Yoko Kanno is one of the best Japanese composers out there, every animation project she takes part in improves impressively. Macross Plus, Ghost in the Shell, Terror in Resonance (which seems a big inspiration for Kevin Penkin), Arjuna, Escaflowne the movie, ... I can't name enough soundtracks composed by her that made those series well known. She also works with so many talented singers. She did work on another jazz soundtrack, Kids on the Slope.

There's something legitimately charming about the way you look at a track. It doesn't feel like you're just doing all this for clout. You have an actual appreciation for the work you're hearing that goes beyond "I know I like it" and into "I know why I like it."

The director of this anime, Shinichirō Watanabe, has a very musical approach to his anime and the sound tracks are very integrated in the shows stylistically. Something I want to tell you about the anime creator, Shinichirō Watanabe, is the music always comes first. After that he builds the show around the music. So cowboy bebob is built around Jazz/Blues in a Space Western feel. His other shows are the same like Samurai Champloo is built around hip-hop. One of my favorite shows that he worked on is called "Kids on the Slope". That show is incredible just because of how much work the animators did to have people playing the music to be as accurate as they could. You should check out the "Jam Session" clip from the show its great.

Tank! so absolutely encapsulates the spirit of Cowboy Bebop - a spacefaring mashup between James Bond and spaghetti westerns. You've got the old-school jazz from the earlier James Bond films fused with the 'narrative' ballads from the spaghetti westerns, with something of a Cuban flair for added zest. Not sure what the proper musical term is, but each 'segment' is like a scene from an epic tale; while a lot of music 'embraces the destination', Tank! 'embraces the journey' - Opening; Inciting Incident; Call to Action; Rising Stakes; Climax; Denouement. No specific narrative, but the overarching sense that you've experienced an entire story within a few minutes.

The band The Seatbelts were brought together by Yoko Kanno (the composer for Bebop and many very acclaimed TV, Movie, game and anime soundtracks). They're basically an international ensemble from myriad different genres. Which is reflected in Bebop's soundtrack, covering everything from Jazz and Bebop, classical orchestral pieces all the way to bubblegum pop. They still play today occasionally, a quarter of a century after Bebop released. Their members contain musicians from America, Japan, France, Georgia, and even some guests vocalist from relatively mainstream bands (Steve Conte who does a lot of the English vocal songs was the singer for the New York Dolls).

Oh, Geebz, the music for this series goes hand in hand with the show in a way I've never seen before or after.
Each episode is founded on a different genre or subgenre of music which complements and sets the mood of the episode. It's bizarre and intensely creative.
You'd get a kick out of the whole soundtrack. The show too, really, to see how the music blended with - and inspired - the action.

I follow anime music since the '60s and videogame music ever since. You can't imagine the amount of great music in those sectors. It will be great for you to enjoy the exploration in those sectors.

If you listened Cowboy Beebop's Tank, you definitley have to listen another composition. From Samurai Champloo, called Shiki no Uta. Samurai Champloo is an anime series, made same person as Cowboy Beebop - Shinichirō Watanabe. He's absolute genius. Visuals in anime is perfect. The soundtrack of the Samurai Champloo is unique. Some of compositions made by Nujabes - beatmaker known as father of Lo-Fi hiphop music. A lot of talanted composers worked on that soundtrack.

I never noticed the bass response part during the sax solo; nice job picking out the ques! It's at 6:45 in the video, and I think at 2:10 in the original song.

I’m so happy this wonderfully frenetic, energetic piece of pure joy, glorious introduction that it is to such a classic anime, has brought you so much pleasure. Anime in general has some of the most astounding soundtracks. If you’ve not heard any of the openers for Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) or Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood I highly recommend them. They change with each season, reflecting the mood and tone of the story. Every time I rewatch them, Rewrite by Asian Kung Fu Generation and Undo by Cool Joke haunt me for months.

"Once upon a time, in New York City in 1941... at this club open to all comers to play, night after night, at a club named 'Minston's Play House' in Harlem, they play jazz sessions competing with each other. Young jazz men with a new sense are gathering. At last they created a new genre itself. They are sick and tired of the conventional fixed style jazz. They're eager to play jazz more freely as they wish then... in 2071 in the universe... The bounty hunters, who are gathering in the spaceship 'BEBOP', will play freely without fear of risky things. They must create new dreams and films by breaking traditional styles. The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called... COWBOY BEBOP" --The opening credits of Cowboy Bebop

Now that you've done Tank! by The Seatbelts and Yoko Kanno from Cowboy Bebop, it would be great if you could react to Guns & Roses by Paradise Lunch (the intro to the anime series Baccano! - also nothing to do with the US rock band), and Paraiso by Soil & "Pimp" Sessions (the intro to the anime series Michiko & Hatchin).
Both Baccano! and Michiko & Hatchin are very different to the usual anime fare in that the first was set in the US in the 1920's/'30s, while the latter was overtly South American with many non-white characters.

If it isn’t much of a burden, I do have a request and it’d be to listen to some of the “Genshin Impact” OST, I highly suggest the Inazuma track or the Scaramouche boss fight. Honestly one of if not my most favourite modern orchestral music.
