This video changed my life, all this time I legit thought you had to get the floss all the way down and scrape and floss the inside the gum. I did not know it was just scraping the actual teeth.
I've been working on better dental hygiene due to the risk of getting gum disease which I have come very very close to getting. I dont think I've been flossing correctly so this video was very helpful.
very informative, and love that you actually mentioned the little footnotes like the difference between floss and tape. Very good flow. I grew up using a tongue scraper (it comes as a metal/plastic thin flat strip. I use plastic as the aluminium one tends to make my tongue bleed) as part of my oral hygiene, I wonder what your views are on them?
I'm 32. I just started flossing over a year ago. I floss every single night. I noticed I rarely have bad breath. I already have a very good pral hygiene, but flossing took it to the next level. Start flossing people !!!
The whole time I thought I was doing a good job flossing but now I realized I've been flossing way too aggressively by forcefully running the floss over the papilla back and forth multiple times. From now on I'm going to be a lot more careful and hopefully my gums can improve.
@@ImpulsoCreativo9322 I well I think my gums are starting to grow back, only because I don't feel as much air pass through my teeth when I'm done flossing. So I think it's an improvement
I've never flossed, but my dentist says I have to start right? After she cleans my teeth, she herself flosses my teeth which really confuses me, because she was doing it really AGGRESSIVELY. Me not knowing if this is really what flossing just feels like on a daily basis was dreading flossing. Thank you for the explanation!
I watch this video every now and then for that icy cold reminder to floss, oil pull, supplement with vit d, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium and vitamin k, and of course electric brush my mouth. what a revealing look at the harsh realities associated with negligent dental hygeine!
Best to use floss with fibers such as wax floss. Hold the floss between your fingers close which allows you to even get to the back teeth. Floss under the gums to remove the plaque that would infect the gums. If your gums bleed when you floss that means you need to floss to remove the plaque. You can floss twice a day to improve gum health. Hope this helps.
Hated the idea of flossing before, the idea of having it to rub it against the side of the gums bothered me. Now I learned that it wasn't necessary to do that and all I had to do was clean between the teeth. Thanks.
Wow this is a very helpful insight into what happens down there. It shows me that it's really as simple as flossing, but sadly i never learned it the proper way before. Really big thank you and you explained it 👌 perfectly
Thank you for the Tip Joseph R Nemeth! I usually floss for me 6 year old son to start him off! I make sure to force his mouth wide and his Jaw to be separated from his upper teeth as he can! I hope there is a way to do the way you do it! I will make sure try it! Edit: I cracked his jaw, he’s in the hospital. Shame, he is getting the belt tonight.
visited my dentist the other day and the hygienist told me to start flossing daily , specially for the following two weeks. I have never flossed my entire life so this is my first time doing so. The thing is , whenever I attempt to floss , the strings gets stuck between my teeth and i get into panic mode, unable to pull it out. Help ?
I wasn't finding this video I was finding how to floss with your hands like a boss not teeth floss I clicked the wrong video but I watched the whole video lol!
I add a few drops of tea tree oil to my toothbrush along with the toothpaste everytime I brush. I try to brush roughly around 30 minutes after I eat to prevent plaque buildup.
I don't understand one thing I am new to flossing and all the videos out there show you that you have to bring your floss under the gum line and go up and down but here you said we should not irritate the Papilla so should I still bring the floss under the gumline without irritating it or I should not do that at all ?
Your dentist is wrong aha. If you have new crowns, they may mean not pull it up because it could pop it off. But otherwise do it how he is in the video.
I think I know what you mean. I'm pretty sure my dental hygienist said to take the floss/tape down to the gum line and gently push and pull back and forth. She never said anything about turning it to the side to do the 'walls'
i mean there's no science to it! do it every which way for best results obviously! up down, side to side, there is no wrong way to floss, just don't hurt your gums is all. The floss cleans the teeth, it doesn't damage them. The more surface area you pass them through, the more it's cleaning.
I just started flossing and feel it's not even doing anything lol I'm 37 and havent flossed in my entire life but I recently turned 37 and running into a midlife crisis lol I'm a smoker so I'm starting to take better care if myself and my teeth. So far I bought a expensive oral b electric toothbrush, started with mouthwashes and whitening paste and washes. My teeth are a little yelliw
31 , and today is my very first time flossing, because I had a terrible experience in the dentist last week. I never experience tooth sensitivity before the filling last week. 😭 I never flossed, but I brush my teeth regularly, hardly drink any sugary drinks, but still managed to get cavities on my molar teeth. Doctor recommends flossing so here I am learning how to floss.
I remember 2 years ago I had 13 cavities even though I flossed and brushed my teeth everyday and the dentist told me I was lying :/ they even told me to stop eating candy even though I didn’t even eat candy lol
I trust you.I was having severe gum problems for days.I did everything dentist recommended. After a week I don't know what went across my mind I stopped using mouthwash, and pain reduced to great extent.Well I have been using listerine throughout my life but I somehow started believing that was harming my gums
Just got my braces off today and I can finally floss without having to maneuver over wires. I think I'm going to use those toothpicks that comes with the floss already installed instead of the "old fashioned way" though.
Начни сегодня -- It feels nice! I've already gotten used to feeling my teeth without the wires. Got my retainers sometime last week and really those are annoying.
I've used those prefilled floss gadgets, I didn't like them. The floss isn't very taut, it gets really loose and saggy, and the floss breaks really easily.
I liked this video. Very educational. I think some points I would have benefited from hearing would be, how to get to the back of the mouth and how many times should one floss. But over all great video
When sliding the floss up against 1 tooth, is it ok to continue up against the tooth past the papilla...or Is this going too far up where the papilla can be irritated ? Is this the correct way to floss whereby you come back down below the papilla and move to the adjacent tooth and repeat along side of next tooth?
Thank you for this..seeing how to do it really helps..and your explaining so well..to gum or not to gum.? That's the question from all these comments..?
Another tip that wasn't mentioned in this video is that if you hold the floss at an angle it will slide between the teeth much easier! That will make it less likely that you will damage the papilla.
Yes but could you show it on yourself for you could never have the whole hand inside themouth - and I have always wonderedhave it is possible to floss the back teeth ?
I thought I was taking great care of my teeth and gums. I brush and use mouth wash twice daily and floss every night. I went to the dentist today for the first time in 3 years and found out I actually have pretty bad gum disease because I was just flossing between my teeth and not going below the gum line. I also didn't know that you're supposed to floss between your very back tooth and gum. I'm 23 and always visited the dentist regularly up until the last few years and now I feel REALLY stupid knowing I've been flossing wrong this entire time and thinking my teeth were really healthy
Actually, once between the teeth, wrap around the side of the tooth like the letter "u", then gently slice under the gum. Once under the gum go side to side around the side of the tooth - this motion flosses the corners of the tooth. The up and down motion shown in the video flosses Only directly between the teeth, but the bacteria is on the corners of the teeth and those areas need to be flossed too!
I have such a hard time trusting dentists. I've had 4 different dentist teach me how to floss 4 different ways and I'm really not sure which way is completely right... I've always been really good about brushing my whole life. Flossing regularly for a decade and still bleeding made dentists turn me to using an waterpik instead. I had one dentist do such a bad job on a cavity filling it became a root canal by age 15. I had another dentist do silver fillings at age 19 and every one of those filling still cause me pain 7 years later. I had one dentist tell me that root canal has to be redone. She was too expensive so I went to another dentist and he said the root canal looks fine he wanted to focus on the fillings. Couldn't afford him either. So now I'm 26 with the shittieat dental insurance, at least 4 cavaties that I know of, and a root canal that causes me consistent pain and silver filings that tingle my jaw when I bite or floss near it. I brush and waterpik daily. Floss 3-6 times a week. And yet I still have terrible mouth health... 😭😭😭
I feel your pain, pretty much the same history here. My teeth went much better when I changed the diet to low plants, but I can't fix the past completely. Dentists mistakes combined with my own will cost me the struggle for the rest of my life.
Since I cut out 99% and more of carbohydrates (sugar, bread, milk, most fruits, etc...) out of my diet, my teeth stay clean. All day long. Every day of the week ! Flossing and detal sticks are still needed, but far less than before. Also, because of the lack of carbohydrates, my breath stays fresh, no bad smell anymore. And my teeth stay whiter, as well. I also visit a specialist twice a year. She cleanes my teeth thouroughly, although with the new diet, VERY little cleaning is needed, now.
I follow the Keto diet. It's called diet, but it's for life. Diet actually means "the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.". I went Keto 100%, from one day to the other. In retrospect, maybe not the best of ideas, but I had to take a decision. I had to be strict. Diabetes truly ruins your body. Now, after 6 weeks, I barely use insulin anymore. I am losing 2 pounds of weight per week. My skin looks and FEELS (!!!) better than ever before. Wow, what a difference. My toothbrush is an Oral B Pro 600. Once I bought it, I decided to look up how it came out, in tests. It was the best, since all of those electric toothbrushes perform about the same. The Pro 600 is the cheapest, so its score was highest. Best buy, for sure. With a carbo-free diet you don't need much toothpaste anymore, since your teeth are always clean. I use Oral B 3D White Luxe, but only very little. I also floss and use plastic dental sticks. After brushing, I rinse with Listerine. Thanks to this diet, my teeth have NO MORE plaque, whatsoever. I no longer eat food that can stick to my teeth. My recommendation to EVERYONE who cares about their teeth: buy an electric toothbrush. These things outperform ANY existing classic brush by MILES. No contest. HUGE difference !!! To my big surprise, I can handle this diet far better than I thought I would. Mainly because you DON"T have to eat LESS !! You don't have to be hungry. Simply do NOT eat carbohydrates. You can still eat fruit and chocolate (VERY dark, ofcourse (less sugar!!)) but I only eat a few berries along with the fattest yoghurt there is. Fat is GOOD. You can eat lots of it, as long as you do NOT eat sugar !! I eat plenty of calories, but no more than necessary. Since fasting is one of THE best ways to spend your day, I also fast. I eat one meal a day and I feel fine. I have been doing it for about a week, without being hungry. Do NOT try this from the start. You might do damage to your body. Do NOT listen to your private physician/general practitioner (they are all liars and are incompetent). Look up the _good_ people, on internet : - Dr. Sten Ekberg - Dr. Ken D. Berry - Dr. Dan Maggs - Dr. Jonny Bowden ("The Great Cholesterol Myth") - Dr. Stephen Phinney
@@telescopereplicator thanks for replying, that was a very thorough answer! :) I also use an electric toothbrush but sometimes i use a manual one because of the noise and when it's late at night i don't want to wake my family, but the difference in cleaning is night and day, the electric one is fantastic! I ordered a Waterpik a few days ago because flossing for me isn't too easy and i usually hurt myself by accident with the wire. I also cut a lot of sugar from my diet. Some products that i like have a lot of sugar in them which is a shame but i just stopped eating them. What about sports though? isn't carbohydrates important for people who practice sports? Or for fitness in general? I will look up the people you talked about :)
Sports is unnatural and unecessary for people. Just make sure you get plenty of exercise. Walking is good enough. Every now and then an intense but short exercise is necessary. This video explains why (Dr Ekberg also talks about it in one of his videos) : ruclips.net/video/VWtaLLjJzn4/видео.html Too much sports elevates your heart rate, blood pressure, glucose and insuline levels and metabolism. It therefor increases your hunger, making "cheating" a bit too easy.......... Intense sports where lots of running is involved are bad for your feet, knees, hips and joints. And ligaments. The prolonged high heart rate is bad for the heart. Way too much work for no reason, actually. Your heart is quite literally the motor of your body. Treat is well, or else................!!!! Yoga in combination with walking, is good enough. The Japanese have Tai Chi. If you still want to do a lot of sports, make sure you eat the correct type of carbohydrates. Fruit and bread are carbs. Eat them sparingly. Bread must be as dark and pure as possible. Dark rye bread is very good, but still, do not eat too much. Here is another great tip: Use the Glycemic Index to find out what is good to eat and what not. The lower the number the more you can eat of it. Also use the Insuline Index. This one may even be more important than the GI. Example: potatoes and white bread have a GI of 90 (!!). Glucose is the standard: 100. Water is 0, or close to it). Carbs to avoid: (White) bread, potatoes, sugar, anything with glucose-fructose in it, rice, corn (maïs), melons, sports drinks and soft drinks : (Gatorade, Coke, Fanta, etc...), sweeteners (yes, they are even worse than sugar !! (See video Dr. Ekberg!!)), popcorn, French fries, etc........... Which oils to avoid: Sunflower oil, Canola oil (rapeseed oil), transfats (margarine butter), peanut oil. Just watch all videos of Dr. Sten Ekberg. He explains everything in detail. But remember: bread was born out of necessity, out of an emergency. ALL types of bread are made out of grass seeds.....!! Grass is for cows, not for people. The Inuit (Eskimos) eat mostly fat meat and fat fish and they are super healthy and live long. If you cut out carbs (except fruit) you may consume just about all types of fats and oil, except the ones mentioned. Cholesterol is GOOD (egg yolk, f.i.). The human brain has 25% of your bodies cholesterol. Your body NEEDS this oil. Olive oil, coconut butter, grass butter.....all good (Bulletproof Coffee -> RUclips !!). Yes, you may eat food with a GI of 51 and higher, but the higher the number, the less and the less often you should eat it !! And ofcourse: FASTING !!! Fasting is the big secret to a healthy, long life. And it may improve your sports performances. (Again : Dr. Sten Ekberg....) Being skinny or slender does not automatically mean you are healthy. Malnourished people are skinny too.... Having a big belly does not mean you are sick, either. Eat well, eat HEALTHY food ONLY. Losing weight and get the optimal, super healthy body is then just a matter of time. Another great plus : With the Keto diet and fasting, you have to buy less food, therefor you can (or must) spend your money on quality food. Now you can spend your money on a luxury life !! ;-) It's easy to live well and eat well. Try and find out...........................
@HCNN87 ...Okay then... DO IT !!! ;-) The great thing about keto is, that you DO NOT need to be hungry. Ever. Unless you choose to do some fasting, a couple of days per week. And even then you can have little snack to ease the hunger. A few tablespoons of olive oil will take away you appetite. AND your cravings for sweet thing ! And without bread, pasta, rice, jam, syrup and other sugary things, there is little food left that can stick to your teeth !! Since I started this diet, at the beginning of the year, I have had ZERO plaque !! Not kidding. I still floss and use dental sticks, ofcourse, but keeping my teeth clean is incredibly easy. So... give it a try !!!
I've been flossing for a week now and I've gotten more familiar with it, now I can reach all my teeth. It takes me time though to adjust with my big fingers

I've been working on better dental hygiene due to the risk of getting gum disease which I have come very very close to getting. I dont think I've been flossing correctly so this video was very helpful.
Ive been flossing the wrong way my whole lifee!😰
It's never too late to change!
Me too. And I feel so bad for the damage Ive caused
I've been sawing at my papillas thinking it was the correct way to floss. Explains the blood. Thankyou for the video.
I'm 21 and I think I've been flossing wrong all my life. I usually go down all the way on the sides of the teeth, next to the papilla. :(
Unconventional Reality samee lmao
Same.
So sorry ouch

I had no idea the floss shouldn't touch the gums. Learn something new every day.
very informative, and love that you actually mentioned the little footnotes like the difference between floss and tape.
Start flossing people !!!
don't wait till u get hit with a $2000 dentist bill like me!
Thank you Penis.
I snap the floss down and hit my papilla then question why my gums bleed 🙄😂. Nice to know!
I just bought mine from this website too!! So excited!! thanks a lot for this review!!
The whole time I thought I was doing a good job flossing but now I realized I've been flossing way too aggressively by forcefully running the floss over the papilla back and forth multiple times. From now on I'm going to be a lot more careful and hopefully my gums can improve.
Me too. Have u seen improvement? They get on me so much in the dentist office, that I get aggressive majorly with the floss. I did a lot of damage
@@ImpulsoCreativo9322 I well I think my gums are starting to grow back, only because I don't feel as much air pass through my teeth when I'm done flossing. So I think it's an improvement
@@FinancialCharles thats awesome. Thanks for sharing! I hope I can get it too and get my gum issues under control.
I actually got gaps from flossing the incorrect way so I’m grateful I found this
when you realize you have been flossing wrong your whole life
Best to use floss with fibers such as wax floss. Hold the floss between your fingers close which allows you to even get to the back teeth. Floss under the gums to remove the plaque that would infect the gums. If your gums bleed when you floss that means you need to floss to remove the plaque. You can floss twice a day to improve gum health. Hope this helps.
Welp. Thank you for terrifying me into never forgetting to floss again!
Seriously though, thank you for this video!
Thank very much appreciate this information.

I hate flossing 😩

I came here to learn how tot floss but i learned so much more. thank you
thank you.. i have been flossing my teeth wrong... Thank you for this.
i just watched this while flossing! thanks for the tutorial!
visited my dentist the other day and the hygienist told me to start flossing daily , specially for the following two weeks. I have never flossed my entire life so this is my first time doing so. The thing is , whenever I attempt to floss , the strings gets stuck between my teeth and i get into panic mode, unable to pull it out. Help ?
Thanks! Well-done and well-explained lesson. I picked up some valuable pointers.

I don't understand one thing I am new to flossing and all the videos out there show you that you have to bring your floss under the gum line and go up and down but here you said we should not irritate the Papilla so should I still bring the floss under the gumline without irritating it or I should not do that at all ?
more than the parasitevthe other germs squiggling about freaked me out
I would literally bite down on my floss stick to snap it between my back hard to reach teeth 😳 thank you for the informative video!
Thanks so much. I always have food stuck in my teeth and I’ve been flossing the wrong way so the food was hard to get out lol
i try to stay away from food that will get stuck between my teeth like chicken wings and mangos are the worst!
Surprisingly few comments about the revolting magnification footage! (But useful video)
I've been recently told that flossing "up and down" is incorrect. Hmm
The dentist said I'm supposed to floss forward and backward between the teeth.
What about under the gums? Shouldn’t we clean them too?
I just started flossing and feel it's not even doing anything lol I'm 37 and havent flossed in my entire life but I recently turned 37 and running into a midlife crisis lol I'm a smoker so I'm starting to take better care if myself and my teeth. So far I bought a expensive oral b electric toothbrush, started with mouthwashes and whitening paste and washes. My teeth are a little yelliw
Don't smoke
31 , and today is my very first time flossing, because I had a terrible experience in the dentist last week. I never experience tooth sensitivity before the filling last week. 😭
I never flossed, but I brush my teeth regularly, hardly drink any sugary drinks, but still managed to get cavities on my molar teeth. Doctor recommends flossing so here I am learning how to floss.
Thank you Doc you're a legend!

I too would be grateful for an expert opinion on this

Thanks for your time.
You're welcome!
I remember 2 years ago I had 13 cavities even though I flossed and brushed my teeth everyday and the dentist told me I was lying :/ they even told me to stop eating candy even though I didn’t even eat candy lol
Nah I still think your lying

I trust you.I was having severe gum problems for days.I did everything dentist recommended. After a week I don't know what went across my mind I stopped using mouthwash, and pain reduced to great extent.Well I have been using listerine throughout my life but I somehow started believing that was harming my gums
Definitely like watching your videos they have great advice and gives me more confidence on taking care of my teeth 👍👍
He said don't use the same area of floss repeatedly
I've used those prefilled floss gadgets, I didn't like them. The floss isn't very taut, it gets really loose and saggy, and the floss breaks really easily.
I liked this video. Very educational. I think some points I would have benefited from hearing would be, how to get to the back of the mouth and how many times should one floss. But over all great video
He said diabetus!!!! 😂😂😂
You can also buy floss picks. They make it easier to floss and you don't have to guesstimate the length.
thank you so much bro ;) now we can deport the bacteria with the FLOSS :D
When sliding the floss up against 1 tooth, is it ok to continue up against the tooth past the papilla...or Is this going too far up where the papilla can be irritated ?
Is this the correct way to floss whereby you come back down below the papilla and move to the adjacent tooth and repeat along side of next tooth?
he reminds me of Clint Eastwood
Lmao no he remind me of Angel Eyes in The Good The Bad & The Ugly with that nose..
He reminds me of Larry King

Thank you for this..seeing how to do it really helps..and your explaining so well..to gum or not to gum.? That's the question from all these comments..?
looks like I need a little bit more practicing, I always go deep to the papilla by accident

Nice to know I have been doing it right!
How many times a week?
Every day
A week? lmao at least once a day
@@anshumaangangwar LMAOO
@@anshumaangangwar smart
3x a day, 7 days a week.
Would do recommend LAPT ? Up and down motion pushes bacteria further down no?
I loved when you were a quarterback for the Jets :p

Since I cut out 99% and more of carbohydrates (sugar, bread, milk, most fruits, etc...) out of my diet, my teeth stay clean. All day long. Every day of the week !
Flossing and detal sticks are still needed, but far less than before.
Also, because of the lack of carbohydrates, my breath stays fresh, no bad smell anymore.
And my teeth stay whiter, as well.
I also visit a specialist twice a year. She cleanes my teeth thouroughly, although with the new diet, VERY little cleaning is needed, now.
i'm interested in this, can you tell me what kind of diet you follow? also what toothpaste and brush you use?
Look up the _good_ people, on internet :
- Dr. Sten Ekberg
- Dr. Ken D. Berry
- Dr. Dan Maggs
- Dr. Jonny Bowden ("The Great Cholesterol Myth")
- Dr. Stephen Phinney
@@telescopereplicator thanks for replying, that was a very thorough answer! :)
I also use an electric toothbrush but sometimes i use a manual one because of the noise and when it's late at night i don't want to wake my family, but the difference in cleaning is night and day, the electric one is fantastic!
This video explains why (Dr Ekberg also talks about it in one of his videos) :
ruclips.net/video/VWtaLLjJzn4/видео.html
Too much sports elevates your heart rate, blood pressure, glucose and insuline levels and metabolism.
Here is another great tip:
Use the Glycemic Index to find out what is good to eat and what not.
Sten Ekberg....)
Being skinny or slender does not automatically mean you are healthy.
Now you can spend your money on a luxury life !! ;-)
It's easy to live well and eat well.
Try and find out...........................
@HCNN87 ...Okay then... DO IT !!! ;-)
The great thing about keto is, that you DO NOT need to be hungry.
