It was so funny when the tank shoots the evolution tree symbolizing how unnatural artificial intelligence is. So many great scenes
I don't think that's the symbolism since the tank has a pilot. It might possibly be intended to symbolize what killing is, everyone you gun down has a family tree reaching back through history.

The Puppet Master is a unique type of being called an "Infomorph", it's a being of pure information, it seems to have essentially formed itself by bits and fragments of "personal information" and things like "memories" and "knowledge" floating around on the information. The reason it "chose" 'The Major' is because the major is probably the most advanced human-turned-cyborg around. The Major may not have even originally been a woman as the anime series plays around with.
Essentially the puppet master showed up and said "Hey, we would have beautiful children" and the major went "Huh, y'know what, yes, we would. Lets have a kid" and then that kid was both the puppet master, the major, and its own being.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is a pretty good anime adaptation that focuses on Sector 9 as a sort of "police" agency.

The Sequel you want to watch is Ghost in the Shell: Innocence.
The reason for Motoko's questioning of her conciseness and being is because of her youth. Both her parents were diplomats and there car was hit with a bombing that killed both her parents and left Motoko mortally wounded, she was a child. The only way they could save her life was to cyberize her. She is one of the youngest people to ever be cyberized and was placed in an orphanarium afterwards, this gave her an advantage. Unlike others who grow up in there human body and then get cyberized essentially growing up twice (basically traction) she grew up in her cyborg body making her extremely well adjusted to interfacing with technology. This also left her questioning her identity, her being, as she has very little memory before she was cyberized. The deep sea diving she does is her trying to remember something.

I would argue it's not about the nature of the soul, but what makes you, you. It's the ship of Theseus. If you replace all the parts, even if you look exactly the same, are you still you? Further, and yes, this deals with the soul, or at least consciousness, if you replace all of your parts, how do you KNOW you're still you? This I'd the existential question the major ponders throughout the movie and series. How does she know her personality, memories, everything about her, are her? I would say the series deals more with the soul, especially with the Tachikoma's.
Without Ghost In The Shell, there would not have been The Matrix….it’s that influential.
Not only is the animation stunning, but Kenji Kawai’s soundtrack is just perfect. Fun Fact: the song that features on the opening credits is actually a Bulgarian wedding song, with the lyrics translated into Japanese.
I highly recommend watching the series; Stand Alone Complex & also the sequel to this film, Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence, which continues the Majors story. Oh & btw, Innocence features an animated sequence that took a year…..yes a whole year to animate…..& trust me, when you see it, it will blow you away!!!
The live action film was met with mixed reviews; there was accusations of white washing, due to Scarlet Johansson being cast as the Major. However, as stated in multiple interviews Japan doesn’t have many….if any, mainstream female action stars.
The film does a great job at recreating the scenes from the original anime & is visually stunning. It also introduces the Major’s backstory which is covered in the SAC series. Personally, I’ll always watch the anime over the live action film.
Definitely second the opinion to review the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex animes. Peak cyberpunk anime.
This is definitely cyberpunk. A major theme in cyberpunk is "how far do you go cyber before you're not human anymore?" The Major's backstory is basically just a brain of a child transplanted into one of the first artificial bodies. She doesn't even remember having a flesh and blood body, so now she sometimes questions her on existence. Most of Section 9 are heavily enhanced (cyborged) agents. The world of Ghost in the Shell is one where the world is still recovering from WWIII. The United States is now the American Empire. Cybernetic augmentations are very common. Ghost refers to your consciousness in your body (the shell). The manga occurs in 2029 or so. The series are sort of an alternate timeline with the same characters set in the 2040s. All are worth checking out. But a little warning, there are some explicit (by Western standards) scenes in the manga. Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig are very good as are the animated movies. Ghost in the Shell: Innocence can be a little confusing. Oh... just start watching more...
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex/2nd GIG are amazing... both series came out in the early 2000s, but my god the stories both arcs told... :O Ghost in the Shell: ARISE is an OVA that takes a more in-depth look at how Motoko came to be in Public Security 9, and concludes with Ghost In The Shell: ARISE The New Movie. Ghost in the Shell: 2049... still on the fence on that one :P
Note: this is but a fraction of the philosophical questions this movie asks the viewer.
The reason why the major is so chill about her unclothed body is because its not a "body" at all, its just a shell, something that was created and not born. Because she is mainly a machine (apart from her brain which is organic) she does not fully see herself as a human, even though she wishes to believe she is, and is thus indifferent to things that others would be off-put by. This is further evident by her mannerisms throughout the story; she is physically female but has a personality that shifts between masculine, feminine, both, and neither. Further making you question who or what she is and should be. Additionally, she never blinks, further adding to the unnerving and sad question of weather she is a soulless machine or a living person.
another point is that having a non-organic body, you are not unique anymore, you are just a mass product, the majors is highly specialized ofc, but the look of her body seems to be available on the mass market, evident by her seeing "herself", just anohter person having the same "shell" in the montage section of the city in the movie. In the series, this thought gets expanded upon in a sense that some people still crave uniqueness and individuality also in their cyberbodies and for example have special face sculptors (i.e. Kuze or I believe also the facemaker dude in the episode with paz) for example, to set themselves apart from other borg bodies. Meaning, the major struggles with her humanity when she sees she is replacable and just one in a million. Only through the interaction with others who treat her v ery human despite her machine body, that is totally void of any personality, she still feels she is human, Batou obviously being her closest associate. But in terms of her being cool with being naked, you hit the nail on the head: in a future where you can change bodies like clothes, nudity is not special anymore, a fine body that is a manufactured product and not genetic bliss or someone working hard on what nature gave them, beauty standards or taboo topics and shame around nudity normalize themselves quickly. Everybody can now be beautiful in a sense, so it has become a new norm in a sense (well, except for the poor shmucks obviously who can not afford it, technology achievement is first for the rich, but as Pondsmith said, Cypberunk is also how even the most advanced tech eventually makes it to the streets and might even find new purpose there... high tech, low life). Even with all their benefits and technical goodies, also major and batou are sort of slaves: they depend with their maintenance-rich bodies on the care of their organisation and basically are slaving away as employees, even when they are still better off compared to the lower classes. Still, freedom looks different to me.

Um, yes? For actual story reasons too.
I mean, I think you have a point about the American mindset in general, but I feel like the violence supports the narrative of Ghost in the Shell, while the major's body suit, in particular, is gratuitous and runs counter to it. And don't kid yourself into thinking the nudity and near nudity here isn't intended to be titillating. It's an awfully big coincidence it's always the female form that's being (quite literally) objectified. And look, I like being titillated as much as the next guy, and this isn't coming from a place of prudishness, but the major's getup hurts my sense of immersion a little bit.

Cyborg is actually short form for "Cybernetic Organism," which is either a sentient computer using organic components, or a sentient organism augmented by cybernetics (which are called bionics). So, the Terminator is a cyborg as it is a computer that can learn, adapt, and evolve covered in flesh to be able to infiltrate human resistance groups. In the same vein, the Borg from Star Trek are assimilated, sentient organisms heavily augmented with cybernetics, and the name Borg literally comes from taking the "cy" part off. A fully sentient computer using a cybernetic shell is called either an android or an automaton, and a "dumb" computer using a cybernetic shell is known by a wide variety of names, but the most common is "a synthetic."
Anybody with cybernetic implants can be considered a cyborg. The degree matters. Kusanagi is an almost full cyborg since her youth except her brain. She was sillier in the manga, but i like her here more.
I like both versions equally, if I were in their place I'd rather be manga-Major, but Movie-Major is awesome too

The more times you rewatch it the more you're convinced it is one of the greatest films ever made. Blade runner, GITS and 2001 a space odyssey are the holy trinity of science fiction.
Wow. You followed the plot way better than most people (myself included) on the first watch-through. I was so confused by the plot the first time lol.
8:20 This is that 80s futuristic vibe aestetics. Blade runner is another great example. It also has to do with type of instruments/sounds used in soundtrack. Usually a lot of sytezators.
You should really watch the sequel too, Innocence. It follows directly in the footsteps of this one and really fleshes out the metaphysics, and the animation is superb. One of my favorite films of all time, definitely my favorite animated film.

Major is a human who had her brain downloaded into a cyborg body, and the puppet master is just a AI program on the internet who became sentient and started hacking into other beings.
In the end the major and the AI fuse...a fusion of man and machine. The question posed in the story is where does humanity begin and what makes a human and is it any different from a true artificial intelligence. Hopefully you can see where the matrix got their inspiration from

Ghost in the Shell is still a stunning movie. You need your wits about you though to grasp all that's going and makes GitS so special. And also watch it more than once XD
There is a second movie called Innocence which is not as ground-breaking, but imo not as bad as many people say. It's gorgeous as well.
Interesting fact: The Matrix movie was heavily inspired by Ghost in the Shell.
I can thoroughly recommend the series Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex if you want to dive deeper into the GitS universe . The series has the same premise and characters as the movie, but with a different vibe, as well as elaborating on many aspects. Probably a bit easier to understand because of that, but still not something you can hope to grasp completely by watching with only half your brain. Also, the music...
The follow-on anime movie is loosely connected, with Batou dealing with different cases. The major puts in an awesome appearance helping him out, but is really only a minor character.
The 2017 movie takes a completely different look at where the major's brain comes from.
It really was a blurred question of whether the Puppet Master was an AI. It came about because of technology, but not deliberately; and it sort of naturally happened to come into being.
In both movies, they faked a lot of people out as to thinking that she was naked all the time. She wore a skin-tight bodysuit for invisibility.
I think calling her evil might be a bit too strong. Selfish? Maybe. But understandably so. It's not like most people prioritize others over themselves. You can't really function in society if you're not looking out for yourself. It just so happens that the scope of this is much greater than what we normally deal with in our own lives, and I think we expect characters to behave like movie heroes in circumstances like this, rather than real, nuanced people.
Without Ghost in the shell, Bladerunner and The matrix other stuff wouldn't not exist, it's the inspiration
Blade Runner came out years before GitS and took a lot of inspiration from William Gibson's books, film noir and similar sources (e.g. Judge Dredd possibly).
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps The blade runner story was published in 1968, so was to early for Gibson and 2000ad (Gibson first published in 1977, and Dredd first came out in 77.)
But Gibson and judge dredd probably did influence the first movie and adaptation as the timing lines up well.
The story author says its biggest inspiration was film noir and the 1958 story More than human.
@@zhaoliang4217 Oh, I was referring to the movie Blade Runner, not the book Do Android Dream Of Electric Sheep? (1986) by Philip K. Dick or The Blade Runner (1974) by Alan E. Nourse (from where they got the title).
It is one of the most achieved work by Mamoru Oshii in the sense of political techno thriller and cyberpunk. After that GTIS: Innocence or GITS2 had its own arc story but is a bit challenging to watch at some points. GTIS SAC: The Laughing Man and GTIS SAC 2nd GIG: Individual Eleven did the same and are not relate to the first movie but are quite interesting.
Even if prior to GITS he already planted seeds into his other movies as Patlabor: The movie and Patlabor 2..

It's Machine Code Fact: In the scene where Section 6 retrieves Project 2501, the programming language on Dr. Willis' terminal screen is actual C code.
Music Enthusiast Fact: The lyrics to the title song "Making Of A Cyborg" were written in ancient Japanese. A clue about the rnding dith the merging of the consciousness of both the Major and the Puppet Master is in the opening titles music of the movie. The lyrics are from a traditional japanese wedding vows. While in the opening credits it seems to refer to the building of a hybrid human-machine entity, it actually foreshadows the ending of the film. Very clever piece of filmmaking.
"When I have a paper due ..." ah yes, that brings back memories of when I had a 25 page paper due for my final project (80% of your grade) on Monday and started it Saturday night; I stayed awake and researched, wrote, proofread, edited and finished it in that time. I didn't sleep at all until I got home on Monday.
The whole point about nakedness was that the major is a 'full body' cyborg and she doesn't even see her body as being hers. Its a statement on the mentality of humans who live basically as software. Everything in the film is for a reason and while i guess its a little exploitative, its actually the way it is for a reason.

The first animated serie (Stand Alone Complex, 2004) is fun to watch because of the Tachikomas, but strange and complex to understand... Ok for 14+

"Ghost in the Shell" is one of my favorite anime, I'd encourage you to watch the "Stand Alone Complex" animated series, as well as the more modern animated shows.
The nudity, which is only really in the intro "making of a cyborg" part and the Puppet Master's stolen body, is non-sexualized. They're showing the cyborg body (of the same kind that Motoko has) being created. I think they did have to "do it", because they're basically showing that humanity can "give birth" to fully grown humans. We don't come out of the womb with clothes, lol. Essentially, her body is like a doll if you think about it... is it the same as looking at a human's flesh? Man, watching this movie always makes me ask so many questions, lol.
I think deceptively, this movie's story basically boils down to "a love story between a self-aware AI and a human cyborg who are both looking for more meaning in their lives and that ends up in their marriage, their death, and their child", lol.
The direct sequel "Innocence" is awesome too. If you feel this film is incomplete by the end, you won't after that.
I saw this when it first came out, I was hooked. I was a kid at the time and I got hooked…and at least a little freaked out (self questioning as an 12yr old can lead to odd places).
I wasn’t sure if you’ve done them elsewhere but can highly recommend Your Name, Weathering With You, A Silent Voice.
As an outlier series-wise.:.watch Your Lie In April. The artwork is amazing, the story is so well done.

Technical details about "cyborg" things :
Cyborgs are humans with a (big) part of their body changed to cybernetic/artificial/mechanics parts. A big part... not only a leg or the heart... But it is difficult to say where is the limit.
Cyborgs are not robots. Robots are full artificial things. Is a robot have a human shape, it's an androïd (or "gynoïd" if female human shape).
Cyborgs are humans. Robots are objects.
But in "Ghost in the Shell", even the brain of Motoko is artificial... just her "ghost" is still "human". That's why she question herself about her human being... and doubt about it. It is the "Ship of Theseus paradox" applicated on human being : are you still human if we replace all parts of your body by artificial things?
This movie is amazing, it has to be the most influential anime movie ever. I watched it like 10 times and Akira too.
Please dear God please watch the sequel (Ghost in the shell: Innocence) there are literally no reactions for it and it's one of my favourite movies period
If one phrase gives the general atmosphere of a cyberpunk world, it is: "High tech, low life"
Yeah, Ghost in the Shell is a lot about the question: what makes us human? What is consciousness or the soul? Questions we are now beginning to have to deal with as well. They are not as acute yet as they are in the movies, but they will become very important in the next few years.
Also: The nudity is symbolic. It's not fan service. She was naked during the title sequence because it symbolized her birth, for example.
My friends and i debated making a Abridged version of the SAC version and call it "Ghost in the Toast"

While there is nudity in Ghost in the Shell it's never what I would call sexualized rather it's starkly depicted it's not meant for titulation further accentuated by the Major's stoic attitude throughout the film never really regarding any notable embarassment over something like changing clothes or being naked when using therm-optic camoflauge
Nudity does not always equal fanservice at least in my experience though I can understand the uncomfortableness with it
Absolutely read the 1991 graphic novel compilation of the 1989 manga series. And then it’s sequels, mainly Human-Error Processing and Man-Machine Interface. Then play the Play Station 1 game. Than watch the Ghost In The Shell: Innocence movie. That watch Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex seasons 1 & 2. Than play the GITS: SAC game. Than watch the GITS: Arise animes. Than watch the live action movie so you can laugh at how it’s not a terrible movie, it’s ok, just not Ghost In The Shell as we know it. Then watch Ghost In The Shell: Solid State Society and GITS: The New Movie followed by the GITS:2045 series. There are a few other GITS properties but basically you’ll be pining for fresh Ghost In The Shell stuff to come out.

The manga unite a bunch of little stories with Section 9 and the Mojor's Team against diverse threats with cyborgs implicated (Section 9 speciality)... even this movie is an adaptation of two separated stories in the manga. Nice and weird design, very cool colors for some pages, but very hard to understand political and technical parts! Not fit for young public...
Re-upload OK, but... can you consider the possibility of making a reaction to its sequel: "Innocence: Ghost in the Shell 2" (2004) ?!

Jin Roh can be slow at times, but it's such a magnificent deconstruction of the concepts of the fragility of authority and the futility of rebellion, and the human and emotional cost of their struggle. I love this movie so much.
The original manga started coming out in 1989. The series is hugely inspired by Blade Runner. So the observed future 80s vibe the film has is partially correct.
The artist and writer, Masamune Shirow, basically quit drawing manga in favor of making extremely garish pornography. I think that's great.
the original gits manga also had some lewd side panels thrown in between and masamune is a little perv I guess, but that was never the main topic. I also find the manga had a lot more humor and the SAC series is much closer to the manga in tone than the movie, which is a lot more brainy and contemplative and philosophical. Not that the original manga was totally void of philosophic questions, but they certainly were not the focus, the stories around sec 9 and also the deep dive into technology were much more important to shirow, that much is apparent.
Great movie! I said this in the last video, but try and watch the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex series.
She's not naked. She's not being created, she's being refitted
Futuristic 80s is better described as Cyberpunk. That genre of Sci-Fi came out in the 80s. There are plenty of Cyberpunk novels being written. William Gibson is one such author. His novel, "Neuromancer" is worth a read. 1st book in a trilogy. As for politics, sadly many people avoid it. In the end, any legislation or law that is passed effects everyone. Since the change is not immediate, many don;t notice until it's too late. The reason many bad laws get passed is that many people think,"well it doesn't effect me".... until it does. Law is nothing more the legislated mortality. So when laws are suggested, it's good to ask 'whose morality' is the law being based on. The movie scratches the surface of this. It also is about self reflection, what makes one human. Is a human reduced to only flesh and bone or is it the vessel for the immaterial soul. All of mankind reaches for the eternal, regardless of culture. Atheists are the abnormal minority. Yet they reach for the benefits of the eternal while denying it. I find that to be fantastic. If people believed that they are just material, that there is nothing beyond this life, it wouldn't matter what you do or if it was right or wrong. After all, when you're gone...it would be no different than not having existed at all. So if there is no point then life is meaningless. However if you have a soul, a ghost, then this speaks to the eternal. Then everyone is forever. This brings big implications, which many take for granted. The Major doesn't. She starts asking these things to understand what it means to be human.
It's all about the concept of identity and meaning of life and what defines life. The puppet master being and artificial life form needed something only biological life can do for its conclusion and that is evolution through reproduction. Kusanagi was his "mating partner" of choice because she had almost completely transcended from organic lifeform into an artificial one. She was the most high tech cyborg out there, making her max compatible. Puppet Master needed her biological essence, the ghost, wich he couldn't replicate himself, to step up his evolution and Kusanagi, doubting her ghost being real, saw it as an opportunity to make a free decision to reproduce. Something she wasn't able to do anymore, making her in the end more human again as she was before.
Very deep and I needed alot of rewatching to get it somewhat. The Kusanagi in the end can be considered the child of her and Puppet Master.
The 3 movies "stand alone complexe" are even more cool in my opinion (in love of individual eleven)

Appleseed & Ghost in the shell are done by same creator I think? But Cyberpunk flourished in the 80s-90s a lot by studios such as these. And.. I love animations with this much detail and after thought in a movie.

the movie was nice but i like the stand alone complex more for the small bot tanks who are side kick or team mates..
The manga is fantastic. This adaptation focuses in on the existential elements from the manga, but the manga is more police procedural/spy thriller in it’s narrative. The series, GitS Stand Alone Complex, is the best adaptation in my opinion. The Arise OVA and it’s sequels/spinoffs is the worst as it blatantly tries to put the woman back in a woman’s place. The American live action film did the homework, pulling elements from every adaptation out there and some really deep cuts from the manga, and it is visually stunning, but it cobbles together iconic scenes from multiple separate storylines and shoves the Robocop storyline on top of it. This leaves it with the now cliche message that a strong woman gains that strength by surviving and overcoming victimization. The Major is never portrayed as a victim in the manga, just a strong, independent woman with competent leadership skills and a mysterious background. Masamune Shirow’s other manga and the adaptations of them are also worth checking out. I particularly like Appleseed and Dominion: Tank Police.
This movie gives a lot to think of, especially now our technologies get closer. Like where is the point of "augmentation" where we'll still human, the fact that the more implants you have the more your survival is tied to the "good-will" of parts/maintenance companies, brain hacking, AI status, etc.
The manga also talk about human trafficking (especially children) whose ghosts are transferred into $€X robots for rich clients. There are also cute comic-relief robots.

This movie does not have an 80s vibe, it has an 1990's vibe, thank you very much. Attributing the 80s to great stuff made in the 1990s earns you a special place in hell.

The Stand Alone Complex series is a lot less heavy than the movie in terms of themes and tone, Tachikomas will bring a smile to anyone's face. Plays out kind like a sci-fi police procedural where the teamwork and comradery takes the main focus in storytelling. Dwells less on the run down cyberpunk esthetics and has a bit more levity though there is plenty of corporate corruption, political skullduggery and action in the same world following a slightly different timeline.

In my opinion Major die, and pupet master trick everyone, and he was pretending to be her. 🙂 He may be a spay/agend/IA from other country.

Thanks for watching this movie. Since you highly appreciated it I can't help but highly suggesting you to watch the two seasons of the animated series Ghost In The Shell - Stand Alone Complex.
About the naked female characters : yes, the original author, Masamune Shirow, is kind of a pervert ^^' and doesn't hesitate to take advantage of his stories to show boobs and asses here and there. Yet despite openly presenting the major as bisexual, he spares us sexual action. All the movies or series (didn't play the games so I can't say for them) inspired by his world kept a bit of this specific feature.
The first animated movie is great but we can clearly see a strong Mamoru Oshii's vibe in it. The manga is lighter with some humor in it, less contemplation parts, and focuses more on the whole section 9 unit (some members aren't even mentionned in the movie). That's why I overall prefer the animated series, as the mood and stories are far closer to the manga. GITS - SAC is a great balance of investigation, action, political nests of vipers, philosophical questioning and social thoughts, all in the most complex and realistic world I have seen in such a limited number of episodes.
So, all these details only for you to watch the series.

The Scarlett Johanson movie is so different that calling it Ghost In The Shell is not really proper...

I think you'll enjoy Vampire Hunter D(Bloodlust).
It is true, the story feels incomplete but it is not since the author did not want to tell the story of Makoto "Major" but to deal with the existential issues of the soul and a criticism of society, our protagonist was only the instrument to tell this. Now, this story has many Prequels and also Continuations, but we understand that the creator of the Manga made two Continuations without "Major" Makoto: GiS 1.5 and GiS 2, the first one is that it happened a year after this movie (or its manga) and It deals with section 9 and the second one is an indirect continuation taking a longer span (5 years I think) and we have another totally different protagonist from another organization of course in the same world and we will also have references and cameos of characters from GiS 1, but As the author said, what he wants to tell are themes, not counting characters, so the change of protagonist can be annoying. Now we also have the continuation of the film by the director called GiS2 (nothing to do with the GiS2 manga) taking the concept of Manga GiS1.5 but with a totally new story that does not appear in this manga, but having the main characters of this one. . But for the anime industry they saw more commercial potential for "Major" Makoto, so we have amazing Prequels before the movie, which in chronological order would be GiS Rise (OVAS + 2 extra TV episodes) complemented by a movie; GiS: Stand alone complex 1 and 2 will follow, followed by another film as well. Now about the movie Luce action is bad since they turned it into a romantic story, something that this work is not suitable for.
If u like it, u should watch Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence - its sequel of that one. Directed by Mamoru Oshii, same man who was make this movie from 1995, Tenshi no Tamago from 1985 or scripted by him Jin-Roh 1999 [all worth to watch].

Dont be prudidh about onscreen nudity, you are an adult, you are supposed to be mature enough to deal with it, its one of the facts of life we live with. Treating ALL screen nudity as exploitive or unnecessary is actually quite an immature attitude.

I mean, she's not technically naked there, but wearing skin-tight camouflage, but it's pretty close, and it's not like there isn't other nudity in the film. I actually think this is the thing that seems most gratuitous though, and I feel like the sexualizaton of the major runs counter to the narrative thrust of the film. I've seen people argue that she just sees her body as a piece of technology and so doesn't get embarrassed about it or anything, but she sure is incredibly provocative for it being unintentional. I think it's pretty nakedly fan service (no pun intended), and it's not coincidental that it's female (or female-shaped technology) nudity (or near nudity) that's always on display. And I honestly don't mind that kind of thing much of the time (and, you know, even enjoy it), but it doesn't sit quite right with me here, at least as far as the major's camouflage goes. But if Ghost in the Shell were less of a cerebral work of art, I probably wouldn't give it a second thought. Regardless, it's a minor quibble that does little to mar such great anime.
As far as the abrupt ending of the film goes, I remember feeling pretty unsatisfied with it the first time I watched it. I feel like they probably didn't execute things in such a way to properly prepare us for it to end (and I'm talking about intangible elements, like pacing, music, "cinematography", and so forth as much as the actual script). For an example of a film that screwed things up in the exact opposite direction, The Return of the King makes you feel like it's going to end several times before it actually does, leaving you feeling exhausted and so done-with-it by the time it actually finishes (or at least that was my experience). With that said, I actually enjoyed Ghost in the Shell more on rewatch and had no issue with the open-ended conclusion of the it, once I was prepared for it. Rewatching it also makes it easier to follow the plot in detail, rather than just kind of hanging on for the ride.

I subbed to both either way, but Imo you're spreading yourself thin.
Look at a channel like Blind Wave, one channel for everything (a second one specifically for their live stream VODs if that counts), not only do people who are Blind Wave fans enjoy the stuff they enjoy, but because BW is watching other stuff, it gets fans involved in new things!
Like imagine if someone started watching you for your 'Band of Brothers' (this guy) stuff, but over time watches more and more stuff (I finally got around to 'The Last Samurai', your reaction was like "man, this girl didn't even see Marvel stuff and now she saw The Last Samurai before me? This cannot stand!") because you watched it already.. like I'd bet you'd have fans of this movie watch something new for the first time because of your recommendations.
Also I'm just a pleb, so please ignore the hell out of me if you want, it's not my channel! Merely a suggestion, also it's a selfish suggestion because I'm lazy.
