@@MoOrion "Mana" is translated as "hand" or "guidance" from a similar-sounding word in Latin "Manus", "Du" is close to "Duo", which is translated from Latin as "two" and "Vortes" - no idea. It can be assumed that the phrase "Mana du vortes" means "double strength", "two hands" or "the power of two"
Yoko Kanno's trademark is that she regards the language used for lyrics as one of the tonescapes in her compositions. Inner Universe is sung in Russian, Latin and English. Kanno usually gets a native speaker to sing the lead language, and the lyrics are usually written by a native speaker. Another trademark is that if she can't find a language that fits the sound she wants, she'll fake one that's complete gibberish but sounds like it could be a real language.

Despite all the controversy surrounding her compositions, I absolutely love Kanno's works! In my youth I owned all of her CD's from the late 90's, including works she'd collaborated on like Cowboy Bebop. Some of the most unique and inspiring sounds came from Kanno and especially Susumu Hirasawa ( what an eccentric guy! ).
I've been trying to get Geebz to listen to some Hirasawa too. That stuff is going to break his brain in the best way, just like it did to us. But moreso because he's a composer.
Susumu Hirasawa is a very special person and artist. His work is so unique and to me it's like the star aligned for him to do the Berserk OST, just such a perfect fit. His range of compositions is also extremely vast, from some of the hardest to some of the most beautiful and melodic music (even within Berserk, say "Sign" or "Murder" vs. "Earth" or "Gatsu")
Origa was truly one of a kind, she and her unique vocals are definitely so missed! Highly recommend other Yoko Kanno/Origa collabs they did, really meant for each other, musically speaking! ❤️And if you really loved this, also HIGHLY RECOMMEND Yuki Kajiura as well, and all her projects. One of the best anime intros of all time. I watched and listened every single episode. If you have never watched an anime I would recommend starting with Ghost in the Shell. For a setting where the backdrop is all about people becoming machines and sometimes losing their humanity it is so full of soul and humanity. I cannot recommend it highly enough as a first anime. As for music I can also highly recommend the outro, Lithium Flower. Bonus, it's all in English.

She was always my favorite female vocalist, and the fact she passed away just 1 day before my birthday was just sad. I will never forget what she did for many others :)
Maybe I'm biased because of the time of my life, but I have a soft spot for all of the early 00s anime opening and ending themes. I love lots of the older and more recent stuff too, but something about the music of that era of anime is just made different.
R.I.P Origa...love her voice. Forestella cover of this song is also good in most part "Player" is the the other song of their collaboration (with Yoko Kanno) that i love
Man, I love that you love this song. Yoko Kano is the most well known anime music composer. Check out "Tsuki no Mayu" (from Turn A Gundam) and Information High (from Macross). Two of my favorite from her.
This song I define as heavenly industrial. Great mix of russian, latin and english lyrics defining 3 different "moods" in the song, which reminds me of another Yoko Kanno song called Hemisphere, which is the opening song for the anime RahXephon, a mecha anime very centered around music, and the song has 3 moods very defined by different musical styles, with subtle tones that remind of this somg too. Yoko Kanno is just amazing at taking any style and making great music for it, and the voice of Origa, beautiful!!
@rpgeebz your videos are enabling me to separate a song in layers and making the whole experience much more interesting, ejoyable and understandable, !thanks for your videos and pointing out the way you do!
Glad to see your trying some more HIGHLY regarded anime. If you get teh chance I would recommend the end credits song to an anime called Samurai Champloo called Shiko No Uta. Can easily be found here on youtube.
Outside of Anime-fans, far too few people get to discover the absolute genius that is Yoko Kanno. So the rare instances of reactor doing YK songs is always a delight. And your appreciation and insight are great fun to watch. About this song in particular, one thing I believe has not been mentioned in the comments before is that the second singer is (then) boy tenor Benedict Del Maestro, whom far more people have heard in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy (e.g. the last March of the Ents in The Two Towers). It is also entirely possible that YK drew inspiration from Frou Frou/Imogen Heap, since the Anime came out in 2002, around the same time Heap got famous. Edit: One more thing: Apart from her prowess as a composer, Kanno is also an excellent producer and listening to the songs on RUclips and/or in mp3 is almost not good enough. Listening to Kanno songs in a lossless format and with a good sound system/good headphones makes the music seem even more impressive.
The thing about this song that gives me chills every time is what you pointed out about the way they use percussion. The soundscape of a song to me is like the music describing a 3d space to the listener; the difference in frequencies between the low end and high end describe the number of directions the soundwave is travelling, and each sharp sound you encounter is describing a wall that the sound is hitting. Most songs describe a long narrow hallway or a boxy room filled with objects and barriers, but not this song. The percussion uses tons of tiny crackles and chimes, and the base is super warm and smooth, all while violins accompany the INCREDIBLE range of Yoko Kanno and Origa and their legato vocal runs. This song is practically DEVOID of sharp noises. So when you listen to it, it describes a space with thousands of tiny objects and obstructions, but is infinite in all directions. There are no walls. The soundscape of the song puts you on a rooftop in New Port City, letting you take in the sprawling ripples of urban expansion before you dive off that rooftop and slowly fall into the depths. They managed take that animation of Major Kusanagi diving off the roof and blend it into her dive into the ocean, and then transform that into sound. Absolutely BREATHTAKING ever time.
Yoko Kanno is a GENIUS, and I won't be able to sleep (the whole year) cause I just got tickets some minutes ago for seeing her live in NY on March 2025 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
If you want an amazing oldie from Yoko Kanno, check out "Information High" from the Macross Plus soundtrack. Maybe "Pulse" and "Santi-U" from the same soundtrack, too. All amazing songs. (I'm pretty sure Yoko composed them all, but I'm not 100%)

Another not so "famous" track is "Earth Resonance" from "Earth Maiden Arjuna", that got me on the first time i heard it.
Anyway "Inner Universe" is one of the most intense pieces.
I did not expect to ever see this being reacted too but oh my god my late nights as a kid watching adult swim and hearing this opening brought me right back
And listen to More Origa! Player featuring Illaria Graziano. Or her song called Rise. She's such an incredible vocalist.
Shoutout to Frou Frou & Imogen as a vocal parallel also. I love Frou Frou! 🙌🏾❤️🔥
Final Fantasy 12 - Dalmasca Estersand and Final Fantasy 9 - Freya's Theme
Atsuko Tanaka and Origa, may they have their eternal rest
I swear I got goosebumps and tears in my eyes. This song is a masterpiece.
Never thought I'd seen someone reacting to it. thanks!
Yoko Kanno is the Hans Zimmer of Anime.
"It seems recent" that's how you know the futuristic sci-fi made in 1995 did something right!
Oh wow....what a treat! One of my fav anime opening tracks ever. Those key changes at the beginning never cease to give me tingles.
OMG please do more Ghost In The Shell music. The OST for the movies and anime is immaculate. I can definitely Recommend "Nightstalker" and " Europe"
Europe is one of my favorites
Lithium Flower is another good one from this anime.
Origa's voice will always resonate in my soul, and she lives on through her wonderful and beautiful music. Thank you for the reaction to this great piece of art, I'm glad that more people are getting closer to great works like this.
She was always my favorite female vocalist, and the fact she passed away just 1 day before my birthday was just sad. I will never forget what she did for many others :)
Maybe I'm biased because of the time of my life, but I have a soft spot for all of the early 00s anime opening and ending themes. I love lots of the older and more recent stuff too, but something about the music of that era of anime is just made different.
this song makes you feel like you are flying
R.I.P Origa...love her voice. Forestella cover of this song is also good in most part
"Player" is the the other song of their collaboration (with Yoko Kanno) that i love
Whoever recommended this to him thank you perfect song choice
Glad to see your trying some more HIGHLY regarded anime. If you get teh chance I would recommend the end credits song to an anime called Samurai Champloo called Shiko No Uta. Can easily be found here on youtube.
Yoko Kanno is a Master. I love her stuff on Macross Frontier
This song will never die.
ANGELS AND DEMONS!
R.I.P Origa~! Beautiful voice!
Thanks for the middle sequence, I never noticed it. Rediscovered this song again and it gives me the goosebumps.
Inner universe forever…till this day decades after my childhood I still listen to this song and it touches me the same every time
Best Anime OP OF ALL TIME.
Normal anime fans : I can't speak russian.
Ghost in the Shell anime fans : Angely i demony krujili nado mnoy....

Try Cyberbird if you havent! its a goosebump machine
I’m listening to this on my home theatre surround. The pro-logic processing gives such a rich experience
The first time I watched and episode of Stand Alone Complex, this beautiful song just killed me.
What You should try from the same franchise is "Making of Cyborg".
Japanese take on Bulgarian choir singing.
I get goosebumps whenever I listen to this, very beautiful, very powerful
This song does an amazing job of capturing both the beauty and the pain of life….and the experience of being human.
Это поет Ольга Яковлева она же Origa, поет она на ТРЕХ языках, она умерла.
If you want an amazing oldie from Yoko Kanno, check out "Information High" from the Macross Plus soundtrack. Maybe "Pulse" and "Santi-U" from the same soundtrack, too. All amazing songs. (I'm pretty sure Yoko composed them all, but I'm not 100%)
4:30 wow! So awesome that you pick out the section where the bass develops, it's one of my fave parts of the song. It hits you inside but doesn't go right through you.
This music brings tears to my eyes, beautiful.
Você tem que assistir a Forestella fazendo o cover dessa música, é show!!!
Lately been going around watching older music loves reaction to anime music and positively loving it! Enjoyed your video and analysis! Look forward to watching more.
While Yoko Kanno as the composer and Origa as the singer are usually credited, there's another singer who usually goes uncredited - Ben Del Maestro (who sang the "aeria gloris" part, for example)... he also sang for some LotR music.
was not expecting this, daily song. he should listen to the First Assault OST from the now defunct online game based off GITS Stand Alone Complex, that menu music, and the whole ost is crazy good.
Check out 'Lithium Rose' , it's the season1 credits theme from the same show (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex)
The entire OST goes really hard
Her free fall and smashing into the ground and her slow walking was one of the greatest entrances until Thor's entrance during the Battle of Wakanada and Iron Man's introduction into the MCEU
I have been in love with this song since I heard it on GITS Stand Alone Complex.
Yoko kanno and origa were long time friends, thats why they worked together on this song and created one of the greatest soundtracks in Anime History hands down.......RIP Origa. You are now one with the net, forever to stay, a ghost in the shell.
