    😄👍 In case you didn't catch it, at 8:02 when the kid says "He Killed Mozart!" it's because that's F Murray Abraham who played Salieri in "Amadeus." At 19:01, that's actor Jim Belushi who had previously costarred with Schwarzenegger in "Red Heat" (1988), a movie you HAVE to see. Arnold plays a Russian in it (not kidding)! 😉

    I love the scene where Brigitte Wilson is kicking the shit out of her 'captor' and still screaming, pretending all the violence is happening to her. Or Arnold casually wiping tar off like it's mustard. There's lots of good jokes in here about the real world too - 'there are no normal women here because this is a movie!' 'no, this is California' is a fun one.

  • @lazyperfectionist1

    If you just look at the traits of the _movie,_ you would be justified in believing this movie would've been number 1 at the box office, the week it premiered. The main reason it wasn't was that it has largely the same audience as the movie _Jurassic Park_ which premiered two days earlier, and _that_ is a movie you don't want to go toe to toe with if you can avoid it.

    I love the bit where Arnie (as Jack Slater) messes up 'Schwarzenegger', calling himself 'Braunschweiger' 😂. Early in his career, producers wanted him to use a screen name, because 'no one could pronounce Schwarzenegger'. He was actually billed Arnold Strong in one movie (Hercules in New York, IIRC). He never allowed that again, and became the biggest name (literally and figuratively) in Hollywood!

    The kid shushes his mom and Dasha is blown away by it, showing that in her world kids don't shush their parents, which is also what made the scene funny. Love it. 😂
    This is how you find good or bad reactors, IMO. It's the little things like this where you get an idea of how the reactor views the world and find out if you agree with their view - which can lead to you laughing along with them or not connecting at all with their reaction. It's also why genuine reactions are far superior to phony reactions. 👊

    • @stang5755
      @stang5755 20 дней назад +1

      Second? Manhunter was the first film adaptation of Harris' Lecter novels - Or I should say 'novel' as there was only Red Dragon; the next novel Silence of the Lambs wasn't even written yet. But yes, Tom Noonan who plays The Ripper here did indeed play Dolarhyde/The Tooth Fairy in Manhunter. Also was Cain in RoboCop 2.
      As mentioned the 'Chinese' guy was Toru Tanaka, who is actually Japanese. Was previously in another Arnold film, The Running Man, as Professor Sub-Zero, one of the 'stalkers'..
      The 'English bad guy' - I assume you mean Benedict - Was played by Charles Dance, who just before played Clemens in Alien3, and is now best known as Tywin Lannister from HBO's Game of Thrones.

    • @philmullineaux5405
      @philmullineaux5405 19 дней назад

      @@stang5755 my contention has always been, there's no way Silence got done, or the book, without someone involved in that process, and they didn't first see, Dressed to Kill....as u will see many themes from it, repeated here. There's even a blast near the end of Dressed, wherein one doctor makes a claim knowing who the bad guy is, a brilliant psychiatrist, and I think may have even said, Lector!

    • @stang5755
      @stang5755 19 дней назад +1

      @@philmullineaux5405 A piece of media 'repeating themes' from another does not make it a direct, related, canonically contiguous link - Not to speak of the fact there's a lot of other themes and elements that don't correlate. Nor does a mention of a name you 'think' you heard, even one that happens to be similar - Even if so it *isn't* the same character nor the same canonical universe. You may have that 'contention' all you want, doesn't make it fact.
      Regardless, what *is* fact is that 'Hannibal Lecter' is a creation of Thomas Harris and his related novels. And again, the *first* film adaptation of any of them - Manhunter - was what Tom Noonan was in. This isn't supposition. Unlike practically all of what you're saying.

    Priviet Dasha, this movie makes me laugh, the action sequences is what glued my eyes to it. Hated by critics, it's a gem and Danny (from the film My Girl 2) reminds me so much of myself as a teen in the 90's, turned 13 that year this came out. Danny DeVito who voiced Whiskas, was a nice touch since he and Arnold were in the film Twins together five years earlier. The Mom aka Mercedes Ruehl played Tom Hank's Mom in the film Big and was in an episode of Law & Order. The cameos were great. Nice reaction. Jim Belushi's cameo was cool, he and Arnold did Red Heat the same year that Twins was done and they came back together three years later to do Jingle All The Way. Tina Turner was the best cameo. Ian McKellen (Gandalf, Magneto) as the Grim Reaper was the best role. I suggest you watch Marvel's Ghost Rider (2007) with Nicolas Cage.

    Last Action Hero failed badly at the box office. A huge part of the problem it faced was it was just plain mismarketed. The film is a parody and satire of the action movies of the late-80s and early-90s. In particular parodying the films Arnold Schwarzenegger himself used to make. Ah-nold wasn't even intended to be in the film, but he like the concept so much he not only got the role as Slater, but was even an executive producer. Unfortunately, however, the studio marketed it as if it was a straight example of the genre, so audiences expecting the typical Ah-nold action film were generally confused by the more over-the-top comedy. Which is a shame, because the film is incredibly self-aware, Ah-nold is CLEARLY having a lot of fun with it, and it quite brilliantly skewers the tropes while taking advantage of them itself.
    To be honest, it's probably a movie that came out about 10 years too soon.
    I want to see that version of Hamlet, too.
    Charles Dance was so brilliant as Benedict in this.
    SO many movie references in the police station. They walk past Catherine Tramell from Basic Instinct (played once again by Sharon Stone) on their way in, the T-1000 (reprised by Robert Patrick) is one of the uniform cops, Humphrey Bogart is the Black And White... Whiskers is voiced by Danny DeVito.
    I'm surprised you didn't comment on F. Murray Abraham as Practice since you watched Amadeus last year (unless it was just edited out of the RUclips version).
    Ah-nold and Stallone are good friends in real life, and putting him on the Terminator 2 poster was an intentional poke at Stallone.
    The checkout girl at the video store is model/actress Angie Everhart, probably best known for playing the villain Lilith in Tales from the Crypt: Bordello of Blood. And Danny's right, she's WAY too hot for that store...
    Whitney is played by Bridgette Wilson, probably best known for playing Sonya Blade in the first live-action Mortal Kombat movie.
    Haha, the pull my finger joke.
    Ah-Nold was one of the first people to jump in on the Humvee craze. In fact he's probably the one that really helped to popularize them once they started becoming available to the general public.
    Leaving an empty chamber is what's called a "cowboy load." Early revolvers often didn't have reliable safeties, so to prevent accidental discharges, one chamber was left empty and that's where the hammer was rested when the gun was in the holster. This is less common today because of hammer locks and transfer bars greatly reducing the risk of accidentally firing the weapon.
    Death comes from the Ingmar Bergman classic The Seventh Seal, which is where the idea of playing games against Death for your soul became popularized in modern culture, and this depiction was parodied by Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. In Last Action Hero, Death was played by Sir Ian McKellan.

      "Charles Dance was so brilliant as Benedict in this."
      Was he? Or is Benedict brilliant at playing Charles Dance?
      "Which is a shame, because the film is incredibly self-aware..."
      The film is, among other things, a commentary on Divine Purpose. As the star of an action movie franchise Jack Slater's life has Divine Purpose. The major events in his life serve as plot points in his movies. His son was killed in order to up the stakes of his final confrontation with the villain in Jack Slater 3. HIs divorce is played for laughs (for the audience...and "the guys in the squad room", anyway) in the "on camera/in movie" scenes, i.e. the scenes that would have been part of Jack Slater 4. Meanwhile, "off camera", Slater reveals that stuff like the tape recorder joke is all a ploy, literally a joke for the sake of the audience and that his wife is happily remarried. While Slater lives in a virtually empty crappy apartment off the freeway, an apartment lacking furniture, decorations, any sense that a person actually lives there. Because, in a very real sense, Slater is only really alive during one of his movies.
      So when Slater, in the Real World, finally accepts that his entire life is not his own, that everything that happens to him is to make an entertaining movie for people in another reality, he's not exactly happy about that. Finding out that your life has a Divine Purpose means that every crappy thing that has ever happened to you was done TO you *on purpose* kinda sucks. And that your every success was preordained, not due to any effort on your part.
