is the beautiful genius creativity of Jimmy page..
+lakhman moktan Actually, not that complex, but sophisticated yes. Jimmy as he often did, uses an alternate tuning. Gives it a very cool vibe and sound.
#JimmyPageKicksAss ✌🏻😎🤘🏻
+Joe Primal It's because you're so primal! :-)
Undoubtedly one of their best songs... and sadly too often this gem is underrated .... it's a musical masterpiece !
It’s better that way. Let them dig to find the hidden gem. They’ll be rewarded for their searching efforts
That little nod Robert gives to Jimmy at the end as if to say, "Yes, mate, we still got it."
Maybe the most beautiful song ever done by Zeppelin
Agreed, Jimmy pages flair for meloncholic and mesmerising melodies is impeccable. That augmented line cliché makes me feel a certain way, almost a sense of bliss and hopelessness at the same time. Also the sound of the openess of the open tuning plus the string section reminds me of As tears go by from Rolling Stones/ Marianne Faithfull. Beautiful song
Whomever disliked this obviously cannot ever fathom the possible depths of vocal and acoustic beauty...
Richard Wolfe LOL I laugh but it's true. Music from heaven, this is.
I sold my soul to the devil and still love this song
Faiz Ahmad
dont do that 😒
the devil is sneaky & evil,,,buy your soul back, with Gods grace, you are worth it! 🌸
This song has always been one of my favorites by Zeppelin and I still love it 40 years later.
This song is one of the reasons I feel Led Zeppelin is what every band has aspired to become and none have come close. The GOAT.
There are good songs, there are great songs, and then there's The Rain Song...
Well said :)
Being able to see Page/Plant in 95 was a dream come true! I was 5 when Bonham died so I never thought I would get the chance to see these guys live.
My father died the same day John Bonham died…September 25,1980.
My Husband’s initials are JP and he was born on Jimmy Page’s birthday, January 9.
I was born five days after Robert Plant was born. 8/25/1948 and 8/20/1948
I’ve had dreams about Robert Plant and he was so real.
I love the nod that Plant gives Page at 7:26 "Damn dude, you killed that..."
They knew it was a beautiful thing.
It’s come to my attention the purpose of this song is to help you cry when you need to. Just a little rain. Then we move on into the summer of my smile. 🌞
In my opinion, this is the greatest song ever written
I’ve come to that conclusion myself a few times as well, nothing like it. It’s like it’s been around since the beginning of time.
Love it
I couldn’t agree more. Brings out so much emotion in me.
Pretty badass,..
Absolutely
It is the springtime of my loving
The second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing
So little warmth I've felt before
It isn't hard to feel me glowing
I watched the fire that grew so low, oh
It is the summer of my smiles
Flee from me, keepers of the gloom
Speak to me only with your eyes
It is to you I give this tune
Ain't so hard to recognize, oh
These things are clear to all from time to time, ooh
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh
Talk talk, talk, talk
Hey, I felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go
I cursed the gloom that set upon us, 'pon us, 'pon us, 'pon us
But I know that I love you so
Oh, but I know
That I love you so
These are the seasons of emotion
And like the wind, they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion
I see the torch
We all must hold
This is the mystery of the quotient, quotient
Upon us all, upon us all a little rain must fall
Just a little rain, oh
Ooh, yeah-yeah-yeah
Written by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant
Im in the process of learning this song, ive been playing for 40 years and really regret not having learned this particular master piece, I suppose I always just appreciated the beauty of it
tune your guitar to DGCGCD
Same as me … I started learning it today… I’m 55 … enjoy! 🤘🏼
I wish you good luck. Please don’t hold yourself up to Jimmy Pages standard. Just beautiful.
Page is a genius to come up with these melodic chords . Brilliant!
Their smiles at the end are just pure love and joy. That's what I'm talking about!
true smiles
One of the best guitarists in the world right there
This is for me the most beautiful song ever written.
Its truly amazing
If this isn't your favorite Led Zeppelin Song I don't know what is. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁
🎯
This song speaks to how life is. Upon us all a little rain must fall. ☔️☔️☔️🌧️🌧️🌨️
With this special DGCGCD tuning and of course this beautiful song, Mr. Page has brought out such depths of guitar that go beyond the relationship between a person and an object (guitar). It goes far beyond that ... Thank you master! It is an eternal experience for us! 🥲
i will try that tuning. cool!
Ok. I play with normal tuning for years, decades
DGCGCD Is propably easyest
maybe the the most beautiful song by the most beautiful band ever written ever...... definitely
Robert Plant is always spot on, a perfect match to Jimmy Page's guitar work. Beautiful song, incredible performance. Love those smiles at the end to one another.
Those back up musicians must have felt like heaven knowing they were with two of the greatest rock musicians of all time
The little nod that Robert gives Jimmy at the very end
+Jim Bo I noticed that too. Kind of a "Right on" nod, very cool. If you'd like to enjoy another little moment like that, check out Ginger Baker's little "eye raise" to Clapton after "White Room" on the live at Albert Hall Cream reunion show.
+Jim Bo Yup. Like, "We're still the best."
Plant did an AWESOME job but did not hit the notes as he did before while singing this song...showed great control here~ Plant nods to Jimmy because Plant knew that Jimmy got finer with age with respect to this song and his AWESOME performance...just my guess~ An excellent performance by everyone involved!
This isnt a song... Its a "Piece" ...and its phenomenal
Amazing to listen to on a chilly and rainy Las Vegas afternoon 💜
@@Chicken5516 any day is a great day to listen to led zeppelin !!!!! J.g. Monterey, California..........
You took the words right out of my mouth. Finished listening to this on iTunes and said “what a phenomenal piece”
There's no words enough to describe this song. The combination between Plant's smoothness and Page's total mastery is just transcedental.
That's it!!! If this song isn't played at my Funeral,,,, I ain't even going to show up!!
Of there wasn't an aptly named song Great Gig in the Sky, I would think the same...
Lol, great line. Such dedication!
Their smiles at the end. Such a gorgeous song.
Jimmy is such a pure musician
The magnitude, diversity and beauty of Jimmy Page's guitar work is unparalleled.
today's music isn't delivered to touch your soul like this...music like this is becoming rare..
nah thats old fart bs...open ur ears and mind tho its probably too late
+Robert Bermudez nah I disagree. It's the young mind that thinks talent is something your born with.
+Liberty AboveAllElse You do realize that Led Zeppelin isn't an American band....right?
Jimmy tossing his pick at 7:03, Robert's subtle nod at the song's end... and a stunningly beautiful masterpiece from Zep's incredible catalog. Wonderful video.
Most underrated zeppelin song ever.
I love LZ's rockers but songs like this, and "Ten Years Gone", "Goin' to California", and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" are what really show off their compositional genius for me. What a mythic band.
Freakin Legend, every single guitar note on this song is Beautiful
Jimmy sounds fantastic on this one, as in all of his music. A true master of music.
Perhaps one of the greatest songs ever written !!!!
Indeed it is! Such a beautiful song.
The chords are as deep as any chord can get, into the soul.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Amazing colours, emotions, moods and landscapes, a visceral treasure for the soul.
Well articulated
7:04 - The iconic Jimmy Page "Pick Toss"
7:28 - The approving Robert Plant "Head nod"
You nailed it
this has to be the greatest underrated song ever
This is my favorite song. Been playing guitar for 25 years I can play the most technical guitar in the world but none of that means shit compared how this song makes me feel on a warm sunny day in the sand at the Pacific ocean. When I play this on my guitar I truly find peace and love! To me it's the greatest day I've ever had everytime I play this on my acoustic guitar at the beach.
This is proof that music is the most powerful thing ever created by humans, if you disagree, I will still pray for you….
I don't disagree but God created it first
Absolutely, glory be to god!!!
Plant and Page were flawless here. Sweet performance !!
Greatest "male duet" ever!!
4:44. That drummer waited his entire life for that moment
For sure. And worth waiting...
Who is that on the drums ? Carried his own
Michael lee great drummer. Rip
Every times I hear the opening notes of this song I'm taken back to my teens in the 70's. I smiled through this whole performance. Just beautiful ❤
Me too...... man the years go fast.
We are the teenagers that got to hear this transcendent music on the radio when we were kids and radiates strong still
Right!
Beautiful, Simply Beautiful... I saw Led Zeppelin in 77 Pontiac Silverdome my father took me I was 14 years old thanks pops I miss you
I was there too 💖
@toppjimi7776 no shit, it is a small world but I wouldn't want to paint it yesterday was the anniversary April 30th 1977
