That “small” roundabout is actually huge when you compare it to the motorway junction. I think it would be much smaller, like the kind where you barely turn, and it’s just a white lump on paint in the middle!
Also I’ve noticed when you’re doing your housing estates, you never put in any corner shops. I feel like at least one of those corner houses would be a wee corner shop for the milk and papers!

If you think about those roundabouts, they're basically just a give way on some roads, especially when there's a road going straight. Or at least, that's the way most people treat it the way they just fly through without even slowing down and looking if there's anyone entering the roundabout from the other street

Love these new buildings but I don't think these people would want to live in a ditch. Realistically there would be a lot of flooding and swamping in this new area, as well as people complaining about having a large hill / wall, making them feel like they're stuck in a place like Wayward Pines, as the view from their front yard. As much as I love how much you've respected the topography in this build, I think a a good bit of terraforming is needed for the highway, the through road, and/or the land in the neighborhoods. Or you could change the roads to bridges

    1) fish&chip shops. 2) a theme park or fair. 3) a caravan/lodge site for holidays. 4) I know you haven’t got any mass water yet, but maybe a lakeside leisure area, or even a beachfront/seaside. What could be more British than a bucket and spade! 5) a couple more supermarkets! My town isn’t the biggest and we have an Asda, Tesco, Lidl, 2 Morrison’s, 2 Aldi’s.
All your content is good, but I am loving the British build style! So many of the estates you build remind me of my very own hometown and all it’s different areas/styles.

The new DLC when it arrives (any idea when?) will be perfect to go back and redo the roads in the Medieval section, also proper no pedestrian high streets! An area like this could have parking in one area and walking paths to houses only as that is fairly common on some estates.

I found out a trick for making money and adding NO traffic to the rest of your city. I built an OIL industry zone with the main building, lots of worker homes boarding, and a maintenance building. Then I made a road going directly to a cargo shipping facility. The road was actually 2 one way roads so the whole area is actually a loop. Then I have a road leading off to a square made with one way roads looping around. I put about 4 large oil rigs, oil storage, 6 petrol factories, and a warehouse set to petrol only. Then I use the warehouse mod so the MUST ship to warehouses and the do not export or import except to export petrol. It is not perfect as it still exports oil but you make a ton of the petrol and the workers just show up magically without any way to get there.

It's almost like the game is balanced around using zoning tools, and letting the Cims show up at a leisurely pace, and build in that way... And just plopping them in breaks traffic and other things... or something. ;)
Seriously though, I quite like these series. It's neat to see the different strategies between the two country-based cities you work on. I knew there was a difference between left-side v. right-side traffic (turn on reds come to mind) but it's easier to visualize when you have to different kinds of cities going. I appreciate the work you put into these videos for us. :)

  • @skiscHans
    @skiscHans 2 года назад +1

You could make a pedestrian and bike tunnel from the neighborhood underneath the collector road. And on the other side a bike and pedestrian bridge over the highway. Since you already have some height difference that works in your favour

  • @Valthalin
    @Valthalin 2 года назад

The obvious solution to much of the traffic problems is to have a road(s) connecting the main areas on one side of the highway to the other side that is NOT also serving as highway access. That dual purpose is a nightmare for those trying to enter or exit the highway. You see this especially in larger cities all the time.
I do this in my cities as a matter of course and can actually avoid mass transit use until around 75k population or there about in a typical build. (I do use bike lanes and plenty of pedestrian/cycle access however, and cargo terminals for the Industry DLCs)

36:20 a pedestrian/cycle ramp from the estate up to the large road above.
35:11 looks like the pedestrian tunnel exit is just a mm away from linking up enough with the pavement to provide pedestrian access without having to de-tour via the roundabout.
and finally: wouldn't there be a pedestrian bridge across the highway from about the middle of the estate? bit of a walk all the way to Old Blightea, but soe might use it :)

You can also try looking for elevators for underground pedestrian tunnels, looks a lot neater than the underground tunnels in vanilla. The might be stairs on the workshop, but I like the elevators. Works wonders for busy intersections if you anarchy them into a park or parking area.
Side question: When will there be another challenge like the Red Bull one? That was fun.

Very appropriate - "Want to live in this hot and happening place?" : 37:25
As for suggestions for improvements... hmmm... I think with those pedestrain tunnels you made around that highway intersection, you might want to change the roads above to not have pavements - if the peds have got a way under the highway to avoid crossing the offramps, then there's no need for them to walk up there anymore.

Great video as always, love the terrace houses you used in the new abbey estate!
I just really can’t think of anywhere with that style house that would have the road going along the back/between those style houses ???
Also the back gardens would be 50~100% bigger then they are at the moment

For realism In the UK city (trying to remembered) wouldn't there be doctors surgery just in an ordinary house, instead of separate clinics. Anyway of doing that. (And of course, dozens of dentists, physios etc, but that's another detail!). Small modern church
And we need some aged care places; big old house converted, or some new version.

Nice new build of "Aldergate Abbey". However, I would have some additonal suggestions.
    (a) Currently, it is not really accessible by bike or foot or public transport. If you look at the video at 28:40 it would be nice to have a bike lane and pedestrian way from Aldergate Abbey to the road in St. Leonard's.
    (b) This would need some pedestrian crossings on the collector road.
    (c) Also the wall on the right side is very high. So that the road has a smooth gradient. I would make the road gradient steeper, so that the road reaches the level of the houses quicker. => Less wall more opportunities to connect the pedestrians and bikes to the collector and over it. Unfortunately, a short tunnel for bikes would be nice, but CS cannot do that.
    (d) A biking route going to the bottom of the screen and further (looking at the map on 28.40) would be nice.

To me, the motorway junction near the newest estate should be a sausage-about (grade-separated junction?), not the current give way setup. Give way junctions seem fine for low traffic volume, but for a major junction like that, it feels like the wrong choice.

10:41 Biffa, I Know the UK Roundabout road messes up the pedestrian crossings, But the Chevron signs that go in the middle are actually a prop too that comes with the UK Road pack, so you can add them in.
15:02 There's a mod that forces all emergency lights to be blue, so you don't get the American blue and red on your vehicles.

so I have noticed that some citizens in cities skylines are standing in the middle of the road, so I have checked out why they were standing there. And I found out that those people are waiting for cabs on the middle of the road. So far I haven't got a solution. But it does explain why people are standing on the road.

I laughed at Biffa declaring the pedestrian tunnels ugly and deciding that multiple traffic lights and making pedestrians walk half a mile out of their way is a better solution. Lets stop all the cars AND make it take longer for people to walk or bike to their destination!

I only use vanilla roads, but I do use TMPE Traffic Mod (Traffic despawn off, so vehicles never disappear).
In my experience, the best way to handle traffic is to not have traffic.
    - Block off personal and industrial vehicles from using the entrances and exits to each zone. (But if outside vehicles come in, they can still travel along the highways if they want to just pass through my city)
    - Have plenty of well-connected free public transport (citywide policy) within and between zones to transport people around. This also includes "outside connection" passenger train stations.
    - Have multiple cargo train stations to each industrial zone, and at least one to each other zone (to deliver to local commerce).
To further support local industry, I block off all imports.
    - Incoming train lanes, I create a short one-way fork off to the side which connects to nothing. I then use TMPE to only allow passenger trains on the incoming line, and only cargo trains on the "nothing" fork off... Because I want incoming cargo trains to "fork off".
    - When I use seaports, I make sure they're connected to a one-way loop, but the return portion of the one-way loop blocks industrial and personal vehicles (ensuring that incoming vehicles disappear). This way cargo can only go out to sea, never come in from sea.
All of the above means that the only way to produce goods for my city is to do so locally in my own city, and the only way to transport those goods between zones is rail.
My city is at 110k population with almost no road traffic, and I should again make clear that I have traffic despawn turned off.
The challenge at the moment is arranging the railways to accommodate rail traffic. Coming from OpenTTD this is more fun for me.
Biffa, I have no idea how to share a copy of my city with you, but if you're interested, just tell me how to "upload" it to you and I'll be happy to share.

"Pretty bad to end the highway" Tell that to those who built nearly every Freeway,Motorway in New South Wales. The F1 Freeway came out onto a main highway Pennant Hills Road, it is now the M1 Motorway and has a tunnel extension. The same entry/exit remains. The M2 comes out onto a main highway Winsdor Road which now connects to the end of the M7 Motorway loop. Same entry, exit remains. The F4, once ended on a main highway The Great Western Highway./at Prospect. Entry/Exit is now occupied by RMS and Freeway was extended into Parramatta and became the M4 Motorway. It ended on a main highway. The Great Western Highway, Parramatta Road. The same entry/exit still remain. It has now been extended with tunnels and links to connect up with Sydney's other Motorways. I think there is only one Freeway left in Sydney. The F3. The rest have become tolled Motorways.
