I got the record and still play it to this day ever since picking it up at a yardsale, but even before that huge mc5 nerd with the craze of mp3s was able to get anything, but nothing beats the thrill of finding the glorious MC5 debut album thru some old milk crate along with other great rock classics as vol 4 and alice cooper killer!
The MC5 INVENTED both Punk AND Metal -- yet are STILL unknown to much of the rock culture. The song's kind of a ripoff of The Troggs' "I Want You," but they take it to a whole new level of sonic power. Thanks for posting!
come on, now....they were a great live band, but most of the studio albums are kinda forgettable. these guys werent thinking "punk", just a badass rock band from Detroit. the Troggs, the Sonics set out to scare girls, not make em hot! one of their best!
I wouldn't call it a rip off.. it's a cover, the album gives the Troggs credit. I had no idea about the words of Andover's finest coming from the greatest proto punk band of all time.

This was the first review Bangs wrote for Rolling Stone. All he is saying, in his cranky and provocative way, is that rock 'n' roll is derivative. That's also why Bangs loved rock 'n' roll, so I'm not really sure that counts as negative criticism. The Five credit the Troggs, specifically Larry Page and Colin Fletcher, as the writers of this song. Although Bangs initially objected to the "Kick out the Jams" lp, a couple of years later he listed it among his favorites

The MC 5 invented the MC 5. Take it or leave it.
Sabbath made metal. MC5 have what you might call metal’s ‘power’, but they’re not dark. That’s the difference
