I think what Biffa meant here was in terms of realism/safety. Hypothetically, if a bus in lane 1 was going straight and he allowed the left hand turn in lane 2 then there would be a “collision”. Not 100% sure if that’s what his thought process was but that’s what I gathered from that bit

    • @UKChrisC
      @UKChrisC 2 года назад +2

In real life you can cross over but the bus is usually on its own set of lights.
Biffa - yumbltv has a good timed traffic tram roundabout which allows for separate release of the tram by dealing into some areas of traffic manager and timed traffic lights. Might work here with the buses

    • @TheRealSilentMbuso

@@UKChrisC That’s cool, some places out here have bicycles on a separate light so I can see that easily translating to busses. I was going on what made sense in the context of the video. Here in NYC if you’re making a turn the bus lane will usually end before the intersection but if not you can use the bus lane to turn.

43:17 The reason that vehicles keep stopping at the roundabout is because the roundabout is too small, and the nodes are too close together. If nodes are too close together, vehicles will stop to wait for the vehicles in front of them. If you made the roundabout bigger, this problem shouldn't occur.

The bus lanes in my area always end a good stretch before a roundabout. So no bus lane will ever go directly into a roundabout itself.
Sometimes, the bus lane will just simply merge with the normal lanes.... and other times it will be controlled by a traffic light.... giving the buses priority when merging.
After all, the whole point of the bus lane is so the buses can skip over heavy traffic, but you don't want buses merging with car on the actual roundabout itself. It should merge before.

Loved the name-making for areas, including the brilliant name for the village, but I'm sure you mentioned you would name the farm as well. I still got my suggestion for its name somewhere amongst the comments of a previous video. Incidientally, I got some suggestions that would be nice ideas for the city:
    * Try to create yourself some nice pedestrian-only streets; especially if you do another highstreet setting in the city.
    * See if you can find some thatched houses for use in another village.
    * Create a Sport Leisure Centre somewhere near the new residential area
    * Create a grand country house for visitors to enjoy seeing
    * For the second highway exit on the main motorway, create an offshoot lane for left-turning traffic, to ease up traffic heading towards the farm.
    * For the market station's rail link - try to locate the brick viaduct set with closed off arches. I think that would look cool up to where it meets the main road in the 'south', before the rest becomes embarkments

Maybe a small part of the history of the train station could be that it used to be an old river port from when cargo mainly traveled by river back in the day. After the train was invented, the need for a riverport dwindled and the old buildings were converted into a cargo railway station and then once lorries took over the main way to transport goods the station was once again converted into a passenger railway station as the population of the old increases and more people need to commute. This is a pretty normal story for a lot of the rail stations near the river in my area

I like the UK lorries you're using, but something I found with a tight commercial area is that because so many of them are larger, they have a larger turning radius that sometimes gets them stuck on the roads. My solution was to make everything one-way, then they didn't have to do as tight a turn in front of the shops.

I did a realistic pop city a couple months back. It wasn't huge, but the thing I did to fix my traffic issue was actually to massively slow the roads down, and provide lots of rail transport. That would probably be easier with trams, but I don't have the DLC. If cars are limited to 10 mph, goods transit between areas is by rail, and everything is pedestrianized with good transit, they just quit trying to drive, and there is very little traffic. Also, I banned cars on the outside highway connection, so my new citizens arrived by train.

IIRC, the only office buildings in the whole city are those half-wood ones near the olf market station. So that might be why there were so many cars commuting across the city. There are well-educated people on the other side who want to work in the offices, instead of the industry or retail.
It might be better if they all moved over to the lovely new houses right next to the offices - except there are no schools over there to give their kiddies a good education!
Also, I was thinking you perhaps should get rid of the vanilla raised traintracks that run into the old market station and use those raised brick viaducts. ie. the other ones that you didn't use to run into the transport hub. They've got a nice "old London town," look to them, particularly when you use the arched brick sections to create train bridges over roads. It would add to the old-school look of the area.

You can easily change building type in RICO (and not Realistic Pop) building settings.
Any type You want - high/low res or commercial, office - can even take pollution off some industrial buildings - I do that a lot for most warehouses available for UK packs - they don't pollute irl but are industrial type of workplace and it's all easily done and saved locally for all maps You might play on. RICO for the win!
Nice traffic You've got there buddy ... impressive! :)

I'm sure someone has already pointed this out, but with the British Dual Carriageway roads the slip roads become junctions and traffic ignore central reservations. So even with the "hugos" the game seems to override them. You need to use the lane turn part of TMPE on every slip road to stop traffic jumping across the reservations.

Hey Biffa, I reckon the alotments would look nice directly alongside the river. And a city wall around those old half-timbered houses or a park going all around would look very nice. (An example for such a park is my hometown Würzburg in Germany, and it litteraly is called a "Ringpark")

Hi Biffa. Around 32mins you mentioned changing the commercial/office goods needs and sales. In the Options menu, the Realistic Pop mod has settings for all that stuff. How many goods are sold, how much are needed, car/bike/ped preferences by res type, all of those nitty-gritty details. It's _really_ down-in-the-weeds stuff, but I think it's what you want to reducing the traffic to East Kettling

What you need is another road to bypass the motorway and connect the first town so that the traffic crossing the motorway reduces. Somewhere to the North you should bridge itover and the motorway traffic should have more room.

Here is what you need to do to solve traffic problems:
    1. Build alot more roads (entry points) so it give the people multiple options to get to same area.
    2. Set the speed limit to the same mph on each road so it forces cars to use the smaller roads more often
    3. Build your city as fast as possible. The max number of cars is either 32K vanilla or 65k modded. Once you get a large population with neighborhoods spread throughout your city the traffic will dilute itself.

When it comes to naming things in places that are divided by East and West or North and South etc. You don’t always have to name something in that place, East blah blah blah, if there isn’t one in the West. Some places do, but others won’t.
For instance, if you have East Biscuiton and West Biscuiton, and in East Biscuiton you have a train station and in West Biscuiton you have a park, a lot of times they’ll just be named Biscuiton Station and Biscuiton Park and drop the geographic prefix/suffix.
That’s another thing, you can also use compass directions as a suffix to change things up a bit, as you have a few now that use it as a prefix. So Biscuiton East/West. I think London, or at least Tube stops have a lot of places that use a suffix more than a prefix.
Sorry if this is rambling, I just thought it was a good shout to he’ll change up the names a bit.

Not sure how realistic looking it would be, but I’ve found that if you use the pedestrian bridge mod to build paths around the roundabouts it helps to stop the cars from stuttering at the junction! 😊 love you videos btw you’re the reason I got into playing Cities Skylines!!

  • @ptterz1277
    @ptterz1277 2 года назад

As you set that up as a "roundabout" around the station, it removed all pedestrian crossings on that "roundabout" road. Now no one can reach the center and station by walking or cycling.
Also, because TMPE does not know what a bus lane is, you need to set lanes at junctions yourself. Annoying, but at least you get to plan how you want to prioritise your buses. 😄
About those roundabouts and give way signs, I am not sure but it feels like there's been an update at some point because in my game give way works like that as well causing huge issues. I had to stop using them because it is almost as bad as setting up stop signs.

Vehicles act like items on belts from other games. The main difference is they will refuse to go if they don't "think" there's enough room. Your round-a-bout lengths are too small and they consistently think there wont be enough room, so they stop until the previous car clears it.

  • @carolinepenn2668

Biffa, the bits you've left open in Kettling would be much better suited for the services that you've currently put along the river. I can't think of a single place that would waste desirable riverside property on something like a fire station. It would be much nicer for tourism, like cafes & restaurants, or maybe even expensive residential further away from the noise.
    Really enjoying the UK series!

33:20 it is uncommon to have multiple floor small shops, because of all accessibility rules for shops (think of wheel chair users)
In typical old buildings converted to shops, the upper floor houses 1 household and storage space for the shopkeepers, and the bottom floor is a store

  • @leonardodavio344

Biffa, the problem that the cars stop in the roundabout is derived from the length of the segment between two nodes. If there are a spece for two cars between the two nodes at a certain speed, the game makes the cars moving, however if the space between the nodes is of a only 1 car, the game stops the next car at the give way mark, because it does not have the space to stay there. You can clearly see the length between the two nodes with the 'road marking tool'. The distance also varies depending on how "big" the crossing is: the wider a crossing, the more the distance between two nodes in the roundabout decreases; the smaller the intersection, the more the distance between two nodes increases; if the distance of an intersection is zero it becomes a perfect node. (Viewable and editable with the mod of node management).
It is nice to have two very close intersections, however it generates calculation errors and the vehicles do not respect TMPE's commands.
At that point there are 2 roads or put the road connected to a node and then move it with the mod or build a dead end road. (also resolving that vehicles pass under the road in the new district).
In/out of roundabout or a big intersection is quite useless have a lane only for busses because you delete the possibility of the ramain traffic to move more freely.
I didn't remember where are you from but in England before the traffic light the bus lane ending for helps the traffic
Sorry for the bad english, i wish is clear. If you understand this concept you can have a less traffic jam and solve a lot of your traffic problem. The use of TMPE line connector in node, expected the straight only, you can allert you that they're some issue in the traffic.

24:00 I wonder if it would make any sense or worth to simply have a bus only lane going straight across so that the buses would not take up the space on the roundabout. And the parts where the off ramp goes from the highway and onto the ring should have a road with an extra lane to make four lanes so that they can more smoothly get onto the ring. Also, if I may be so bold as to make a suggestion for an area to build, the triangular section between the elliptical roundabout and the river looks like a nice place to put a posh apartment complex area of some sort. One with one to three medium sized tall buildings with a nice park area interspersed in the areas in between. Either that or a small mall (not like a shopping area like near the start of the series but a one building shopping complex).
