Just like his father Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee was super talented and loveable. He died very young just like his father did. RIP Brandon Lee and Bruce Lee.
I wanna give a shoutout to Michael Wincott, his performance as Top Dollar manages to make the character fun without letting him become any less hateable. Definitely one of my all-time fav comic book movie villains.

@@theevilascotcompany9255 I highly doubt that. The Crow was filmed in 1993 and came out in 1994. The Matrix was filmed in 1998 and came out in 1999. Even if the screenplay was written in 1993, having a star connected to the project that early is very unlikely, as they wouldn't even have had a budget to negotiate Brandon's salary with. It's possible that Brandon read the script, liked it, and agreed to star in return for a percentage of the box office gross, but that happens very rarely in the film industry.
I just looked it up, and apparently the Wachowskis didn't start shopping the script around until 1994. Since Brandon Lee died in 1993, there's no way he could have been supposed to play Neo. Apparently this is just a rumor that you must have picked up somewhere and mistaken it for fact.

@@kooskoekemoer Same here. I think that the Wachowskis might have had Brandon Lee in mind for the role while they were writing the screenplay, but that's much different than him being set to play the role, or being up for the part.
@@Thundarr100 I actually heard that the role was offered to Will Smith but he turned it down because he though the plot was to complex and people might not understand it. I agree, there is no way the producers could have prearranged the role for Brandon Lee because of the timeline, like you said, maybe they only had him in mind, but even that sounds a bit unfeasible.
I really appreciate how Eric Draven is able to get his revenge in badass ways, but still shows his humanity in how kindly he treats children, and how he forms a bond with Albrecht.
And gets the drugs out of the girl's mother.

My friend and I walked out of the theatre ten minutes into the sequel. It’s the only movie I’ve ever walked out on. I’ve never tried to watch the others and I never will.
One of the worst things is when you hear what the sequel was meant to be versus what we got.
I watched all the sequels in the slim hope that at least one might be made by someone who knew what they were doing but I ended up disappointed each time.
i mean they are fine if done correctly. but they almost never are. read reviews a month after the sequel comes out and then decide.

That scene when he put on his makeup and clothes and approached the window while The Cure's greatest song was playing and lightning flashes are playing over his face is one of the most EPIC scenes in movies.
“People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right.”
30 years later this still holds up as one of the greatest comic book movies of all time, and it has an iconic soundtrack too.
Fun Fact: This movie played a very huge role in wrestling history (WCW and the WWF Monday Night Wars) in the 90s. A wrestler name Sting portrayed The Crow character all thanks to Scott Hall (RIP Scott Hall) who pitch that idea after seeing this movie and that idea became a huge hit and a huge success in popularity for Sting. Sting’s character was a colorful guy, after the rise of the nWo, Sting felt betrayed by the fans and the WCW wrestlers, even the nWo added fake Sting to throw WCW off. So the real Sting became Crow Sting and Sting had used that gimmick to this very day to his recent retirement.
I can't believe it's been 30 yrs since this came out. It was very influential for me and my goth aesthetic as a young impressionable 20 yr old in '94. Very nostalgic for me.

Indeed! Eric is a revenant, a dead person brought back for vengeance. Inhuman strength, difficult to stop, they return to their grave when their mission is complete.
Even once Shelley's attackers are dead, Eric can't rest until Top Dollar suffers for his crimes and Sarah is safe. Everything must be put right before Shelley can be at peace to welcome Eric home 😭
RIP to Brandon
Originally, Eric wasn't supposed to go any further than Skank, because nobody else were the direct killers. He wasn't supposed to go after anybody else or else he would have his powers taken by the skeleton cowboy (who was originally the entity who brings him back, like in the comics but they had to cut that character out because there wasn't enough footage available for the scenes with him to complete). They kind of kept to that rule but only by natural consequence.
Eric is a vengeful spirit. The movie takes place in Detroit Michigan on Devil's Night. It was a thing in the 80s-90s in Detroit that gangs and arsonists would set fires on abandoned buildings in the city. Thank God those days are over. Detroit is a up and coming city again.
Actually, Devils Night was home owners setting fires to their own property for insurance fraud during white flight out of the city of Detroit. 🤷🏾♂️
One of my favorite things about the film is that throughout the story Eric is discarding the things that tie him to his old life. He destroys his old photos, he destroys his guitar, he gives away the ring; and at the end he gives away the last thing tying him to the world: he gives up the pain. Only after giving up his pain is he able to rest.
Yes, the 2024 Crow movie is a remake, though fans of this movie have been vehemently opposed to remaking it because they feel it's unnecessary and disrespectful to Brandon Lee's memory.
Lee tragically died while filming The Crow after an on-set accident. His character Eric Draven is initially shot to death, but when they filmed the scene, a casing from one of the blanks (fake bullets) got stuck inside the prop gun. When the next blank was fired, the stuck blank casing shot out with the same speed of an actual bullet, hitting Lee and mortally wounding him. After he died, body doubles and groundbreaking computer effects were used to finish the movie. (One of those body doubles was stuntman Chad Stahelski, who is now best known for directing the John Wick movies.)
Compounding to the tragedy is the fact that Brandon Lee was the son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, whom also died suddenly at a young age.
Thus is incorrect, he was wounded filming the flashback where Funboy shoots him. The actor who played Funboy was so filled with guilt it was years before he could use a gun on screen again. All footage of that scene was turned over to the police for investigation and was subsequently destroyed in accordance to his family's wishes. The scene in the finished film was actually done by his double after reshoots

I’d call the new movie more a reboot than a remake. Beyond the names it doesn’t really follow the same story at all. Honestly. The film probably would have gotten a better reception if they didn’t name them Eric and Shelly.
The real tradegy was that Brandon died during the shooting of this movie, also Brandon Lee was Bruce Lee's son. Great reaction.
The hairstyle, the messy make up, the humor, the scene where the Crow walks into the room of the drug lords...Joker's magic trick scene... Heath Ledger's Joker and some Dark Knight scenes are clearly based on this...in my opinion.

Classic, reminds me so much of my childhood. Crazy thing is Brandon Lee the guy that plays the main character died because of a firearm malfunction with one of blanks on set.

Saw this movie like 1500 times in the theater. Couldn't get enough of it that summer.
Went to see this movie 4 times the opening weekend. Went with 3 groups of friends and my mom and cousin one day. I was so excited to see this and had recorded the trailer on VHS and kept watching it over and over quite a bit. Also, the soundtrack came out before the movie and it had Stone Temple Pilots. Soundtracks for movies back in the day were very important. Not like that anymore. But I wore that CD out. I think I had several of those CDs. As many as I had NIN's "The Downward Spiral" CDs. I used to be a Kleptomaniac back in the day and would steal as many copies of Downward as I could🤣
But, thank you Dasha for watching this. The most heartbreaking thing about this movie is the way Brandon Lee died before it was even finished. Watching him crawl out the grave and howling would make me every time and it still does. RIP Brandon💔
the crow is a macabre love story that cartoonist James O Barr created the day after his then-girlfriend was killed by a drunk driver's car. The author kept a close eye on the adaptation, in which actor Brandon Lee died in a shooting accident due to an improperly cleaned gun.
For me, this film is a masterpiece as dark as it is poetic.
They actually recently did a cinematic release of this original version for it's 30th anniversary. I went and saw it on the big screen.....again. it was phenomenal
The guy who played The Crow was Brandon Lee the son of legendary Bruce Lee. He died while filming this movie. By a piece of a bullet left in the chamber of a prop gun. The filming was almost complete. It's so sad he was in his 20's he's buried next to his dad in my home state Seattle WA. I love The Crow ❤.

I loved that part. Tbirds breakdown shows evil being confronted by a force of good where there is no room for redemption or forgiveness.
It's a great a scene and makes feel ok about Eric and Funboy's conversation in the comic.
Crazy how you watched this right after Enter the Dragon. Bruce Lee dies shortly after that film, and his son, died during this film when a prop gun malfunctioned and killed him. They had to use 3 different stunt doubles for his role in this film. Just sad.

Crows and ravens are sacred in norse and native American culture. We have a sun in the sky because raven stole it from sky father and gave it to us.
Crows are members of the Corvid family. A couple of their characteristics are they are drawn to shiny things, they can live for forty or fifty years and they are well known for holding a grudge against people who hurt them or bother them. Not only will they act against people who make them mad every time they see them but they can get others to share the grudge so that even when they are gone the harassment will continue. Likewise if they befriend you it’s for life. This gives a whole new meaning to using the crow for the emissary between the living and the dead.
That sounds like Prometheus stealing fire from Zues!! Funny how they are all the same stories; just variants.. 🤔

Usually when I have time to watch some RUclips, it's basically the same time when Dasha uploads so I prefer it, just makes sense to me for some reason. One of my favorite movies. Also, has the best movie soundtrack. I love every song and have it on regular rotation in my collection.
Brandon Lee's performance was epic. His life was cut off too soon, and this movie is a classic that cannot be duplicated.
Dasha, watch Dark City, an amazing underrated film from the same director, from around the same era, just before the Matrix came out. Not exactly the same as The Crow, just as immersive and evocative and unique as a film.
And I also want you to react to Gattaca someday, from around the same era, another unique film that inspires in different ways.

I won a free movie pass for this movie from a comic book store I used to hang out at when this movie first came out. I knew who Brandon Lee was and that he died during the filming of the movie. I vaguely knew about the comic it was based on. I went in with no expectations and walked out thinking this was one of the best god d@mn movies I've ever seen.

This movie and the graphic novel that inspired it were my teenage years. The 1990s were very much about the dark, pessimistic, gritty side of life. "The Crow" and "Se7en" were the quintessential films that encapsulated this sensibility. But I felt that the tragedy surrounding this film helped seal "The Crow" as one of those instances where lightening was caught in a bottle. Each attempt to revisit it as sequels over the years only seemed to prove how superficial and shallow Hollywood could be because they could not understand for the life of them why "The Crow" worked and how difficult it would be to even match its power. A good supernatural action movie, yes, but also an emotional one.
While the city was never named it was always implied that it was Detroit, Michigan. It was a city once famous for its automobile industry, being nicknamed "Motor City". (Even T-Bird mentions it at one point in the movie.) As time went on, however, this stopped being the case and the city became one of the poorest and most violent over the years. (Another great revenge movie about Detroit that is similar to "The Crow" was "Robocop".) It also reminded me of New York City in the 1970s when it struggled financially and it got so bad people burned down their own buildings for the insurance money. Eric and Shelley were decent people who found themselves in an indecent world that was already destructive because it made terrible people richer. I always interpreted "The Crow" as a higher power trying to bring balance back after so many horrible and violent things kept happening to good people.
A great movie, very well done! So sad Brandon Lee was killed during the filming of this movie.
It needs to be said that this performance was so at odds with Brandon Lee's previous work. Most of his films were martial arts-oriented, and his characters tended to have laid-back, comedic personas. What's often lost on first-time viewers is just how much of a switch this was for him, and just how fucking scary he could get.
I've said it before, and I will say it again: Had Brandon Lee not been killed while filming this, he could have been Neo. With respect to Keanu Reeves, I feel Lee would have leaned much more heavily into the philosophical aspects of The Matrix. Considering his family, he also would have had ample prior experience with the martial arts.

Great reaction, Dasha. You get it perfectly. A lot of reaction channels get too distracted by the 90s style and tone of the film (which I unabashedly love) and forget to pay attention to the story, cinematography, etc (which I also love). I particularly enjoyed your reaction to the fire crow shot after T-bird's death, because I think that's the coolest shot in the entire film (and IMO in most films of the era). Not enough people call it out.

One of my all-time favorite films, RIP brandon.
In case ya'll don't know. This movie was made in back in 1994. The lead actor of this film, Brandon Lee was not only the son of the late martial arts action star Bruce Lee, but this film was also Brandon Lee's final motion picture unitl his death. Brandon Lee was shot and killed in real life during the production of his film. He was killed in-real life in the fhashback scenes after Eric's girlfriend Shelly Webster (Sofia Shinas) was beaten and raped by T-Bird and his gang, it was the flashback scene where two of T-Bird's gang picked up Eric's body after being stabbed by Tin-Tin (Laurence Mason), T-Bird (David Patrick Kelly) and Funboy (Michael Masse) pointed thier guns at Eric and shoots Eric before throwing him out the window. Unaware for both the cast and the prodution crew, Brandon Lee died on the set. He died on March 31, 1994 at the age of 28.
No, Brandon Lee was shot and killed during the scene when he confronts Funboy and Darla in the hotel room during one of the takes. And because of how much the accident messed him up, Michael Masse took a year off from acting, had nightmares until he died on October 20, 2016, and he also never watched the movie.
Actually it was March 31st 1993 when Brandon Lee died and the movie came out a year later.
@@sithlordkaeyl21no original comment is correct. It was a flashback funboy scene. Darla wasn’t on set when it happened. And it was one of the last scenes being shot and it was obviously left out of the movie. He only had a couples of days of filming left. Hence why they were able to finish the movie with just using his double for a few scenes. He had already filmed most of it.
Brandon Lee and Heath Ledger both passed at 28, and there are a lot of similarities between their portrayal of The Crow and The Joker.
The story is set in a (slightly) exaggerated Detroit, Michigan from the late '80's. Ah, memories

Brandon Lee, who played Eric, was the son of martial arts star Bruce lee. Tragically, Brandon was killed while making this movie. A piece of a prop bullet broke off in the barrel of a gun, and when the gun was later loaded with blanks and fired at him, the force of the blank shot the piece of the prop bullet out of the barrel with almost as much force as a real bullet. It struck him in the chest, killing him.
At the time, there was debate over whether to even release the film, but it was decided that his death would have been for nothing if the film he was making was never released. They used CGI to put his face on a stand-in for a couple scenes, because the film wasn't quite finished yet.
The movie is dedicated to Brandon and his fiance Eliza. He was 29.
I looked and dressed like Brandon Lee when this came out. I remember watching this in theatres and people would stare at me. It's in my top 10.
no one really suggest people to react to the movies he did before the crow like shodown in Little Tokyo or Rapid Fire to see the contratst between how he acted in this movie.

Your lead actor Brandon Lee died during the filming of this movie . I saw the movie Premiere of this in Boston . Won tickets from WBCN a local rock radio station . The movie he did before this was RAPID FIRE. These two movies showed he was about to become a Super Star ! It has been over 30 years. I still miss what could of been .
I know this is a dark, depressing movie, but I've got so many pleasant memories associated with it -- I saw it with someone who afterwards became my best friend. We both loved the movie, too, btw. Though I would have loved it even without all that, I think RIP Brandon Lee.
I remember seeing this for the first time when I was 12 back in 94. My mom rented it for me because she knew how obsessed with Bruce Lee and Brandon Lee I was. Completely shaped who I was. I just watched the 30th year anniversary in the theaters. The only reason this movie ever got made was because of Brandon Lee’s passion behind it being made. The remake should not be happening. All we wanted was a new story, not an upd ated version for a m0dErN aUdiEnCe🥴 Only good thing about the second film was it helped give us The Crow Sting back in WCW 96-97….and Deftones being in it for a a few scenes 🤷🏻♂️

The movie was based on a comic book that was written so the author could cope with his depression he had after the death of his girlfriend. This added movie added a more emotional touch.

James O'Barr. The Crow (graphic novel) was his life work, his magnum opus. It's dark. Clive Barker said it was dark, and if Clive Barker says it's dark ... it's *dark* . (FWIW, Barker's exacts words were, "O'Barr's intensity frightens me.")
James O’Barr the man who wrote “The Crow” doesn’t know his own birthday because his mom was drunk and didn’t know what happened. His fiancé was killed by a drunk driver while coming to pick him up from work. He joined the United States Marine Corps; where they made him draw hand books of murders. James planned to kill the drunk driver when he got back home only to find out he was already dead. James wrote this book out of pure pain and suffering. When Brandon Lee could quote the book, James approved the movie, only for his new best friend to die. James said it was his fault until he got to Brandon’s tombstone. He forgave himself and went on to have a wife and kids. This movie is fucking awesome.
This is actually my favorite movie. I have no intention on watching the reboot.

This is Brandon’s best performance as an actor in my opinion. But there is another movie that I believe is worth watching, Rapid Fire.

Speaking of Joker, Dasha, many scenes in The Dark Knight were taken directly from The Crow. The more obvious ones being when Joker crashes the mob meeting and is left dangling upside down

Brandon Lee’s stunt double in this movie was Chad Stahelski, who also was Keanu Reeves’ stunt double in ‘The Matrix’, and also directed all of the John Wick movies.
Thank you for watching one of my favorite movies Dasha. The remake is an insult to the memory of Brandon Lee and should not have been made. This movie was perfect as is and didn't need a remake.
RIP Brandon Lee , he sadly died while filming one of the scenes for this movie by getting shot by one of the actors in a freak accident.

I saw this when I was really young. I rented it thinking it was a “horror” movie. 😂😮 I had never seen anything like it.
It's still one of my favorite movies of all time. The atmosphere in it can't be replied by the new crow film I suggest.

He put the make up on. Cause Eric couldn't handle what happened. But the paint gave him the ability to deal
Enjoyed this so much! I first watched the movie shortly after it's release. I feel so disappointed that I missed out on seeing this in theaters, though! I may've been a youngster at the time - but I'd of enjoyed it in the theaters quite a bit!
Very happy that you chose to watch this before seeing the new/upcoming version. I don't have high hopes for it.
So the new one is supposed to be a reboot of this movie and it completely craps on this. Especially when there's really no need for it call ma the crow is based on a comic book series and there's different comic books with different people who are The Crow. There's no need for a remake but yet they think that they're going to be doing this but completely missed the point of what the comics and the movies were about.

I think you should watch the second movie, "Crow: City of Angels." I know alot of people are saying all the sequels suck but that's not true because all the sequels suck EXCEPT for the second one.
