One of the greatest anime movies, no, movies in general to exist. It's music, animation quality, characters, storytelling, thematic thesis on the nature of identity and existential consciousness and difference between man and machine were truly groundbreaking and popularized an entire school of thought in media as well as pop culture. It directly inspired the wachowskis to create the matrix.
I totally agree, it is a masterpiece of cinema.
You Inu, I haven't seen you since hopefully games FSN play though.
@@Twiska hello friend!
@@MrInuhanyou123 I've had a few name changes over the years; I think I was SuperSmexySantaAlter when I first met you, then SwordBoi. I knew we watched the same FSN play throughs, Tanner, Yoro and Hope, but this is the first time I saw you on a non-fate video.
Ghost in the Shell animation is a whole franchise with 3 movies, two seasons of Stand Alone Complex, 2 seasons of Arise, and two seasons of Ghost in the Shell 2045. And a live action movie with Scarlet Johanssen. I've watched it all and loved every incarnation of it. But it all began with this movie you're about to watch. Awesome!
Whoever does your thumbnails... chef's kiss🤌
Eight other nails are feeling left out of the conversation....
To each his/her own. I really hate them to the point that I am skipping her reactions. Loved her channel, but not the thumbs. But glad you all like them.
Check out Akira. One of the best anime movies.
Yes, definitely
Alongside Perfect Blue, I definitely back you on this!!!
One of the very best greatest.
1:46, she really isn't naked. The suit she is wearing is like a second skin and generates the optical illusion of invisibility. You can see the top of the suit collar around her neck.
2:15, okay there in the building sequence she is naked. LOL.
Yes, but also: fan service.
but her body is made of machine parts so its not really naked is it? she doesnt have a body, you cant be naked if u dont have a body.
@@env0x when it comes down to it, aren't we all made of machine parts?
@@env0x Sure.
I'm sorry, this thumbnail is as almost hilarious as the Beavis and Butthead one 😂. Also, GITS is just *chef's kiss* perfection
I leave the list in chronological order of the extensive universe of the "The Ghost and The Shell" franchise. Movie - Ghost in the Shell (1995)
Movie - Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004)
Anime - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (2002-2006)
OVA - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: The Laughing Man (2005)
Movie - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society (2006)
OVA - Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG - Individual Eleven (2006). Movie - Ghost in the Shell Arise. Border:1 Ghost Pain (2013)
Movie - Ghost in the Shell Arise. Border:2 Ghost Whispers (2013)
Movie - Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Border 3: Ghost Tears (2014)
Movie - Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Border 4: Ghost Stands Alone (2014)
Movie - Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Pyrophoric Cult (2015)
Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045 (2020) in Netflix
Although the films The Ghost and The Shell: Arise were released later, they are the origins of Mokoto Kusanagi, therefore, picking up to see them after Ghost in The Shell 2: Innocence
This comment deserves more attention.

This, Akira and the old Bubblegum Crisis series were my introduction to cyberpunk back in the 90s.
Did you see the remake of Bubblegum Crisis? It's like a new studio remade the entire series with new animation but with nearly the exact same script. It was a weird experience to watch.
@@Codametal Was it the 2024 one, or was there another one?
I've only seen the original (and still have them on DVD).
Yeah, this Akira and fist of the north star were my first introduction to anime
@@Ilix42 I don't now off hand what year it came out in. I didn't watch it when I discovered that it was just a redo. Bubblegum Crash was the last that I've watched. I really liked the music from Bubblegum Crisis.
@@Codametal The Newer Bubblegum Crisis made my skin crawl, with the musical vocals. Terrible!
The original had much better music score.
Yo the thumbnail for this is the funniest thing I ever seen
Older anime is just so different
If you liked this movie and also anime like Cowboy Bebop, there's a GitS series called Stand Alone Complex, 2 seasons and a movie, that I think is still one of if not the best and most intellectual anime I've ever seen.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the singer of the intros in the show is Russian, the wonderful Origa.
I was 10 years old when this came out. Exactly 2.5 years later my uncle bought this for me as a Christmas gift on VHS. It changed my world.
Hell yeah. One on the greatest cyberpunk movies of all time.
High tech, low life.
Both the movies and shows are some of my favorites among all. Really incredible stories that intrigue and awe.
Keep making these hilarious thumbnails, dont listen to haters, you have more people who support you! Loved the reaction! Stay awesome! ❤🎉
Ghost in the Shell is an amazing franchise. Stand Alone Complex is my personal favorite. A TV show version with a a combination of long running investigations and "stand alone" episodes where the team tackles single unrelated crimes.
I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around the ending of GITS 2045.
@@Codametal Innocence is the one that really twists my brain, but i got a soft spot for old "Sleepless Eye" Batou. That guy is alright in my book.
@@WaywardVet I like all of the characters, but the Major is still my favorite. In SAC, she wasn't as cold as the original movie, but I also love the voice actress they used in the english dub and glad they reused her (and everyone else) in 2045.
That thumbnail is equally hilarious and disturbing 😂
Funny you mentioned tv. Ghost In THe Shell Stand Alone Complex is a tv show.
I love TACHIKOMA 🤣 Tank spiders that think like children. 😆
One note about those “triplets” you mentioned… they’re fully machine, disposal and interchangeable. They’re refered to in English translations of manga I’ve seen as “speakers”, and serve entirely utilitarian roles. They have no individual personalities, emotions, or free will. They’re about as important as an office fax machine.
Dasha, please react to "Perfect Blue"! It's an outstanding psychological horror anime film that inspired "Black Swan" with Natalie Portman.
By inspired you mean totally ripped off.
@@scottneil1187 I was trying to be polite.
I was lucky enough to catch this in the theater. I maintain the intro to this movie is one of the greatest I have ever seen.
This is the first Ghost in The Shell movie. There is a stand alone sequel to this movie called Innocence. And Ghost in The Shell 2.0 is basically like a directors cut. Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex is basically a reiteration. Stand Alone Complex is an anime show. That show has 2 seasons. The intro for the first season is in my opinion one of the best anime intros of all time. And there is a sequel film to the Stand Alone Complex show called Solid State Society. And recently they have also given a sub continuity series to the Stand Alone Complex show called SAC_2045. Of course one of the recent reiterations of Ghost in The Shell is Arise which the gave a recompilation called Arise-Alternative Architecture. And they gave a sequel movie to that as well. And now finally after all these years we are finally going to get a new Ghost in The Shell show that is said to release in 2026.
Absolute classic animae. It's one of those films that every generation should see.
This movie changed anime in the same way Blade Runner changed sci-fi (both can be traced back to authors Philip K. Dick and William Gibson). It also gave rise to my favorite Anime franchise of the same name. There is so much wonderful Ghost in the Shell content to explore, and if you jump way out of release order you can even place them in an approximate chronology. I hope you watch more in the future.
Keep up the great work Dasha!
oh wow, a classic!
Anime from back then was just so much better, Akira, this film, Dominion Tank Police, Ninja Scroll, Fist of the North Star, The Guyver, Crying Freeman, Doomed Megalopolis, Project A-KO and hundreds of others. So good.
I dont think the Scarlett movie does any justice. This film was my introduction. Then I saw "Stand Alone Complex" (a ghost in the shell TV show cartoon 'continuation'). Watch the 2 seasons of cartoon before you watch the "Live Action" film (in my opinion). The live action Scarlett film pulls lots of narrative from the movie and i think from the anime tv series. There is also a new Netflix Ghost in the Shell show that I skipped after watching no more than 10 minutes of the first episode... Watch order?
1. This movie
2. Ghost in the shell: stand alone complex season 1
3. Ghost in the shell: stand alone complex season 2
4. Ghost in the shell innocence
5 Ghost in the shell: arise (multiple parts, watch in release order...a prequel)
P.S. I've read the source material (manga). The 2 seasons of TV show are the closest we get to how the Major is portrayed in the Manga. This film is amazing in every way and one of the few instances where the source material is remolded from a silly/curious/hypothetical adventure into a serious/existential mind trip.
You're being real 'extra' about all this to someone that's going to watch this only 'once'.
Dasha is getting into anime? Sweet!
Two words: Ninja Scroll
That is all.
The feeling I get from watching futurism is that technology seems like magic in the real world. It’s like spells cast from the laws of science
Thank you for watching one of my all time favorite anime films. I wrote a paper on it in college, and it was one of my better essays. There’s a LOT of stuff you can get out of this, from a studies perspective.
The movie with Scarlet Johansson is a live adaptation of this one with some bits from the second anime. Yes you will want to watch the second anime, "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence". It's a real mind bender.
@DashaReacts Welcome to the world of anime.
👍🏼 I watch this one at least once a year. Some thing about the philosophy just makes me pause and ponder for more then I need to.
The style is called cyberpunk and this movie was the main visual inspiration for The Matrix. There is a 2 season series called Stand Alone Complex which is kind of both a prequel and a remake of this film, and its really good, more of a police procedural then this film. The live action movie took elements from this film and Stand Alone Complex in its adaptation. The rest of the Ghost in the Shell works are all not bad but they are their own take on the ideas put out by the original Manga.
Thank you So Much for watching the original Anime first.
To say this film was groundbreaking is a Massive understatement .
YEEEES Ghost in the shell is GOAT
Oh, no way, is the Puppetmaster's voice the same as the Architect in the Matrix?
No, Tom Wyner voiced the puppet master, Helmut Bakaitas played the architect.
She doesn't fight naked. She has a skin-tight suit to go invisible. You can see the difference between her face and shoulders and where the costume stops at the neck. She has the hood and veil to cover her face.
I think it's unfortunate that the the animators had to focus on breastesses. so much
the second movie is good but different, it's mostly about Batou going through a case and adventure, and Motoko only appears briefly.
The 2017 movie has less story than this, is a very different story about her origins which this movie doesn't cover.
Don't expect the same thing but a different sort of story with some of the characters and situations, and it's good.
It's funny that people criticize Johansen for being a bad actress in it, when she's playing a 98% emotionless cyborg... They said the same thing about Arnold for "the Terminator" 1984.
Another classic and acclaimed cyberpunk anime that I highly recommend is Akira from 1988
Thank you, that's what I wanted to say too.
The word your looking for is cyberpunk. This genre is called cyberpunk. Ir you want to watch more ghost in the shell I recommend stand alone complex.
You beat me to defining it for her. Cheers!
Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction in a dystopian futuristic setting.
science fiction > dystopan > cyberpunk
after this one there is a sequel called Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence that one I do recommend :)
There is more philosophy in this.
Wow, I haven't seen anyone else react to this!! I'm thrilled!
The movie with Scarlett Johansen is pretty much a frame by frame remake of this, it's excellent, and well worth a watch in my opinion. Which one who is to prefer is up to personal taste I think, wether one likes anime or live action better. However, this is the original.
Thanks for uploading! Greetings from Sweden
In my hunmble opinion the greatest manga of all time. That series with the laughing man, was the best manga/anime I have ever seen.
I’m going to start saying “fifthlets” now haha. I believe they were all probably mass produced cyborgs specifically for that job which is why they look the same. But I could be wrong hHa
I must confess at the first watch it got over my head. And it is still not my Favorite GitS Heresy I know, but I like GitS Stand-alone complex 1+2 and arise better
Most fans would probably say to avoid the 2017 live-action movie at all cost, but I don't mind it. It's got some good moments. Very different animal, you might say.
13:02 You talked about a boyfriend and girlfriend overthinking a relationship. There is a scene like that in Run Lola Run. I think you will like that movie.
I didn't even recognize you in your picture it was cool
@DashaReacts The 2017 movie should be watched after the Animated series. Only two seasons, but very strong. ✌️😺👍
One of the greatest animated film of all time. Don’t bother with the live action version, but the animated sequel is worth watching.
shes not naked, she has a thermooptical suit ;) and the secretarys look all the same because they are robots :)
Love the touch of detail when the spent shell fell in the puddle and started sizzling. I've had some experience with guns recently in my life and man can those get hot! They'll burn you if you aren't careful.
Epic movie.. Her soul was put into a different body. which pissed me off when people complained about scarlett playing her in the live action.. DUH she wasnt japanese in the anime movie. the body wasnt
Anime movies that I'd throw in the mix wherein the technology of the world is integrated into society in various ways.
Venus Wars (1989)
Wings of Honneamise (1987)
Metropolis (2001) - notable anime film, though Metropolis (1927) is the better known early sci-fi milestone of Black and White live action.
Summer Wars (2009)
Pale Cocoon (2006) Short sci-fi anime -only 23 minute runtime.
Dasha - the World building in Ghost in the Shell is really Amazing .
the Level of Detail of the City.
and the Little things like the School children .
Love the reaction!
Ghost in the Shell.
Never watch Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (It is just a poor re-edit of the original)
Ghost in the Shell Innocence.
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (prequel series) There are further movies and series down this rabbit hole... some good, some bad.
I've never watched the Scarlett Johansson "adaption" It is not connected to the others in any way. As far as I know it's more like it's a completely different story that's merely inspired by the original character.
I'd also recommend a Polish Movie "Avalon". It is a similar genre.
Lotta great themes in Ghost in the Shell. The source manga is also well worth a read for the gorgeous art by Masamune Shirow.
12:03 "They're subject to strict routine screening of their personal lives."
I guess the right to privacy got thrown out the window in Mega Tokyo, hmm?
This movie is so GOAT and one of the reasons I fell in love with anime. Im glad you enjoyed it and happy that you watched it before the live action, which is good but not as awesome as this is. You shld check out Ninja scroll and Akira, these are also top tier anime in the same style. I see you have a lot of other great reactions I haven't watched yet so I'm going to go binge them now. Keep up the great work and thanks for being awesome
One day you should watch tarkovsky films. Best russian film artist ever
The original movie is really all you need to watch.
I recommend another classic sf anime Akira (1988).
Motoko Kusanagi is mostly machine. The only part of her that is not machine is her brain 🧠. Her unashamed flaunting of her naked body is a visual representation of how much she is a machine. Not very emotional. More brain 🧠 than heart 💜. It is also a representation of how disconnected she is from the norms of humanity. In my humble opinion 😊.
Dasha - unlike ordinary Digital Camouflage , Thermal - Optical camo is nearly PERFECT .
because it camouflages heat as well.
so, yea you got to be Naked.
Digital camo hoodies can be Detected by shifting to Thermal detection , as the camo is Cooler than the Surrounding heat . creating a void .
the Majors camo , bleeds off heat in a Random Pattern. nearly impossible to Detect.
though She still casts a shadow in Daylight.
The thumbnails are great, I don't even like this stupid movie but she gets so excited about the movies
One cool trick for editing is to watch other reactions, after your reaction, use their edit as a blueprint or guideline for your edit. :)
again with the crazy thumbnail LMAO 🤣
Dasha - Kenjii Kawaii is a Legend in music circles.
very well Respected.
My personal favorite GitS series are Stand Alone Complex Season 1, and the ARISE series.
All the other GITS movies are good, some more than others. I would say it's almost like The Matrix, in that the first one is the best, but the subsequent movies aren't bad (like people say about The Matrix Sequels. IDK, I haven't seen them for like 10 years).
Haha "no merging under my watch" 😢
Yyyyyeah...TOTALLY because it's a better way to fight, it has nothing at all to do with titillation.
Nice. Now you are an official old school geek.
8:00 :D you got it! Who believes the false truth, now?
Pay attention to people who prove a point by saying something like, "what if I told....."
Imagine the affect on a person when you say in a general sense, "what if I told you, your assumptions and beliefs you have of this world 🌎🌍 or sub categories like government, company, what is right or wrong.... Is wrong and what I describe to you is the truth....
19:40 'Free the nipple!'
Am not an anime fan, but among the very few I Do like, this is one
Kf you get the chance watch the fill amime series. FYI a out the Major. She had a childhood disease that affected her motor functions, so they transferred her mind to a cybernetic body. As she got older she got. A more adult body.. the entire series was ask the question of who are we, where does the soul.reside.
Thank you Dasha
Ghost in the shell is more of a slower paced detective show while The live movie is ok but it's more of an action movie and drops a lot of the more in-depth subjects of the Anime .
The only thing I did not like in the live adaption was there origin story of the Major.
In the Anime she served in the military and left by forming her own section that fights cyber crime under the supervision of section 9.
With regards to a live movie adaptation of Animes or Manga than Alita Battle Angel was a lot better done, Rosa read the books to get into the main character. And yes I know you have already reviewed the 2019 movie. But then you can never watch Alita enough times ❤.
She can rip my arms off and beat me to death with the wet ends any time she wants 😂
You need to check out Akira too
this score is so amazing
Been loving the movie choices Dasha! Another top tier classic Anime is Akira
8:20 Blade Runner 2049
Dasha is so smart, great react.
I think I speak for all the guys, we prefer the top you wore recording The Conjuring reaction.
You gotta watch the live-action/CGI version with Scarlett Johansson after this.
The Scarlett Johansson movie is a very dumbed down version of this one. It takes more time and explains things as it goes. It's got a few nice things about it and watching ScarJo is the cherry on top.
You'd like "The Player" from 1992, it's a great movie. Please consider reviewing it.
Cyberpunk’s the best! Keep an eye for the upcoming Neuromancer series.
Please do cowboy bebop!
And Firefly!

Akira next.
Muy buena pelicula con toda la fuerza del anime japones con su estetica cyberpunk
Mejo esta version que la yanqui
“Innocence: Ghost in the Shell II” is a visually stunning sequel, but requires a great deal of patience and concentration to sit through.
I think it's also a lesser movie because of how groundbreaking the original was. It's also a lot more "talky" instead of showing its thematic values in its imagery. Still a good movie though
True, the film is full of philosophical monologues, but, interestingly, what I did not expect was to discover the case that was being investigated, truly macabre and disturbing.
I’ve always preferred ninja scroll.
Watch the anime series from the early 2000’s and the series sequel movie from 2007. They are masterpieces
Next I would recommend is project a ko.
Music... Kenji Kawai ❤
The major Dasha Kusanagi in the Shell
