It would be cool if there was a main city centre with a cathedral and pedestrian shopping street, with buildings from multiple time periods squashed together! Thanks for the videos
Agreed. Blightea-on-the-Wold doesn't really have a traditional UK town centre, with a high street of shops and the normal mixture of building styles, and even a newer shopping centre.
I proposed something similar when he announced he might unlock all the tiles, UK towns/cities usually sprung up around something, be that a port, resource, defensive position (Hill fort) or just some land where the church built something. It would be good to see that approach taken.
Hey Biffa! If you convert the road that goes into the non-roundabout junction into a two-way road where it meets the collector, you can have it split off into a loop to get that missing movement.
@@aveekbh functionally my suggestion would be a partway conversion to a parclo, which you frequently see in situations like these where you don't have enough traffic volume to *need* something more than a diamond but one quadrant is already occupied by a use you don't wish to demolish
@35:30 To compute the distance on the motorway for placing the exit sign you can use the distance between street lights which is standard, 50 meters in Belgium
Move it has a 'mirror' option. Just select the nodes you want to copy/mirror, select 'mirror' in move it then click on a node/section on the UK highway you were wanting to make the intersection on.
Looking at the view at 17:23 ; to add in the fourth motorway slip road you could start from the right side of the underpass and bring a road up to conect with the first slip road and then change the part that connects with the "A" road to a two way "national" road. Moving that first slip over to the right a bit would give you more room.
5:35 The y-junction makes it hard to turn on the tight angles. You could add a small turning lane a few squares back leaving a triangle island. You see them a lot in London.
Biffa, you had already designated north-south-east-west when you named East and West Kettering…you might want to check that your new north matches your original north!
Hi Biffa! Where the motorway has an underpass, you could make the junction into an A2 parclo to get all the movements whilst also not needing to demolish any existing developments. Gives one quadrant back too!
Hey Biffa, in theory you could also add the missing 4th sliplane for coming off by bending it within the free space of the "joining" sliplane. Like the inner slip lane of a clover leaf. (adding a off-lane through the tunnel, going off right after the tunnel and probably make it bending parallel to the ongoing slip lane)
hey biffa could you add a pedestrian path for the buss stop in 9:15? maybe a bridge or small underground tunnel? there doesn't seem to be a crosswalk for a while, lots of love
At the new road of 30:57 you could make a petrol and rest stations like those in Europe. I see a lot of those going from Greece to Germany in the highways.
A par-clo from the T intersection to/from the highway would give access to all directions on the highway. It would provide an exit from the highway in the direction that is missing it. This direction is coming from the main part of the city, so it would be the most useful.
Since you have so much space between the on/off ramp, highway and main road, you could build a P+R area there, with parking and a bus & tram/metro hub, for people who want to drive to the city but take public transport within
For the motorway/dual carriageway have fewer junctions, then it goes on to a ring road/big road and filters down to smaller roads. It might help with keeping traffic moving by having a big road/ring road system that has no traffic on it to allow traffic to move freely
I think a partial cloverleaf interchange would have been better suited and taken less space than this GINORMOUS (partial) diamon interchange, and it's missing a way out for traffic coming from the city but wanting to exit at this intersection.
When it comes to highway design and signs placement and all that stuff, cant you ask Matt ? Wasnt he a highway designer before he became obsessed about the strongest shape in youtube videos? ;)
The new motorway interchange on the north (edit: south or whichever direction you pick) side is terribly bulky imo; you could have all the merges and diverges on the north side in the shape of a partial cloverleaf, providing enough space between junctions AND have all four connections. +You could add a slip lane on that first sharp junction on the ring going left and traffic lights for straight on
there is shadow on this games so you Can know where everything is ! if i assume this is North emisphere (UK) and this is the midjorney/afternoon, the actual north is where you put east (if someone Can recheck that im not 100% sure) but anyways, you can change the Sun orientation with a mod idk the name anymore, so you dont need to change every sign
Love this city too!! Glad you are expanding it to 81 tiles! Being American, I have to get my head around the left side of the road driving lol. Really look forward to more building🤩
Around 20:46, while working on a node, hold shift and click on the dot on the outer line of the smaller road, then click on the dot on the outer line of the bigger road, it will smooth out the turn. By outer line I mean on the inner side of a turn. Hope that makes sense :>
Interesting new junction but I think you missed the South bound off ramp connection after the tunnel. Also, I reckon you could have a motorway ring road, an "M Twentea Five" if you will, surrounding the original 6 tiles.
17:39 you have a top 4 way stop , middle tunnel, and bottom round-about, to get the missing direction, from the right hand side of the tunnel , turn off to go to the top junction, and merge the 1 way off ramp into 2 way highway piece. i guess another option if you don't want all that traffic at a 4 way stop would be on to raise the off ramp trumpet style to bridge over the highway and connect it into the off ramp that goes into the round about. i mean nothings going in the empty space anyway.
The new junction really doesn't feel complete without the fourth slip lane. How about adding it as a loop inside the first one? It could join the same junction in a 2-way road.
hey biffa for those signs that mark 100 yards, in real life i'm pretty sure they would be in the center of the road just a tip to make your city more realistic 😁 (also I love your videos!!!)
You should make a highway connection going east also, could use that original highway that goes in a straight line through the middle, have it continue in a straight line all the way from West to East. Just make some kind of 3 way junction where the road starts to curv off to the south east. Great work by the way.
tbh I would prefer the 81 tile mod on every map, the process of unlocking squares just seems too gamey and is a barrier to free expression. Love the vids! Keep up the great work, Biff!
Being picky, the end of Motorway signs would normally be 50m or so up the sliproad. The new speed limit sign position depends on the road - sometimes at the start of the sliproad but often 30-40 metres before the roundabout
I love your videos, but I am especially clicking Like at 1:02 for the mod setting advice, where my game has gotten more wonky as I add assets and set up districts. 👍👍 And I never want to give up the 81 tiles mod! 🙂🙂
Next build feels like it should be a big industrial estate with as many of the factories as possible and a cargo train station (although not very British) as you need the income!
Very compact interchange, there..(also not sure if someone already said it, but outside connections don't seem to like dual-direction roads; Phil had that issue in Nicolet Bay for a while)
New player, been binging your traffic series, since "city planner" and "traffic management" seem to be a very thicc venn diagram. I'm also a truck driver, so traffic is kinda my jam...as I've gone through a couple vanilla games and finally started adding mods, I'm noticing that half of them are ones you use! LOL...traffic management/control ftw!
you say its a UK themed town city, but where are the pubs? every area needs a pub or two , my highstreet has 12 pubs and i see none in yours, come on Biffa, get the pubs assets out,
I think you should make the new motorway a dual carriageway or make it two lanes each way just like it would be in the uk, as I doubt a city of that size would have 3 motorway connections, however multiple A-road connections would be expected. Also the he new junction you made seemed quite large compared to similar ones elsewhere. Another great episode though !!
23:02 Where the outside lane merges with the middle lane could you tell them not to use that part of the specific lane and plop some roadwork stuff there? That'll really capture the UK feel!
Surely that new junction on the motorway should be a replacement for the old one given how close they are and not a supplement to it? Gives better access to the collectors in the city and there is still adequate access to the roads the older junction served + removing it would allow for the final movement
On the motorway start signs, you wouldn't put them half way down the slip unless there's a way for traffic that is not allowed on the motorway to turn around. The correct place for them would be at the entrance to that slip road.
I often think of solutions before you get to them. That tunnel under the main arterial was perfect. It was gagging for a tunnel, and you often avoid them. So when you did that you gave me a happy surprise. Another great episode. Loving the vibe.
Love this video Biffa! I was thinking maybe where the motorway is rural you could use the version without street lights? Some motorways only have lighting around junctions and urban areas
Your videos are awesome! Got back into the game by rewatching your New Tealand playlist. But dang, the mods are killing me. The steam workshop collection crashed the game with errors and of course it was before I could save. You make it look so easy!
I feel like there needs to be a coal mine set into one of the hillsides (could use the ore industry). Can we get a live stream of this map, this is by far my favourite one you've done.
I was thinking, is there an airfield mod/dlc since this is countryside, there might be a simple airfield. Or you could do like outside birmingham/london where the airport might be between large city and town, you could make an international airport at the edge of the map, now that you're opening up all the tiles. Maybe same situation for something like drayton manor park (have it near medievel town, but other side of river, and again towrd edge of map.) and have a small theme park. Or a zoo?
Normally biffa, the interchanges are quite good, this one though is pretty uhhhh, well it’s not the best. I know this map is super hilly, but all the cutting thru the earth seems really unnatural for some reason. We’ll see how things progress!
May I suggest you fill in the space around the Medieval city centre with a mix of buildings that Hannah Perry suggests? And the same thing inside the centre so it looks more like a true ancient city centre like The City of London (no, not exactly like that!) rather than a theme housing development? Thanks.
Wow, that's a crazy amount of detailing work! Really brings into perspective how much work you do making your cities beautiful. I was really surprised at the amount of available props too! Great episode as always, stayed up to watch it but no regrets :D
Most my cities have a north/south circular ring road like here in London great way of connecting airports, main garbage facilities, industrial areas, cargo airports
You should build a skyscraper District like canary wharf in the south east of the city. Also on your retail park you need a sign saying the name of the rail park and what stores it has.
Like a City of London area
I proposed something similar when he announced he might unlock all the tiles, UK towns/cities usually sprung up around something, be that a port, resource, defensive position (Hill fort) or just some land where the church built something. It would be good to see that approach taken.
🤣
Hi Biffa!
Why not try to build a ring road around the city, like most UK cities has.
Good idea
Good idea indeed. I'd say the part of the new collector from 05:11 to 07:28 could be a four lane UK motorway type road 🤔.
Came here to say the same thing!
Oh yeah like the M25 in london and it goes around the city and around the city and it connects the other highways is the city
If it's too big they will just cut through and not be smart about it
Hey Biffa! If you convert the road that goes into the non-roundabout junction into a two-way road where it meets the collector, you can have it split off into a loop to get that missing movement.
Yeah, I was going to suggest this, but you do also get motorways with unbalanced on and off rumps.
I second this!
Or the parclo as suggested in another comment by Aliztro.
@@aveekbh functionally my suggestion would be a partway conversion to a parclo, which you frequently see in situations like these where you don't have enough traffic volume to *need* something more than a diamond but one quadrant is already occupied by a use you don't wish to demolish

I've always wanted a compass in this game.
@@teekayfourtwoone4686 there’s a mod for one
It’s totally in-keeping with UK place naming conventions for the cardinal points to have absolutely no relation to the naming 😂
Hi Biffa! Where the motorway has an underpass, you could make the junction into an A2 parclo to get all the movements whilst also not needing to demolish any existing developments. Gives one quadrant back too!
A parclo would work brilliantly at the new connection. Yumble has some great examples
Hey Biffa, in theory you could also add the missing 4th sliplane for coming off by bending it within the free space of the "joining" sliplane. Like the inner slip lane of a clover leaf.

Yes an underpass makes sense as the road is built on top of an embankment.
0 hour gang

Service Stations in the UK. Yeah would be cool to see it!
Anxiously waiting for the Diddly Squat Farm to pop up in Blightea on the Wold
The one traffic jam that even Biffa can't fix.
Yes and start every episode by dropping a meteor on him.

Show RCE your highways and ask where to place the signs. Just no roller coasters.
nice decorating on the motorway - boo for the the speed cameras :)
😁
14:40 my heart is screaming about the driving on the left side of the road even though I know it'll get fixed soon
For the motorway/dual carriageway have fewer junctions, then it goes on to a ring road/big road and filters down to smaller roads. It might help with keeping traffic moving by having a big road/ring road system that has no traffic on it to allow traffic to move freely
08:24 You need to pull back that tunnel just a little bit. You don't want to see a junction as soon as you came out of a tunnel.

Roads normally follow the height variations of the land. It looks less realistic having the giant hills each side of the road
The big lake I still think should be a rich/posh neighbourhood with mansions, called The Rich Tea

Time flies when you're havin' fun...making intersections. Fun!
9:18 you have the straight line slope option selected. That’s why it keeps digging into the terrain.
That new outside connection really helped! I love the mod that let's you add that
what's the mod to get the opacity toolbar?

Wonderful detailing with signs my suggestion would be to put in tunnel signs to go with the other signs
Biffa, will there be a financial district? There is plenty of space for it! 😏
16:39 you actually can mirror with the MoveIt mod. I yelled so hard its right there
You can work out North by the shadows. Normally North is towards one of the corners. ;)

The bus stops at 9:20. How do people cross the road?
North changes depending on the map.. use sunrise or sunset to find east or west and work it out like that..
You have to make a tank crossing area now... I saw the sign for it.... lol
*funny for you to think that i plan my city for traffic.*
